Design your own #AugmentedReality or #VirtualReality experience.

Innovation studio launches free AR/VR framework and workshop for businesses

Is your company ready to explore the potential that Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) can bring to business? Connector, the studio that created the world’s first VR Instagram Gallery, is officially launching an open source canvas tomorrow (11.05.17) at the Innovate Reality conference at the RDS in Dublin.

Connector’s one-page canvas makes it easy for marketers, business owners and creatives to brainstorm, plan and design an innovative and special AR/VR experience in under thirty minutes. Globally the total number of active Virtual Reality users is forecast to reach 171 million by 2018, so it’s now set to become a major tool for marketers. In Ireland alone, forty per cent of people stated that they are interested in using AR or VR. (Global Web Index)

Launching the canvas, Head of Digital for Connector, Ivan Adriel said:  “Virtual Reality is nothing new. The concept was conceived in the 1960’s, but it wasn’t until just recently, with Facebook’s acquisition of Oculus in 2012, that the supporting technology around AR/VR has finally caught up to the concept.

“Marketers and creatives now have a new immersive and portable medium, which they can use to tell stories and engage with audiences in unexplored and unseen ways. At Connector, we’ve provided the framework for anyone who wants to create a great AR/VR experience, making their audience feel truly immersed in their experiences!

“Using this canvas, anyone can start their immersive marketing efforts and join the thirty per cent of consumer-facing companies in the Forbes Global 2000, who are planning on experimenting with AR/VR as part of their marketing efforts in 2017.”

Attendees at the Innovate Reality conference can pick up their own A0 canvas at the event tomorrow (11.05.17) and the framework is available for download now on the Connector website:  http://connector.ie/canvas/

AR/VR Experience Workshop

To compliment that launch of the canvas, the innovation studio will host a free workshop on 6th June 2017, at 7pm at The Chelsea Drugstore, 25 South Great George’s Street, Dublin 2.

CEO of Connector, Conor Lynch and Connector’s Head of Digital, Ivan Adriel will help attendees create a unique AR/VR experience and give them the blueprint to bring AR and VR to their business.

VR Drop and Share virtual reality is now made accessible for all. #VirtualReality

VR DROP AND SHARE launches today. This is the first free mobile platform that allows anyone to create and share their own social virtual reality experiences. Through VR DROP AND SHARE virtual reality is now made accessible, shareable and simple for everyone.

The VR DROP AND SHARE team believes that virtual reality should be simple for everyone. Harnessing the benefits of social VR on Android smartphones (iOS out soon) VR DROP AND SHARE allows anyone to be in the same virtual space as their audience, pupils, customers, family or friends. VR DROP AND SHARE uses 360 degree photos to create these shared virtual spaces, called “VR Drops”. With the addition of voice over IP users can bring their experience to life, relive memories or explain content to anyone, anywhere in the world. VR DROP AND SHARE requires nothing more powerful than a smartphone to create, share and view this content, the same smartphone already owned by most people.

VR DROP AND SHARE is the ideal tool for use in multiple markets. Estate agents can show prospective buyers a property without anyone having to leave their home or office. It is brilliant for someone to conduct remote viewings of possible university’s, wedding venues, and sports arenas or even to research their next potential holiday destination. Advertising and marketing campaigns can integrate VR to engage and evoke powerful emotions from consumers. Journalists can bring stories to life, and teachers can captivate students within the classroom. Geographically remote friends and family can relive special moments such as birthdays and celebrations.

Available for free on Android (iOS out soon), users can easily and quickly create and view their own VR experience using VR DROP AND SHARE. Just drop multiple 360° pictures into a project to create an immersive VR photo album. From there the creator can invite friends, family, students or customers to view the “VR Drop” or can view the “VR Drop” in solo mode. Sharing with others is simple by posting a link on social media, email, website or SMS. At the click of a button your VR content has the ability to be viral, without the need for other users to log in or sign up, they just enjoy your experience.

The presenter controls the experience for everyone, when they move to the next 360 photo everyone moves too. Using head tracking sensors, those in the experience are able to see where each viewer is looking, increasing the levels of engagement within the group. There is not even any need for a VR headset, for those that don’t like headsets or don’t own one, they can use their phone as a window into the newly created world.

“Feedback from VR DROP AND SHARE testing groups and partners has been very positive. Taking this information on board V2 is in the works bringing audio and text descriptions to enable more immersive experience.” said Jack Maddalena, Sales & Community Manager. “We also have been extremely careful to ensure users enjoy the immersive experience without feeling disorientated or suffering motion sickness that can occur when using other applications.”

Explore the world with Greenpeace’s Virtual Reality App. #Greenpeace #VR

The app is FREE on Android and iOS and you can opt to buy a Greenpeace VR headset, A small donation is required.

