 The App

TERRAILLON, Wellness Coach app

This has downloads of 1,160 with a rating of 2 out of 5. Unfortunately, I have a passion for ideas of this technology but would have to agree with the app rating which I have tried on a few phones. The help files within the app are written in French. The App requires access to you phone.  (what are app designers thinking of?)

INTELLIGENT WEIGHING allows you to Weigh the food, select it in the database and the application indicates the nutritional composition.

.

MONITORING OF NUTRITIONAL VALUES

The NutriTab allows long-term tracking of your energy intake: calories and the five main Recommended Daily Intake (RDI) – Proteins, carbohydrates, fats, fiber and sodium. The

scan function feature allows you to scan barcodes of more than 40 000 foods and display the energy values of those meals

The company was founded in France in 1946, By the 1970s, Terraillon S.A. made up over 80% of the bathroom and kitchen scales market. The product comes with a 2 years warranty against material and manufacturing defects. This is great to see the manufactures confident in the products to give a 2-year warranty.

The Terraillon range does not stop at the Kitchen scales with options for Wristband activity trackers, Body fat analyser, Sleep sensors, Arm blood pressure monitor, these can be connected via the App and do a vintage Tradition 500. Other options –http://www.terraillon.com/en/taxonomy/term/2

Review – Terraillon R-Link body composition scales. #Fitness #Health

The humble scales has come along way in the last few years offering more than just your body weight..

I am not one to step on a scales often and not because of the fear of what I will read but because I dont have one nor would I bother looking for one to keep in check what the figures might read overtime, I usually let my belt do that or which clothes either stay up or cant fit no more.

The Terraillon R-Link has much more to offer than the conventional scales but first check out the unboxing below…

R-Link is the thinnest scale in the world with only 12,5 mm height. It analyses your weight, BMI and your body composition (body fat and water, muscle and bone masses). It connects to the free Wellness Coach app where you can monitor your progress and get free advice to reach your goals.

Yeah it comes with an app just like kettles and lights do in your home today,If that bothers you get use to the idea of apps and connected tech in your home because its here to stay. The app is available on both Android and iOS platforms..

The Build Quality..

Well its built like a tank..Putting it mildly and it also weighs like one too,its by no means light comapred to a standard scales but you are getting one that will last quite some time so its worth its weight in this respect. Its got an LCD display up top with three virtual keys to toy with being “Set -Up and Down”

Its a toe and fingerprint magnet so socks on never mind underneath you wont see nor will anyone else unless they fancy a nosey of the underside which is home to the pairing button and power supply. Its also sat on 4 feet raised with rubber caps to keep it steady in one place. It blends in nicely on a tiled or wodden floor too given its neutral colour..

To use the scales is simple once set up via the app and this measures more than your weight and more than one person can use it, Up to 8 people can use this so it ideal for any household if they are bothered about themeselves. To wake it up you just stand on it,nothing to press or buttons to fiddle with I like that it reminds me of mobile phones with tap to wake.. Pairing it a first was a bit of a nightmare but it was sorted eventually and you have to sign up to the app which collects data,This might be a put off for some. Aside your weight it also measures body mass index (BMI) bone, muscle, fat and water. Its more than enough for most.. You can also set targets and get activity reports.

The Scales is really aimed at those whom want to keep a check on more than their weight and would most likely suit athletes or fitness finatics for example of for those who want some kind of information delivered to them daily but not the entire offerings here, For me my interest was weight and this was what I kept my eye on over the last few weeks on and off between holidays and trips I had to do.For the money you are getting a solid piece of equipment with an easy to read display but would be an overkill for the average householder in one sense but a really good looking and info based machine nonetheless.

Features Rundown

Review – Cubetto,Coding for kids without screens with a wooden robot. #Cubetto #Coding

Cubetto is a friendly wooden robot designed to teach kids from the age of 3 to code and its quite simple even for a novice or a newcomer to coding something which I wish I took up but hey things happen, As of now we have many kids coding getting younger each year and this toy robot could be the begining for your child..

