Tech Waste Reduction: Plastic Injection Moulding as An Eco-Friendly Practice

As climate change is upon us, experts urge the competent companies to reduce waste for a more sustainable future. The culture of consumerism and capitalism has accelerated waste production, leading to approximately two billion metric tons of municipal solid waste created across the world, according to Statista. Regrettably, the forecast for the upcoming years is far from being positive since it is expected for the global waste to reach four billion tons by 2050.

One of the biggest culprits in this situation is plastic, a material so indispensable yet harmful to the environment. Plastic pollution has been responsible for years of increased consumption and has affected people’s health, but scaling up good practices can change the course.

Introducing plastic injection moulding is considered an eco-friendly way of reducing waste production, and can help sustain the rise of a circular economy. Let’s learn more about it.

What does plastic injection moulding provide?

Plastic injection moulding is an efficient manufacturing process through which new products are created without unnecessary waste. While it’s usually done for large products, an injection moulding company can collaborate with innovative entrepreneurs who plan prototyping and low-volume production.

This is how the technology supports the chance of a circular economy, as unused materials are involved in the manufacturing processes by being recycled as many times as possible into production. The machines ensure sustainable manufacturing by:

  • Leveraging exact material measurements that limit production waste;
  • Ensuring mass production through machines with reduced downtime;
  • Being flexible with recyclable, BPA-free plastics while creating high-quality materials;
  • Having a low environmental risk due to a limited chemical exposure and reduced emissions;

How does this sustainable injection moulding differ from traditional procedures?

New techniques for plastic injection moulding help recycle plastic materials efficiently, but there are many other reasons why manufacturers should ditch the traditional methods, such as the following:

  • The high energy consumption in processes such as the melting of plastic materials;
  • The considerable material waste due to the fine-tuning process;
  • The use of virgin plastics is the most harmful to the environment;

Newer technologies and guidelines helped injection moulding follow environmental standards in order to operate more sustainably. According to https://www.hsv-tmp.com/, new plastic injection moulding happens in consideration of zero waste and circular production guidelines.

What makes plastic injection moulding sustainable?

While it still uses plastic materials, injection moulding can be environmentally friendly, whether during the manufacturing process or after. This is where key strategies come and change the game with:

  • Energy-efficient practices, such as advanced heating systems to reduce energy consumption or Energy Management Systems (EMS) that can optimise energy usage;
  • Less material waste can be achieved by improving the mould design with optimised runner systems or implementing lean manufacturing practices;
  • Better selection of materials, such as biodegradable plastics, bio-based plastics, and recycled plastics, that can significantly reduce the environmental impact;

Advanced moulding techniques could go hand in hand with recycling methods, enabling the best materials to be used to create new products that ensure durability and long-term efficiency. This could only happen with the right standards and compliance for both sectors.

What operating standards must moulding companies implement?

Injection moulding facilities can make a difference for the environment by operating according to stringent regulations. These can include quality management systems (QMS), production documentation, and traceability to deliver the best products and come clean in their audits.

Some of the certifications involved include:

  • ISO 9001 for quality management system. The certificate proves the company’s improvement, risk management practices, and qualitative processes;
  • IATF 16949 is the automotive standard. The global standard is required for facilities with specific automotive use, which offers access to the automotive supply chain;
  • ISO 13485 for medical devices. This qualification is necessary for moulding medical devices and equipment that includes rigorous rules for process validation and change control;

Moulding facilities must also follow the infrastructure requirements for audits, which manage processes like traceability, measuring equipment, and the production environment.

What about the standards for recycling efforts?

When it comes to plastic recycling, processes should be easier to implement, but are often met with bureaucratic challenges. Ideally, ISO standards that should function across borders should demonstrate a facility’s capacity to properly manage waste, hence the following standards:

  • ISO 24161:2022 for waste collection and transportation. The guidelines assess the proper vocabulary for waste collection and transportation to reduce issues with responsibility and reporting boundaries;
  • ISO 14001 for Environmental Management System (EMS). This global standard involves the necessity for setting objectives and monitoring progress that apply to emissions or water management;
  • ISO 45001 for Occupational Health. The standard requires companies to identify the hazards and risks present in the area, and implement control with enhanced strategies;

Environmental compliance is still evolving, considering that the pressure of climate change was not this urgent in the past decades. Therefore, keeping up to date with the latest introduction in requirements can be done with the help of a professional advisor, so facilities can continue operating legally and responsibly.

Injection moulding is indispensable, so what products are made with it?

