Taking the “Personal Assistant” to a new level, meet Sharp’s RoboHon By @VienteA_George #Robot #PA

Have you seen those futuristic movies where the characters have a small robot for companion? Well Sharp has created a new kind of smartphone with human-like shape and in some curious way similar to a tiny version of the “Bicentennial Man

Meet RoBoHon the “Heart moving phone”

robohon-sharp

Sharp‘s attemp to create something different rests in our “heartless cold” smartphones.

RoBoHon is capable of basic movements such as walking (a few steps), dancing, and waving his hands around to greet you. All that with the intencion of a more “human-like interaction”.

Imagine having Siri, Cortana or Google voice asistants in their own bodies, that what RoBoHon can be, aimed with an always on microphone, he’s ready at any time to help you to do lots of things such a set alarms or place phone calls, also with the integrated speaker you’ll hear your new mails and completely hands free send a response.

Also set Schedule Reminders and ask for directions, pretty much what you’d do with your phone.

Apart from everything that already have, this little fella also acts as “camera man” with sensors within the eyes capable of facial recognition, he takes pictures, record videos and even will tell you if you need to move.

And if this wasn’t enough, it also packs a small projector , so you can watch your photos or videos on any surface.

Thinking of everyday situations, when sometimes voice is not our best option to control this friend, Sharp include a tiny 2 inch QVGA screen on the back where you can type your commands

Take a look at the promo video (is entirely in Japanese, but we get the message)

Powered with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 SoC, with 3G, LTE and WI-Fi capabilities and everything else you’ve seen here, we’re looking at something really interesting.

Unfortunately RoboHon is still in development stage, and will hit Japan shelves as soon as early 2016 but with no information about price or if is going to be available globally.

Will My Phone Work – #Indiegogo Crowd Funding Campaign to add more features #Mobile

You may remember last year we featured a story on a handy tool for mobile users and importers that was called will my phone work,if not here is a reminder of what this does..this also applies to tablets too not just mobile phones..

  • Mobile Device Buyers and Sellers: Looking to buy a phone but have no idea if it’ll work with your carrier? Or, if you’ve ever sold a phone, you know the feeling of having people message you and always ask if it will work with carrier “X”. Just send them our website!
  • Travellers: If you’re travelling abroad with your phone, it’s difficult to know how compatible your phone will be (if at all) with a foreign mobile network. Not anymore with our tool!
  • Technology Enthusiasts: Chances are, people come to you with tech-related questions. Here’s just another resource to point people towards or to use in order to give them a quick answer rather than doing the research yourself.
  • And More: That’s just the tip of the iceberg, I can see this being useful to mobile network carriers, mobile device manufacturers, cellphone stores, research purposes, etc.

Will my phone work

Have you ever asked the question, “Will my mobile phone work with a certain mobile carrier?” Or perhaps you’re traveling to another country and want to make sure your smartphone works there. You could even be selling a cellular phone and need a website to point people to when they ask if the phone works for a certain carrier. WillMyPhoneWork.net can help you find the answer you’re looking for.

Its an easy pain free process to complete which is detailed below…First select a Brand.

You can read on for the full explanation of how it works over HERE its quite a handy tool and you should go check it out if you have not done so already…

Well they are now stepping up the game some more and here is what is the plan is Will My Phone Work has got praised worldwide for its efforts so far….

What features are you looking to add?

There are many features that I’m looking to add. Most of these are features that you, the users, have requested:

Covert the website from the old WordPress platform to ASP.NET in order to support new features and significantly boost performance.

Add Reverse Look-up feature (example: Show me a list of all phones that are compatible with 4G LTE network in Argentina OR Show me a list of all phones that are compatible with Wind Mobile in Canada).

Add an ALL option for Carriers so that you can get look up results from all carriers in a Country rather than searching one-by-one.

Add an ALL option for Sub Models so that you can get look up results from all sub models within a Model rather than searching one-by-one.

Display more clarity into why a phone is not compatible with a mobile network (example: Right now, we just have a red X when a device is not compatible with a network, I want to add a message explaining why it’s not compatible).

Allow users to Share look-up results via email or social media.

Show partial compatibility between a mobile device and carrier network by listing the carrier network bands, along with the device band, so you can visually see if the device is fully compatible.

How can You help?

There are many ways that you can help.

  1. Contribute to the fundraising campaign here: http://igg.me/at/willmyphonework
  2. Share the fundraising campaign to friends and family via Twitter, Facebook, Google+, etc. You can use Indiegogo’s sharing tools which are also located on the same website.