This is one for the travelling fans which will enable you to see things up close and travel to some great places like the Amazon, Artic.. It is quite a nice app and great idea having tried it out for a few minutes and there is lots to learn..

“We all know that much of our planet’s remaining wilderness is under threat. But these places we never visit, and rarely even see, often take a backseat to problems we view as more important. By using virtual reality we hope to bring political decision-makers, corporate leaders and members of the public much closer to the amazing places we’re campaigning to protect. It’s important everyone understands how vital it is that we succeed,” said John Sauven, Greenpeace UK Executive Director in a statement.

Description

With our app you can wonder at the towering trees above your heads as you journey through the Amazon. Or see what it’s like to survive at -30°c, exploring the Arctic from the Greenpeace ship the Arctic Sunrise – it’s all about keeping warm, and not petting the polar bears…

Oculus Rift hits Amazon for £499 #Oculus #VR #Rift

Oculus is said the the best in VR which it arguably is but it does not come cheap and its been a hard find for some time and expensive.

Now before you go any further you will need super hardware to run Oculus and you would be looking at a laptop costing at least €1500. For those though who have the hardwear and wanted to purchase this you can now do so on Amazon in several countries so a bit of shopping and pricing would be required to bag the best deal, they also have the peripherals you would require and they do not come cheap either..

Whats in the box…

  • Custom Display and Optics: Rift uses custom display and optics technology designed specifically for VR, featuring two AMOLED displays with low-persistence. The technology enables incredible visual clarity as you explore virtual worlds.
  • Tracking System: The headset is tracked by our IR emitter constellation tracking system for precise, low latency 360-degree orientation and position tracking. The tracking system is designed to track you whether you’re sitting down or standing up.
  • Integrated VR Audio: Rift features an integrated VR audio system designed to convince you that you’re truly there. The integrated headphones are removable in case you want to use your own. There is also a high-quality internal microphone for social experiences.
  • Ergonomics and Design: The advanced ergonomic design improves the headset’s overall balance and stability. The strap architecture offloads the overall weight, allowing the headset to rest comfortably.
  • Includes Oculus Rift headset with built-in headphones and mic, sensor, remote, Xbox One Wireless Controller, Lucky’s Tale cables.

Review – Keplar #VirtualReality headset with built in headphones from Mobile Fun Ireland.

With built in headphones this is an all in one package.

Having tried, tested and now owning some 20 VR headsets now its nice to see how things are moving forward with Virtual Reality, Not only that how the actual HMDs (Head Mounted Displays) are moving forward too.

This is our 2nd VR headset from the guys over at Mobile Fun Ireland which we would like to thank before we talk some more on this nice piece of kit….

The packaging is simple to begin with and inside the headset rests in moulded plastic to keep it in place,Also we get some quick instructions and a cloth to wipe the eyelets should they steam up and of course to keep them clean.

The headset itself is quite cool and with the first one having built in headphones I was keen to get started and listen to the quality which turned out better than expected to be honest and its a pleasurable experience overall. I do also though recommend using headphones when using VR because it adds to the experience which enhances it overall.

Samsung announce a new Gear VR headset with controller. #VirtualReality

Samsung are present at MWC but forget about a Galaxy S8 announcement.

Samsung have a new Gear VR headset which looks much the same as last years iteration and it comes in Black again which is not so bad. Also this time round they have a controller to go along with the unit which means stuff… Stuff being expanding the ecosystem. This device is compatible just as before and you would also think the S8 coming in a few weeks time..

“At Samsung, we are focused on setting and exceeding the standard for VR experiences, making them even more accessible and delivering the highest in quality,” said Younghee Lee, Executive Vice President of Mobile Communications Business, Samsung Electronics. “The Gear VR with Controller expands our VR ecosystem to help consumers get more engaged and immersed in VR content – whether it’s games or videos.”

The new Gear VR with Controller offers 42mm lenses with 101-degree FOV (Field of View) and advanced distortion correction technology to minimize motion sickness. The Samsung Gear VR with Controller will support both micro USB and USB Type-C port with a converter in-box. Additionally, the Gear VR will have a strap on the headset to hold the Controller when it is not in use.

So that means when I get my S8 soon I will have to check this lad out perhaps Samsung might just bundle this with the phone on launch.. The price though but I would expect it to be a bit higher than previous due to the extras here..

You can now smell body parts in Virtual Reality with #OhRoma #SexTech #VR #CamSoda

Porn is one of the biggest industries in the world and with the launch of VR this is not going to go away anytime soon, In fact its going to be good for the industry. People that know me well know I am a fan of the VR world and have asked have I tried any of the apps yet and the answer is NO.. Perhaps I should see for myself but for me its just like squashing your head up to the TV at home seeing things bigger, I cant think for any reason how it will actually enhance the experience but hey.. You can tell us if you like… Like my timeline does be full of images suggesting sites to try and mostly these are paid visits which I totally disagree with and find it sad to be honest.. But since the explosion of VR  its obviously a win for the porn industry and they are not hanging around on cashing in..