UNBOXING CUBETTO

Cubetto is simple and it comes packed equally the same as seen above there is nothing much technical to it apart from having to insert some batteries which are AAA. Cubetto comes with 4 main parts, A map which you lay down on your floor, you will need space because its big,A board which is your control panel so to speak,Blocks which are your codes which in turn talk to the final piece which is the wodden robot which is simplistic and friendly looking. Presentation of the package is also worth noting as seen in the unboxing above.

Cubetto is the friendly wooden robot that will teach your child the basics of computer programming through adventure and hands on play. Montessori approved, LOGO Turtle inspired.

To make the robot move you need to pair up both first which is simple you will require 6 AAA batteries 3 for the robot and 3 for the control board, As you place in the pieces of code you will then see a code form and there will be a blue light indicator on each block and this is how it works througout. I would first suggest iron the creases out of the maps as they are heavy material and the robot can get suck or confused on the folds.

On the control panel you have a queue a function line and a big Blue button which is simply GO. This is the button which talks to the robot. There is 4 coloured blocks Green,Red,Yellow and Blue. Green moves the robot forward,Red is right Yellow is left and Blue is a fucnction excecution.

Cubetto is a great toy and educational and it also gives you valauble time with your kids to sit down and have some fun and there is many maps to discover and you can download them too, personally I am not into coding but I actually enjoyed trying this out and I myslef learned something new and had fun and it was good to see how quick it was for my child to pick up and demo what the robot can do, Like I said there is many more maps to discover,This however came short of some codes which where sent out if you backed this on kickstarter which could add some more fun to the game and it limits the fucntionality of movement even my child asked why cant it move some directions, perhaps they might include these later on but its not really an issue but something I need to point out.

If you are worried about this being a challenge fear not, there is great instructions and Cubetto have great tutorial videos online too so you can check them out should you run into difficulty. After that just sit back learn and enjoy the journey the friendly little robot will take you on with your kids. As much as I like my tech but not one to code this for me was great personally to learn something new be it small and it was good to watch my child learn and then being able to show me a thing or two.

Review – Playertek – For the footballers who want real stats. #Football #PLAYERTEK

Darryl Henderson reviews the PLAYERTEK. The package of the Playertek GPS is very small and slick looking. It’s a really good look for this device. It fits all the equipment in perfectly and even has a special part for the GPS pod itself which I found was a nice touch.

UNBOXING PLAYERTEK

I found the PlayerTek GPS very useful for tracking my results while playing football, I used it for two training sessions one short shape session which didn’t involve much running or high intense sprinting and another session which was pretty much a very tough end of week session. The GPS pod tracks loads of cool figures like your speed, distance covered and even displays a heat map on the football pitch which you were playing on. I feel that this device suits my game better for training rather than games as it pushes me harder on the training ground and challenges me to do better than previous training.

I found the app for Playtek very good and it tracked some very interesting parts of my game like speed and even showed a heat map which are displayed excellently on the app. The app itself has lots of different settings which I found useful as I changed the speed into Mph. I found the app fairly easy to use and didn’t struggle trying to figure out how to use it.

The only downfall I have towards the whole package was that it lacked any real instructions which made it hard for me to understand what I was doing when I first used it. I will share more in the coming weeks but out now due to injury but so far i like what I see and can recommend this for anyone who wants real stats that help in many ways and can push you to better yourself.

Review – The VEATIVE all in one VR Headset. #VR #teaching #education #science

I am a big fan of VR and also AR but over the last few months the VR industry has seemed to take a bit of a nosedive when it comes to VR content which is sad to see as it was gaining traction but hopefully that will change in the coming months.

Over the last year or so there has been several MEDICAL VR apps to hit the stores which are an excellent idea and ideal for those whom are in the industry we have special access to some apps and are looking at some as we speak and this idea from Veative Labs is one such great idea when it comes to education and hopefully we will see more like it in the coming months.

