@CarePlusIreland launch new app and have over 40 stores. #CarePlus #App #Pharmacy

Technology is everywhere and it can be a nuisance for some and helpful for others and when it comes to apps we have no shortage of them and today we get to see a new app which is from CarePlus Pharmacy group. Over the last few years we have seen technology creep in everywhere even in our local pharmacy with the likes of self service photo booths for one which allows users to transfer files via bluetooth or sd card to a machine and have them printed a few minutes later and not only that we have seen an increase of pharmacies introducing apps to make life easier for people which is a good thing.

An app to make use for your eir.ie webtext allowance, send webtexts easily & quickly. #IrishDevs #Apps

Amedeo, is an independent app developer and has been publishing apps on the Play Store since 2014. He currently is in the 3rd year of his Bachelor’s in Engineering of Computing Systems, Amedeo also work part-time for a software company in Dublin, so he gets the chance to challenge himself and perfect his skills. Mobile software development is something he has always been into and that taught himself to do so in his free time; more recently he became increasingly interested in Artificial Intelligence and Computer Vision.
Amadeo is the developer of eir.ie Webtext, An unofficial Android app to send webtexts easily and conveniently from your device. The key principle is speed and reliability, the official My Eir app is slow and requires signing-in every single time you wish to use it which can be frustrating and discourages users from using their webtext allowance.
Many plans – with particular reference to ex Meteor ones – don’t offer texts+data, so you end up paying for the SMSs you send.
This particular app is out of necessity, there used to be a couple of apps which did the same thing, but they all stopped working after the switchover from Meteor to Eir, so I decided to create his own version.
His app has been downloaded more than 900 times and holds a 4.7/5 average rating; it will shortly be reaching the 1k downloads mark, which is impressive considering it is less than 3 months old.

Features:

• Fast and Easy to use

• Automatic contact lookup

• Support for old ex-Meteor accounts

• Support for new eir.ie accounts

• Keeps track of sent messages

• Remaining allowance

• Support for mixed (eir+meteor) accounts

• Backup your messages to Google Drive

Speech Central – An App to browse the internet on the go with your headphones.#Apps

Tech is proving more popular day by day and now specifically with digitial assistants and after seeing a slew of new products at CES this year they are now getting embedded into many products be it Google or Alexa for example they can make things that be easier for us but this in turn does make us more lazy rather than typing in words with keys be it on the laptop or phone but who am I to say that.I am a fan but not bought into it fully as yet and currently working on turning my home into a full smart equiped environment, More on that another day.. There is this new app called Speech Central we are here to talk about today though so check it out..

Your time is valuable. Don’t spend it in front of the screen addicted to the web. With Speech Central you can take the web on the go.

Listen to the headlines from your favorite sites and select their linked articles to be read by using only the headphones or Bluetooth hands-free. For the first time feel the freedom without the need to prepare your text to speech session in advance.

Listening to the news and web articles on the go will save you the time in front of the screen at home. But the saving is double – screen is addictive and while you read you’ll probably waste your time doing useless things on the net. So one hour a day saved for you is certain for most of the users.

The app is tested to be accessible by visually impaired users. It has many features specifically tailored to users with disabilities like support for DAISY books, dyslexia friendly font, keyboard shortcuts for the most of commands available in the app and on the iPhone it can be controlled with headphone or Bluetooth hands-free buttons and functions of those buttons can be customized. Combined with the interactive web feature available in the app the latter may make the web much easier to access on the mobile device for a person with eyesight or related disability.

Ivan Icin explains to me why he created this app..

The work on the app started back in 2014. As I was reading a lot on the internet and I thought that I could save a lot of time by fulfilling that activity on the go (and also save myself from addictive browsing on the screen), I’ve decided to make the app for that. At that point it was a fairly simple app but it had necessary convenience that were not available in other apps. Over the time it has turned into one of the most complex text-to-speech apps, available on all platforms with some unique features.

