SpeedGeo, a company that monitors the quality of internet connections, has published its latest ranking of internet speeds in Ireland, covering the past twelve months (from 1 July 2025 to 30 June 2026). The data confirm a balance of power on the market that has held steady for some time – the undisputed number one among fixed broadband providers remains Virgin Media with an average download speed of 300 Mbps.
The ranking is based on the results of tests carried out by users of the V-Speed app, which powers the SpeedGeo platform (available, among others, as a web app for browsers and an Android app). In total, 75,883 measurements collected on the networks of fixed-line operators, as well as mobile operators working through WiFi routers (Fixed Wireless), were analysed. The ranking includes only providers whose share of the total test volume is at least 3 percent.
During the period under review, the average broadband internet speed in Ireland reached 181.5 Mbps – 4.1% more than a quarter earlier, when the figure stood at 174.3 Mbps. At the top of the ranking, as ever, is Virgin Media (300.0 Mbps), ahead of Eir (210.5 Mbps) and Sky (195.8 Mbps). Virgin Media also leads in upload speed, recording 65.1 Mbps and clearly outpacing its rivals. As for latency, the average across the entire Irish broadband market is around 30 ms, while the top three operators perform considerably better, achieving results in the range of 19-23 ms.
