New Bank of Ireland mobile app now fully rolled out techbuzzireland.com

Bank of Ireland has completed the rollout of its new mobile banking app, with the upgraded app now available to all customers across Android and iOS devices.

Customers with automatic updates enabled will have received the new app automatically, those that don’t just have to update to the new version.

The new app has been redesigned around how customers manage their money day to day, providing a faster, simpler and more intuitive mobile banking experience. Customers can check balances and transactions more easily, make payments, manage payees and standing orders, control their cards and manage linked devices.

The app also provides enhanced security, accessibility and privacy features. Biometric security has been extended beyond signing in, allowing customers to use fingerprint or facial recognition to approve payments, add cards to a digital wallet, view their PIN and add new payees.

Parents and guardians can also manage their child’s Smart Start account through the app, including viewing transactions, transferring money, receiving spend alerts and freezing their child’s card when needed.

Susan Russell, CEO, Retail Ireland, Bank of Ireland, said: “We are delighted that the new app is now in the hands of our customers. Customers will see improvements across the app, from checking transactions and making payments to managing cards and payees. We’ve also put a lot of work into accessibility, security and giving customers greater control over how they bank with us. These are practical changes that should make a real difference to the everyday banking experience for our customers.”

Ciarán Coyle, Group Chief Operating Officer, Bank of Ireland, said: “Completing the rollout of our new mobile app is a significant step forward for our digital services. With around 30 million log-ins every month, this is our most-used customer channel, so getting the experience right really matters.

“Importantly, this is not just about the improvements customers can see today. The new platform gives us a stronger foundation to keep improving the app and introduce new features quickly. Alongside developments such as Zippay and instant payments, it demonstrates the investment we are making to deliver faster, simpler and more secure banking for our customers.”

Other improvements with the new app include:

  • Clearer account information, including larger balance displays, continuous scrolling through transactions and daily running totals
  • Simpler payee management, with full details visible and easier controls
  • Easier standing order changes, including quick amount adjustments and clearly labelled ‘cancel’ and ‘block’ options
  • More control over cards, including the ability to quickly freeze and unfreeze cards
  • Greater privacy, with customers able to blur account balances on screen
  • Dark Mode, providing more comfortable viewing in low-light settings
  • Improved accessibility, including adjustable font sizes and a design aligned with European Accessibility Act requirements
  • Better device management, allowing customers to see, rename and remove devices linked to their account
  • More ways to open accounts digitally, with Smart Start, MortgageSaver and Super Saver accounts available directly through the app