You can download this app from the following stores below… Or check out his site here http://labsii.com/products/speech-central/

These sites ask for plenty of information to be submitted, but if you’re intent on finding ‘the one’, you’ll happily take the time to go through the rigorous setup process.

Irish Entrepreneurs Partner with Global Brands to Launch App that Rewards You for Waking Up

Two young Irish entrepreneurs have just released an alarm clock app that gives you brand discounts and rewards for waking up. FirstUp was featured back in MAY this year

The app, called FirstUp, has partnership deals with Benefit Makeup, Unilever, Maxol, Electric Ireland and Ambr Eyewear, with rewards ranging from free coffee to beauty treatments for using the FirstUp alarm.

FirstUp was co-founded by Ruaidhri Finnegan and Dan Moriarty (28) pictured above.

Over 11,000 Irish people registered for the official launch after a trial version of the app was released with Pieta House for their annual Darkness into Light event last May, making it one of the most anticipated Irish apps of the year.

Ruaidhri Finnegan said: “For most people, waking up early isn’t  optional, and getting out of your warm bed can be tough. We wanted to build an alarm clock app that looks and sounds great, while giving people a reward incentive to help them have the best and most productive start to the day.”

Dan Moriarty said: “We’re trying to develop an alarm clock that can actively aid our users in having a positive morning; whether that be through the sense of accomplishment in earning a reward, reading the morning news through FirstUp or just not having to listen to that same harsh annoying alarm tone again!”

Head of Marketing for Benefit Cosmetics, Lou Bennett, said:

“FirstUp is a unique and innovative way for us to reward our Benefit customers. We’re delighted to be working with the FirstUp team, and to see how we can make mornings better for the busy, modern girl.”

Head of Marketing for Maxol, Caroline Burton commented:

“In these cold and dark winter months, we wanted to show our appreciation for all our Maxol customers by making their wake up routine that little bit easier. FirstUp is an exciting project, and we look forward to seeing how we can help our customers have a great and energising start to the day.”

FirstUp is available to download from the Google and App store now.

Irish #mytaxi drivers can avoid traffic congestion with new Google Maps navigation feature

Irish mytaxi drivers will now be able to avoid congestion and traffic jams more effectively with the introduction of mytaxi Navigation, built with Google Maps in the mytaxi Driver app.

From 12th December, Europe’s biggest taxi app is integrating Google Maps into its existing system, making mytaxi one of the first service providers in the world to go down this route with Google.

With the new release, Irish drivers will have an improved all-in-one package with supporting technical features that allows them to see the current traffic situation directly in the mytaxi app.

“Our aim in integrating Google Maps is to improve the user-experience and to make using mytaxi even more service-oriented and more intuitive for our drivers.  The passengers benefit from the update too as traffic jams and hold-ups can specifically be avoided at the beginning of the trip, without the driver first having to waste time searching for alternative routes in separate systems,“ said mytaxi’s chief product officer Johannes Mewes.

In addition to trips being allocated more appropriately due to more precise geolocation, mytaxi Navigation means the driver can now see the quickest and most direct route to the customer on the offer screen.  When the driver accepts the booking, they are directed to the destination by a blue line and are given precise details of the journey time – and a voice function and a general overview with a practical zoom are included too.

The mytaxi Driver App update with mytaxi Navigation is now available for all iOS and Android devices. If you have not downloaded it yet hit the store icons below to do so.

mytaxi is committed to supporting its drivers and increasing the size of its fleet to meet surging customer demand in Ireland. Over 12,000 drivers have been active on the mytaxi and Hailo apps since launch with over 700 of these drivers joining since September this year. In November 2017, despite customer demand being up more than 35% year over year – mytaxi improved their service levels nationwide.

Last month it announced a total of €1 million in incentives to the first 500 drivers who pass the NTA test needed to enter the taxi sector and drive for mytaxi.  As part of this initiative, drivers also receive free training for the SPSV test using the new mytaxi Manual, with the platform already helping drivers to pass the test.

