Whatsapp is now one of the most secure messaging apps by @VicenteA_George #WhatsApp #Android

After the acquisition of Whatsapp by facebook all customers were worry about the destiny of the app (us included).

But this week Whatsapp for Android received an update with an awesome new feature! “End-to-End encryption”.

WhatsApp

“End-to-end” means that “the people behind the curtain” won’t be able to know what the persons in the conversation are talking about. The company will serve as connection between users, but only the two users will have access to the conversation itself.

WhatsApp partnered with Open Whisper Systems for the launch, using open source code to build in the new features.

Earlier this year, a big scandal saw light regarding the US NSA and others (like facebook, Apple and if I’m not wrong Google) from let the government have access to personal data of their clients.

Back then a new hope emerge from the ashes to help us all, the new app Telegram became available in almost all app stores. Now this app is available for all platforms.

Telegram

With this new feature Whatsapp turns itself in the biggest messaging app to offer this kind of security. (the app have almost 600 millions actives users)

It’s still unknown when or if this feature will be avaible for WP and IOS but having it in Android is awesome!

You can download the new version of whatsapp here, in case you haven’t already (Android only)

And if you want to try something new but equally great, you can download Telegram here.

Tell us in the comments what do you think about this new feature? And stay tuned for more Tech Info!

#Jolla decide to create a new tablet via crowdsource. People Power . by @jimboireland #Tech

Jolla have been around some time now and have already a mobile device in the market which is apparently in 31 countries around the world,Ireland not been one of them bar the handful of users, numbers are not know to be percise on how many Jolla users are here but it aint a huge sum.

Jolla uses the OS called Sailfish OS which is another forked Android, personally forked Android devices are a waste of time, same applies to the FirePhone which also tells the same story, its not good enough the firephone has essentially flopped and with a drastic price cut its still remains to be seen how many units actually have been sold.

Ok who is this device for and who will buy it ? Hackers,Meego and Maemo geeks will,of course new customers will be interested too but not me,already its said its better than the Nokia N1 that was announced yesterday which is pure speculative talk at this point in time and of course if you do go ahead with buying you will once again have to wait a few months to recieve your new device, this alone puts me off the idea, same as the Nexus 6 pre-order issue right now,if i order i have to wait,if im paying out good money i want my product there and then, not an estimated date down the road, but them again im not a hacker but i dont need to hack the Nexus 6 either so…

No discret to Jolla the products have a nice build quality and the UI looks nice,it was just quick to launch on the first phone and the feelings was pretty much the same from everyone around the globe bar a few, again this is to be expected just like any other product, the Nokia N1 got a fair bashing yesterday and equally much welcomed too.

I do hope to see a refined OS and UI when it does eventually hit the public next year and since announcement this morning they have exceeded the funds they required to kick this off the ground so this is good news for them and congratulations to them on this achievement and i wish them well in the future.

Below we have a chart to compare with what its rivals are and where it has pros and cons, keep in mind the price here too..

If you want to know more about Jolla and want to see all the info and support the guys that are people powered head over to http://jolla.com/tablet

Enhance your Android experience with Z Launcher Beta from Nokia #Android #HomeScreen by @Tiwaash

Yesterday the world witnessed comeback of the Finish mobile giant which was once synonymy for mobile phones, yes we are talking of Nokia and the rebirth of Nokia in the consumer goods segment. We all know what happened in the recent past but the determined Nokia has comeback with a bang with a winner device the Nokia N1, the company’s first product after the device and services were taken over by Microsoft, and mind you this is a winner.

The N1 tablet runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop with the home grown launcher from Nokia which takes the whole Android experience to a new level, the Z Launcher. With fluid and clean UI running over the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop users get to experience an entirely new UI and guess what Nokia made the Z Launcher (Beta) available for free on the Play Store for USA & EU and provided the direct link for other regions to get a hands on experience of the Z Launcher to android users.

How Z Launcher Works?

Z Launcher is a unique launcher and we have never experienced anything like this before on any platforms yet, it is simple, clean, sleek and understands you and your requirements. Using Z Launcher is very easy just scribble a letter and there u get the list of all the apps, webpages, contacts containing that letter, can even search the web directly from your start screen. It understand what we are trying to communicate making it easy for us find everything right there from the main screen instead of panning through pages, everything available just with simple scribbling. Swiping from right to left works as backspace.

User Interface

The top row of the home screen has 3 horizontal scrollable pages showing the time, calendar & weather, which gets increased by one when using music player providing with option to pause or play music.

Below this there is a list of the recently used apps which change the order with usage.

Below this list we get four customizable apps which can be changed with simple press and hold and drag and drop, they don’t change with usage. In the center of this row there is a button which allows you to access the whole list of apps just but single bit on it.

Again you have an option of either scroll and scribble to find the app you been looking for.

This page has shortcuts for Play Store & Z Launcher Settings on the right corner just above the app list.

You can hide any item from appearing from the home screen by pressing and holding the app and instead of the app icon it changes to hide, hit hide and it’s gone from the list.

Z Launcher got its first update today, the details in the picture above.

So enjoy the redefined user interface on your old Android to give your device a new life. Download for free from Play Store if you are in USA or EU or download from here if you are elsewhere.

