Tech Review – The Poly Blackwire 8225 . #Poly #Blackwire #Tech #WFH

The Poly Blackwire 8225 headphone are lightweight yet powerful with features and can be used as a pair of normal headphones too offering great sound with options to customise to your liking too via software you download onto your PC or Laptop and overall can be used in a hybrid manner for office, business or a personal capacity with music too which is really nice, lightweight as mentioned this is important and these can be used for hours on end with no sweating or head fatigue noted during my testing and I have been busy doing lots of virtual events and calls here at home and found these a good buy if you are in the market for something new as we are now in a massive move to working from home these are a pair of headphones to check out to cover all aspects at hand.

The build quality is good too and always is from Poly and they look well and of course that familiar orange cable is present with a control box offering features on the fly which is really useful. Again I must point out with such a product these can be used on your tablet of smartphone too and not only PC enabled as many of us would use our mobile to conduct our work on too these days and all you need is an adapter to use them so if you do not have one invest in one as they work really well on mobile too and it is something I do quite often rather than been stuck at my laptop all day I can move around with the headphones on me and swap rooms in the house with no hassle. Sound  quality is great overall and with ANC present it seals the deal on this headset..

The Blackwire 8225 is easy for IT to deploy and manage and is designed to drastically reduce the noise and distraction that comes with every style of workplace – from the home office to the traditional office. Three settings of advanced hybrid active noise cancelling (ANC) technology allow users to adjust to fit their work environment and seamlessly tune out distracting household noises such as vacuum cleaners, or workplace chatter from colleagues. A noise-cancelling microphone enhanced with Poly Acoustic Fence technology ensures users sound crisp and clear from wherever they work by automatically reducing distracting background noise, like nearby talkers or dogs barking, so that the only sound heard on the other end of the line is clear, premium audio of the speaker talking.

7 Smart Office Additions You Should Be Investing In..

A smart office is a workplace that integrates modern technology to make workers’ tasks more manageable, faster, and smarter. It contains some excellent management tools that are able to improve everyone’s performance in the workplace.

More companies today are securing the advancement of employee experience with creative ideas and concepts. To maintain this effort, companies have to ensure that they are keeping up with the progress of modern technology. Here are some office options that companies are currently investing in.

1 -Meeting Rooms, Conference Rooms, and Smart Desks

Communication is always key in an office to help it work properly and efficiently. Offices with smart desks improve many aspects of an employee’s productivity, amenity, and well being. Most high-tech systems provide the needed environment for a proper sit-stand posture. These systems monitor reserved and open desk spaces, where they can find their employees’ exact location for better communication. Employees also have their right to have their privacy mode on. Smart conference rooms can host video conferencing or employee meetings.

2 – High-Tech Video Tracking Tools

High-tech video tracking can monitor internal theft and intensifies other security purposes. Offices use the camera technology pervasively to study office traffic and usage in different lighting, zoom features, and various angle views. Multiple screen features also help in tracking activities in many locations using a computer or a smartphone. Offices uploads files on cloud storage for future reference.

3 – Office Gamification

Most offices take the welfare of their employees into consideration by providing them with essentials such as food, a balanced workload, and leisure. Gamification has an essential role in an office for providing onboarding, sales, and various processes. Some gamification may seem dull due to a forced fun factor. However, smart managers can create intelligent tools to improve gamification with the use of modern office technology. There are gamified apps that help users keep track of their efficiency, giving employees motivation, and better self-worth at work.

4 – Intelligent Amenities

Most office structures have built-in amenities to provide an optimal working environment for its users, but most of the time, company owners have a hard time giving everyone their desired temperature or intensity of light. With smart technology, employers are now able to control the climate inside their office, which saves energy and expenses. Intelligent climate control systems are capable of knowing the usage patterns, preferences and regulate the office temperature. It improves employee’s productivity and morale. Employees can also adjust doors, windows, and lights with their capacity to provide lighting to their area with just a tap on the control screen.

5 – Robot Vacuums

In an age where cleanliness is essential, you can never go wrong with having a robot vacuum to get the job done with ease. In fact, some advanced robot vacuums can even sterilize as they clean. They are great for cleaning hard to reach areas such as underneath chairs and tables. For office carpets, however, they may not be as effective. It is still best to have them cleaned by professionals like Emerald Carpet Cleaning to make sure that your office space is clean at all times.

6 – Voice Control

If you really want to take your smart office to the next level, invest in a voice control technology that can distinguish your voice and listen to your commands. Need to turn off the light? Want to call your secretary? You don’t have to stand up from your desk or press anything. With speech recognition applications, you just have to say your command, and you will have them.

