Red Bull Doodle Art World Finals take place in Amsterdam this weekend

The Red Bull Doodle Art World Finals take place in Amsterdam this weekend, with Dublin-based artist Vivianne Carcereri set to represent Ireland at the global competition, featuring over sixty of the fastest-rising talents from across the world.

The Italian-born artist has made Ireland her home since moving here six years ago. Carcereri, who lived in Cork for four years before moving to Dublin two years ago, will compete against the world’s best, following her victory at the Irish National Finals which took place in Tara Street Buildings last month. A panel of experts selected Carcereri’s work based on the criteria of creativity, artistic skill and the way the doodle expresses a love for life.

Red Bull Doodle Art encourages creatives to put pencil to paper, let their minds wander and get doodling. The World Finals take place from Thursday May 25th to Sunday May 28th, with all national finalists globally brought together for a three-day immersive experience in Amsterdam. Their completed artwork will be displayed in NFT format in a public gallery, where a judging panel including Canadian artist Burnt Toast (Scott Martin) and British artist Mr Doodle (Sam Cox) will select the global winner.

Speaking ahead of the World Final, Carcereri said: “I’m delighted to represent a beautiful country which has welcomed me with open arms. My art is inspired by what I like most in life, or whatever makes me feel good or smile. I’m looking forward to testing myself and learning from some of the most exciting talent in the art industry this weekend.”

Carcereri’s work will feature in a one-of-a-kind NFT collaboration between Burnt Toast and the other national final winners. The ‘Burnt Toast x Red Bull Doodle Art’ collection, which combines the artistic vision of the world-renowned creator of ‘Doodles’ and the 61 national winners, will be made available for an open-edition mint at the Nifty Gateway Marketplace on Friday May 26th at 2PM CET.

  • FUT Esports – TR Qualifier
  • Team BIG – EMEA Qualifier

FUT Esports grabbed their spot during the closed Turkish Qualifiers in August. This year’s EMEA Open Qualifier took place on Sunday and saw German organisation Team BIG emerge victorious. In an incredibly close final, BIG went head to head with KOI, securing the win over the Spanish squad.

Providing insight into the team’s dynamics and expert opinions throughout the tournament, Yinsu Collins is set to return as the host of the invitational alongside commentators; Mitch “Mitchman” McBride, Tom “Tombizz” Bissmire, Ryan “RyanCentral” Horton, Beatriz “kaquka” Alonso and Adam “Dinko” Hawthorne.

Red Bull Home Ground pioneers a pulse-racing Home and Away structure that puts an exciting curveball on the traditional VALORANT format. The two competing teams will select a “home ground” to play on for the open two maps. This structure rewards tactical awareness, map knowledge and wider map usage; if a team wins both opening “home” and “away” matches, they automatically win the tie, while a stalemate will default the tie to the traditional best of format.

Embracing the pulsing atmosphere of Manchester, the Red Bull Home Ground cyberpunk aesthetic sets a futuristic mood for this year’s event. The combination of eight world-class teams, global rivalries, and famous hosts offers the live audience a once-in-a-lifetime experience at Victoria Warehouse. The event will be brought to life for digital audiences across the globe, made available in several languages on Twitch and YouTube.

The Official Paper Plane World Championship is Ready for Takeoff

The world’s largest paper plane championship returns to Ireland. In Red Bull Paper Wings, across three categories, participants must retreat to simplicity without fuel, machines or engines and design a paper plane from a sheet of A4 paper and, dependent on the category, make it fly as farlong, or as artistically as possible, visit RedBullPaperWings.com to learn more and sign up.

Ireland will host three Qualiflyers and a National Final where the Distance and Airtime categories will be judged in person. Participants can alternatively submit an online entry in the Aerobatics category via TikTok. The national winner from each category (including Aerobatics) will be invited to compete at the Red Bull Paper Wings Final in the iconic Hangar-7 in Salzburg, Austria where the 2022 World Champions will be crowned.

Applications are now open with entries accepted across the following three categories;

  • Distance: Simple, whoever throws their paper plane the furthest, wins. At the last World Final in 2019, the USA’s Jake Hardy topped the field with 56.61m.
  • Airtime: Pilots must fold their planes for just the right aerodynamics to achieve the longest flight time. In 2019, Australia’s Cameron Clark snatched victory with 13.33 seconds!
  • Aerobatics: This category is all about sensational aerobatic tricks – in the 2019 finale, Ukraine’s Kateryna Ahafonova scored the only perfect 10 with her creative paper plane performance. Pilots don’t need to show up at a Qualiflyer, instead, they can get creative with their paper planes at home and share their mastery on TikTok using the hashtags #RedBullPaperWings #Ireland and tag @RedBull when submitting their entries. The pilot with the most votes from a national judging panel – which considers the criteria of social engagement, flight performance and creativity of the performance and video – will make it to the World Final.

Applications for Qualiflyer events close 30 minutes before each event start-time, with online Aerobatics applications closing on 22nd April. Qualiflyers will be hosted at the following dates and locations;

  • March 15th: TUD Grangegorman, East Quad (12:30pm – 2:30pm)
  • March 16th: DCU, The Venue, U Building (12:30pm – 2:30pm)
  • March 23rd: IT Carlow, Sports Hall, Barrow Centre (12:30pm – 2:30pm)

TU Dublin students selected to represent Ireland at the Global Innovation final.

Technological University Dublin student innovators Harsh Chandra and Clara Fargas with their career guidance solution CareersXP have been selected to represent Ireland at the 2021 Red Bull Basement Global Final.

In this global program, students are empowered to showcase their innovative ideas, using technology to make tomorrow’s world a better place. Ireland’s winning entry, Harsh and Clara’s online platform CareersXP is a game-changing career guidance solution which aims at giving students more clarity when choosing their college course. Inspired by the issue of college dropout rates and the lack of solutions already available, CareersXP provides hands-on experience through short and simple activities across a range of different courses which aims to provide valuable insight to help students make a better-informed choice.

Computer Science student Harsh commented on the project; We aim to create a platform that helps sixth year students to overcome the fatigue and pressure of choosing a college course and a career. Many college freshers are led to make uninformed decisions which leads to poor performance, stress, and dropouts. With CareersXP we plan to tackle this problem with a practical approach by allowing students to ‘try courses before applying to them’. This creates a unique & personal experience helping them to gain insight and narrow their search to find the right fit for them.”

Harsh and Clara will now receive support and mentorship to further develop their platform ahead of the Global Final in Turkey in December where they, alongside 44 other country finalist teams will pitch to a panel of globally acclaimed thought leaders, entrepreneurs and tech and innovation experts and visionaries.

Business student Clara commented on the Red Bull Basement experience; “It is a huge opportunity to be selected to represent Ireland and TUD at the Red Bull Basement Final and we are so excited to be able to travel to Turkey in December. The mentorship, work-space and support will be a real leg up for the project as we continue work on the prototype ahead of the Final. This is a real game changer for us as students and for our project, we look forward to great things to come.”