Bad mobile coverage in your area? Report it with #FREQ and build a network #Apps #IrishMobieBiz

Coverage today is a priority with your phone or tablet be it indoors, outdoors or travelling so we need to know where is hot and where is not,for me an app like this is vital not only knowing if bad coverage is on my trip but knowing where it is ,is another story i like to stay in places where i have good coverage especially if im there for a few days and need to work from my laptop, tablet or phone, and i never rely on hotel or free wifi in most cases its poor or restricted.

What is FREQ.

Because it’s all about you, not about general table rankings or general naming and shaming.

We analyse your mobile performance, establish patterns and highlight your problems with operators to help improve your daily network. We  also show the best and the worst parts of company phone networks, indoors and out.

Based in Ireland, our team of engineers, network planners and data scientists have decades of expertise in design, build and operations with operators and network suppliers all over the world.

Its early days, and the feedback is excellent – so download the app. Help build the right-for-you network.

FAQ – FREQ

What are the chances I will get a good connection? Thats how to think of your FREQ score. 0 to 100%. A single number that simplifies a complicated situation. Can your network deliver the response you need in the time you need it? Based on our findings we  score your network, phones, buildings or locations and deliver the forecast you need.

So What?

By knowing your FREQ score, you will have a more accurate reading of your phones actual performance compared to the bar method we all use currently. If you answer yes to any of these questions then you need FREQ:

  • Have you ever had your phone display a five bar reception, but all  you get is one star performance?
  • Do you find it hard to be heard amid all the competing offers….free minutes……unlimited calls….all you can ‘eat’ data and texts?
  • Do you want a voice for what your network should deliver – in the places you spend most of your time?

What do I have to do?

It’s easy and straightforward. Simply download and install the app. The app works in the background measuring when the signals change and reporting the results to our database for analysis. Daily forecasts are available on the site – we will be posting them on the app in a coming release. Right now we are building our results and we need your help!

How much does it cost?

For you, the user, it’s free. If you are in a company and want a detailed analysis of how all the operators are performing in your building, for remote workers or those on the road – contact us.

How does it work?

Whenever coverage fluctuates we record the changes, the technology used and how well the network responds. Based on this we calculate a network score. Based on this score we can rank the network. We call it the FREQ score. We want this to become the standard measure for your network experience, and for how to compare phones, networks and operators.

Are you spying on me?

Never. We do not record your number, your site data or any other personal data. We do not record any information about who you are or what sites you visit.

We  record which network cell sites are use, and the approximate location. If GPS is enabled then the location of the phone will be recorded when the coverage changes. There is absolutely no way to tie this back to a user based on the uploaded information.

We are only interested in signal strength and network quality – we have zero interest in the sites you visit, your calls and your content. They are just not interesting to us –now or ever.

Will it use my battery or data?

We only take readings when the coverage changes, we then analyse and send results so there are no major battery drains, especially as it stays the background. The data traffic is typically less than 100K per day and we e include a ‘wifi only’ option for the fat-free, zero add-on mobile data plan.  GPS should be switched off in order to minimise the battery drain.

Who are you?

We are a group of network experts who have spent the last decade designing and operating mobile networks all over the world. We believe in Total Mobile – streaming, dreaming, buying, selling and living our life online, everywhere, anytime. We love data analytics and cloud computing, and believe that these type of crowd measurements can help everyone build a better mobile environment.

So in a nutshell these guys have it all covered and we wish them the best in the further development and hope to see it on more platforms soon..

High Prices in Ireland for the Nokia Lumia 520

Nokia’s popular handset the lumia 520 has been on sale a while now and proving popular.

With the average cost on pre-pay here in ireland its normally around 109.99 euros.

Argos have released their new catalog, the autumn/winter 2013.

So naturally i checked out the prices and to see whats on offer from the retail giant.

Well to my surprise the Lumia 520 was the at a whopping 194.99 reduced from 229.99.

Both these prices are way above board even though they are sim free models.

Here is the advertisement in the catalog

No shame here stating it was 229 which you could buy the 620 for which is the next model up.

Last year the 620 in argos was a whopping 319.99 again way over the street price.

Ok so here is where i have a valid point.

Sim free = no bloatware.

Buying from a store ok your locked and have a good chance of bloatware.

Buy the phone from a network you can get it unlocked for free with credit spend or meeting your contract terms.

Most operators now have set terms for unlocking some more outrageous than others i might add.

So if you buy it for 109.99 you can get it unlock for free by meeting the terms above OR you can get it done for 25 euros in shop that provides the service, this would void warranty but nobody really takes this on board, unlocking phones here in ireland is a huge business.

So tell us what you think in the poll.