These are just some of the smart office additions that you can consider. In a rapidly changing workforce environment, innovation can lead to a more efficient future for businesses and their employees.

7 – Storage Area Network

For employees who deal with a lot of data, investing in a storage area network or storage network is the answer. Aside from offering an extra layer of security, it also helps to store critical information and makes business operations more efficient. It eliminates physical requirements that allow admins and other personnel to access crucial data remotely without losing track of any files. With SAN storage prices becoming more affordable, it is a must-have for any office. Just make sure to choose a reliable provider when going for one.

5G Myths and Facts – But is It Really Worth It?

The 2002 movie Minority Report may have been too futuristic but that scene of a holographic person exhibiting sufficient knowledge of the purchasing history of a customer gave the world a preview of the 5G network. As if that’s not enough, the 2008 movie Wall-E showcased the technology’s capability to allow consumers to virtually try on clothing and see how they look in it without actually wearing the items. These movies offered a snippet of how the 5G wireless technology could change the world once it is fully rolled out.

While 5G technology started to take off in 2019, and is live in countries like the United States and the United Kingdom, its impact has yet to be felt worldwide. The full impact of 5G will soon be felt in Malta after Melita applied for a license to put the fifth generation technology into trial phase, with the use of existing frequencies. With this, Malta is now one of the very first countries in Europe that can boast of the 5G network.

The 5G technology is said to be the next decade’s most important investment. But like most novelties the technology has been widely feared and criticised for a variety of reasons. Concerns about its radiation effect has led to a halt in 5G testing in Belgium.  Countries like Switzerland are also monitoring the possible negative effects from the use of such technology. But are these myths and facts about 5G real?

Myths and Facts about 5G

5G is a health hazard

There are sectors that have criticised the use of 5G as a health risk considering that it works through radio frequencies. This belief is not entirely impossible considering that the World Health Organization raised the possible carcinogenic effects of cellphone radiation to humans. But others argued that even pickled food and diesel fuel are considered carcinogenic too. Others fear that 5G can lead to the death of human cells, stunt brain formation and function, and cause infertility.

While the raging debate on whether or not 5G is harmful to humans remains unsettled, the technology seemed to have earned the approval of Federal Communications Commission Chairman Ajit Pai. His proposal to establish a $9-million 5G fund is expected to pave the way for network connectivity in the United States countryside.

5G can be used for surveillance and espionage

There is no arguing that the 5G network will be widely scrutinised in the United States and in the United Kingdom due to security concerns. After all, at least two of the nine companies that provide the 5G infrastructure, are either owned in part of in whole, or have close ties with the Chinese government. These are Huawei and ZTE. The other providers are Qualcomm, Samsung, Nokia, Ericsson, Datang Telecome/Fiberhome, Cisco Systems and Altiostar.

There are fears that the information that flows through 5G technology could somehow be tapped by a foreign agency. However, the same argument can be made against 4G which is now being used worldwide, although 5G’s potential is more far-reaching. As the world becomes totally connected, it becomes more vulnerable to cyber attack or even espionage.

Such criticisms, however, disregarded the real reasons why 5G technology is needed. Among these reasons are the need for massive connectivity and higher mobility to respond to the requirements of various sectors including public safety, agriculture, manufacturing and transportation.

5G was responsible for the spread of Covid-19

The claim that 5G led to the spread of the pandemic might be absurd but you can blame it on conspiracy theories concocted by fertile minds. Such theory has been attributed to British physicist Dr. Barrie Trower, who is considered a Microwave Weapons Expert. He claims that 5G is responsible for weakened immune systems. Not too many people believed him then, until COVID-19 became a global health hazard.

Trower’s theory has been debunked by some sectors who claimed that COVID-19 is present even in countries without the 5G service such as Iran. In contrast, South Korea which is a trailblazer when it comes to the 5G technology, has successfully contained the health crisis. Scientists argued that COVID-19 could not be transmitted through 5G as it is passed on through respiratory droplets.

Regardless of how people perceive the 5G technology, it is something that has already started and has proven its worth in specific industries. More people have realised the importance of being connected especially now that almost every country has imposed a lockdown due to COVID-19. More people have become dependent on connectivity to make things work.

Ericsson has projected that at least 1.5 billion people will be using 5G by 2024. On the other hand, Ovum Consultancy reported that a third of mobile connections in North America will be running on 5G in the next three years.

The race to building smart communities is on, and the 5G technology is expected to play an important role in fulfilling that goal. Just like every technology, 5G has its advantages and disadvantages. And for sure, people will be taking advantage of this new technology, either with good or bad intentions, But seeing how it could revolutionise medicine, agriculture and manufacturing, 5G could be well worth the risks.