#Work is a messaging app with a little extra,it helps you and your people get stuff done.

If you need an app to get things done without any hassle like notes, tasks or chat there is many apps out there that provide this today but this app is a new Irish made app that combines several things we do on a daily basis into one simple to use app which is now on Android and iOS in beta so your thoughts and feedback are welcome, This is a new app in town called WORK..

Anton Mc Carthy from WORK tells us what its all about, its simple really and no fuss..
Have you ever found yourself using WhatsApp for work? We have, and it seems we’re not alone! That’s why we thought, what if you could turn a messaging app into a productivity app?
It’s really simple – just 3 basic features for getting stuff done on the fly:
Chat: Just like a regular messaging app.
To-Dos: Need something done? Assign a task to the group, or yourself!
Notes: Notes are great, and in Work they’re just a tap away – share a list of suppliers, venue ideas for the Christmas party,  who owes money for the stag – even your own private Notes on who you’re chatting with! (Hush now!)
And that’s it – this is project management without the bells and whistles, and because it’s in a messaging app even your granny could use it.
Work is in beta mode and we welcome all feedback! We look forward to bringing you new features and updates as we roll out the app!

PayPal hackathon helps Irish charities get with the programme. #PayPal #Charity #App

This event brought together 30 PayPal employees to create and develop digital resources and systems for Irish charities over a 24-hour period. There were a number of charities that benefited from digital solutions. One of the most innovative was an app developed for suicide and self-harm charity, Pieta House.

The app streamlines the registration and payment system for Pieta House’s annual fundraiser, Darkness Into Light. It will save the charity 5,000 volunteer hours and eliminate the handling of over €1.5m in cash.

Press Release.

PayPal today announces the success of this year’s Opportunity Hack, its charity hackathon held in Ireland. The event, which took place at the Castleknock Hotel in Dublin, brought together 30 PayPal teammates to create and develop digital resources and systems for Irish charities over a 24-hour period.

Led by Jonathan Davies, Manager of Small Business Integrations and Optimisations at PayPal, the teammates were drawn from various disciplines including coding, software development, customer support, risk and compliance. They were tasked with working with the charities to develop solutions for their most pressing digital needs.

Pictured (L-R) at PayPals Opportunity Hack are Guy Thompson Fingal Chamber president & GM Castleknock Hotel; Alison Pryce, PayPal; Kristina Fernandes, PayPal; Cian Delaney, PayPal; Francesca Placido, PayPal; and Anthony Cooney, CEO, Fingal Chamber.

A judging panel – which consisted of various members of the PayPal team including Maeve Dorman, Vice President of Merchant Operations for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and Anthony Rafferty, Director of Merchant Services, as well as Guy Thompson, General Manager of the Castleknock Hotel and President of Fingal Dublin Chamber of Commerce – had the difficult task of choosing the best projects.

The team behind Chifundo, a charity dedicated to the education of some of the most underprivileged children in the villages of Zomba in Malawi, claimed the number one spot. The PayPal techies helped to create an online shop for the organisation to enable it to sell Malawi crafts brought back to Ireland by volunteers, the proceeds of which will be donated directly to the school. They also made it user-friendly so that Chifundo can update it easily.

Second place went to Pieta House which helps those in suicidal distress or engaging in self-harm. It was provided with an app allowing community centres to streamline the registration and payment system for its Darkness Into Light event, thus saving the charity 5,000 volunteer hours, allowing it to gather information on participants and eliminating the handling of over €1.5m in cash.

Junior Achievement Ireland, an organisation that encourages and supports young people to remain in education, and Outreach Moldova, which is dedicated to protecting the rights of vulnerable children in the Republic of Moldova, took joint third. Junior Achievement Ireland collaborated with PayPal to develop an integrated CRM system to digitise materials used in the classroom. Outreach Moldova’s collaboration resulted in a new online ticketing service to make it easier for people to purchase tickets for its dinner and lunch events.

