Tech Review – Maidesite T2 Pro Plus standing desk

Over the last Three years or so I have been using several types of set-ups at home for my work and tech reviews, In fact I have two set-ups in at home and it is just as well I do and it is great to have those options with kids so I have a place to work in peace and quiet when required so for me having a set-up I can move to in an instant is important for me to get things done without interrupting my workflow and both set-ups would have similar products at hand and all ready to go so the only thing that needs moving is my phones.

Having a desk is important and space and having tested several options the sit stand desk or a desk that can move up and down is ideal and when it is electric it is even more sweet and less hassle for me and anything else as no movement is required of products and cable management is now embedded in pretty much all these types of offerings.

So the latest one which is now set up is from Maidesite and this is their Electric Standing Desk S2 Pro Plus and it is a superb standing desk and suits all my needs down to a tee. What’s more this one is not as complicated to set up like previous ones or holes need to be drilled into your walls and little tools required, in fact they are all in the box bar a screwdriver to mount the control unit the rest is all allen key screws and the key is provided.

Setting up did not take long either which only took me about 25 mins to get the whole thing set up and running and that was another bonus for me as time matters plus it is fairly simple and not complicated as some can be as mentioned.

The best way top set up is to grab two chairs and lay the table top on it upside down of course take out all the pieces and lay them in order with the screws provided and have it all ready at hand and then follow the instructions on the booklet inside, these may seem complicated for some however with this table no so much. You can see some of this set-up process in the video below anyway and how it all works and get an idea of what it all looks like..

The great thing with this Desk is the ability to move it around plus the controls to raise and lower the table which can cater for adults and kids but for me standing is the better option and healthier but I can also sit down should I want to and my daughter can use it for college and so on and for my main use which is office work and tech reviews it just solves several issues in one place and does it really well and can be used in several ways. I do change my set-ups from time to time and rotate the tech for example and will have an additional new triple length light to clip onto the back of the desk when I use two laptops for example sometimes I just have one on the desk and would be doing videos so there is plenty of space regardless here to do multiple tasks and do them easily with no cables in the way.

The frame itself here what impresses me most too it is solid and sturdy given all the dimensions and weight involved it does not move an inch when working on it either in a sitting or standing position and for me who is one to lean on such the same applies and makes this super robust and can be placed away from a wall or in the center of a room the choice is yours.

The control board actually has a USB port on it too which makes it great for charging my phone for example of any other bits like earbuds and headphones so all I need is at my fingertips in reach and no hassle and all is kept simple and that is how I like it and that is what this table offers, simplicity with all in your reach and the space to do what you need.

Office Factors That Can Negatively Impact Work Productivity & How To Eliminate Them

Office productivity is measured by determining a worker’s effort that they put into their everyday work. For workers who submit their reports late, or are often absent from work, in most cases there are a range of contributing factors within the office hindering their productivity. The importance of office productivity and output from workers is huge for businesses, therefore ensuring workers have high office productivity rates will create a better working environment for all.

Factors that hinder work productivity

How using just one monitor can be time consuming

As many office workers use computers for their everyday tasks, whether this be sending emails or writing reports, the performance of these tasks is often based on how many monitors a worker uses. Although one monitor can achieve all of the tasks a worker wishes to pursue, the effectiveness of the tasks are extensively slowed down. With spending time switching from one software to the next, this can make a simple 10 minute task an unnecessarily longer experience, subsequently having major effects on productivity rates of workers.

Noisy office space becoming a distraction in the office

As offices are getting larger, so are the number of workers in the spaces provided. With more staff members surrounding, the noisiness of offices are bound to be louder, which can become a huge distraction on workers trying to proceed with their working tasks. From workers gossiping, to the loud clicks of keyboards and mouses and workers playing sounds from their monitors, these noises can quickly add up to create a very loud office space. As loud noises are such a distraction, this can hinder workers away from their desks and result in way less work getting done.

The effects of poor office furniture posture

With sitting down at work all day, it is very easy for office workers to adopt poor postures. The types of office furniture workers use can result in major back and body injuries with the strain of sitting there all day. For instance, some workers find themselves sitting on a chair so low that they are beneath their work desk. Due to the discomfort from the poor posture, some workers later develop back pains and are forced to take a sick leave, which only has negative effects on the productivity of their workload, therefore ensuring you sit at your desk correctly is vital for the wellness of your body.

Poor desk lighting becoming a burden in the office

Making sure workers have the most suitable lighting to be able to see their screens and get work done effectively is vital in contributing to the amount of work they get done. As some offices don’t have strong blinds or curtains, in the sunnier months it can be a huge restriction with not being able to see the screen to its fullest potential. On the flip side, some companies have curtains that darken a worker’s office space. If the weather is dull, or darker mornings and nights are on their way, the lack of light bulbs in an office may create too dark of a setting for workers to complete their work efficiently.