Check out what the headset looks like in our unboxing

This may look like your typical headset but its far from it,the personal model will be available in September this year and you will be in for a treat.. The headset has all the features you would expect to find on the more advanced ones such as gear VR but there is much more going on inside and more features on the outside plus you get a remote to navigate and participate in programmes in the apps provided.

Another difference here NO DEVICE is required which is good in one respect but you do need to charge the headset itself, after a few minutes setting this up via the instructions it will look like your standard layout but here is where the magic begins going beyond, You can ad your own apps from the playstore for instance and the experience here does not drop compared to other VR head offerings,in fact it might be even a bit better, There is a lot of technology going on under the hood and if remove the plate on front like you would on headsets you would understand a bit more.

So whay exactly is this then..

Veative – is an educational VR company and they launched their all-in-one VR solution at the show. It comes complete with a wireless controller and a built-in mobile device – eliminating the need for a separate mobile phone or need to purchase a controller.

They’ve adapted VR technology and designed it specifically for use in educational and training environments. Its modules are interactive, easy to use, and enable student-centered learning, that reinforces any science or mathematics curriculum. They launched 300 modules across Biology, Maths and Physics for secondary school.

In the app you have multiple choices on what subject you want to take a task on You will be presented with a Dashboard from here you can then go forward a choose subjects..

You can join the lab, and self-study in here you can then select subjects available see images below for what is optional for the user right now. Below are some examples as this is still not publicly available yet and will be soon..

On these exercises you will be given training prior and objectives and so on then you can begin your task and really its about memory but also the workings of such, especially the heart and then you get to start the heart up, Medical would have been my favourite choices here being honest but its worth a look at all the options at hand, With the skeleton for example you are given a task to find the coffin, find the bones missing and place them in the coffin in their respective places and there is some false bones thrown in for good measure, Also which makes in interesting is that you a timed on all occasions so you can keep at it and repeat tasks should you fail and watch yourself improve over time.

Veative launches pioneering all-in-one virtual reality headset for education

Veative’s innovative VR Learn solution comes pre-loaded with high-quality content that aligns to curriculums and slots neatly into the classroom – supporting teachers in delivering more engaging and effective lessons. With 300 modules launching at Bett today, Veative will develop 1000 by mid-2017 and 1500 by the end of the year. Currently available in biology, chemistry, physics and maths, all modules can be easily adapted for any language and any curriculum. They include 3D models, 360-degree videos, tasks, exercises, simulations and other interactive activities, all complemented by smart analytics and classroom management apps for teachers.

A global expert at fusing technology with education for immersive, interactive learning, Veative has adapted VR technology and designed it for use specifically in educational and training environments. The wireless controller completes the package and enables true interactivity with VR objects and subjects – bringing learning to life for today’s digital-savvy students.

“There’s been an explosion in VR for the events and gaming sectors and we fully expect 2017 to be the year that VR really takes hold in education,” predicts Ankur Aggarwal, CEO of Veative. “But VR in education needs to go beyond the current basic virtual tours. Our Veative Learn VR headset, loaded with our quality content, is interactive, immersive and engaging – making it extremely effective in enhancing the teaching experience and bringing learning to life.”

Having spent some time with this and not as much as I would like to due to workload right now this certainly is one fantastic idea and really gets you stuck in and involved, try teaching this in a classroom and heads would stray but with this headset on ALL STUDENTS would be locked in and no distraction and being physically involved in each subject with interactive scenes you will pick up and learn faster and much more than in an open space its a really great idea and I cant wait to see what has to come in the future and anyone with kids who are tech savy,(they do not have to be either) should look at this and so should all schools because you will soon see results via this form.