Plastic injection moulding is necessary in more than commercial products, such as vending machine components or equipment housing. The industry is part of an expanded market that needs to be supplied:

  • Medical components: disposal bins, wall mounts, medication trays;
  • Residential construction: roofing vents and railing gaskets;
  • Home products: wire ties and flower pots;
  • Food service: high-temperature serving pans;
  • Toys: high-end collectible models;

Therefore, plastic injection moulding is an important manufacturing process delivering the products we use every day without even noticing. Professionals across diverse industries need injection moulding to keep supplying the necessary products while meeting the most recent environmental standards in order to help fight waste management and operate in relation to the ecosystem.

What’s your take on plastic injection moulding?

As an effort to minimise waste, facilities approach advanced technologies like plastic injection moulding to maximise production while operating in a waste-free manner. This technology is innovative through precise moulding models that reduce waste, and through the use of the right temperatures and practices to create long-lasting products. With the right compliance standards, facilities for recycling and injection moulding could collaborate towards a safer and cleaner future.

Telecom Hype vs Reality: 2026 Anti-Trends Reveal What Won’t Deliver

Every year, the telecoms industry finds a new frontier to get excited about. AI will transform operations overnight. Satellites will redraw the broadband map. XR will unlock immersive consumer experiences. 6G will change everything again.

But history suggests that commercial gravity tends to reassert itself.

As we move through 2026, the industry may find that several of its loudest narratives are running ahead of practical returns. That doesn’t mean innovation is misplaced. It means the gap between technological possibility and commercial viability remains stubbornly wide.

Here are five areas where expectation may outpace impact:

Satellites remain supportive, not dominant

Low Earth orbit satellite services have made impressive technical strides. They have strengthened resilience, improved rural connectivity, and introduced new competitive dynamics into fixed broadband markets.

However, satellites still face physical and economic constraints. Capacity remains finite. Costs per delivered gigabyte are materially higher than fibre. Performance can be affected by geography and environmental conditions.

For operators, satellite partnerships may enhance coverage and disaster recovery strategies. But as a mass-market substitute for terrestrial broadband, the economics remain challenging. Fibre and fixed wireless continue to dominate where density allows.

The likely outcome is coexistence rather than displacement, reflecting a broader pattern seen in many telecom technology hype cycles.

Generative AI will increase costs before returns

No technology has captured executive attention more completely than generative AI. Operators are investing heavily in copilots, automation tools, AI-driven customer service, and network optimisation.

While the exuberance around AI remains high, 2025 saw the first signs of the hype cycle cooling, and the financial viability of generative AI relative to the scale of investment required is likely to become one of the central questions for telecom operators in 2026.

Large language models require substantial compute resources, and telecom operators are already facing rising cloud and infrastructure costs associated with early AI deployments. Licensing fees, cloud capacity, integration work, governance frameworks, and new skill requirements all add to the cost base. For many operators, AI may initially increase OPEX before delivering any measurable revenue uplift.

The more sustainable opportunity may lie in targeted, operational use cases such as fraud detection, assurance automation, accelerating product launch cycles, and field service optimisation rather than grand, customer-facing reinventions.

AI will matter. But disciplined deployment may prove more valuable than sweeping transformation narratives.

XR adoption remains limited

Extended Reality continues to generate enthusiasm in vendor ecosystems. Yet mainstream consumer adoption remains limited.

Headsets are improving, but hardware cost, comfort, battery life, and limited everyday use cases constrain mass appeal. Global XR headset shipments remain modest compared with mass-market devices such as smartphones or PCs, limiting the scale of near-term consumer demand. Most compelling deployments today sit in enterprise niches relevant to telcos, such as training, remote assistance, and design collaboration, where ROI for operators can be clearly demonstrated.

Until devices become lighter, cheaper, and seamlessly integrated into daily workflows, XR is likely to remain specialised rather than ubiquitous for telecom purposes.

The promise of immersive connectivity persists. However, the commercial inflection point has not yet arrived.

5G Standalone is slower to deliver value

Standalone 5G was designed to unlock ultra-low latency services, network slicing, and enterprise innovation for telecom operators. Deployment, however, has been slower than early projections suggested, with industry studies revealing that only around 70 operators have deployed 5G SA so far.

While adoption is progressing, monetisable enterprise use cases are still emerging. Many consumer applications do not visibly differentiate between non-standalone and standalone deployments.

The challenge is not technical capability, but demand creation. Without clear vertical solutions or compelling developer ecosystems, advanced network features risk underutilisation.

The industry may need to recalibrate expectations around the pace of monetisation. 5G SA’s value for telcos may unfold gradually rather than explosively.

6G remains a long-term prospect

6G research is accelerating globally, with governments and vendors outlining ambitious visions. Yet commercial rollout remains many years away.