Very high or low temperatures having drastic effects on productivity

As workers thrive at their best in an optimal temperature, as soon as this is changed, so do the rates of their productivity. Finding a balance of temperature that satisfies all workers is an important job to ensure work gets done. An article from Open highlighted that 29% of office workers spend up to half an hour each day not working due to an uncomfortable office temperature. Whether the offices are too hot or too cold, this can have huge effects on how much workers can get work done everyday, which can only result in negative impacts on the business itself.

Solutions to the factors affecting productivity

Introducing dual monitor desks

Using more than one monitor can double your chances of productivity. By having two monitors, this gives workers the chance to perform different tasks simultaneously across two screens, resulting in more work getting done at faster rates. When switching to dual monitors for your office work, this means needing more space on your desk to hold all of your important documents and equipment. Many office furniture companies such as Southern Office Furniture offer a range of high-quality dual monitor desks to accommodate both your monitors for increased productivity in offices.

Providing designated rooms for loud spaces

As keeping workers from talking to each other is an unreasonable ask for workers, the rooms you work in are important to consider for working effectively. To reduce noise around your work space, incorporating office cubicles into your office is the perfect way to eliminate noise for concentrated and dedicated workers. There are many benefits to office cubicles, including the extra personal space and fewer distractions. These are a great way to ensure workers are in their own bubble when working without the limitations of noise affecting their work.

Buying ergonomic office furniture to support workers

Buying furniture that will be comfortable for workers to be in all day is one of the main aspects to consider to ensure the contentment of workers. For instance, you wouldn’t purchase a high chair for a short person or buy a low desk for a tall person. Affecting workers’ postures will tire them out and provide them with multiple body aches, therefore slowing their productivity. So purchasing office furniture that is right for you is the key to comfort while working at the office. Excess furniture can always be disposed of with end to end waste management services.

Tech Review – Edifier CC200 headset

With the dawn of working from home a big thing new products are en masse and that is not a bad thing for the consumer when it comes to choice and so on, however there seems to be a push back into the office of late but the products can be used both at home or workplace and this new headset can be used just the same.

This one for me however is different,  I do test mostly headphones and having a full earcup missing is funny. Yes I use headphones or earbuds on calls every day as this is what I do but this product is interesting still and so easy to use yet has plenty of features.

The headset is light so can be worn all day literally and the mic arm can swivel both ways, in other products I did test or try this was an annoyance for me having the arm locked on one side so this is a bonus for those who like or want to have the ability to swaps side, this might seem odd for some but probably those who do not use such products trust me it is nice to be able to swap sides.

This not only works with your PC or laptop this works with your phone, some headsets do not and require a USB A connection again some phones allow you to get around that if they support OTG whereby you would simply add an adapter and off you go but not very convenient in my book. This is a bluetooth option rather than cable so for most would work better I would think although it is another device to charge but it is what it is. You do easily get 2/3 days out of this headset which is great and can be charged overnight of course and does not take long to charge.

The sound is where it rest with most but difficult to call it with one side I did a sound test in the video review below so you can make your own call and in real life use fashion you can hear things going on and get a real life sense or what to expect and it is good, calls are good and clear and it can be used for music which for me is great, not the best in the world for music but it works and there is your controls there too to do what needs doing and you get a busy light too which I like.

For the price in question it is a good headset and be be used not only for your office calls and so on but in a personal capacity.

Jabra launches Engage 55 – portable professional headset for ultimate call security/quality

Jabra, leaders in personal sound and office solutions, has launched the Engage 55, the newest product in Jabra’s Engage series. Engineered to enhance your communications, the latest headset comes with the highest DECT security with military-grade 256-bit encryption and noise cancelling technology. It also has an extensive wireless range, set to enable hybrid call professionals to make calls whenever or wherever they can, taking ‘walk and talk’ to new lengths.

The Jabra Engage 55 is a brand-new DECT wireless professional headset designed for superior conversation quality. It comes with improved noise-cancelling technology and microphone performance, enabling more employees to have meetings in the same space without any interference. The Engage 55 also offers the best level of security of any wireless headset available, which makes it the ideal headset for those working across all industries, remotely or otherwise.

