If you do not like genetically modified foods, Shop GMO-Free app is here. #Apps #Food #GMO

Most of us like to live and eat healthy but when it comes to food perhaps lots of us are not so cautious as to what we eat or know exactly what we are eating.. GMOs is the subject of this app which defines what foods contain genetically modified organisms. The fact that foods contains GMOs would not be an issue for some people and a big issue for others..This app is here to help the latter..Genetically modified foods tend to be cheaper but there is a catch here. This app is the first of its kind in the UK but we ourselves here in Ireland can use it for reference too having looked at some of the product on it which amounts to over 10,000 products in total. The app was developed boy John Board and James Hodgkiss

Shop GMO- Free explain this term GMO for those who might not be aware.

Genetically modified foods are produced from organisms that have had specific changes introduced into their DNA, using methods of genetic engineering.
These techniques have allowed for the introduction of new biological traits in the food, as well as a far greater influence over a food’s genetic structure than was previously the case by traditional selective breeding.

The basic app is free and includes these features:

Adrypht – An app designed for passing time that will have you hooked. #Android #Apps #Gaming

Irish Man Dave Connolly who is based in East Galway has created a new app that was designed to pass a few minutes when you are at a loose end or perhaps sitting in a que or waiting on a bus for example..Dave whom is a programmer by trade decided to create the app and its also his hobby and runs a one man show called www.menounco.com

Dave tells us a little more about himself and the app.

Adrypht was designed to be ten minutes of distraction. The kind of game you pick up, play for a while and then put down again. The idea of drifting through space was supposed to be relaxing for the players.
I work on the menounco projects in my spare time, which I don’t have a lot of (work, kids, etc.), so updates can be quite slow. Work has already begun on Adrypht 2 and I have a number of other new apps planned, but there is no release schedule. They’ll be done when they’re done. If/when I get more spare time, menounco also has a few non-game projects planned for mobile and desktop.
Dave also tells us that the ISS Pinecone featured in Adrypht is the “Irish Space Ship Pinecone”, and was named by his 4-year-old daughter.
The idea of the game is simple and straight forward with as simple menu structure and there is some nice music with the gameplay itself too,Your task in the game is to guide the ship home using gravitational pull of the Asteroids by tapping the screen,,Sounds simple?? Check it out below right now for free. Dave also tells us that the plan is for all menounco apps to be free, ad-free and without in-app purchases which will be more than welcome for users.

Hound – New virtual assistant launches on Android and iOS. #Hound #VirtualAssistant

Hound which is a new Virtual Assistant has just launched on Android after sometime in beta and there is not much changed here either,Hound is a creation of Soundhound which most people will be familiar with,Virtual Assistants are a handy tool and a lazy one at that should you wish to find something by voice rather than type in the info on your device into a search engine. For me I hardly use them and think they are a gimmick that eventually wears off and quickly at that but for some these assistants are useful.Hound is aiming to take on Siri and Cortana and Google now which are the alternative competition from Google,Apple and Microsoft..Hound suggests you can speak more freely with the app rather than using keywords..Our first look at the app proves different but its fast in most cases.Hound though offers a follow up to refine your results.

Given the app is not available in Ireland we have asked the app some simple questions which the app is actually fast to respond too to be fair,The app is now on iTunes and the Play store but you will need to download the APK –  Download the APK at your own risk though which you will find via a Google search APK mirror.

Some features of the app are as follows.

• Weather + Temperature
– “What’s the weather going to be like tomorrow at 6pm?
– “How about in Hawaii during August?”

• Local Search + Yelp Restaurants
– Ask for restaurants, coffee shops, stores, and be as specific as you’d like
– You can even exclude places or that you don’t want, such as food types
– “Show Restaurants within 10 miles except for Chinese”

• Navigation (GPS) + Directions
– Ask for a destination and to navigate there seamlessly
– Get the best directions taking traffic into consideration
– “Show me directions to the nearest Starbucks”

There is a new app that helps early diagnosis of cancer #Apps #Cancer #Health

Health apps are on the up and it is a good thing to see these days since we are spending more time on our mobile phones. The app was developed with health professionals and patients and investment by the Scottish Government costing 12K. Although the app is aimed for the UK it will do no harm to take note of what is on offer..The app is simple to use with 3 main menus to pick from the offering a list of guidelines for multiple types of cancer.

Health Secretary Shona Robison said:

“We are committed to supporting people with cancer and ensuring they have access to the best possible care.“This app, which has been developed in partnership with health professionals and patients, will make it easier and quicker for doctors, pharmacists and senior nurses to access information on referral for those suspected of having cancer.”

Dr Douglas Rigg, a Glasgow GP, who was also involved in the development of the app said:

“The app brings us quick access to information to support clinical decision making. It has immediate and constant access as the offline feature means no internet connection is required. The app will also allow for updates of any major changes in guidance. Mobile devices are becoming an integral part of GPs equipment and apps like this are part of the future of primary care and for GPs keeping knowledge up to date.”

Dumphones are on the rise again,we chat to @RadioDowntown about it. #Tech #Phones #Radio

Dumphones or Feature phones are as popular as ever it seems and are a great revenue stream for Manufacturers even today,as we are immersed in having the best phones out there we are all phone addicts sporting the latest and greatest in mobile technology and for some even sitting in a que overnight to get the latest and not to be left disappointed. This is how we are today and the world we live in but a new trend is growing and that is reverting back to the dumphone. We check our devices on average 150 times everyday and for me it is probably more,we are addicted to social media such as Facebook Twitter Instagram and Snapchat being the main contenders here, but this has become an issue for many and distracting us from what is really happening around us and conversing with our friends face to face..

Today we spoke to RadioDowntown with Siobhan Mc Garry  on this very subject listen to it below..

Sit in a coffee shop, airport lounge or bus for example, what do we see?? Heads buried into our phones reading the news, replying to emails and social media and some browsing, this is where we are today and for some it has become too much…

People are moving back to devices that have just basic calls and text and some with no camera and internet connectivity, this cuts out all the online experience and distracts you from what is going on there giving you more time to focus on what is happening around you with your family and friends and so on.. Having seen both sides of the coin there is a big difference with a dumphone you are limited, some do offer internet but again its not like what you would see on your average smartphone, also some have no apps at all.. A life with no email, web, social media could you do it,have you done or will you do it..Tell us below…’

WhatsApp launches Beta programme on Android now live in store. #WhatsApp #Beta #Social

WhatsApp is a popular messenger app which allows users to communicate with others with simple text, photos, videos and calls all for free. Now they have launched a Beta programme where users can get early access to updates and test before the general public,This however does not mean all is rosey as in beta you are prone to bugs etc but you do get to see new features before others and it seems plenty of us like this kind of environment.

You can leave the testing program at any time. If you leave the testing program and a public version of the app is available, you can switch to public version by uninstalling the testing version and installing the app again on Google Play.
