Coroflo, the pioneering Irish medical technology company founded in 2017, has officially announced the launch of its revolutionary breastfeeding monitor, Coro, in Ireland.
The high-potential startup—backed by Enterprise Ireland and the European Commission’s European Innovation Council (EIC)—is open for pre-orders at www.coroflo.com ahead of its highly anticipated retail rollout on 13th July.
Coro will be stocked in leading Irish retail chains, including Tony Kealys baby stores and McCauley Pharmacy.
The Irish commercial launch follows an extraordinary sweep on the global tech stage at CES in Las Vegas. Coroflo made international headlines by winning a series of prestigious accolades, including CNET’s Best of CES Parent Tech, the Techlicious Spotlight Award, Gadgety’s Best of Showstoppers, the Lara Lewington Best Health Tech Award, and The Tech Podcast Network Best of CES, alongside a coveted Red Dot Award for Innovation last summer.
Solving a Global Data Gap in Maternal Health
Ireland has some of the lowest breastfeeding rates globally, with a 63% initiation rate in hospitals dropping sharply to just 1–6% of mothers exclusively breastfeeding at six months. Historically, a mother’s concern over low milk supply —the leading global reason for early cessation —was divided by experts into “real” supply issues (historically cited as affecting less than 5% of women) and “perceived” low supply, often attributed to maternal anxiety.
However, recent peer-reviewed clinical research is shifting this paradigm. Studies indicate that true low supply affects between 10% to 15%, and in some cohorts as high as 29% of mothers, driven by modern endocrine, hormonal, environmental factors, and maternal age. Traditionally supply concerns, real or perceived, are managed by monitoring baby’s weight and number of nappies, now Coroflo have created a new real tool for mother’s accurate real time data when needed.
“Our firm position is that Coro is not intended for the entire breastfeeding population,” says Rosanne Longmore, CEO of Coroflo. “Rather, our goal is to offer precise and dependable data to those who specifically need it. We maintain that providing objective, evidence-based information to women who desire it is empowering, and such crucial knowledge should not be restricted based on the outdated assumption that data induces maternal stress.”
The Founders’ Story
Coroflo was born out of a real-world and commonly experienced postpartum dilemma. When co-founder, a medical doctor gave birth to her son, his small birth weight made tracking milk intake critically important. The only options available were stressful and inaccurate weekly pre-and-post-feed weigh-ins.
Frustrated by the lack of immediate data, Helen and her husband, Jamie, an engineer with prior experience in flow monitoring, realised the technology could be miniaturised and put into a frequently used nipple shield. Together with co-founder Rosanne Longmore, who brought a background in finance , they developed Coro: a patented, advanced micro-flow meter embedded within a slimline silicone nipple shield. The device transmits real-time, precise volume data to a free smartphone app without altering the natural breastfeeding experience.
Beyond consumer retail, Coroflo is experiencing massive inbound interest from the medical community. Coro is actively filling a historical data gap in lactation science, paving the way for groundbreaking international breastfeeding research.