Review – The Garmin 65W Dashcam. #Garmin #dashcams #motoring

I have said it before and will say it again everyone should have a dashcam,In fact they should be a standard in every car and car manufacturers should be lining up dashcam makers to have theirs installed but no. However insurance costs here are rediculous and even recently the AA say the cost has come down, I would love to see where they got that form.

Anyway rant over I am going to talk about the Garmin 65W dashcam which is small and compact and offers lots of features and for its size I was impressed and its capabilities and its also a solid piece too which would withstand a few drops should you be moving from vehicle to vehicle which I would do..

First up check out the unboxing video below

The build quality here is great to begin with and its a robust unit, On the front we have a small screen which is 2.0 inches which is the smallest screen we have tested but its clear and readable which is important and notifications are loud and visible, more on that later. On the righ side we have 4 circular buttons which are easy to navigate, even when not looking. On the display beside the sceen these buttons are indexed with power on/off/back which is the top one and then consecutively UP-DOWN and take shot with the bottom key, this autosaves to your SD card.

On the left we have just our power source which is via micro USB which is more current than some of the dashcams we have used which use the older version. On top we have our window mount which is manoverable via a ball joint, this is also removeable which is handy so it can be placed basically in any position that suits you best and in a simple manner. On the bottom you will find your mico sd slot,sd card slot, ours came with an 8GB card, and speaker.

On the front you will find the 180 degree lens and thats it so overall its a simple set up and simple to use piece of equipment which we will demo in the video below.

ALERTS.. These work well quite well infact and there is settings here to pick from to to either silence these alerts or trun them off altogehter, It would be best to leave these alerts on especailly with speed limits and detection points unless you know your travel diary well, See the images below about the type of alerts you get which are uselfull and could save you points on your licence.

Also note you will get alerts prior speed zones. You can also use the voice activation to take videos and photos which is excellent and saves you from distraction although you can use the bottom button as mentioned to save an image should you wish but you should get use to the idea of voice controls..

Video samples on the Garmin 65W Dashcam

Overall this is really a nice dashcam and for its size its got plenty on board to keep the driver in check and always that added safety or having videos backed up should an incident arise, these would be vital in case of an accident as you cant say the camera lies….

Key specs on board.

  • 180-degree field of view captures more of the environment, including cross traffic
  • High-quality 2.1 megapixel camera with 1080p video capture; works even in low-light conditions
  • Forward collision and lane departure warnings plus alerts for nearby red light cameras and speed cameras
  • Includes lifetime safety camera updates
  • GPS-enabled with automatic incident detection (G-sensor) saves video footage on impact to show when and where events happened
  • Voice command allows you to start/stop audio recording, take a still picture or start/stop the Travelapse video capture feature

We check out @FiremoleLTD EVERY HOUSE needs this. #Irish #StartUp #Tech #Firemole

Firemole is a new Irish product that could potentially save your life and every house should have at least one of these and for the tech fan like myself could do with a few when there is multiple devices running all day.

Over the last few years we have seen that there is more and more fires in homes and in almost all cases its due to faulty or shit third part chargers that can be bought anywhere and to save a few quid many people just buy these because they are in your face everywhere these days and cost buttons compared to OEM or proprietary charging equipment which mostly we can thank Apple for. These cheap chargers in my eyes are a no go in my house and will always remain that way but I have a few samples here of cheap crap and you can see even by the build quality and you can factor in the cost which in turn leaves you at risk of a hazard at some stage. In short DONT BUY CHEAP SHIT!!!

Firemole is an innovative little gadget that attaches to your plug or charge pack and monitors the temperature and once it hits 54 degrees the alarm will sound which in turn you then get off your ass and plug out the nominated device or devices and check things out. The alarm is loud enough and can be heard even if in another room so its not an issue nor does it required a standalone app to run either which is quite good, perhaps round two from firemole could indeed have this for if you are not at home and have things left on….

