This is the time of year you need to step up the game with home security and you need to get moving on it if not, with the shorter days and longer nights it give thieves and opportunists alike to keep an eye on your home and watch routines and so on but with the thanks to tech we can curb theft anywhere and security cameras are no better way to do so internally and externally for good measure. Recently I heard a so called security expert saying there is no need for internal cameras which it utter rubbish and whilst we can prevent access from outside if the crooks get in we can also get more footage from them so how this person came to this conclusion is beyond me.
We already have the eufy video doorbell and it has been a gift to have it installed as it has an excellent camera and is great for couriers for example if you are not at home and works a treat and still serves me well today and better again with the dark evenings and so on and again has great night vision the new 365 day battery life outdoor security camera is no different here and you will see in the video review below what I mean it is a great system to have and a great eco system to have in your home all in one app too rather than splitting your security requirements with several products and apps. You can also check out what Gold Years has to say about the product.
I have mine out back where I am building a new office and one on the side gate but we will focus on the back garden one and in the video samples below you will see the excellent clarity, the alarm sound and voice alerts and it is very clear and loud and the alarm is piercing, you can also zoom in on anything set your zones to stop false notifications and when it comes to notifications they are swift and give a thumbnail if a human is detected for example which is excellent all this again is present in their video doorbell.

The eufy security video doorbell is more than just that, it also serves as an excellent security camera as I have tested this in two capacities, one as the doorbell itself and a security camera out my back garden as when using it I noted the potential to serve in this capacity too due to the range and excellent footage which comes via a Sony 2K sensor and professional-grade lens.
I have tested many similar products here and they do a great job this one however for me so far ups the game a bit but we have more to test and compare here at techbuzz as we are now coming into the dark evenings closing in and we are getting back to work we need to remain vigilant on our security checks as people probably have turned off their cameras due to being at home like me for instance so it made perfect timing to get back in the game and check, Mostly I have couriers calling to the house and it worked a treat every time with super quick notifications and fast reaction time with no lag which some products give you.
The bell is rather on the large side but this is not a bad thing and a warning to anyone and yes it is great for the cold callers to your door even though you have a sign on the window telling such not to call you can just fob them off from your couch, same applies if you are out I find the repsonse time quick and of course you get the clips to match so you know who is there before you even consider talking to anyone. WIN!!!
Installation is easy once you have an existing bell you might need to drill a new hole to align it and make it secure because there is little naughty folk out there who like nicking bells for the laugh yet not realising they are caught on camera which is nice with a nice mugshot before they even get close, this is what this video doorbell does good, you can set the parameters on how far you want the detection to kick in which is great so you can avoid false negatives with people walking by your door etc this does depend though on how your front door is situated. You have the expected set up here with two wires, not needed in this case but there if required and you have the option to use a mechanical or digital chime plus you can change the tones too which is nice since doorbells are typically boring with a ding dong, not the case here. It is like a phone to, you can customise and I am all for that.
I live in a small private cul-de-sac but it has a gap for folk to walk through and this was an issue at the start but I was able to configure the doorbell to eliminate such activity and stop setting my phone off, you can snooze alerts in the app too but I find that pointless to some degree but it is a good feature to have due to the range on offer and what it can pick up from a further distance, Those with backdoor entrances for example in the country which is typical would love this as it can capture more than just the surrounding area but a wide area of coverage too which I like, it can effectively work as a standalone security camera in my view.
The app is simple to use which we go through below in the video review and works well on both iOS and Android as i tested on both to get a real idea as some variances can be present on different operating systems but overall this worked well on both and never missed a beat.
This company too offers more than many when it comes to other selling points, Brian from the company tells me,
Some of the things that make us different – we focus on user privacy by storing all footage locally on the device, so only the user has access to their footage. We also do all of our processing on the device which means that users get features including motion detection and geofencing at no extra cost. And since most of this takes place on the device, there’s no required monthly fee to use the doorbell.
Very important selling points and giving the consumer some assurance when it comes to privacy issues which is a huge cause for concern in the current climate. Would I suggest you buy one, well yes but they are a bit more expensive however you get excellent features which I would pay for and then the peace of mind behind with the company’s ethos.
