Many common woodwork tools such as protractors, measuring tapes, spirit levels, rulers and plumb bobs are now incorporated into very convenient apps, meaning that you can lighten the load of your toolbox, if you even need to take one at all depending on what you can do on your phone. There’s also some great apps featuring pallet ideas from which you could derive splendid inspiration.
Alan Crowe owner of Crowe Sawmills, a timber merchant and fencing specialist based in Ireland has created this infographic for you to check out..
One to look for given the quiet time with VR of late, this is quite good and for those who are into all things space and with the talk of travelling to Mars sometime in the future it will give you an insight. The app is quite large so ensure you use your Wi-Fi to download. Lockheed also have an app they launched in April 2016 called Explore Mars and just like that app this one is well presented and looks great to and again a really nice app to have stored on your device. I have tried the app out and it really is nice and if you are into something like this its a must have and its free to download on both Android and iOS right now. You can use any compatible Head Mounted or Google Cardboard headset then hop out of the capsule and go on a journey and collect items that have to be returned
FEATURES:
– Walk the surface of Mars and explore the landing sites for InSight, Viking and Curiosity
– Experience dust storms at the Northern Crater
– Observe InSight and Viking as they gather information about Mars
– Visit one of the famous Viking landers that landed more than 40 years ago
– Follow Curiosity as it navigates the red surface collecting samples
With over 20 years experience in the transport industry and mobile coms I’ve seen changes and we’re not done yet. Online shopping has boomed over the last few years and will continue to do so but this comes with problems especially with clothes. Why you ask? There is several reasons such as size and the colour settings on your PC/Laptop which can give you a false impression of the actual colour of the item itself.
I have been caught out with this myself with phone cases strangely enough and I am to only blame myself and the saying is true its better to see in the hand than via your screen and many a time I have dissed something I did see on-screen until I held it personally so nobody is exempt from this behaviour and perhaps its a thought you might want to take heed of before jumping onto your PC/LAPTOP before all these annual sales come knocking on the doors.. but lets be honest we cant resist a good deal and personally I shop more so online for personal use but not for clothes,Its the one thing I like to do a phsyically go into a store, see, feel and try on..
Now we are in an era where some companies allow FREE RETURNS using certain vendors to do so this app works in a similar way as reverse logistics can be a bit of a pain in the ass in general for some and turn out to be more hassle than its worth but this is what you signed up for when you shop online particularly from the UK and another bode for Irish shoppers is that many companies will not ship to Ireland which today by default I still find unbelievable but there is ways around this again by using other methods like Address Pal and Parcel Motel to give two examples of popular options here in Ireland.
The biggest problem with online returns is clothing and its for size and colour, yes we do have genuine faulty goods across the board too but I can categorically tell you one of the main issues is clothing, nothing else comes near it when it comes to returns. For the reviews so far on the app I think it will be more hassle than its worth in the long run unless they are prepared to keep at it,the app has been updated today so time will tell just how convenient the app/service is itself or if it’s a inconvenience to the company in the long run.. You can also avail of a drop off point to a local post office..
How does ReturnPal work? its an extension of return my shopping
A. Address Collection – A Postal Operative will collect the package from the postal address provided
B. Post Office drop off – You simply bring the item to the Post Office and present the 2D barcode code generated in the app to the Post Office clerk when dropping off their package.
Then all you need to do is select the retailer you wish to return the item to from the drop down retailer list, or manually input their details.
Within the app you then need to provide payment (if applicable)
A. by using a Credit or Debit card, or
B. through a PayPal account
Features.
There’s a whole range of innovative features for you discover:
• 2D barcode: No printed labels required! Use a 2D barcode for all returns.
• Notifications: Get track and trace alerts on your delivery.
• Transactions: Displays all your transactions (current and past) in one place.
• Settings: Need help? You’ll find Settings, FAQs, T&C and the Contact Us section.