UNBOXNG,WALKTHROUGH AND PUTTING FIREMOLE TO THE TEST

Firemole is a simple unit with just a battery to power it which lasts around 18 months and easily replaceable with a battery similar to what you find in a car alarm fob and the batteries are widely available. There is a test button up top and a rest button it can get any simpler really and anyone can use it with ease, get set up and just leave it there to do its job. I have tried and tested one and it just works,it’s a simple gadget that could someday save your life and those around you. Thats all there is too it check out their campaign below and get this into your home today for peace of mind.

About Firemole.

Firemole is a young company that is developing a range of innovative fire safety devices that can protect people and their property. There has been huge growth in the electronic and electrical markets over the last number of years, but there has not been the proportional growth in safety devices to protect people from faulty, ageing or counterfeit equipment.

Firemole monitors the electronic and electrical equipment that people use every day. We are using unique, stylish, patent-pending designs so that Firemole is a product that people want to use.

Firemole is focusing on fire prevention over fire detection and our R&D team is working closely with research centres to reduce the number of injuries and fires worldwide which are caused by faulty electrical and electronic equipment.

Firemole aims to begin trading in August 2017 in Ireland and the UK with the intention of having international distributors in place by 2018.

Review – The 1More Triple Driver Over Ear Headphones – #headphones #tech #review

I am a huge fan of headphones and now sport a pretty nice collection and it will continue to grow with more on the way, However I like something different, something that others dont have or that there is not a huge amount of people wearing them, I am not the type to join in the gang and get something because others have it and everyone else is wearing them. This set of headphones fits that bill perfectly and pretty much for the rest its good all round. Check out the unboxing first to see some more..

First of all the build quality here is excellent and to top it off they look completely different to what is considered an industry standard. The design to looks, the cans themselves even contain glass,or plastic underneath the outer cover piece and the colour..

These have a machined metal finish in Black and Gold and in the hand they feel solid, even the cable supplied is not cheap standard and again has the same finish to it too, Ports where the cable slots into again something different with sunked ports rather than the standard which also gives the jack more stability and making it more secure on both sides.

The headband itself is comfortable with leather padding top and bottom with a gold trim trying to imitate the genuine metal parts but its just a coloured leather (protein skin (As they call it) but compliments the headset well and having said that the flexibility on the band is also good and seems robust too but overall its comfortable even for long time usage so this is important.

The cans themselves are really nice, They are solid and look great in the Black and Gold and really robust and how they connect to the headband too is also really nice the whole setup complements each other well. The cups are clearly marked Left and Right and have no controls at all, this is a wired headset which is still a thing and I like it like that too although I do like my wireless headphones its nice to step back a bit and just plug and go,this is the thing here,There is no fumbling around for buttons or switches nor do you have to charge them either….

The joints on the headphones from band to cups is also really solid and not made with cheap plastic, this is where many headphones fail with a similar design but not these and I feel they will get great life out of them,The padding on the cups too is really soft and feel really nice on the ears even with long hours of use they just settle nicely on the ears and the padding is really soft to touch and speaking of comfort they dont clamp onto your head when you put them on you just feel comfort and sound dying from the outside. There is good movement at all angles on the cups with plenty of room to move any direction to suit everyones head,to look a them and how they are constructed you would not think they budge at all but they do and incorporate the requirements here.

The sound quality is great not that I am a qualified audiophile I have tested more than enough to state whats sounds good and what is crap basically,These are good with Piezo Ceramic Driver technology, the H1707 has a high frequency extension that reaches to 40kHz for high resolution files. The volume could have been a bit higher for my liking but it could be down to my device I am using right now or just me being me and as many know I like it loud but in all fairness they ar eloud enough and in a quite environment you will be pleased.

Overall I was happy with these and the presentation of the package is also really professional which I like to see you get nice extras in the box and overall you get a premium product even though they are a wired headset, Would I like to see them wireless? Well no, they look good as they are and stand out in the crowd. The only one small annoyance I had was when the metal clashes but its a small trade off to pay for a good headset all round.