Night time. Makes people aware you are being watched

Recently here on techbuzz we have reviewed the Eufy doorbell and their outdoor cameras and now it is time to check out their indoor solution to protect your home, Speaking of indoor security cameras an Irish “security expert” claimed on national there is no need for such cameras in the house which is codswallop if you want to protect your home properly and also they can be used to monitor pets and our older generation as many do today and not only that should intruders get in to your house you can capture images and footage.
The Eufy indoor pan and tilt camera is feature rich and most importantly your data is kept safe which is a priority of the company and after my testing it is an excellent indoor camera to have which sports AI detection pet detection and two way communication all in 2K, this is a wired camera and will need a wall socket for power and it is not a huge obstructive camera to have in the home, check out the full video walkthrough below for all the details and of course the footage… Also a side note this only works on 2.5ghz Wi-Fi

The Aegis 3NXC is the most versatile hardware-encrypted USB on the market: it is compatible with PCs and Macs, as well as any operating system, including Windows, Mac, Linux, Android and Symbian. This provides an effective way of safeguarding data across today’s remote workforces, where employees are using a diverse range of business and personal devices to carry out their work. The device automatically encrypts all information as the user uploads it, with military-grade AES XTS hardware encryption.
Last year we checked out their USB – A 3NX Flash Drive and Fortress L3 padlock and to date both have kept me safe and sound along with my data which is the topic of the day lately and everyone needs to buckle up now when it comes to storing or being in control of data.
The New Aegis 3NXC is a more current offering as more devices now move to USB-C there is little out there when it comes to security measures, here in Ireland we have no many laptops with USB-C but here is where this key gets more interesting, You mobile phone is one as most phones today are USC and not only this portable devices in particular so now it is easy to move data from your phone or tablet onto the key and your data is then safe and kept that way, None of my laptops have a USB-C port but this also works with an adapter from USB A- TO C , A workaround for products connecting to my current set up but none the less it works and future proofs upcoming tech peripherals using USB-C.
For use on mobile is great though you can also use other devices that have USB-C ports and with a screen to watch what is going on, For those on the go this is an idea product especially in my capacity with the amount of files and videos I would take on my smartphone on a daily basis it is a simple job to swap them over onto the flash drive and it is all kept safe.

It is now time to update and check your security detail at home as the shorter days are now moving in swiftly and there has been many incidents of pet theft too this product offers a two in one solution giving you a good recording of incidents with a built in floodlight and a piercing alarm tone.
The installation is simple you will need a drill and most likely a masonry drill bit and a screwdriver and once mounted and your device is charged up you just set up the device in the settings to your needs and leave it there to do its job and that is done rather well not missing a beat for notifications..
The app is as always but now with some new features including 2FA for an extra layer of security,we have covered the app before but go through it quickly again in the video review, All the same offerings are present as before with a simple to use UI that makes it easy to use and set up with the option of geofencing and also zones to limit false notifications and focus on certain areas within the cameras range, A lesson I have learned from before was just leaving the camera on full view it was picking up neighbours washing blowing on the line for example but this is not a bad thing and shows just how effective the camera is..
This floodlight camera can be used either in the front or rear of your house and it can be moved easily should you wish too, I have the front of my house covered so used out the back garden as this offers a better wider view and with the floodlight built in it gives you more in return over a standard camera and good high quality visuals so any intruder will be picked up before they even see the camera if they have not done their homework. Most criminals are opportunists, some professional and now use drones to check out peoples property for evaluation to see if you have dogs and so on the property and what else might be worth robbing.
You have two way audio again which is fine and of course the really annoying piercing alarm which is good and you also have IFTTT and smart assistant options and this time around no base station is needed to use which I like. Another thing I need to point out is your data privacy which is a growing concern with people buying such equipment but Arlo have said they are committed to protecting your privacy
Overall this is a great product and easy to use and set up and has worked flawlessly during my test run.
Arlo have sent us this to review with no compensation or copy approval or influence on my review.
