Available to both Premium Family plan and Free Spotify users, managed accounts give listeners 13 and under their own space to discover music while parents and guardians maintain control over their listener environment.
Parents and guardians using a Premium Family plan can create managed accounts with Premium benefits, while those on other plans can now easily set up a managed account on our free tier, helping them nurture their child’s love of music in a tailored environment.
Managed Accounts are built to give young listeners access to the Spotify app, balancing independence with essential parental oversight:
- Music-Only Experience: Accounts focus on audio, providing access to Spotify’s music catalog, playlist creation, and personalized discovery tools. Video content, and short looping visuals (Canvas) are turned off by default.
- Personalized Discovery: Young listeners get access to features like Daylist, Discover Weekly, and Made for You mixes that are uniquely tailored to their tastes and the settings their parents have chosen.
- Their Own “Spotify Wrapped”: At the end of the year, kids will receive their very own Wrapped experience—which also means parents’ recommendations and Wrapped results will be a reflection of their own listening.
- Built-in Safety & Privacy Defaults: All profiles are automatically private and unsearchable. Message features are disabled, and profile pictures cannot be uploaded (accounts use avatars instead).
- Adjustable Parental Controls: Through the Parental Controls Hub, parents can easily filter out explicit content (automatically active on new accounts) and manually manage the playback of specific artists or songs.
- Easy Setup: Adults can quickly create an account directly from the app’s homepage side drawer by tapping “Add account” and selecting “Create a managed account,” with parental consent seamlessly integrated.