Does this next step take the virtual piss though and who wold buy a canister of the dangly bits?? Thats how it works you buy canisters of a particular cent and they dont come cheap either.. This is where we are at now though so perhaps its time to get use to it..  Also this will come with its very own standalone app… The mask will cost from around €60 and the scents around €6. This is probably going to be the next best thing to a Virtual Doll.

OhRoma is a sensory mask that users attach to their virtual reality headset & synch with their teledildonics accessory. Just as a user sees, hears and feels in their 360-degree virtual surroundings while wearing their headset, with OhRoma they can now smell them too! Invented by the engineers at CamSoda Labs, users can choose from an assortment of sensual scents that are proven to excite, arouse and, ultimately, climax.

Users place the OhRoma mask over their face. The mask will heat up the cartridges and begin to produce various aromas. Users can utilize the app to pick and choose the aroma they want to smell. They can even combine aromas and switch between how heavy or light each scent is.

Well thats the short and curlys about this new piece of tech to enter the world and to be honest you could not deny it was coming… What do you think, Tell us below.

Amazon UK and US offering the Samsung Gear VR at great prices. #VR #VirtualReality

If you have not delved into the world of VR proper yet and sport comaptible devices the Samsung Gear VR is now going on the cheap and its a worthy investment if you have not got one when purchasing the devices. The Gear VR 2015/2016 is now discounted on Amazon UK and the US too. If you have a parcel motel account it would be advisable to use this for shipping..

Both the 2015 and 2016 models are available on the cheap and there is not much difference between the two so perhaps for first timers the older version could be a viable purchase or just hop right in and buy the newer 2016 model. They are the best out there offering a real immersive experience right now without having to fork out hundreds on other options that require super computers to run them…

#Review -The VR BOX – #VirtualReality #VR from Mobile Fun. (@mobilefun)

Over the last year the VR – Virtual Reality game has exploded and will probably continue to do so in the coming year, However another thing to watch out for is Augmented Reality. For now we shall stick to VR. We have tried and tested some 20 headsets to date or HMDs (Head Mounted Displays). We can of course opt for the cheap Google Cardboard or similar which we have covered quite a few off too if you dont want to go all out on the expense just yet but most people by now would have had some contact with either. The VR BOX is a common offering today and we see quite alot of them in retail but perhaps re-branded but thats no issue here unless we see some outlandish prices which we have done..

The VR BOX is a simple cheap effective way to begin the VR journey if you will after those flimsy cardboard units we see, saying flimsy does not mean they are weak by any means, most of what we have tried have been solid and last but only for so long they just look flimsy..

The benefit of HMDs is you are hands free not having to hold the unit to your face because for long usage your arms get tired so with this type you have a nice headband to take the weight away and sit back and enjoy the experience. The VR BOX is basic though yet offers what you need to start off. Its got great padding and good head support too with adjustable elasticated bands so there is no issue here when it comes to comfort or adjusting to suit your needs or perhaps anyone else in your group when sharing the experience.

Adjusting focus is another are here where its kept simple but moving the multipurpose toggles placed atop of the headset it takes seconds to adjust and its a simple process, unlike real cardboard units where you have no focal adjustment at all this is where a headset like this will benefit  you more..

There is also quite a bit of breathing space for the phone itself too from the sides that also act as port inputs should you need to charge the phone or if you are using wired headphones for example, This is good because at time you can get carried away then you hear that dreaded “Low Battery Warning” they have this covered on the VR BOX. I like that most though for the best experience i normally go wireless all round but again not everyone has wireless buds or cans then again they can suffer low battery warning too.. You get the idea.

The headset is a tad on the bulky side but we have to start somewhere however its not heavy which is good, I have tried some that have been heavy and with long periods of usage can become annoying but thankfully this is not the case here its very light….

Simplicity is key here and this headset offers that with nice straps and cushioning and all the other options I have mentioned but check out the video below for a review. This kind of headset is a good way to begin the VR experience before you try the really immersive stuff on more expensive offerings like gear VR which though is the best priced option available offering real immersion and after that you may fork out hundreds for the PSVR if you happen to own a PS4. Beyond that its supercomputers and expensive hardware. The choice is yours.

Head over to HERE and check them out there and see what else thy have to offer in the meantime.. Any questions fire away below or get me on social.. Thanks for reading… And thanks again to Mobile For sending this over to check out, just search VR in our search bar for the countless reviews to date on other options available.