We have reviewed the much welcomed Neos Security Camera last year here on techbuzz but they have some new additions to the family and are building an ecosystem and going forward Neos should look into outdoor camera to complete this and it would be an affordable win for the consumer. Why I say this is I have several systems in operation here and I just want one complete one with ONE app and not several but due to timing of products and availability and so it has not happened just yet and we have more new home security packages here to review and it is good timing due to the darker evenings and mornings soon approaching and due to the pandemic we all need to recheck out home security status.
Most of us have been at home and now work from home but there is demographic heading back to work and perhaps have forgotten to recharge the batteries and check their security system so go do it now. I have had this product prior release date and being a beta tester ran into issues but it is how it is so I could not give a real opinion but now I have the problems fixed I can and it is a win win for the consumer and simplicity is also a key factor in setting up..
These packs are great although some different configurations might be better to enhance the overall experience you could cover your house downstairs with 3/4 door sensors and cameras however this depends on your set up and you could buy separately these are small discreet cameras but everyone’s house if different and to have all doors covered would require more than one camera even though the motion sensor can pick up motion. More cameras are better, Speaking of NEOS should look into outside your house, prevention is better than cure and I feel they will look into this area if they dont well I give up ,if someone gets in they will do what they have to do and leave and at a cost but if they can be caught outside it leaves options open.
The leak detectors offer more though similar to MINUT POINT which has no cameras and again good idea but with this there is no visual evidence at hand to capture intruders. Having the leak detection though gives you a chance to act on an alert and placing them in the right place is important, I have moved into a new house and had water marks on the wall in my kitchen on the extension but they have seemed to have stopped so I placed the leak sensor there for now to see if anymore leaking was detected as the builder said it is the house settling which is plausible so i ran a test leaving them on top of doors just to see and kept giving me high temp warnings, It has been warm but you can adjust the parameters to fix this, now they are placed under places known for leaks in general and all is fine …
Notifications are quick which is important and no lag seen here the entry sensor kits and pir work quite well and deliver on what they are made for, entry sensors are quite handy as they can indicate the obvious and if placed right can also indicate if someone is at your door or trying to gain access, again I bring up the exterior cameras or even sensors NEOS should look into. Overall though this is a really great purchase to invest in and can only get better over time building on their ecosystem.
The Smart Leak Sensor Kit is designed to detect a single drop of water, preventing small leaks from turning into big problems. It also alerts you to unexpected changes to your home with built-in temperature and humidity sensors. The Smart Motion Kit can capture movements with the Neos Smart Motion Sensor and make any household item smart, from your cat flap to the cookie jar, with its contact sensor. Both kits integrate with the Neos SmartCam, converting it into a bridge so you can connect all your devices wirelessly and manage them from a single app to check up on your home from wherever you are in the world.

The Yubikey 5 NFC and Yubikey 5Ci are designed to protect your online accounts from phishing and account takeovers they use Two Factor Authentication which can be used to protect online accounts with more than a password. The Yubikey is physically strong and solid with the option to connect to your keys with the no battery or network connectivity required The quality is reinforced in the liquid and crush resistant made from reinforced fibreglass material hermetically sealed and injection moulded. The hardware keys can fit on your car keys, company swipe card to ensure your presence as required.
I had the opportunity to review the YubiKey 4 Nano, in 2017 and subsequently found many of the corporate companies in Ireland were using these hardware keys. The use of Two Factor Authentication allows access when a user can present two pieces of evidence to authentication mechanism e.g. Something you know and something you have.
Perspective:
To put this into perspective Techuzz Ireland have regularly posted scams from revenue rebates, shopping vouchers free etc. In 2019, a collection of 2.7 billion identity records, consisting of 774 million unique email addresses and 21 million unique passwords, was posted on the web for sale. If a user has not changed their password in the last few months or reuse the same password on multiple sites, they are leaving their private life open to hacking and their company. A quick check to see if your details have been hacked in recent times can be found on https://haveibeenpwned.com/
We would normally recommend from any site/email not to click on a link rather search on the web. ( If you do nothing from this review – Change your password today ! )

When deciding on Security option, the determination is required to establish what is required to protect, whether due regulatory requirements, good practise, quality standard etc. If a hardware key will fit these requirements then a referral to the yubico.com site to determine the recommended technology is recommended. The Yubico has a list of hundreds of services but doesn’t come with instructions included in the packaging but instructions are available from their site.