Speaking about the hackathon, Maeve Dorman said: “At PayPal, we are committed to giving back to the local community where we do business. It’s been fantastic to see our team joining forces with local charities to tackle their digital challenges, and come up with solutions that can make a tangible difference to their work.

Maeve Dorman, Vice President of Merchant Operations EMEA, PayPal

“It is a tremendous event for all involved. Not only do the charities benefit but PayPal teammates get a great sense of achievement out of applying their expertise to new challenges. Now in its second year, the Opportunity Hack 2.0 has made a significant impact already and helps to address important issues such as social inclusion, education and wellness.”

Kieran Brady, Director of Funding and Advocacy, Pieta House, said: “As our flagship funding event, Darkness Into Light is the single biggest occasion that allows us to keep our doors open and continue to provide our life-saving service free of charge to people all over Ireland. Over the years, the event has grown from strength to strength, but with that, so have its needs, along with the challenges that come with managing such a large event.

“The app created for us at PayPal’s Opportunity Hack 2.0 streamlines the registration and payment processes, saving us countless hours, and protects both staff and volunteers by reducing cash handling. It will also help us adhere to tightening data protection legislation and maintain transparency, which is so important to us in remaining accountable to the many people who support us in doing our work. We are extremely grateful to the PayPal team for lending us their time and expertise for this project.”

Pictured (L-R) at PayPals Opportunity Hack are Tim O’Leary, PayPal; Darren Corley, PayPal; Slawek Smiechowski, PayPal; and Guy Thompson Fingal Chamber president & GM Castleknock Hotel.

Guy Thompson said: “Castleknock Hotel was honoured to be the partner hotel for PayPal’s Opportunity Hack 2.0 and the staff were delighted to host another hugely successful event. As President of the Fingal Dublin Chamber of Commerce, we strongly encourage CSR initiatives amongst our members and PayPal is leading the way, providing much needed expertise, support, enthusiasm and a genuine passion for helping the community.”

DropToU is the “People Powered Delivery Network” #Transport #Courier #App

The courier industry today is a real cut throat industry and volume is a key player in a company’s survival then we also have specialist services which commits itself to specialist or high value goods and we also have cold-chain mainly in the pharma industry.

But getting a job done on time is another factor and often costly too and again distance comes into play if not going through an already established firm which there is plenty to choose from today and with the increasing amount of e-commerce packages being delivered vs the typical high street delivery, companies with timed deliveries are under more pressure than ever and add in the seasonal sales which are about to arrive soon it mean more stress. FOR EVERYONE.

However their attack on other companies doesnt bode well nor is this SITUATION  or this SITUATION wholly true, the lanscape has changed in this buisness and using tweets like this with try get some attention is wrong. Many companies now have a leave safe policy once its agreed with the customer and a photo will be taken to show where the package has been left, this has been a common theme on their twitter and facebook feeds all eloquently placed in the same porch. Not wise to attack others we can easily identify who has the contracts from the pictures and we also know they have changed hands several times and in this industry will continue to do so.

DropToU is the “People Powered Delivery Network” is a new player to the already crowded market which could help solve some issues like B2B or B2C via people power. These are here to offer services when non are available or outside standard hours but we also now see an increase in companies offering Saturday Deliveries and this will soon change to a 7 Day a week industry due to high levels of eCommerce and also demands from suppliers.

Regular Package requests cost Senders €12.30 to send. Senders also have the option to nominate the amount they are willing to pay to get an ‘Urgent’ package delivered. This amount is between €30-€300.

See how it works HERE and how you can get invovled to be either a sender or a courier. This could be a good idea going forward having been in the industry over 20 years a people powered network could very well be a good solution and people will pay good money to have urgent packages moved, Again its a competitive market and watching how this company grows will be interesting. Check out their website HERE and download the apps below.
