Review – My thoughts on the Nokia 8110 4G, We all need to take a break. #Nokia #8110

The Nokia 8110 is another nostalgic device HMD and Nokia gave us some months back but many people do simply not get the gist of such a device. It is not a smartphone as such but gives us some access to the web and it might get WhatsApp soon.

I have seen reviews with people saying it does not have Instagram of all things and other features you find in a smartphone which we are all custom to today. GET OVER IT people it is not designed or intended to be a fully fledged smartphone.

This device like the NOKIA 3310 from last year is aimed to keep things simple and help you tone down on social media and more it has become a real problem now with people having their heads buried in their phone on the bus, train or walking down the road but that’s fine.. Go into a coffee shop or restaurant where people once did to talk to each other and what do you see?? Yes the same fucking thing that’s become a huge problem.

It’s not all that bad though. The 8110 has a camera it has internet connectivity and it has TWITTER and other internet features on it yet the typing is a problem at first but you will quickly rememeber how it was in the NOKIA 3310 days

The 8110 does offer quite a bit when it comes to basic needs and still is a useable phone other than calls and sms but I like how getting things are slow compared to modern phones and its good to keep us away from the typical smartphones we have today which are fast great for multitasking.

The design is great keeping it to its original device dubbed the matrix phone back in 1996 but smaller more compact but with a bigger low res screen. The build is tough and should take a few knocks if you have not hopped it off a wall already being one of the snowflakes not understanding the purpose of the phone.

There is only one button on the 8110 which is enough and this powers it on the rest is hidden under the slider portion which gives us a nice flat keyboard with a dpad control panel that works very easily.

So what does it have.. You can make calls, text, there is a game store albeit limited for now, there is a camera, snake, YouTube, Assistant, A music player, Browser, email, Clock, Video player, Google, Maps,Calender, Note,Calculator , Recorder, FM Radio, Unit converter and wait for it “TWITTER” which is on the app store social page.

Another handy feature of the 8110 is it has a Wi-Fi hotspot so if you are stuck for a signal being a 4G device you can connect to this for an internet connection.

The main thing here is how you will need to revert back to the old texting format to get things done which in fairness is not that hard and you will fly along but the difference here is it is much slower than we are now custom to and the same applies to loading times which is faster than I was expecting but that’s how it is and for me it a good deterrent keeps me off the phone more than on it given I spend much of my working day on a phone constantly and a laptop.

I spoke to TRT WORLD about the Nokia 8110 during the year see that clip – HERE

The screen is too small but thats not the point the camera is not mind-blowing but again not the point of this device but they are there to tide you over and get the job done, You can take videos and pictures and look at a screen and look on the web but it’s not the same experience you would get from a standard phone which is great.

I can understand to a point though with some criticism of the 8110 like why bother at all putting these features on it. However to pick some items NOT on the phone comparing to what is on it is simply nothing more than a baby that dropped their soother out of the pram because it did not have X and Y and has A and B. You do not understand the market this is aimed at and need to re-evaluate yourself.

For me the 8110 is a new lease of life like the 3110.. I can have calls and text at any time and should I need some more its there if I need it. I use my main smartphone during the day because I need it and to swap over to the 8110 I am free of constant notifications and the urge to pick it up and go looking for things, the phone just sits on the table or couch and I wait for it to get a call or text rather than me posting things on social and checking notifications from all my social accounts.

The battery is also great I only have to charge it once a while with my current usage and perhaps that will change as I am now trying to keep a phone out of my hand more than before and I can check my messages etc once a day and get back to having a life other than having me head stuck in a small screen.. The Nokia 8110 might be seen as a nostalgic tug on the heartstrings by some like the 3310 was but its a nice form factor and has plenty to keep you going without the fuss and its easy to use and will keep you from social and perhaps talk to your family, friends and collauges face to face for a change.

The Nokia 8110 4G is available nationwide and we will have updates on any new news on the device. In short its a great phone with enough to keep you going and keep you with your head up rather than buried in your phones screen and perhaps you might just talk to someone face to face for a while because currently things have gone to far and we no longer communicate face to face… Take a break people…

The Nokia 8110 4G lands on Tesco Mobile. #Nokia #8110 #Ireland

The Nokia 8110 4G has just landed on Tesco Mobile for €79.99 The 8110 is the refreshed matrix phone if you will and has some features to keep you going but without the fuss of full access to social media and so on and it also has a smaller screen a camera just in case you happen to see something.