Setup:
The setup for each service or site can vary, Yubikey has provided clear instruction on their web site how the setup is carried out. (Some basic networking knowledge would be an advantage)
Using Chrome, Firefox or Opera, log in to Facebook.
Click the Settings and Account icon, and then select Settings.
In the left pane, select Security and Login.
Next to Use two-factor authentication, click Edit.
If two-factor authentication is not configured yet, click Get Started. Or if two-factor authentication is on, then skip to Step 7.
Select the most convenient method of one-time password authentication.
To the right of Security Key, click Setup.
Plug a YubiKey into a USB port, when the YubiKey starts to blink, tap the button or golden edge on the YubiKey.
Enter a name for the security key, then click Continue, and then click Done.
If you need to register additional YubiKeys, click Add New Security Key, and follow steps 7-8
Facebook setup
The instructions are very detailed but would require some technical knowledge to set up. Once set up, the user has to tap the gold contact on the Yubikey to touch contact. (This is not a fingerprint action rather mechanical action) as requested by the site.
Note: Many sites/ services do not support hardware authenticator rather via sending of SMS (text) messages with the code or via an authenticator app, e.g. LinkedIn has not the option for hardware authenticator but this can be achieved via a password manager e.g. LastPass Premium
Note: if purchased by an individual for a work Laptop on their sites, many IT departments lock the USB drives preventing its use. (IT admin can resolve)
Conclusion:
Many recent articles suggest password are dead been replaced by Software or hardware authentication methods due the complexity of the characters that are required to prevent brute force attacks by automated software. Where strong passwords are used again these may be compromised if used on several sites or not changed regularly.
The Yubikey 5 NFC and Yubikey 5Ci are stronger options as compared to a text message which can be bypassed by cybercriminals. (but are better than a password alone) The Yubikey are used in many corporate environments (and can be used as a standalone for individuals) as the reduce the password related calls to IT helpdesk. The 2FA is faster than SMS code and more secure, they have the option of using one device for hundreds of sites. The Yubico is only one form of security, IT security should constantly monitor the network. anti-virus up to date etc with no one solutions fits all.
Note: No system can give 100% security to prevent hacking (some Air gap network do a good job but impractical for most companies). Each security system used reduces the chance of the hacking to a level where only a very determined hacker, can access. The future may use
AI technology to identify abnormalities within a corporate network to pass to a human to intervene to diminish the risks.
Today The question is not to use 2FA, it’s what methodology, hardware, software etc to minimize the risk, Yubico is a trusted brand ( which is an important consideration) using global authentication standards to ensure the individual key can ensure secure access to your computer, website, networks and phones. A brand we have used in the past and confident (as anyone can be) related to Cybersecurity the risks of a compromised account has been diminished.
Apricorn, the leading manufacturer of software-free, 256-bit AES XTS hardware-encrypted USB 3.2 storage devices, has launched the Aegis Secure Key 3NXC – the first device of its kind to have a built-in USB-C connector. This makes it the only hardware-encrypted USB that is compatible with the next generation of laptops, smartphones, tablets and hubs, without the need for a separate A-to-C adapter.
The Aegis 3NXC is the most versatile hardware-encrypted USB on the market: it is compatible with PCs and Macs, as well as any operating system, including Windows®, Mac®, Linux, Android and Symbian. This provides an effective way of safeguarding data across today’s remote workforces, where employees are using a diverse range of business and personal devices to carry out their work. The device automatically encrypts all information as the user uploads it, with military-grade AES XTS hardware encryption.
Jon Fielding, Apricorn’s managing director EMEA, says: “Even before the COVID-19 pandemic, remote and mobile working was on the rise, along with the associated risks to data. As the global workforce shifted from office to home practically overnight, the demand for our encrypted secure keys skyrocketed, as did the demand for our A-to-C adapters. We accelerated the release of the Aegis Secure Key 3NXC to provide an efficient way of ensuring that employees using MacBooks, iPads and Android devices can securely store and move sensitive data, wherever and however they’re working.”
