Review – The Hoover H-Free 800. #Hoover #HFREE800 #Connected #Tech

Doing the hoovering is a chore nobody likes most would admit but with the tech now being used with such products in the home that may fast change, OK it is not a hoover that does the work for you like deebot for example but it makes like easy and kinda fun and if you are on a weight watch plan or counting calories this could be the one to look at even I enjoyed using it over the last few weeks.

This comes packed with accessories and is light and reminds me of a play gun if you will only loaded with more lights and switches and real functionality and for the most part it does a great job and makes life that bit more simple.. I like many have one of the older type hoovers a HETTY which as we know has to be dragged around the place and you are limited by having to plug in to a power socket and keep moving plugs to get jobs done and it is also cumbersome and annoying dragging up and down the stairs, with the H-FREE 800 this all vanishes being wireless and having the ability to carry a bag armed with goods too to get the job done.

The H-FREE 800 however is not a hoover you will get the entire house done in one swoop though due to the battery life which is its only caveat from my testing as it does hoover up the dirt rather well and has an easy empty option which would be a bin in any room of the house, the storage container on the hoover is not huge therefor making it an easy disposal option in any room of the house or even the loo…

The portability factor is what will sell this hoover given it might be a bit top heavy for some, along with the app that defines your usage and calorie loss, you can use this indoors or outdoors be it in your car, shed or external office and not have to worry about wires,Using a hoover like this will change your habit of doing the whole house in one go which is not a bad thing either as you can do a percentage of the work then recharge it and go do something while it is charging so it can split up the cleaning process which for me works better.

THE APP

1 / 7

You can reach high presses, sills window frames curtains, down the backs of radiators wardrobes presses and more with all the accessories that come with it including pet hair removal which is a non issue for me but I found that brush is great on the stairs. The main part of the hoover does a really good job on the tough work say on carpets etc and I have noticed less work is required to get the job done lets say over the HETTY you have a turbo button too which does drain your battery quicker and again the average of 35 mins is brought down some more using the turbo constantly but the turbo is turbo and gets the job done.

As a male I do hoover a bit but since this came into the house I have enjoyed doing it and poor HETTY has been left aside and the smiley face ain’t so smiley now to a hoover many people adore but technology is moving on and I keep with the times and using this H-FREE 800 makes life easier and give me stats on the go which is something myself and any others would be interested in, the hoover is not heavy nor is the accessories all piled into the bag and just makes life even easier and even the men will enjoy the ugly task of doing the hoovering. Portability wins here in getting the job done and much more.. The only caveats is the battery having said tha tthat is down to how you hoover your home again its portable and can be brought outside, the continuous switch which you keep hitting accidently and it could be made shorter and that was with myself and others here in the house having the same report.

Hoover sent us this to review and are seeing this the same time as you,no compensation was paid nor did they get a preview.

Neos launches smart leak and smart motion kits. #Neos #NeosSmartHome #NeosSmartKit

New research released today has revealed one in three Brits (21.5 million people) have experienced a leak in the last year. With the average leak costing £632.80, this has cost the nation an eye-watering £13.6 billion. In the longer term, 44.77 million UK residents have experienced a leak in their current or past home.

The research, conducted by Neos is aiming to raise awareness of the damage that leaks from taps and pipes can cause. Many people don’t take precautions against this threat – only one in ten Brits have equipped a leak detector and 11% don’t have insurance – because it is a hidden problem that often only comes to light when it’s too late and the damage is done.

NEOS BOOST

London is the UK’s leak capital, with a shocking 81% of people experiencing a leak in their current or previous home. However, Scots are the most likely to have experienced a leak in the last year (38%). Homes in the South-West of the country are the most leak free, with nearly half (41%) of residents saying they’ve never experienced a leak from a pipe or tap.

Interestingly, the data also revealed people living in council housing are less likely to experience a leak – with 52% of homeowners and 55% of private renters experiencing a leak in their property, in contrast to just 42% of those living in a council house.

Including costs covered by individual’s insurers or landlords, leak repair forced Brits to cough up an average of £632.80 per incident, although the research found that it can cost individuals up to £12,000 to repair the damage. Leak victims in Northern Ireland tend to pay the most (£724.40) to fix the damage and those in the East Midlands are most likely to nab a bargain, only paying £424.70 on average. As well, while 30% of those who had experienced a damaging leak had the cost completely covered by their insurance, shockingly 24% of people ended up paying for all of the repairs themselves because they didn’t tell their insurer, perhaps because they didn’t understand their policy or feared being penalised.