Let us know what you have to say about this innovative UI from Nokia in the comments below.

Disclaimer:
Please note, this post is based on experience of Z Launcher on Google Nexus 7 tablet so not all the features are covered here, please check here for full details.

A new app called Calorific developed by Nic Mulvaney will show you what 200 calories of your favourite food looks like, the devs have captured many photos of popular foods and you can see what calories are in selected food stuffs before you actually eat,it aims to help people be more aware of what their daily intake is which will be quite helpful for those who are trying to maintain a healthy living or who is currently on diet programmes.

Hard work has gone into the app with research, photos and products weighed all for your convenience.

Each food has been meticulously researched, weighed and photographed in high definition.

• Sort by name, weight or food type
• Compare interesting foods side by side

Drop – The Irish start-up that brings tech to the kitchen

Drop is a new kitchen innovation created by four Irish techies that just so happened to have an empty stomach and an idea at the same time.

Drop is a teardrop shaped measuring plate that pairs with an iPad app to turn cooking into something that doesn’t bring on sighs of complaint. It brings you through preparation, cooking and even serving – but it also has a few tricks up it’s sleeve that make it even more appealing. The Drop app knows that there’s a high chance that we just used our last bottle of vanilla extract, or whatever ingredient you can’t find in the back of the press – so it suggests alternatives to these ingredients with the click of a button, pretty neat right?

As well as that, say you only have 300g of flour, but you need 400g, just tell the app this and it’ll automatically adjust the amount of all the other ingredients so that whatever you’re making still turns out great.

What really makes sure of this device’s success though is it’s tie in with Harvey-Norman stores, as Co- founder and CEO Ben Harris says that they’ll be “in every store in Ireland”. This is a great achievement for them as it will ensure great sales, speaking of which, the device is set to cost €99.95 and can be bought on the 24th of November.

Exclusive interview with Thingsee by @Tiwaash #Startup #Tech #Haltian #ThingseeOne

Ever wondered how fast your son drove car when he was alone? Or wanted to know where he was going with his friends? Even better, wanted to know which direction you headed to while trekking or how high you have climbed or some complex physics? Well well I’m not trying to scare you with these questions, just introducing you with the unique Developer Device from the Haltian Visionary Labs the Thingsee. Yes, Thingsee is the answer to not only the questions asked there but to many more questions. We had an exclusive interview with dynamic Ville Ylläsjärvi, the 33 Year Old guy who is the Founder of Thingsee & Co Founder of Haltian. Read on to know more about Thingsee and what’s unique about this startup.

– Who are you guys?

Haltian is a Team of former Nokia people – we started the company roughly 2 years ago, and have since grown to a company employing over 70 great engineers & visionaries. We used to work at Nokia, in a team building completely new types of products.

– How did Thingsee idea come up?

We were working on a real-time asset tracking project inside Haltian Visionary Labs and our engineers were constantly talking about many other uses for the hardware. We realised the same system could be used in many, many other use cases as well – and also was a better fit for what we know best.

– What is your product Thingsee One?

Thingsee One is the World´s first smart developer device. It is a sensor device built to sense the surroundings and create meaning of real life events. It is meant for people who have ideas around how to use the internet of things to their advantage, be it in business and in life. With Thingsee, we want to also introduce a great tool for people to build new businesses without needing to invest in a hardware team. In a way, they get our expertise in Hardware design along the Thingsee One.

– What are the capabilities of Thingsee One?

We wanted to create something that is ultimately mobile – meaning that you can leave it behind to monitor or track stuff when you are gone. We included GSM, so that you´ll get the data & events from almost anywhere. We included a lot of sensors, because quite often the data the users get turns out to be useful in the end. We also added some very new sensors and connectivity, so that people can come up with new and crazy stuff. We made Thingsee One open source so that we are more an enabling, rather than a producing company. We aim at being one of the most user-friendly open source companies out there.

– Who is the team Thingsee?

The core Team is now Me (Ville) that got Thingsee started, Pasi Jokinen, the web services wizard  and Anu Lapola – the make-it-all-happen, In addition we have a great team of engineers and designers working on Thingsee project at Haltian.

– What are the Future plans?

We want to change things. We imagine that individuals and startups can compete head-to-head with established companies with their services & applications. We imagine people doing all sorts of new innovations with Thingsee. We imagine students learning to code with Thingsee. It Is quite nice to think that instead of investing over one million Euros into HW development, one brilliant entrepreneur can start with a few hundred Euros and a highly competitive offering

– Who are your partners?

We have built Thingsee using high quality components from global manufacturers. We will be announcing partnerships in the near future. However, we are also an open company and want to remain in an open dialogue with everyone.

Introducing Thingsee One:

Thingsee One is a developer device which is loaded with sensors to sense your surrounding and give you exactly what data you are looking for connected with your phone. It is beautiful piece of tech, with top notch build quality in a water resistant shell, with a monochrome display. Take a look at the official video to know what am I taking about.

Key Features:

• Open source developer device designed for Internet of Things innovations

• Ready to be used out of the box, comes with a mobile application and connection to a Thingsee server for demonstration and development purposes

• Thingsee OS has a Smart purpose engine that makes it possible to create events of the sensor data on the device
