The concept of self-driving cars has been mooted for quite some time and has been a feature of sci-fi TV shows or cartoons speculatively casting an eye to the future. In 2017, autonomous cars have become a distinct possibility, and while a fully autonomous vehicle is still a way off, we can now invest in cars which will let us kick back for most of a journey.
We’re also entering the area of holographic windscreens which can display key data that we would previously have needed to glance down at the dashboard to see. These advances are remarkable when you think that it wasn’t so long ago since power steering and remote locking were perceived as fantastic innovations.
Neil Tohill – Director of Southside Motor Factors in Dublin has sent us another visual asset for our readers to checkout..
The Nokia 6 has been a success thus far and in Ireland we can only purchase it off one network which is Three, I have said this for years about exclusives and the ramifications of this can be seen with what happened Lumia devices before they died altogether it is a bad move but that is how it is for now and the same applies to the Nokia 5 whilst all networks sell the Nokia 3.
Potetional buyers have been looking for the Nokia 6 in stores and online and there is none to be seen and this has also been confirmed to me by soucres and it all ads up as to what Three have stated today on Twitter, Three claim it is a stock issue which would make sense but figures of sales are unknown yet and also their inventory count on this device.
A spokesperson for Three Ireland has told us this morning..
The Nokia 6 is currently out of stock, but will be for sale again in the coming weeks
Hi Andrew, stock of this phone is not due to be replenished until October due to a shortage. Keep an eye on Three.ie 👍 Joolz
Stores have also no stock avaialble and Three chat confirmed to me today its sold out online and they have no idea when it will return to their website but advise to keep checking for updates. So if you are looking to purchase the Nokia 6 from Three you will be waiting or else you will have to import or check online sellers here in Ireland until they get replenished. This could be seen as positive news in one sense for Nokia and HMDGlobal but figures back up the usual “sold out” term which we have yet to see.
If you are in the market for a new activity tracker or if it is your first one perhaps this might tickle your fancy, Nokia are now offering a discount on their Nokia Steel watch including models with the extra wristband so you can enjoy a fresh new look no matter what.. The original Steel price was €129.95 and is now reduced to €103.26
Check out our review of the Steel HERE and you can see the full details over HERE on the deals now available…
Features include..
Activity tracking: steps, distance, swim (water resistant to 5 ATM), running and calories burned.
– Sleep monitoring: sleep cycle analysis (light and deep sleep) and silent alarm.
– Automatic synchronization: Follow your data on your smartphone.
If you are the owner of any of the new Android from Nokia you can now also insure your device too which is pretty neat. Phone insurance though for me in the past has been more hassle than its worth and I am careful with my devices and to date have only managed to drop two devices over the years and I go through alot of phones.
The process is simple and we also note the Nokia 8 is listed but not yer available here unfortunalty. Devices that can be insured are the 3,5 6 and 8 so if you have any of these you are good to go..
The cost will of course vary by device and you can pick either a 1 year or 2 year plan whichever suits your pocket.. For example the Nokia 6 will have a cost of €27.95 for 1 year or €54.95 for 2 years.
If you own the Nokia 3 the cost is €21.45 and €42.95, The Nokia 5 will cost you €24.95 and €48.95 and finally the Nokia 8 will cost you €59.95 and €114.95. You can see the price go higher as the device spec goes up and this is obviously due to parts the screen been most likely the culprit cost burden here.. You will be insured via Allianz
Furniture giant Ikea have launced an app which will allows you to place furniture in your home via your smartphone or tablet. This is pretty cool and most likely will be adopted by other manufacturers or other retail outlets in the coming months ahead, This takes the stress out of pondering over items for your house and you can check out what they look like before you take a trip to a store. There is a problem though, It is only for iOS 11 and us Irish will get to try the app..
2000 products will be available at launch which is a decent portfolio of goods they have to offer.
“IKEA Place makes it easier to make buying decisions in your own place, to get inspired and try many different products, styles and colors in real-life settings with a swipe of your finger. Augmented reality and virtual reality will be a total game changer for retail in the same way as the internet. Only this time, much faster,” says Michael Valdsgaard, Leader Digital Transformation at Inter IKEA Systems.
How to use IKEA Place:
Make sure you have upgraded your device to iOS 11.
Download the IKEA Place app for free from the Apple App Store.
Scan the floor in your place.
Browse the list of products available in the app.
Select a product that you want to place.
Move and place the product into the space, it is as simple as that!