Senior phone brand responds to tech struggles of lockdown for UK and Ireland retirees emporia’s industry-first Training Book is focus of new campaign. #emporia #Tech

emporia, the Austrian-based retiree phone brand, that launched in the UK and Ireland at the start of the year, has made its ground-breaking Training Book the focus of its latest advertising campaign. emporia has found that its Training Book is the breakthrough enabler to help older users to become confident using a smartphone and stay digitally connected.

The 135 page simple to navigate Training Book has been developed for those who have not previously used a smartphone, or for existing owners, to build their confidence and get the most out of the experience. It allows them at their own pace to understand what a smartphone is and how to use it. Topics include Wi-Fi and bluetooth and how to connect to them, through to how to make a voice, WhatsApp or video call. It also explains basics which many already familiar with technology take for granted, such as how to swipe and use a screen, download and use apps or Google maps.

The demand for the Training Book is driven by two factors; that 76% of those aged over 66 do not use a smartphone so have little experience of its capabilities. And secondly, even if a person has a smartphone, following retirement, device use drops from over three hours a day to around 15 minutes. The less people use it, the less they will use its functionality leading to forgetting how to make full use of the device or basic feature handling. The Training Book not only introduces people to how they can make the most of a smartphone, because it is paper based, but it also acts as a reference to go back to if users become unsure or forget how to do certain activities. Most importantly, they can do this independently without help.

Feedback from consumers since the launch in January has been incredible, including a 94 year old lady who has never owned a smartphone before and used the Training Book to get herself connected and happily using the device daily.

Drawing on its 29 years experience in the sector, emporia hired an expert trainer to develop and write the Training Book. Over a two year period, hundreds of interviews and group feedback sessions took place to ensure the content, layout and exercises cover all the areas a first-time smartphone user may need help with.

Chris Millington

Chris Millington, managing director of emporia UK and Ireland said: “At emporia our philosophy is ‘simple is the new smart’ and we apply that approach to everything we do. We are passionate about the retiree market and we know that this Training Book will transform the way phone users in this audience segment will connect digitally. Our customers want to independently build their knowledge and boost confidence around using a smartphone and our Training Book ticks all those boxes.

“The online campaign has been developed to generate significant traffic to emporia’s growing range of retail partners, including several key, new retail relationships which will be announced soon.

“The COVID situation reinforces the ongoing challenges faced with getting the older generation digitally connected. To help with isolation, we saw relatives giving a parent or grandparent an old smartphone or even a new one to Facetime or WhatsApp, but they did not continue using them because they are complex for this audience and rely on someone to teach and remind them how to use it. The combination of an emporia simple-to-use smartphone and the Training Book addresses these issues and ensures that retirees independently master the technology and remain digitally connected to their friends, family and the wider world.”

Amazon – All-New Echo Family – Reimagined, Inside and Out.. #Amazon #Echo #Tech

Today, Amazon introduced its all-new line-up of Echo devices, featuring completely new designs, enhanced audio, more powerful hardware, and experiences that make Alexa even smarter, more engaging and helpful.

“These are the best Echo devices we have ever made,” said Eric Saarnio, Vice President Amazon Devices EU. “Echo and Echo Dot look beautiful and sound even better, and Echo Show 10 completely reimagines Alexa with a screen—the display moves with you, staying in view as you move around. It’s as natural as having a conversation. Plus, Alexa continues to get smarter—just ask to watch Netflix, make group calls and much more.”

The New Echo—New Spherical Design, Dolby Stereo Sound and Built-in Zigbee Hub

The next-generation Echo combines the best of Echo and Echo Plus into a single device at the same affordable Echo price.  Its all-new design and fabric finish looks great in any space, with a bright LED light ring at the base of the sphere that reflects off of surfaces for added visibility. The new Echo also sounds significantly better; thanks to a 3.0-inch woofer, dual-firing tweeters, and Dolby processing that delivers stereo sound with clear highs, dynamic-mids, and deep bass. As with Echo Studio, the new Echo automatically senses the acoustics of your space and fine-tunes audio playback – just ask to listen to your favourite music and the rich, detailed sound automatically adapts to any room. For the first time, Echo also comes with a built-in smart home hub, with support for Zigbee, and supports Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE).