The Aegis Secure Key 3NXC completes the Secure Key 3NX family, which Apricorn updates constantly to address evolving security threats and business needs. The 3NXC was created in response to a market that’s moving towards smaller and thinner laptops and tablets that can’t accommodate a USB-A port.
Particularly suitable for highly regulated sectors such as defence, finance, government, manufacturing and healthcare, the Aegis Secure Key 3NXC allows businesses to support safe and productive remote working on a large scale, ensuring that all workers follow information security best practice and comply with regulations such as GDPR.
Ultra-compact in size, the Secure Key 3NXC line is priced to allow affordable data protection across an expanding global remote workforce, while delivering all the advanced security features found in the Aegis family of secure drives. By offering a range of six storage capacities from 4GB to 128GB, the device allows IT to closely align deployments with the storage needs of each individual employee, reducing overall cost. Prices range from £48 to £145.
Jon Fielding continues:
The security and operational advantages of the Aegis Secure Key 3NXC include:
No software – so there’s nothing to keylog or to hack.
OS agnostic – the device is completely cross platform compatible.
Onboard keypad – all authentication takes place within the device itself.
All data, passwords and encryption keys are 256-bit encrypted at rest.
No host computer is involved in setup, authentication or encryption.
Forced enrollment – no default PINs ensures that data is not put at risk by employees who fail to change a factory set PIN before deployment.
IP-68 validation against water and dust damage.
Separate administrator and user access.
Read-only options that can be enforced by the administrator or set by the user if allowed by policy.
Highly configurable with policy such as time out values, Data recovery PINs, and programmable PIN lengths.
Brute force PIN attack protection.
Ability to automatically configure multiple devices remotely using Apricorn’s Aegis Configurator tool.
The 3NX family offers one unique feature that is not available on any other hardware encrypted device: the ability to toggle between Fixed Disk and Removable Media (US Pat. No 10,338,840). FIPS 140-2 Level 3 validation is expected shortly.
New research released today has revealed one in three Brits (21.5 million people) have experienced a leak in the last year. With the average leak costing £632.80, this has cost the nation an eye-watering £13.6 billion. In the longer term, 44.77 million UK residents have experienced a leak in their current or past home.
The research, conducted by Neos is aiming to raise awareness of the damage that leaks from taps and pipes can cause. Many people don’t take precautions against this threat – only one in ten Brits have equipped a leak detector and 11% don’t have insurance – because it is a hidden problem that often only comes to light when it’s too late and the damage is done.
London is the UK’s leak capital, with a shocking 81% of people experiencing a leak in their current or previous home. However, Scots are the most likely to have experienced a leak in the last year (38%). Homes in the South-West of the country are the most leak free, with nearly half (41%) of residents saying they’ve never experienced a leak from a pipe or tap.
Interestingly, the data also revealed people living in council housing are less likely to experience a leak – with 52% of homeowners and 55% of private renters experiencing a leak in their property, in contrast to just 42% of those living in a council house.
Including costs covered by individual’s insurers or landlords, leak repair forced Brits to cough up an average of £632.80 per incident, although the research found that it can cost individuals up to £12,000 to repair the damage. Leak victims in Northern Ireland tend to pay the most (£724.40) to fix the damage and those in the East Midlands are most likely to nab a bargain, only paying £424.70 on average. As well, while 30% of those who had experienced a damaging leak had the cost completely covered by their insurance, shockingly 24% of people ended up paying for all of the repairs themselves because they didn’t tell their insurer, perhaps because they didn’t understand their policy or feared being penalised.
Matt Poll, co-founder and CEO, Neos says, “Leaks in the home are an incident that many of us don’t think about until they happen. The data has proven, however, that they actually affect most of us. Try asking your friends and family about their experiences – you’ll be surprised at how many have suffered a damaging leak, and at a significant cost to the person if they don’t have insurance.”
He continued, “While these findings are worrying, I hope they empower people to seek out options to actively protect their homes from leak damage. Installing leak sensors means that even if a single drop of water is where it shouldn’t be, you will know straight away and be able to act before real damage is caused. There are also other simple steps you can take to protect your home, like switching off your water when you’re out for more than a day or not running water consuming devices, like washing machines and dishwashers, when you’re not home.”
