If you’re an Apple fan and want the latest Iphone, this is probably the best chance to get it!

fo_iphone_6_150530

Since the 30th of May and until 20th of June Best Buy is offering customers the chance to trade-in their old Iphone 5 and get a new Iphone 6 at $1 on a two-year contract (which normally is priced at $200)

This is a great offer having in mind that Apple is only giving you $100 for your old handset.

As a plus to that offer BestBuy is also giving away a $25 My Best Buy® Rewards certificate and a $50 gift card with any Iphone purchase.

The Iphone you’ll through Best Buy is the 16gb version compatible with Verizon or Sprint.

Of course is not as simple as giving your almost dead Iphone to get the new one, the trade-in value can vary depending on the condition of the phone, but even then, it will be a good deal for most people.

You can check the offer HERE for more details

Bogus Apple emails continue to flow be warned. #Apple #Phishing #Scams

With phishing attempts now nearly a daily occurrence for some its likely these guys will catch people out and the fact of the matter is they do so it means we have to more vigilant and just use common sense, given that these are a daily occurrence the thing is they are getting better and redirecting takes you to almost identical pages from the official website..

You can also take note of the URL that will be in your address bar at the top of the page,a similar incident below is one example of a recent phishing attempt. If you get a suspicious email always check the website which most will be familiar with and check the URL better again just delete the email just to be safe.

Here is the latest email we have got from somebody at Apple trying to be nice and protect our privacy.. NOT and of course the said link removed.

Apple Team Inc

Thank you.

You ve taken the added security step and provided a rescue email address. Now all you need to do is verify that it belongs to you.

The rescue email address that you gave us is not verified yet , please take some minutes sign in using your Apple iD and password, then follow the prompts.

The rescue email address is dedicated to your security and allows Customer Support Team to get in touch if any account questions come up, such as the need to reset your password or change your security questions. Twitter – Yes its removing the 140 character limit from Direct Messages. #Twitter #DM #SocialMedia

I have heard the term so many time before that 140 characters is not enough and off we go to another platform to have a waffle, well now that s no longer an issue as Twitter is removing the 140 character limit on Direct Messages,Twitter has been busy of late… So now you can say more and keep it in private too starting in July. Good…

On their dev blog they say.

“We’ve done a lot to improve Direct Messages over the past year and have much more exciting work on the horizon. One change coming in July that we want to make you aware of now (and first!) is the removal of the 140 character limit in Direct Messages. In order to make this change as seamless as possible for you we’ve included some recommendations below to ensure all your applications and services can handle these longer format messages before we flip the switch.”

We recommend taking the following actions in preparation:

  1. Review the new API additions below.
  2. Update your GET requests so you will be able to receive the full length of DM text.
  3. Adjust your app UI to accommodate longer DM text.

You may be wondering what this means for the public side of Twitter. Nothing! Tweets will continue to be the 140 characters they are today.

Twitter now lets you share your hate list. #Twitter #SocialMedia #Blocking

Twitter has been busy of late and now its added a new feature in which you can share the people you don’t like, hate, annoy or trolls/sub-tweeters and this is all well and good because if you block someone they can still see your tweets,so if i have blocked someone for example and i get a re-tweet the blocked person can see it or use another app to see the tweet,so twitter needs to sort the blocking process to begin with and that would be most welcome in my book..

Twitter says in its blog

You can now export and share your block lists with people in your community facing similar issues or import another user’s list into your own account and block multiple accounts all at once, instead of blocking them individually. We also hope these advanced blocking tools will prove useful to the developer community to further improve users’ experience.

To export or import a list of blocked accounts, navigate to your blocked accounts settings on twitter.com. Click on the advanced options drop-down menu and select the action you want to take.To download a list of your blocked accounts, select the export option and confirm the accounts you want to export.

Snapchat Lets You Switch Between Cameras For Videos and adds security #SnapChat #Apps #iOS

The app i hate most has got a new feature for iOS. Snapchat as been around some time now and is mostly popular with kids and teenagers on Android and iOS.Windows phone users might see the app in 2020 as they continuously send law suits to those who make third party apps, they do not see the platform as a viable one and have recently said they might bring it to Windows, that will be the day you see pigs flying outside your window is how many see it..

Anyhow they have now updated the app so that you can chose between front or rear camera on you iphone,so iPhone users can only for now enjoy the new feature ,it probably will not be long before we see this option on Android and go know when that will happen on Windows

What’s New in Version 9.9.0

* Double tap the screen while recording a Snap to switch between the selfie and rear-facing cameras!
* Login Verification — when you log in to Snapchat on a new device, we can send you a SMS code to make sure it’s you! Turn on this feature in Settings.
* Battery filters — add a little something to your Snaps when you’re all juiced up 🙂 or low on battery 🙁

My PicHit Kit. We talk to @pichitme about some of my tech and me. #Tech #PicHitMe

The fabulous guys over at PicHitme asked me some time ago to have a little chat and so we did, so have a look at some of what I spoke about and then head over to their fantastic site to find out some more great stories from a group of fantastic guys…

Describe your Kit.

My Kit varies from day to day due to my interests in life and of course my hobby and passion which is all things tech. When it comes to work I also use in house technology and test upcoming products and I’m involved in several projects outside work which one recently was featured on Irish Television. My Daily kit so to speak would consist of at least two phones if not three, a tablet, a laptop and a portable charger, be it wireless or a plug in.

What is your main camera?

My camera you ask, this is a good one. I have never used a standalone camera and never will because I have been always mobile orientated and have become custom to good phones with good cameras on board. This all started a long time ago with Nokia devices and to this day it’s the same – I have no need for a standalone camera and never will due to the constant improvements in mobile camera technology, they provide more than adequate results with less to carry around.

Below is a photo with my daughter in a place called Viewpoint in Dublin where you can see Dublin Bay.

Which smartphone do you use for quick photos and in what ways does it help you?

For me now I use the Lumia 930 or a HTC One M9. The Lumia range offers the best best experience with photography from mid-range upward, I did once have a 1020 which my father took a lend of and will not give it back but I’m happy with the 930 as it provides what I want, when I want, where I want.

What apps do you think every budding photographer needs on her/his smartphone?

Do we really need apps? Well yes and no, this varies per individual and their personal taste. I’m more of an au naturale guy and prefer to use the phone’s stock camera, I like things to be natural, so if one app I would recommend, it would be Lumia Camera 5, there is nothing else that interests me after this.

What is the next piece of Kit that you would like to have?

This is a good question to ask as I normally get what I want, well most of the time anyway. As mentioned, it will be mobile of course, so looking ahead it will be either a good mobile device or tablet with optimum abilities enhancing my life. After that I will be seeking a new laptop which I yet have to decide on, yet with upcoming events who knows what is around the corner… I typically stick to the current models and tend not to hang on to older technology, although I do collect and have the biggest collection of Nokia/Lumia devices in Ireland.

What do you see as the future of photography?

I think mobile will become the norm – not a standalone DSLR, but a device or something similar. The HTC Re would be an example – small, functional and does what it says on the tin. We are now more mobile than ever before and people want what’s portable and productive, these technologies are available now and they are growing at  a fast pace and the consumer seems to like it..Like tablets – they are now fading away due to phablets and the same is happening to standalone cameras. People want an all in one device that can do more.