Echo Dot & Echo Dot with clock—New Spherical Design and Crisp, Full Sound

Echo Dot, our best-selling smart speaker is now even better. The all-new Echo Dot has the same spherical design and fabric finish as Echo, making it a stylish way to add Alexa to any space. It’s compact, but packs in a powerful 1.6-inch front-firing speaker, producing crisp vocals and balanced bass for full sound you can enjoy in any room of your home. The new Echo Dot with clock comes with the same enhancements as the new Echo Dot, plus a simple LED display so you can glance at the time, temperature, timers, and alarms. And now, the tap-to-snooze feature that customers love on Echo Dot with clock will also be available on Echo Dot and Echo.

Echo Show 10—Designed to Move with You

The all-new Echo Show 10 is a complete re-imagination of Alexa with a screen, and has been upgraded in every way. It features a brilliant 10-inch, adaptive HD display that automatically stays in view when you interact with Alexa—no matter where you are in the room. Plus, the new brushless motor is completely silent, meaning you won’t hear a thing as Echo Show 10 rotates.

Ask Alexa to make a video call without worrying about being out of frame – as you move, the screen does too, and the new 13-megapixal, wide-angle camera pans and zooms to keep you at the centre of the frame. Plus, with new Alexa Group Calling you can create a group of up to eight friends and family members, and simply say, “Alexa, call my family”.

As Echo Show 10 moves, so does its dual, front-firing tweeters and powerful woofer, providing premium, directional sound that automatically adapts to your space, making it great for all kinds of music, videos and more. Echo Show 10 will also rotate as you watch the news, flash briefings, or TV shows from Prime Video. And, coming soon you will be able to watch Netflix* simply by asking Alexa, with the ability to search, browse, and stream the entire catalogue by voice.

“Improving our member experience includes making Netflix available where people want it. We’re excited to partner with Amazon on bringing the Netflix experience that people know and love to Echo Show, making it easier for our members to browse their favourite shows and films using their voice,” Barry Smith, Partner Engagement Manager, Netflix.

Echo Show 10 uses advanced computer vision algorithms to help make your home smarter and more secure. You can also securely access a live feed on Echo Show 10 from another Echo Show device, or the Alexa app, with the ability to remotely zoom or pan the display and camera to see the entire room; or set up a Routine that automatically turns on the lights when someone enters the room. Plus, its built-in smart home hub capabilities include support for Zigbee and BLE.

As with all Echo devices, Echo Show 10 is designed and built with privacy in mind. It uses a fusion of audio-based localisation and computer vision – all processed locally on device – to power the intelligent motion that keeps the screen facing you. Turn motion off at any time by sliding the built-in camera cover closed, adjusting settings on-device or in the Alexa app, or just by saying “Alexa, turn off motion.”

Sustainable

All Echo devices announced today are built with 100% post-consumer recycled fabric, 100% recycled die-cast aluminium, and post-consumer recycled plastic. Plus, all wood fibre-based materials used in Echo device packaging are made entirely from responsibly managed forests or recycled sources. Review – The Arlo Pro 3 floodlight camera. #Arlo #Camera #Security #Tech

It is now time to update and check your security detail at home as the shorter days are now moving in swiftly and there has been many incidents of pet theft too this product offers a two in one solution giving you a good recording of incidents with a built in floodlight and a piercing alarm tone.

The installation is simple you will need a drill and most likely a masonry drill bit and a screwdriver and once mounted and your device is charged up you just set up the device in the settings to your needs and leave it there to do its job and that is done rather well not missing a beat for notifications..

The app is as always but now with some new features including 2FA for an extra layer of security,we have covered the app before but go through it quickly again in the video review, All the same offerings are present as before with a simple to use UI that makes it easy to use and set up with the option of geofencing and also zones to limit false notifications and focus on certain areas within the cameras range, A lesson I have learned from before was just leaving the camera on full view it was picking up neighbours washing blowing on the line for example but this is not a bad thing and shows just how effective the camera is..

This floodlight camera can be used either in the front or rear of your house and it can be moved easily should you wish too, I have the front of my house covered so used out the back garden as this offers a better wider view and with the floodlight built in it gives you more in return over a standard camera and good high quality visuals so any intruder will be picked up before they even see the camera if they have not done their homework. Most criminals are opportunists, some professional and now use drones to check out peoples property for evaluation to see if you have dogs and so on the property and what else might be worth robbing.

You have two way audio again which is fine and of course the really annoying piercing alarm which is good and you also have IFTTT and smart assistant options and this time around no base station is needed to use which I like. Another thing I need to point out is your data privacy which is a growing concern with people buying such equipment but Arlo have said they are committed to protecting your privacy

Overall this is a great product and easy to use and set up and has worked flawlessly during my test run.

Arlo have sent us this to review with no compensation or copy approval or influence on my review.