Virtual fatigue

The average UC user is said to spend more time on calls than ever before. Statistics* show that annual Zoom meeting minutes increased by 3,300% in 2020-21 and there was a 645% increase in active MS Teams users within the same time frame. Research** also found that a person’s credibility in virtual calls relies on their audio quality; the poorer the quality, the less credible we consider someone to be. When we experience poor quality audio online, our brain naturally strains to figure out what is being said. If this is done continuously, energy and alertness is drained, which then impacts wellbeing and productivity. Getting the online experience right is therefore extremely important to ensuring employees’ do not suffer from virtual fatigue.

Crystal clear conversations

With virtual meetings becoming the standard for businesses, it’s more crucial than ever for employees to be heard and be able to speak freely with their co-workers or customers without being interrupted or having their voices muffled. The Jabra Engage 55 therefore has a noise cancelling and voice enhancing microphone that removes background sounds whilst keeping your voice crystal clear for more focused conversation experiences.

With employees being in calls for hours every day, it’s more important than ever to protect their hearing. Therefore, the Engage 55 also offers additional hearing protection benefits. Jabra SafeTone 2.0™ provides speech level normalisation, which allows the user to adjust the volume level of incoming calls according to their preferences. The headset also has intelligent acoustic shock protection, which reduces potentially harmful noise levels without affecting the audio quality. As well as this, it has PeakStop at 105 dB, the proactive removal of sudden loud sounds and BalancedVoice™, in which incoming sound is processed to be clearer without increasing the level.

Maximum security

The current trend of remote working makes companies more vulnerable to cyber-attacks. Therefore, security is more important than ever. Cybercrime rises due to eavesdropping and the data breaches this causes, and there is the growing importance of safeguarding client discussions, which often involve sensitive information. The Engage 55 includes additional features that make it the safest professional wireless headset on the market. The connection between the wireless adapter and the headset is certified to the highest DECT Security – Level C – making it ultra-secure. It also has additional FIPS military-grade 256-bit encryption algorithms to effectively prevent eavesdropping on conversations.

For added mobility, the Engage 55 features a long wireless range. With a range of up to 150 meters/490 feet, the Engage 55 gives employees the freedom to move around their home or office work environments without compromising call quality. The headset comes with a link 400 USB DECT adapter that is bigger and able to stay securely in place when plugged in. The adapter is not only more advanced than its counterparts, but designed to last.

The lightweight design of the headset also ensures a personalised fit with adaptable ear cups suited for all-day comfort. There is a choice in wearing styles; with stereo, mono and convertible styles, there is an option for every user. To save any issues with setting up, the headset comes pre-paired out of the box with a visible status light, which indicates to your surrounding if you’re busy and don’t want to be disturbed. The new Engage headset works with all leading Unified Communications and Contact Centre platforms, including MS Teams, Zoom, Cisco, Unify, Amazon Chime, Google Meet, Avaya, Unify and Alcatel Lucent.

“Research clearly shows that security is an increasing factor for businesses when deciding on new call technology. At the same time, safeguarding information exchange should not affect call quality, customer satisfaction, and staff productivity,” said Anders Hvelplund, SVP of Call-Centric BU and Global Services at Jabra. “With the Jabra Engage 55, anyone who engages in back-to-back calls are guaranteed a superior call experience, and those who work remotely will no longer have to be concerned about eavesdropping and therefore data breaches.”

Key features of the Engage 55:

  • Premium open office microphone – Filters out background noise for crystal clear conversations
  • Military grade security – Level C DECT security
  • Up to 150m/490ft connectivity range – 15x larger than the range of any Class 2 Bluetooth device

Tech Review – Digital Life ME1 USB-C omnidirectional mic

With the likes of Zoom and Teams being a popular way to get business done it is a good visual aspect but what about the audio end of things? So for example your PC tablet or phone have fixed mics and let’s be honest not the best audio quality in the world on the receiving end and again if you have a team of people in the room can you hear them all clearly without having the need to raise your voice well that would be a yes, Now we have a clever little gadget that solves this be it for personal or business use and of course if there is several people at the table in your meeting on such calls this changes that void and it is quite good.

Before I go any further it is not a speaker it may look like one but it aint which is a shame it could of been a hybrid product, the unit is well built just to begin with and is solid with some weight in it too with rubber footing underneath and it is a simple plug and play with no software download required to get going, all you need to do is plug it in and change the mic selection on your PC and you are good to go, you have a volume toggle on top and has volume and mute controls on top which are capacitive. And that is all there is to it how much more easier does it get when it comes to tech.

This can also be used for streaming also any calls made on your PC and can reach up to about 3 meters which is plenty for those office meetings. Check out the samples below in the video and see the product itself and hear the difference, we are impressed.