Matt Poll, co-founder and CEO, Neos says, “Leaks in the home are an incident that many of us don’t think about until they happen. The data has proven, however, that they actually affect most of us. Try asking your friends and family about their experiences – you’ll be surprised at how many have suffered a damaging leak, and at a significant cost to the person if they don’t have insurance.”

He continued, “While these findings are worrying, I hope they empower people to seek out options to actively protect their homes from leak damage. Installing leak sensors means that even if a single drop of water is where it shouldn’t be, you will know straight away and be able to act before real damage is caused. There are also other simple steps you can take to protect your home, like switching off your water when you’re out for more than a day or not running water consuming devices, like washing machines and dishwashers, when you’re not home.”

Setup:

The setup is standard in terms of download the ROBUS Connect App, register via text message & email address, note when connecting,  use the only 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network.  To set up the Led strip in the pairing mode, press and hold the reset button for >5 seconds. Alternatively, if the switch is inaccessible, turn on for 10 seconds, turn off – on – off – on – off – on. The luminaire will blink rapidly when in pairing mode.  In the background of the app the IP address, Mac address, time zone, Wi-Fi strength is available for those of a technical nature but not required for most installations.

The Robus GLS Connect smart bulb.

Connect to the Amazon Alexa, (This unit does not need to be connected to a smart home but a great feature when done). Connecting to the Amazon Alexa required the use of an additional app – Smart Life Alexa skill and then via the Skills & Games. Again, the connection is easy when aware to use the Smart Life app.

Conclusion

The quality of the product is excellent with a 3-year warranty and a led life of over 30 thousand hours which alone is impressive. The IP rating may give a false impression as IP20  which is merely a touch by fingers / able to withstand basic touch and rudimentary dust protection, The kit has an excellent  Safety Standards &  list of Approvals which calls out the standard “ Electrical products can cause death or injury, or damage to property” I suspect the 12 Volt, 3 amp would be safer than most Christmas tree lights which can be fitted as DIY easily with minimum electrical knowledge.  Robust ethos is to create enduring products with low energy, low maintenance, which is certainly the case with this product.  My favourite features are not the warranty, led life the colours of the LED. Cost-saving from the lower power drain, but the smart home feature to connect directly to the Amazon Alexa enduring the home is smart. This is a product that once viewed by friends and family is on their wish list, a product that stands out for the right reasons, impressive.

Review – Robus GU10 CONNECT 5W WIFI Tunable White LED Lamp. #Robus #IoT

The Robus GU10 Connect for all intensive purpose is a bulb but brings a new excitements/technology to the bulb ( LED). The Led is smart-enabled that connects to the Robus app for Android and IOS to control the Led, with the smartphone. This can be connected via Amazon Alexa and google home. The Led bulb looks the same as standard GU10 Bulb. The LED via the app allows scenes, controlling on/off switching, dim level and tunable white colour temperature.

Features:

The ROBUS Connected devices provide multiple functionalities which include:

  •         Smart device enabled, works with iOS and Android via the ROBUS CONNECT App
  •         Connects with Amazon Alexa and Google Home via Wi-Fi with no need for a hub
  •         Multiple lamps can be controlled via a single app
  •         Tunable white between 2700-6500K
  •         Lamp Life (Hrs)  25000
  •         Suitable for use in fire-rated downlights
  •         LED replacement for 50W Halogen downlights
  •         30ø beam angle
  •         No UV or infra-red content
  •         Die-cast aluminium, plastic coated housing and polycarbonate lens
  •         GU10 cap type
  •         High quality LED array providing high efficacy of 83-93lm/W
  •         Wide operating ambient temperature range of -20øC to +40øC
  •         On / off switching so lighting can be controlled from anywhere. You can switch off lights left on in another part of the house after going to bed, without getting up
  •         Dimming feature
  •         Tunable White Colour temperature control from warm to daylight white or anywhere in between dependent use of the lit space
  •         Scene setting which allows single or groups of fittings to be set to a specific state. A dining scene (1) whilst eating might need some lights over the table set to a higher level with lighting around the perimeter of the room set to low level
  •         Scheduling allows setting up of “holiday mode” actions where lights can be set to come on or go off at specific times of the day or night

Over several years, I have changed constant blowing of incandescent GU10 bulbs, this was caused by vibrations from the upstairs bedrooms, vibration to the light. The high power rating of the 60W x 6 bulbs burned out the dimmers switch every 8- 12 months, due to the power drain of 6 X 60 = 360 Watt draw of power. The Electricity cost alone on the lights was expensive.

