VT Networks has thrown its support behind Ireland’s first IBM Watson Internet of Things (IoT) Hackathon, to be held Oct. 7-9 at the PorterShed in Galway.
Participants will be creating IoT solutions that connect with IBM’s Watson — a powerful cognitive engine. Experts will be on hand to provide guidance throughout the process, from hardware and software prototyping to pitching their idea.
VT Networks will be offering use of developer kits, free connectivity and support to any participants that experiment or develop with SIGFOX — a low-power, wide-area network (LPWAN) dedicated to the Internet of Things.
“We believe there is fantastic potential to combine SIGFOX and the power of Watson. Our network can transport data from a large number of sensors to the cloud efficiently and affordably, where Watson can provide advanced insights and analytics,” said Patrick Robinson, Director of Business Development at VT Networks.
Participants will be eligible for prizes, and will also own the intellectual property behind anything they create during the event. This event is ideal for developers, technologists, startups, students, researchers and post graduates.
Refreshments will be provided, and participants who are deep into development are welcome to bring a sleeping bag and catch a nap while they work through the night.
SIGFOX is the world’s leading provider of low-bandwidth connectivity that is dedicated to the IoT. The French company maintains the cloud and core network in France, while partnering with local operators to roll out networks across the world. For more information, visit www.sigfox.com.

I got these to review as I ride a lot and need a decent set of wireless headphones to use that aren’t too obtrusive and are comfortable to wear over a long period of time.
Whats in the box.
1 x Wireless Earbuds
1 x Sport Carry Pouch
4 x Ear Gels
3 x Stabilizers
1 x Micro-USB Cable
1 x User Guide
1 x Quick Start Guide
The carry case that’ll easily fit even jeans pockets or slip into any computer or tablet sleeve
Build
They quite short in between each but but that’s not a bad thing as you don’t want them hanging down and getting caught in things, the are slightly plastic for my liking but for a general user this isn’t a problem as you`ll be wearing them for comfort and sound quality, buttons are quite tactile on the control unit and felt easy to find after some usage.
Pairing And Compatibility
I didn’t run into problems either pairing them or using them with a number of devices. The only issue I found is that you don’t seem to be able to pair them with more than one device at a time or at least I haven’t been able too. Charging is done via a small (and I mean small) usb cable with an apparent use time of 9.5hrs (Haven’t used them for that long but I’m assuming that this is dependent on a few factors) I must also say they manufacturer says the Bluetooth range on these is 150ft but I haven’t tested this any more than 50ft so it *could* possibly be right.
Sound Quality
The bass of the headset is rather surprisingly good but the high end seems a tad tinny (again this is a personal preference you may think differently) But if you’re a sound aficionado you`ll obviously be going for something a lot more expensive, that isn’t to say that these have a bad sound, like I said I was quite surprised….ok its not Dolby Digital or THX 9.1 but for a quick spin out or a fitness person these are great… Call quality is again ok I did notice a slight crackle on one call but having made a good few using these that was a one off.
Overall Verdict
These are REALLY comfortable to wear on extended rides and I think In the long run people would forgive the shortcomings of the plasticy build quality, The sound as I have said is rather good for a pair of earbuds in this price range. Overall if you want a pair of earbuds to do some fitness training or for that evening stroll when you need to chill out after a hard day these are just what your looking for.
One thing I like here to note is the colour, they are bright and stand out and look better than the plain Black look most similar offerings tend to come in so you will be noticed and people will ask “Hey what are they”…..
It was four years ago this month that an app named Tinder first made an appearance in the App Store and, since then, the dynamic of online dating has shifted considerably. While long-standing dating websites focused on using a wide range of information to find your ideal match, Tinder replicated the more realistic scenario of making the call based on the person’s image, along with some minor nuggets of information, similar to trying to pick someone up in a bar. This simplified approach has worked a treat with 40 million people who have downloaded the app since it first became available in 2012. Tinder is due to turn 4 years old today the 12th of September. Tinder has really become a phenomenon in online dating check out some more..
This infographic by Carvaka (https://carvakasextoys.co.uk/) tells the story of Tinder from its foundations in a California university through to the billion-dollar enterprise that it is today. The company has had a brief but eventful history, not least with co-founder Sean Rad being deposed as CEO in late 2014 before returning to the role within a matter of months. Tinder has also been targeted by naysayers who believe that it is taking a shallow approach to dating, but considering how successful the business has become, dissenting voices won’t bother its powerbrokers in the slightest.