Magikbee, the Portugal-based edtech startup, has released kiddZtube, a video-quiz app that makes YouTube content educational and completely safe for preschoolers. The app offers a wide range of popular videos, all selected by a group of real-life teachers who, using the kiddZtube technology, add questions to each video that teach children spelling, colours, emotions, directions, and more – all by asking kids about what they are watching. It is available worldwide now on the App Store for iPhone and iPad and on Amazon for Android.
We are testing out the Android version at the moment and it seems pretty good and its safe,on starting up the app the parent will need to fill in some particulars and can check out some settings to get going. Ideal for kids not accidently strolling onto things they are better off not seeing.
See the full press release below…
The app was developed in response to both kids’ love for YouTube videos and parents’ concerns over the quality of time spent in front of a screen. As kids watch videos on kiddZtube, questions – which are asked aloud – appear and are answered with a row of four coloured stars combined with emojis, making the experience interactive and visually appealing to the youngest boys and girls.
Because all of the content is chosen and curated by teachers, kiddZtube is completely safe for kids to use. Parents can also track their child’s progress and set time limits on use of the app, giving them full control over its usage.
kiddZtube Lite is available for free with access to 20 videos with quizzes. Meanwhile, the full version of the kiddZtube app costs €5.99 and offers the full experience with more than 1,000 videos and 7,000 quizzes to view from your device. You can get in touch for a promo code that will give free access to the full version.
kiddZtube is easy to navigate and designed to appeal to children. As a child watches a video, for example about autumn apple picking, the quiz question appears: what colour are the apples? The options to respond appear inside four stars, coloured blue, yellow, red or green. To respond, a child just has to select the star with the correct answer. Kids will instantly know if the answer is correct or should try again. It’s a fun and engaging way to learn.
Hugo Filipe Ribeiro, magikbee Co-Founder & CEO, said: “We wanted to develop something positive, safe and at the same time engaging and fun for kids.”
Some parents may currently be familiar with YouTube Kids, where preschool content is freely available. The big difference is the ability of kiddZtube to transform screen time into an active learning experience. Moreover, YouTube Kids promotes passive screen time and sometimes very young children can get dragged to inappropriate contact that makes it past YouTube’s filters. That’s not possible with kiddZtube.

The fact is, most of us live in ‘standby mode’ most of the time. The most powerful mechanism is literally right beneath our noses waiting to be explored, yet we rarely give it more than a passing thought.
Breath Guru is the perfect app for both beginners and experienced practitioners.

Built to improve driver safety and speed awareness, it introduces the technology available in high-spec cars to all vehicle models. In addition to being a fully functioning video recorder, Navmii’s is the first free app with Advanced Driver Assistance Software (ADAS) that:
Provides potential collision alerts
Reads speed limit road signs – reminding drivers to the speed limit of each road they travel on
Navmii AI Dashcam not only records a car journey, securely storing it on a smartphone, it will alert users of potential hazards such as collision warnings when a driver approaches other cars too quickly. The app also uses artificial intelligence (AI) to ‘read’ road side speed signs and alert the driver if they are travelling too fast.
Users can choose the length of recordings and set a limit on how much memory the Dashcam will use on a phone or SD card. All recordings can be permanently saved to ensure drivers have a high-quality record of any incidents or crashes.
Peter Atalla, CEO of Navmii, comments: “Driver assistance products are increasingly being built in to cars, but we have incorporated them into a free app that makes it simpler and cheaper for drivers to remain safe and record their journeys.”
“Navmii AI Dashcam offers users a completely free experience without advertisements. Our app offers the functionality of a high end dashcam usually costing several hundred pounds, demonstrating our continued commitment to offering free apps to drivers that help them travel safely,” notes Atalla.

Furniture giant Ikea have launced an app which will allows you to place furniture in your home via your smartphone or tablet. This is pretty cool and most likely will be adopted by other manufacturers or other retail outlets in the coming months ahead, This takes the stress out of pondering over items for your house and you can check out what they look like before you take a trip to a store. There is a problem though, It is only for iOS 11 and us Irish will get to try the app..
2000 products will be available at launch which is a decent portfolio of goods they have to offer.
“IKEA Place makes it easier to make buying decisions in your own place, to get inspired and try many different products, styles and colors in real-life settings with a swipe of your finger. Augmented reality and virtual reality will be a total game changer for retail in the same way as the internet. Only this time, much faster,” says Michael Valdsgaard, Leader Digital Transformation at Inter IKEA Systems.
How to use IKEA Place:
Make sure you have upgraded your device to iOS 11.
Download the IKEA Place app for free from the Apple App Store.

Browse the list of products available in the app.

Move and place the product into the space, it is as simple as that!