Setup:

The setup is standard in terms of download the ROBUS Connect App, register via text message & email address, note when connecting, use the only 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network.  To set up the GU10

in the pairing mode, press the on and off button three time until the LED flashes, the luminaire will blink rapidly when in pairing mode.  Once set up as the default name of the GU10 Led, can be renamed to your choice of name.  The setup is the same as the Robus Plus Connect¸5M IP20 LED Stripkit.

An LED lamp is expensive:

This is a common comment I get;” I’m not getting an LED bulb as they are expensive and they all do the same job,  “

This is a short comparison done by Techbuzz on the cost of the use of the LED

Comparison incandescent bulb Vs Robus Gu10 Connect The number of hours switched on per day. kWh per day Annual energy consumption (365 days on) kWh used *Utility rate 19.22 c/kWh (Charges Electricity prices per unit (cent per kWh) inc Vat The total cost of electricity for 1 year Cost per year to use the bulb
Incandescent bulb 60 Watt Light Bulb 6 0.36 365 131.4 19.22 €25.26 The Bulb costs €25.26 a year to run
Robus Gu10 Connect 5 Watt LED Bulb with 60W Light Output 6 0.03 365 10.95 19.22 €2.10 The Led   costs €2.10 a year to run

Conclusion:

If you Ignore the green planet, green energy, the idea the Led bulb will last longer  ( Lamp Life  25000 Hrs at equivalent to 50W Halogen downlights ) due to the low heat emission,  the approx. cost  of €25.26 a year to run vs the  Robus GU10 Connect  €2.10  a year to run per year, The technology is cool, power on  / off via a standard switch, or the app, or Voice-controlled via the Alexa app. On the occasions getting into bed, did you switch off the lights, response Hey Alexa – switch off all lights, or when noise is heard downstairs in the middle on the night, the option to turn on 1 light or all light via your phone or via voice commands is genius.

Robus ethos is to create enduring products with low energy, low maintenance, which is certainly the case with their LED range. The Robus GU10 Connect is technology at its best, Cost saving, efficient for the planet, features to allow the LED to change the white colour from warm to daylight with the option to turn on / off via the app or voice control.  A simple product complimented by a Ireland  company using technology at its best and saving money.

CRU first to market with innovative Google Home & Alexa Campaign launch. #CRU #AI #Energy

Recent events have driven unprecedented levels of creativity and agility within the marketing sector, with brand communications teams and agency creatives pivoting rapidly to deliver transformational digital campaigns to address an entirely new set of consumer needs.

As such, CRU (The Commission for Regulation of Utilities) has launched the first ever Google Home and Alexa centred AI campaign in Ireland, aligned to the roll out of its ‘Switch On to Savings, Rights and Safety’ communications campaign.

This unique digital activation involves the development of an app which effectively ‘trains’ smart home devices, namely Google Home and Alexa, to deliver specific responses to any consumer questions on the theme of savings, switching energy suppliers, energy safety and rights, whilst also driving awareness of the role of CRU, its services and guiding consumers to CRU branded information portals such as the CRU website and social media channels.

This ‘smart home conversation skill’ activation is the first of its kind to be developed and rolled out in Ireland by any organisation and was developed by the CRU in close collaboration with PR agency AMPLIFY@Drury Porter Novelli and Granite Digital.

The Commission for the Regulation of Utilities ‘Switch On’ campaign calls on the public to switch on to their rights, safety and savings as an energy consumer, and is fronted by long standing Campaign Ambassador Maia Dunphy. As part of a broader communications campaign, Maia will work closely with several high-profile Irish influencers to engage in an online challenge to see how much money they can save, by following the simple steps suggested by CRU. Over the coming weeks the influencer collaboration campaign will see participants using their smart home devices to put the CRU app to the test, when comparing costs from different Irish energy providers. The influencer campaign will roll out across Instagram, but will be amplified across all channels.