In the meantime, many of the performance gains associated with early 6G discussions, such as improved speeds, lower latency, and AI-driven optimisation, can be delivered through continued 5G evolution, fibre expansion, Wi-Fi advances, and software innovation.

6G will shape the next decade. It is unlikely to define this one for operators today.

Focus on practical fundamentals

None of this suggests innovation is misplaced. Telecom operators depend on forward investment. But as capital discipline tightens across the industry, the focus is shifting from technological possibility to measurable value.

The strongest returns may come not from headline-grabbing breakthroughs, but from expanding fibre intelligently, automating operations pragmatically, investing in skills alongside software, and building sustainable enterprise propositions.

In the telecoms industry, progress is rarely linear. The technologies that ultimately reshape the market are often those that quietly compound value over time.

Hype cycles rise quickly. Commercial reality moves more deliberately.

New AI Model Improves Personalized Blood Glucose Prediction for Type 1 Diabetes

Jeonbuk National University Researchers Develop an AI Model For Personalized Blood Glucose Monitoring

The hybrid model integrates three components to address key challenges and was rigorously evaluated, paving way for accurate blood glucose prediction

Patients with Type 1 diabetes (T1D) require accurate and consistent monitoring of their blood glucose levels. Over the past decade, AI models have been explored to tackle this challenge; however, inter-patient variability and large data volumes remain key challenges. In a new study, researchers present BiT-MAML, a model-agnostic algorithm aimed at personalized blood glucose prediction of patients with T1D. This approach overcomes the limitations of existing models and enables precise predictions in real clinical settings.

Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is an autoimmune condition in which the body’s own immune system attacks insulin-producing cells. As a result, patients with T1D must closely monitor their blood glucose (BG) levels and rely on insulin injections or pumps. Even small miscalculations or oversights can lead to unregulated blood sugar levels, leading to potentially life-threatening complications.

Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) systems have emerged as a promising tool for predicting and forecasting BG levels. Over the past decade, researchers have explored artificial intelligence (AI) models for improving the prediction accuracy of CGM systems. However, differences in physiology between patients and poor adaptation for new users persist to challenge the widespread adoption of this technology in real-world settings. In addition, traditional models often focus on either short-term or long-term glucose patterns, but not both.

In an attempt to address these issues, a research team led by Professor Jaehyuk Cho from the Department of Software Engineering at Jeonbuk National University in South Korea, have developed an innovative model, named BiT-MAML, aimed at tackling inter-patient variability in BG prediction. Explaining further, Prof. Cho says, “BG dynamics are not uniform across all patients. The physiological patterns of an elderly patient are vastly different from those of a young adult.” Adding further, he says, “Our model demonstrates how this variability can be accounted for by developing more personalized models.” Their findings were published in Scientific Reports on August 20, 2025.

BiT-MAML (where “BiT-“ stands for Bidirectional LSTM-Transformer” and “MAML” stands for “Model-Agnostic Meta-Learning”) uses hybrid architecture combining two deep learning models: bidirectional long-short-term memory (Bi-LSTM) and Transformer. Bi-LSTM processes time-series BG data bidirectionally, precisely capturing short-term patterns. Simultaneously, the transformer, utilizing a multi-head attention approach, efficiently models long-term patterns, capturing complex day-to-day and lifestyle-based cyclical variations. During training, the researchers applied a meta-learning approach known as Model-Agnostic Meta-Learning (MAML) that helps the model quickly adapt to new and diverse patients using only a small amount of training data by learning from a wide range of patient examples.

To test model performance, the researchers adopted a Leave-One-Patient-Out Cross-Validation (LOPO-CV) scheme. “In simple terms, we train the AI on five patients, then test it on the sixth patient it has never seen before,” explains Prof. Cho. “This is effective for assessing the model’s ability to generalize to unseen patients.”

The model demonstrated significantly reduced prediction error compared to conventional models. Notably, the prediction error varied from an excellent 19.64 milligram/decilitre (mg/dL) for one patient to a challenging 30.57 mg/dL for another. While these results represent a clear improvement over the standard LSTM models, they also highlight the persistent difficulty of managing inter-patient variability in real-world settings. “Our study shows how AI-based BG prediction models should be evaluated to improve both trust and model performance,” concludes Prof. Cho. “Addressing this challenge will contribute to the development of effective CGM models that can serve diverse patients with T1D, from children to elderly.

These findings attest to the fact that the development of effective personalized BG prediction requires the use of advanced AI models incorporating robust evaluation methods that can transparently report the full spectrum of performance.

