The LG G5 with a downside within #LatAm By @VicenteA_George #LGG5 #Android

Every time a new device is launched, we expect them to come in different variants depending on the market they’re going.

Usually these variants are an option in most countries, but this particular year LG made a change to that, and will offer a downgraded version of their flagship for the Latin America Market.

During MWC16 LG showed up they new flagship phone, the first “Modular Smartphone” and lots of us fall in love with the idea.

They made the entire presentation and announced all the details about the device and what it offers, but one thing they didn’t mention was a particular variant for L.A

The model presented last week comes with an Snapdragon 820, four Kryo cores, two clocked at up to 2.2 GHz and two at 1.59GHz, 4GB of RAM and for GPU an Adreno 530.

This is the model that will be shipped to U.S, E.U and Asian markets, but the version for Latin America is another story.

With an Snapdragon 652, four ARM Cortex A72 and four Cortex A53 clocked at up to 1.8GHz, just 3GB of RAM and an Adreno 510 this model is what you could consider a upper mid-range phone.

But if you thought it can’t get worse, it can.

Alongside the new flagship, LG also announced their new “friends” ecosystem, which aims to attract more people with some appealing options, within which are the LG 360VR

But these devices will not be available for South Americans either, something we haven’t seen a reason yet, as the S652 is perfectly capable of handling VR as we have seen on devices with the same processor like the Idol 4S

The reason behind this is even weird as is the first time something like this happen, the announced was made by LG’s Sales manager for Chile, Cristián Correa who said:

Latin American version will be the Snapdragon 652, based on the feedback we had from several operators in the region to probe the accessory alternatives we had, and where the VR was not very appealing. That is why, in addition to the situation of currency appreciation in our countries, we seek a way of saving so the product were not so expensive and we had a better proposal for LatAm without sacrificing performance and only potentially non-use of VR.

We still have to wait and see if this will apply to the entire region and not just Chile, so stay tuned for any updates on this subject.

Do you think this is a good move with Samsung offering their full flagship? Let us know in the comment section below or tweet us at @VicenteA_George or @jimboireland

Dumphones are on the rise again,we chat to @RadioDowntown about it. #Tech #Phones #Radio

Dumphones or Feature phones are as popular as ever it seems and are a great revenue stream for Manufacturers even today,as we are immersed in having the best phones out there we are all phone addicts sporting the latest and greatest in mobile technology and for some even sitting in a que overnight to get the latest and not to be left disappointed. This is how we are today and the world we live in but a new trend is growing and that is reverting back to the dumphone. We check our devices on average 150 times everyday and for me it is probably more,we are addicted to social media such as Facebook Twitter Instagram and Snapchat being the main contenders here, but this has become an issue for many and distracting us from what is really happening around us and conversing with our friends face to face..

Today we spoke to RadioDowntown with Siobhan Mc Garry  on this very subject listen to it below..

Sit in a coffee shop, airport lounge or bus for example, what do we see?? Heads buried into our phones reading the news, replying to emails and social media and some browsing, this is where we are today and for some it has become too much…

People are moving back to devices that have just basic calls and text and some with no camera and internet connectivity, this cuts out all the online experience and distracts you from what is going on there giving you more time to focus on what is happening around you with your family and friends and so on.. Having seen both sides of the coin there is a big difference with a dumphone you are limited, some do offer internet but again its not like what you would see on your average smartphone, also some have no apps at all.. A life with no email, web, social media could you do it,have you done or will you do it..Tell us below…’

WhatsApp launches Beta programme on Android now live in store. #WhatsApp #Beta #Social

WhatsApp is a popular messenger app which allows users to communicate with others with simple text, photos, videos and calls all for free. Now they have launched a Beta programme where users can get early access to updates and test before the general public,This however does not mean all is rosey as in beta you are prone to bugs etc but you do get to see new features before others and it seems plenty of us like this kind of environment.

You can leave the testing program at any time. If you leave the testing program and a public version of the app is available, you can switch to public version by uninstalling the testing version and installing the app again on Google Play.

Animated GIFs on twitter reaches Ireland. #Twitter #Social #GIFs

Twitter began rolling out this new feature last week and it seems that it is now available to us Irish,Twitter does have a funny way of rolling out things though as some get things before others this would depend on your account status and verified accounts..With updates in the past I have often received new features before many and vice versa but this is just twitter and how it works.

The update for us just arrived tonight so perhaps you should check your updates and see if one is present for you..Animated GIFs are an annoyance for some but most of us love them and they add that little bit more to a tweet than a standard image or tweet.

Twitter last week said

GIPHY delivers real-time GIFs as they happen, helping to power Twitter’s live commentary and conversation,” says Alex Chung, founder and CEO of GIPHY. “GIPHY’s users are creating GIFs for news, entertainment, sports, and expression that can enrich Tweets. We’re excited to work with Twitter to make sharing these GIFs even easier.”

“So much can be expressed with GIFs, and the key is to find just the right one in the moment that quickly and efficiently expresses your emotions,” says David McIntosh, CEO and co-founder of Riffsy. “We’re excited to explore this partnership with Twitter and watch Twitter users discover and share their favorite GIFs in their daily lives.”

You will see the GIF option between the camera icon and poll icon and once you tap that a page with GIFs will open and you can also search for whichever suits your mood..