The way people are connecting with businesses through technology is constantly evolving. Surveys from 2019, found that  15% of Irish households now have smart speakers, while over 50% of Irish people are expected to own a smart speaker by 2023.  In further research, ComScore forecasts that over half of all search will be via voice by 2020, showing that voice is poised to become the next big channel for marketers.

With the disruptive effects of the pandemic currently dominating our daily lives CRU was forced to pivot its ‘Switch On’ campaign online. CRU Head of Communications and Public Affairs, Karl Richardson said “The current COVID-19 pandemic has forced many businesses to stop in their tracks, quickly re-strategise, and change the ways in which they operate. Given how consumer behaviours to switching suppliers have been impacted due to Coivd, we are delighted to be the first to introduce this innovative AI technology and reach Irish consumers in a way that compliments their busy on and offline lifestyles and provide them with the information they need to switch on to savings, their right and safety.”

As Ireland’s independent energy and water regulator, the Commission for the Regulation of Utilities (CRU) is central in protecting Irish consumers’ energy savings, rights and safety, and wanted to scale the advice previously provided by its consultants.

Launching this latest digital activation, Nicky Crichton, Brand Communications Lead at AMPLIFY@DruryPN said “Like many brand communications agencies, we’re pushing boundaries and pivoting fast to ensure effective, impactful, digitally led solutions for our clients, and the campaign for CRU is one that we’re particularly excited about given that its first to market, and perfectly timed given the ever increasing use of in-home AI technology”

Ivan Adriel, Creative Strategy Director of Granite added “AI assistants are rapidly taking over consumers’ homes, soon to become the primary channel through which people get information, goods, and services. We were delighted to co-create this solution for CRU, anticipating the future and exploring a striking new opportunity for connection between brand & consumers.”

Switch On To CRU is now available on all Google Home and Amazon Alexa devices in Ireland. To start a conversation simply use the prompts below:

Google: Hey Google, start Switch with CRU

Or

Amazon: Alexa, start Switch on CRU.

Review – Tapo Mini smart Wi-Fi socket – Tapo P100. #TapoP100

This  is a smart plug that allows the option to  Instantly turn connected devices on/off via the Tapo app. This is set up via the phone / Google assistant or Amazon Alexa with No Hub Required.

 Key Features:

  • Remote Control – Instantly turn connected devices on/off wherever you are through the Tapo app
  • Schedule – Pre-set a schedule to automatically manage devices
  • Timer – Create countdown timer lists for connected electronics
  • Voice Control – Manage your smart plug with voice commands via Amazon Alexa or the Google Assistant
  • Away Mode – Simulates someone being at home by automatically turning the connected devices on/off randomly
  • Compact Design – Mini-sized to avoid blocking adjacent sockets
  • Easy Setup and Use – No hub required, set up quickly and manage easily via the free app

Setup:

The setup is made easy by scanning the QR code on the box and following the app instructions.  This app requires you to register and install a new ‘Tapo’ app  which is another App to be used on the phone. The setup for Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant for Voice Control is more challenging  as it requires linking accounts with as limited instruction on either app for the setup. This model is not Kasa compatible as other TP links,

Overall the unit is reasonably priced from a recognised  brand that works as required with a variety of options that can be used for scheduling to turn the socket on or off from  any location. It may be worth getting a set of the same brand of kit to prevent having multiple apps on the phone. This unit worked well without breaking the bank.

Review. GeoSmartPro Airgo Smart Fan.. Tech to keep you cool. #AirGoSmartFan #Tech

I like to see all things new when it comes to tech and this tech does make us even more lazy but you just have to love it. I have always had a fan beside me in my bedroom and have had two general desk fans that have lasted ten years a piece however these are smaller than this one but they served their purpose and now they are gone.

This Fan is smart and simple to use and I like the idea and would like to see smaller versions made too but having said that this is portable and it will certainly cool you down which is what a fan is for but this can be controlled from your mobile phone. The app is simple to use and you dont have to move and especially if your in bed its great. I have mine in the bedroom but it is portable enough to move around the house which is fine…

With new tech ease of use is what is important here and this is simple to use and you can also use voice assistants too to get the job done if you wish which is handy but I prefer to use the app here and see it in action as you will in the video below its really cool..