  • Miniature, low-profile design – Ideal for recording meetings, conferences etc.
  • Omni-Directional Pickup Pattern – 16-Bit, 44.1- 48kHz sample rates
  • With Mute & Adjustable Volume Button for Easy Operation
  • With 3.5mm Stereo Audio Jack for Direct Headphone & Speakers.
  • Compatible with Windows 11 & macOS 12
ME1 omnidirectional mic techbuzzireland

Features

1. It has No Speaker = No Echo

Since this boundary microphone does not include a speaker, it is ideal for conferences, gaming, online meetings, Microsoft Teams, and live streaming. In contrast to conventional stereos, it does not produce excessive echoes.

2. USB Omnidirectional Stereo Microphone

The item’s pickup pattern is unidirectional, implying that it can pick up sound from all directions around the item’s circumference. The microphone can record speakers who are within three meters of the microphone.

3. It Has Volume and Mute Controls

You can control the product easier if you use this feature. You will not have to go through the struggle of opening an application on your device and searching for the settings. To quickly modify the level and mute, use this button. Those who participate in online meetings will find this function extremely useful.

4. It has a Wide Brand Compatibility Pool

Tested on two pcs here in the house and a chromebook this worked with no issues at all.

Top 5 Latest Trends In HR

Navigating workplaces amidst the pandemic has become more difficult and unique than ever. COVID-19 has left a lasting impact on almost all aspects of our lives and workplaces have specifically been affected the most when we had to switch to a new mode of working. The backbone of these workplaces and organizations are its employees, the HR department works day and night to ensure that these resourceful employees are on the right track. This is why the human resource department has to keep up with the latest trends in the market so that their employees have a comfortable experince and employee retention increases.

The top 5 essential trends that all HR departments should be following this year are:

1. Virtual Hiring And Onboarding

Ever since work from home has become the new normal the hiring processes had to change too! The conventional interviews, technical tests and onboarding procedures in the office can no longer be continued. The hiring of these new employees when done through virtual interviews has to be followed up in a similar manner. HR can send employee handbooks and other recruitment requirements in a soft copy and over time develop an automated system that sends these essential documents to the new hires. Similarly, a meeting with all the relevant people in the organization may not be possible so video introductions of the management teams and CEO should be recorded as a warm welcome for the employees. This will help mundane working for each new hire and save costs in the longer run!

2. Virtual Learning And Upskilling

Frequent training and workshops may not be possible anymore; however, the development of skills and learning is needed for the growth of your employees and organization. Our favorite HR trend is to appreciate and enroll employees in online courses on websites like course era and Udemy. This is essential for retaining employees and making the people you already have even more useful. Virtual learning can also be done via company-organized video lectures, meetings, and interactive learning activities. This will help keep the employees engaged even as they stay home.

3. Data-Driven Strategies

HR serves as one of the key departments in the day-to-day working of an organization, making hiring and firing decisions, deciding upon employees’ benefits, employee evaluation, and much more. These decisions can change the dynamics of an organization drastically so incorporating data analysis and trends can help make the best decisions. Decisions will now be made based on metrics and analysis from computer software which have almost no errors. Data-driven strategies can be used by HR to retain employees, design training courses or enrollment, determining the risk areas, insight into employee engagement and motivational behaviors. As the organization progresses based on these strategies the chances of success would become greater.

4. Emphasis On Mental Health

This pandemic has been very vicious to all of us. Companies that recognize the kind of peculiar and extremely difficult time we are going through have the best chance at retaining their employees. Everyone is suffering from distinct problems and support from their organization can help them a lot! The role of HR can be as such that they encourage employees to talk about the things affecting them, organize virtual meetups to keep them engaged, show more empathy and allow them to take breaks, and allow long-term work from home. If the organizational budget allows then mental health applications shall be provided to employees for free to talk to professionals and get the help that they need. Most importantly, create a safe and healthy environment where the work-life balance should be prioritized.

5. Promotion Of Inclusion And Diversity

Even though more employees may be working from home and interaction between them may be limited; nonetheless, creating an inclusive and diverse environment is necessary to become a well-respected organization. Issues like wage gaps, bias, race discrimination, and sex discrimination are persistent issues that should be addressed frequently. The company should be proactive in putting out their policies against an equal hiring employer, anti-racism, and discrimination this will help the company gain a better public image and increase their popularity. Moreover, the employees will feel safer expressing their concerns and more people would be encouraged to apply for jobs. Addressing D&I issues as a core policy of HR

The future of work has finally arrived and caught up with all these trends is important for any successful company! If you run your own company or you’re an HR professional join the bandwagon now and start your journey to becoming a successful company.