Every single day, there are 1.6 billion swipes worldwide on Tinder, 26 million of which will end up in a match. Also, contrary to its common perception as a platform for mostly hook-ups, 80% of its users are actively seeking a long-term relationship. Even the move into freemium monetisation hasn’t stalled its progress; it was introduced almost a year ago and had one million subscribers in less than six months, with that figure set to hit two million by the end of 2016.
Tinder’s popularity shows no sign of abating. If anything, the introduction of features such as Tinder Social, where you can see your friends’ social plans for a particular night, proves that this hugely successful dating app is very much on a winning streak. Check out the info graphic below for a cool guide on Tinder’s impressive four years of existence.

I like to travel as light as possible and when tech is concerned this is never that easy especially when sporting my laptop, At home I have a simple set up but it takes up space and when I travel my laptop is a cumbersome object without the extra companion tablet or chrome-book all depending on what I might be doing.. But how about something you can bolt onto the side of your current Laptop without the need for a companion monitor or device?? Jabra today have announced their first true wireless sports earbuds under its new Elite franchise. They are a true training aid which are waterproof and delivers freedom of movement, ground-breaking in-ear fitness analysis, strong battery life and great music for anyone who wants to work out. Jabra are a regular here at techbuzz and of late their products have been quality and we continue to use when applicable which is quite often.. The Elite Sport supports all major smartphone operating systems (both Android & iOS) and also has a focus on the in-call experience. This is thanks to earbuds that analyse external sounds and automatically switch to the earbud with least background noise. These state-of-the-art earbuds deliver superior audio quality for calls and music without wires.
True wireless for true freedom
Designed with true freedom in mind, Jabra Elite Sport delivers a cord-free wearing style whether you choose to use one or both earbuds. They offer outstanding stereo sound for calls and music, as well as full sports functionality.
With an array of ear gels and ear wings presented in-box, as well as foam tips for passive noise-cancellation and enhanced bass, you can be confident of a secure, comfortable fit. At the same time, audio pass-through allows you to hear your surroundings at the touch of a button.
When it comes to phone calls, Jabra Elite Sport benefits from two integrated microphones in each earbud. One captures your voice and the other focuses on external noise. Together, the earbuds overlay the two feeds, identify the background noise and remove it, allowing you to take calls without interruption, listen to your favourite songs or hear in-ear training tips. If a call comes in whilst you’re running, voice controls and audio prompts let you manage your calls without having to touch your phone. The earbud will run up to three hours of calls and music when fully charged – more than enough for most workouts – plus up to six hours of additional charge from the compact carry-case.
Workout without wires
With 77 per cent of people preferring to train without wires, (to avoid the cable getting caught and pulling the earbuds out), and 69 per cent regularly listening to music as they workout, it’s no surprise the first offering in the Jabra Elite true-wireless franchise comes with sports credentials.
Jabra Elite Sport delivers the most comprehensive range of audio training tools to ensure you have the perfect training companion with you, whatever your fitness level or work-out regime preference. This includes an advanced personalised fitness analysis thanks to an in-ear heart rate monitor with 90%+ accuracy and an integrated app that offers automatic fitness testing (VO2 Max measurement), race-time predictor and recovery advisor. The Jabra Sport Life app delivers these updates via real-time in-ear coaching to ensure an uninterrupted workout.
The personalised VO2 Max data generated by Jabra Elite Sport, and captured by the app, allows you to track your fitness development over time. It uses intelligent in-ear coaching to provide real-time feedback based on your heart rate and fitness level. When you’ve finished your workout, the Jabra Sport Life app provides a range of information to help you improve your fitness level in the future, including distance covered, pace, route, calories burnt and training effect.
As a training partner, Jabra Elite Sport has the added assurance of a three year extended warranty against sweat, and being IP67 rated is tested to work for at least 30 minutes whilst submerged in up to one metre of water.
Medical grade credentials
Pioneers in sound, from sports earbuds to hearing aids, Jabra (as part of the GN Group) has used its unique understanding of high-quality sound in the development of Jabra Elite Sport. Created in collaboration with engineers from ReSound, a specialist in medical grade sound solutions and a world leader in Smart Hearing Aids, Jabra Elite Sport draws on more than 145 years of experience in hearing innovation and fit.