Key features

  • 2.4″ Display
  • 2MP Rear Camera
  • 4GB Internal Memory
  • Up to 32GB External Memory
  • 1500mAh Battery

Like the 3310 this device cuts out latest options available on smartphones today and will keep you off your phone and actually interact with people face to face.It does has a catchy look and with the possibility of whats app coming soon it might be just enough to replace your current handset and you can once again enjoy life without your head buried in a screen all day.

Nokia 7 Plus repair. How did it go.. There was more than the USB-C issue.

Recently I posted a video about my Nokia 7 Plus in which the USB-C port became so loose it would not hold the cable nor charge the phone. Now I have my Nokia 8 which would have got equal usage over the same period of time did not suffer the same problem. On searching through forums there was one or two issues of same so I posted a video so people could watch out for the problem I had. It now turns out this is not just a problem with this device the same has happened to my Nokia 7.1 and now widespread reports with other devices having the same problem.

I reached out on social media via Twitter and got a response almost two days later I posted the same question on the support forum where yet I have to get a response at all which is annoying and where a community of people help out others with problems big and small. Finally I took to Facebook where I got support almost immediately so this is some guidance as to how my experience was and where I got some form of result.

Looking for a job in IT or Tech, click the image below.

From booking in my phone to ordering a courier was a simple process and you are given an option to get DHL to call to your door or drop it into a hub, I took the drop off point because i do not rely on couriers as there has been items here for up to 6 months not collected this is not naming any company in particular but it happens. You will need to print off a shipping label prior drop off or it will not be accepted.

My device was one week away and was shipped to Hungary for repair which is odd. It came back One week later and I got a list of other issues I did not notice asides the original complaint. The overall experience was good though from Nokia. They emailed me when they got the device, emailed again telling me it was in for inspection and emailed once more when the repair was finished but with no details. The details came with my phone though and shed some light on issues unbeknownst to me.If you have had a similar issue let us know and share because something needs to be done about it very quickly.

The Nokia 1 is now only €59.99 with Vodafone. #Nokia1 #Ireland

The Nokia 1 has been on sale some weeks now and its a great phone for the money if you are not into heavy multitasking or expecting superb photos as you would expect for the higher end models from Nokia like the 6.1  and 7 plus etc.  Again there is price variances around some just over €100 which I would ignore and some good deals from €74.99 and up unlocked. Vodafone now have the device at a great price which a phone like this could be a first smartphone for some or just a spare device to have about for going out or to concerts and festivals etc.

With a quad-core processor, front and rear cameras, 4G connectivity and dual SIM, the Nokia 1 elevates everything you love about feature phones in an accessible smartphone package. Combining a removable 2150 mAh battery and power-efficient IPS display, its hardware works with the optimised apps so you can make the most out of each charge.

Nokia Entertainment Flip Cover for the Nokia 2.1 quitely dropped. #Nokia2

When it comes to cases for your new phone often the case (pun intended) you are wasting your time looking in bricks and mortar here in Ireland for some time after release. Even the Nokia 7 Plus has not got an official case yet bar the one provided in the box and I have asked direct with no response on this matter with no repsonse and again on the Nokia forums, This follows a trend we have seen in the past and in the interim third party case manufacturers reap the rewards to some extent as we have reviewed many third party cases for the likes of the Nokia 7 Plus and other devices.

OK one could argue you get a case with the phone which is a step in the right direction but users want more as some devices in the past have got cases made directly by HMD/Nokia.It adds a nice touch to the device too having orginal cases.

Just recently reported by our good friends at nokiamoblog they have spotted a new case for the budget Nokia 2.1 device which is welcome and this case is called the Nokia Entertainment Flip Cover  which is designed to allow you consume media without the need to hold your device or remove it from its case which is good.

With the Nokia Entertainment Flip Cover, you can switch from compact protection to a free-standing media display in an instant.

There is no price yet on the store for this case so we will update the info when we get it.. It is true some people like their device naked with no case but its best to have one for your own protection especially is you are outdoors someday it will pay off with a small investment. Argos also have a clear case now on sale for the 2017 Nokia 2 and you can see that HERE  Check it out the official Nokia 2.1 case HERE