Kefron survey reveals majority of businesses planning for a partial return to office

Leading Irish document and information management provider, Kefron, today announced the results of its ‘2021 Smarter Office Survey’, revealing how Irish businesses are navigating the challenges of adapting their offices to the realities of the post-COVID environment.

The survey carried out in May of this year revealed that 79% of businesses were planning for only a partial return to the physical office in the recovery phase of the pandemic, with only 2 in 10 businesses currently seeking to fully return to the office in the coming months. When reflecting on the experience of a year of remote working, 38% of business reported seeing no change in productivity, 36% seeing an increase and 26% seeing a decrease.

In light the continuing demand for flexible working arrangements post-COVID, almost three-quarters of respondents agreed that accelerating the move to a smarter office, which enables employees to work from home or in-person, will be crucial to their organisation’s future success.

According to the new survey, the main obstacles facing businesses in reframing the role of the office this year include a continued leadership focus on mitigating the short-term challenges posed by the pandemic (35%), outdated work practices (23%), an absence of a digital strategy (12%) and a lack of in-house skills and expertise” (8%).

In embracing the potential of the smart office, business leaders expressed a range of priorities for the remainder of 2021. 28% of respondents agreed that maintaining a connected workforce will be their top priority, while 26% said that simplifying processes and work practices within the office will be the number one concern. This was followed by driving business efficiencies (13%) and improving productivity (12%).

Paul Kearns, Managing Director of Kefron said: “Our survey findings indicate that the Irish business landscape is going through a major transitional moment, especially with regard to how organisations think about the physical office. With the vast majority of businesses preparing for a partial, rather than full, return to the office, it’s now clear that the office will no longer confined to just four walls. It is becoming a hybrid space where employees can access information from any location securely so they can do their best work. At Kefron, we believe we are seeing the emergence of a smarter office fit for the future.

Business leaders voiced a number of concerns about the future of a smarter office, especially as it relates to employee collaboration and the threat of cyber-attacks. Going forward, the challenge for organisations of all sizes will be to develop robust systems that increase efficiency, reduce environmental damage, meet the needs of employees and customers alike, and protect their data from various existing and future risks. These concerns should be at the heart of each business’s plan as they embrace the smart office in 2021 and beyond.”

Other key findings of the survey include the following:

  • 78% of respondents said they were “more concerned” about the risk of fraud and cyber-crime since embracing remote work arrangements. 12% said they were directly affected by fraud incidents in the last 12 months.
  • 4 in 10 respondents said that their digital documentation and record systems were inadequate at the beginning of the pandemic.
  • 1 in 4 respondents agreed that “access to documents and information” proved to be a challenge during the pandemic.

Review – The cordless MeacoFan 260c Air Circulator. It is cool. #Meaco #Fans

I have always had a fan of some sorts be it in the bedroom, office or sitting room and recently reviewed a smartfan here which has been valuable to me in during the hot weather and this fan fits into the mix quite well too given it is not smart, Yes you have to use a physical button but so what, It solves many problems in one swoop and simple to use..

This has no retail box as it is a review sample but lets check it out. First up it is portable it is light well made and robust and has one switch to control the lot now it does not get much easier than that compared to some fans I have had in the past with buttons all over the place and looking more like a 1980s retro keyboard.

This also comes with a light on the base which circles the whole base and acts as a nice warm reading light which will not disturb anyone in the same room or blind you if working on your laptop at home or if it is beside you on your bedside locker it is ideal. The one button you have does the rest for speed settings and the ring has a light which changes on the speed status which you will see in the video below.

This is portable and cordless and can charge with micro USB and plugged into a mains or even your PC /Laptop and you will get around 10- 14 hours on one charge depending the speed you have it on so for hot nights it will last throughout so it is ideal for those muggy nights. Again this is something that is so portable it can be put anywhere in the home or office and it is quite, One thing people complain about is the noise this is quite enough and will not disturb you..

This has 4 speed settings which is great too and here there is something for all and the cool air flow from it is excellent too it works really we,someone like me would have it on full blast to get the maximum effect but it is powerfull enough to use on half power, I have been using this all over the house and found it very usefull and a must have, There is one caveat even if it is one for those who like and use fans, whilst we do have the option to move the head angle vertically you cant adjust horizontally but hey it is that small and light you just have to turn it on its base as is and same job done. I would like to see one in Black too as white tends to go off colour over time but again this depends on how you treat like any other white products.

Features

  • Small, lightweight cordless fan
  • Quiet and energy-efficient
  • Four fan speeds
  • Runs for 14 hours on a single full charge
  • USB charging allows you to plug into laptop, wall socket or any charging point
  • Simple controls on fan base
  • Cools in temperatures up to 40°C
  • 1.2m USB cable included