By providing software donations, Clanwilliam Health’s contribution allows TCD’s School of Pharmacy students to gain practical experience by working in a real-life pharmacy setting, and the opportunity to acquire a practical knowledge of the reality of dispensing, drug interactions and pharmacy management practices.
Eileen Byrne, Managing Director, Clanwilliam Health said: “We are delighted to be continuing our support for Trinity College Dublin’s School of Pharmacy and are proud to have such a longstanding relationship with them. Our partnership accounts for the provision of software, drug information databases and accompanying training materials, as well as full access to our support and engineering departments. We are privileged to have this facility on campus thanks to Clanwilliam Health.”

The App
TERRAILLON, Wellness Coach app
This has downloads of 1,160 with a rating of 2 out of 5. Unfortunately, I have a passion for ideas of this technology but would have to agree with the app rating which I have tried on a few phones. The help files within the app are written in French. The App requires access to you phone. (what are app designers thinking of?)
INTELLIGENT WEIGHING allows you toWeigh the food, select it in the database and the application indicates the nutritional composition.

The humble scales has come along way in the last few years offering more than just your body weight..
I am not one to step on a scales often and not because of the fear of what I will read but because I dont have one nor would I bother looking for one to keep in check what the figures might read overtime, I usually let my belt do that or which clothes either stay up or cant fit no more.
The Terraillon R-Link has much more to offer than the conventional scales but first check out the unboxing below…
R-Link is the thinnest scale in the world with only 12,5 mm height. It analyses your weight, BMI and your body composition (body fat and water, muscle and bone masses). It connects to the free Wellness Coach app where you can monitor your progress and get free advice to reach your goals.
Yeah it comes with an app just like kettles and lights do in your home today,If that bothers you get use to the idea of apps and connected tech in your home because its here to stay. The app is available on both Android and iOS platforms..
The Build Quality..
Well its built like a tank..Putting it mildly and it also weighs like one too,its by no means light comapred to a standard scales but you are getting one that will last quite some time so its worth its weight in this respect. Its got an LCD display up top with three virtual keys to toy with being “Set -Up and Down”
Its a toe and fingerprint magnet so socks on never mind underneath you wont see nor will anyone else unless they fancy a nosey of the underside which is home to the pairing button and power supply. Its also sat on 4 feet raised with rubber caps to keep it steady in one place. It blends in nicely on a tiled or wodden floor too given its neutral colour..
To use the scales is simple once set up via the app and this measures more than your weight and more than one person can use it, Up to 8 people can use this so it ideal for any household if they are bothered about themeselves. To wake it up you just stand on it,nothing to press or buttons to fiddle with I like that it reminds me of mobile phones with tap to wake.. Pairing it a first was a bit of a nightmare but it was sorted eventually and you have to sign up to the app which collects data,This might be a put off for some. Aside your weight it also measures body mass index (BMI) bone, muscle, fat and water. Its more than enough for most.. You can also set targets and get activity reports.
The Scales is really aimed at those whom want to keep a check on more than their weight and would most likely suit athletes or fitness finatics for example of for those who want some kind of information delivered to them daily but not the entire offerings here, For me my interest was weight and this was what I kept my eye on over the last few weeks on and off between holidays and trips I had to do.For the money you are getting a solid piece of equipment with an easy to read display but would be an overkill for the average householder in one sense but a really good looking and info based machine nonetheless.