You have all the options you would find on your typical fan plus it is also quite in comparison to even conventional fans out there. Alongside this you can customise this which again goes beyond your traditional fan and makes life even easier and better. Check out the video for more on this and we go through all the features. My only complaint overall here is that while you can swing it left to right from the app, you have to manually adjust the angle but after that its a product that has delivered and kept simple for anyone to use.

Features.

  • Control: Total control via your GeoSmartPro app from anywhere.
  • App Automation: Automate your fan’s actions and triggers to suit your preferences.
  • Schedule: Set your preferred schedule, to suit your daily routine.
  • Timer: Set your timer for up to 8 hours.
  • Mode: Choose between different airflow modes.

COVID-19 Pandemic Impact: Germ Concern Over Shared Surfaces Will Help Push Near 30% Growth In Smart Home Voice Control

A global emphasis on working from home combined with advice to minimize COVID-19 transmission from shared surfaces even within a home, will help cement the benefits of smart home voice control for millions of consumers. Last year, 141 million voice control smart home device shipped worldwide and, despite the key China market being impacted during the first quarter of 2020, the value of voice control during the pandemic will ensure that this year, voice control device shipments will grow globally by close to 30% over 2019, states global tech market advisory firm, ABI Research.

“A smarter home can be a safer home,” says Jonathan Collins, Research Director at ABI Research. Key among the recommendations regarding COVID-19 protection in the home is to clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces daily in household common areas (e.g., tables, hard-backed chairs, doorknobs, light switches, remotes, handles, desks, toilets, sinks). “Voice has already made significant inroads into the smart home space and voice control can mean avoiding commonly touched surfaces around the home from smartphones, to TV remotes, light switches, thermostats, door handles and more. Voice can also be leveraged for online shopping and information gathering.”

But it is in conjunction with other smart home devices that voice brings greater benefits. Voice can be leveraged to control and monitor smart locks to enable deliveries to be placed in the home or another secure location directly, or monitored securely on the doorstep until the resident can bring them in. Similarly, and smart doorbells/video cameras can also ensure deliveries are received securely without the need for face-to-face interaction or exposure. “Such delivery capabilities are especially valuable for those already in-home quarantine or for those receiving home testing kits,” explains Collins.

“In the long term, voice control will continue be the Trojan horse of smart home adoption. COVID-19 is part of the additional motivation and incentive for voice control in the home that will help drive awareness and adoption for a range of additional smart home devices and applications,” Collins says. Greater emphasis and understanding, and above all, a change of habit and experience in moving away from physical actuation toward using voice in the home will support greater smart home expansion throughout individual homes. A greater emphasis on online shopping and delivery will also drive smart home device adoption to ensure those deliveries are securely delivered.

Precautions for COVID-19 will bring new routines into many millions of people’s daily lives in and around their homes. “Smart home vendors and system providers can certainly emphasize the role of voice and other smart home implementations to improve the day-to-day routines within a home and the ability to minimize contact with shared surfaces, as well as securing and automating home deliveries. There is role for integrating smart home monitoring and remote health monitoring with a range of features, such as collecting personal health data points (temperature, activity, heart rate) alongside environmental data (air quality or occupancy) to help in the wider response and engagement for smart city health management,” Collins recommends.

Sonic is the first ultrasonic smart leak detector developed by Hero Labs. #Sonic #Water #IoT

Every year, Ireland is losing 43% of its drinking water in leaks, while £657million worth of domestic insurance claims in the UK are made to repair and replace possessions and property damaged by water leaks.

Fitted easily, in most cases under the sink, Sonic is the only product in Ireland and the UK to use ultrasonic technology to monitor water use and then spot anything unusual using AI algorithms. It sends an alert in seconds via a mobile app and you can shut the water yourself remotely or Sonic can automatically shut it off using Smart Shield technology, to prevent a water leak damaging possessions and property.

Sonic is the first product to be powered either from batteries or via a connection to the mains. This means there’s no need for complicated wiring, so it can be installed in basements or other difficult to access spaces where there is no WiFi signal, by any plumber or a Hero Labs-recommended installer.

Sonic is currently available for pre-order from the Hero Labs website. In addition to Sonic has been named the best IoT Hardware product for consumers at the 2019 IoT Innovator Awards. This follows Hero Labs being named Tech Starter Winner at the CEDIA Tech Starter FIVE awards and Best New Hardware Product EMEA at the CEDIA awards.