TCL Sparks Inspiration Across Italy with Olympic Winter Games Themed OOH Campaign and Brand Activations

TCL, a Worldwide Olympic and Paralympic Partner, has launched a large-scale OOH campaign across Milan to celebrate the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026. Featuring advertising in more than 30 high-traffic locations and hundreds of placements throughout Milan and surrounding travel gateways, the campaign will run throughout the Olympic Winter Games period, with selected placements continuing until the end of March after the Paralympic Winter Games conclude.

As the Olympic Winter Games host city, Milan will welcome countless tourists heading to watch the action live. TCL hopes to spread the campaign message of ‘Inspire Greatness’ to global and local audiences, aligning the brand with the collective spirit, ambition, and human stories at the heart of the Olympic Winter Games.

Across Milan, TCL’s visuals appear along major arterial roads, on sightseeing buses, within metro stations, and at key travel points including Milan’s central railway stations, Malpensa and Linate airports and beyond into Venice and Verona. One of the campaign’s most visible installations is a billboard mounted on the 90-meter-high Tower of Municipal Technical Services in central Milan, establishing a strong visual presence across the city skyline.

“The theme of our OOH campaign and experiences is all around Inspiring Greatness – and this isn’t just for the athletes competing in the Olympic Winter Games, but for all of us who dare to push the boundaries,” said Stefan Streit, CMO, TCL Europe. “Our presence across Milan is designed to bring the spirit of this huge sporting moment into our everyday lives.”

Beyond outdoor visibility, TCL is also inviting audiences to engage with the brand through public-facing showcase in Milan. At Milan Central Station, TCL has launched TCL Edelweiss Land, a creative showcase located in Piazza Duca d’Aosta. Open daily from 10am-10pm until the 22 February, the installation spans over 500 square meters and offers visitors a space to try out the latest TCL innovations such as the TCL SQD-Mini LED TV X11L.

Designed around environmentally conscious principles, the showcase reflects TCL’s commitment to responsible innovation while offering hands-on experiences and photo-worthy moments.

TCL’s commitment extends through the TCL Road to Milano Cortina 2026 Tour – a travelling initiative that will visit multiple Italian cities at key shopping centers. Kicking off in Rome in November 2025, the tour has staged successful pop-up activations in Rome, Turin and Venice, and now arrives in Milan. It continues at MILAN IL CENTRO ARESE, running through to 15 March, where TCL has visibility on the balaustre of the ice-skating area next to the booth. TCL’s Olympic Winter Games themed booth is also open at the Milano Certosa offline store.

Supporting the Olympic Winter Games On-Site and Worldwide

TCL will help millions of fans to enjoy the Olympic Winter Games on-site and worldwide by providing TVs, digital signage, and technical assistance to the Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS) so that media at the International Broadcasting Centre can bring Milano Cortina 2026 to global audiences. TCL’s ‘screen universe’ and other innovations such as AI-enabled air conditioners will also be featured in a TCL space at the Milano Olympic Village, showing how technology gives fans more choice than ever in how they enjoy the Olympic Winter Games, showing how technology gives fans more choice in how they experience the Olympic Winter Games.

TCL is also present with branding and devices in several NOC Houses, the official homes of the National Olympic Committees where fans, athletes, and delegations gather to celebrate.

TCL is also helping to ensure athletes participating in the Olympic Winter Games are ready for action. As they settle in, TCL’s next-generation home appliances such as smart washing machines and dryers are helping them to enjoy a new level of comfort at the Anterselva and Livigno Olympic Villages, while TCL TVs help them relax and unwind. TCL is also supporting the “Athlete Moment”, providing the display technology that will connect athletes with their loved ones for moments of celebration immediately after each event.

TCL UK earns highest engagement at the Olympic Winter Games

The UK division of TCL recently recorded the highest online engagement across the Olympic Winter Games, according to findings compiled by Quantcast.

The AdTech firm tracked UK engagement across the open internet, including news sites and blogs, identifying both the sponsors and sports that received the greatest levels of interaction during the event. TCL saw the largest increase in online engagement across all sponsors, at 30 per cent.

These results reflect the strength of TCL’s approach to the Olympic Winter Games. Rather than simply appearing as a sponsor, we executed a series of activations designed to create genuine audience connection, most notably the local UK ‘In My Zone’ campaign, which featured short-form social content created directly with athletes. The campaign showcased how TCL’s TVs, soundbars and home technology support athletes in their day-to-day lives, from analysing track footage and self-coaching sessions, to gaming for mental reset, family movie nights and recovery routines.

Through a combination of local and global activations and an omnichannel strategy that balanced creativity with reach, TCL was able to meaningfully connect with audiences throughout the Olympic Winter Games.
