Last night we attended a special UK Launch party for the all new Nokia 8 which features a first called #bothie mode, There was multiple units on display in several colours so it was nice to see a good range to get my personal choice in check for my unit. The event took place in London in a downstairs bar called BEAT London. You can pre-order it from Nokia.com, EE, Carphone Warehouse and Virgin. The Nokia 8 will be available to buy in the UK on 13th September 2017 from Carphone Warehouse, EE, Virgin, Amazon, John Lewis and a range of high street and online retailers. As for the Nokia 8 launch date in Ireland, well that has been kept tight lipped but we will know very soon and report back with that information. If you have any questions on the Nokia 8 feel free to gives us a shout on social or below in the comments. PS there is lots to come….. #RiskIQ Identifies 450+ Sites Serving Malware #GameOfThrones. #Streaming

Following the recent announcement in the independent which refers to the amount of times that people have illegally streamed this seasons series of Game of Thrones, please see the article here.

RiskIQ comments – Last year research from RiskIQ, the leader in external threat management, identified over 450 pirate content sites serving Malware to people trying to download or stream illegal versions of Game of Thrones. This reinforces recent RiskIQ research showing that 6 in 10 consumers access pirated content and 75% of this pirated content is often used as the bait to serve malware. After today’s announcement that the most recent series of Game of Thrones was pirated over a billion times, this means there is the potential for a staggering 750 million people to have been exposed to sites serving malware and have openly exposed themselves to potential threats.

“While we’re increasingly hearing that pirate sites are to be avoided, our recent research into people’s behaviour shows that the message is being ignored by many”, commented Colin Verrall, VP EMEA at RiskIQ.  “Specific examples like this will hopefully make it more real for people and result in a change in behaviour. It’s not only your internet safety that you put at risk, but your employer’s as well if you use your personal devices to access corporate systems”.

Will this new kickstarter from #NoPhone help cure smartphone addiction? #Phonecell

We have an issue these days with smartphone addiction and it is clearly getting worse and distratcting us from family and friends and even work, Everywhere we go people are on their phone, the bus, train, coffee shops and more and to make matters worse now food outlets are shoving tablets down out throats at meals for fuck sake..  Come on leave it out….

https://twitter.com/techbuzzireland/status/900985695946330112

OK one could argue it might keep the kids quite but in fairness its not only kids that go here and the one time we should be putting the phone down we are now seeing this and no doubt there will be advertsing built in…

Cast you mind back to Siempo phone which I said would fail.. And it failed so badly despite advice given to them by many but they still went ahead with it. A company who in fairness is trying to cure an issue something like this just would not work. NoPhone is another company who are aiming to fix this problem in a much more practical and cheaper manner albeit it looks stupid to be carrying around..

Well this company have come up with another idea which I think will fail because there is already practical options out there and even households now could have similar options at hand like security boxes and so on regardless that there is a timer on this package this is easy to circumvent so it will be only convenient for a small audience really given the already available alternatives out there but I could be wrong…

I like this company because they are doing things on the cheap unlike that pile of shite siempo phone tried to pass off that had failure written all over it from its inception so I hope NoPhone do get backing and that it does help people out with their addiction but realistically speaking we can only help ourselves in the long run and any decent attempt to help us is welcome once its cost effective and realistic and given in this case there is plenty of similar ideas already looking at us every day.

If you think this can help you see their campaign HERE and check out the company itself HERE

Review – The Garmin 65W Dashcam. #Garmin #dashcams #motoring

I have said it before and will say it again everyone should have a dashcam,In fact they should be a standard in every car and car manufacturers should be lining up dashcam makers to have theirs installed but no. However insurance costs here are rediculous and even recently the AA say the cost has come down, I would love to see where they got that form.

Anyway rant over I am going to talk about the Garmin 65W dashcam which is small and compact and offers lots of features and for its size I was impressed and its capabilities and its also a solid piece too which would withstand a few drops should you be moving from vehicle to vehicle which I would do..

First up check out the unboxing video below

The build quality here is great to begin with and its a robust unit, On the front we have a small screen which is 2.0 inches which is the smallest screen we have tested but its clear and readable which is important and notifications are loud and visible, more on that later. On the righ side we have 4 circular buttons which are easy to navigate, even when not looking. On the display beside the sceen these buttons are indexed with power on/off/back which is the top one and then consecutively UP-DOWN and take shot with the bottom key, this autosaves to your SD card.

On the left we have just our power source which is via micro USB which is more current than some of the dashcams we have used which use the older version. On top we have our window mount which is manoverable via a ball joint, this is also removeable which is handy so it can be placed basically in any position that suits you best and in a simple manner. On the bottom you will find your mico sd slot,sd card slot, ours came with an 8GB card, and speaker.

On the front you will find the 180 degree lens and thats it so overall its a simple set up and simple to use piece of equipment which we will demo in the video below.

ALERTS.. These work well quite well infact and there is settings here to pick from to to either silence these alerts or trun them off altogehter, It would be best to leave these alerts on especailly with speed limits and detection points unless you know your travel diary well, See the images below about the type of alerts you get which are uselfull and could save you points on your licence.

Also note you will get alerts prior speed zones. You can also use the voice activation to take videos and photos which is excellent and saves you from distraction although you can use the bottom button as mentioned to save an image should you wish but you should get use to the idea of voice controls..

Video samples on the Garmin 65W Dashcam

Overall this is really a nice dashcam and for its size its got plenty on board to keep the driver in check and always that added safety or having videos backed up should an incident arise, these would be vital in case of an accident as you cant say the camera lies….

Key specs on board.

  • 180-degree field of view captures more of the environment, including cross traffic
  • High-quality 2.1 megapixel camera with 1080p video capture; works even in low-light conditions
  • Forward collision and lane departure warnings plus alerts for nearby red light cameras and speed cameras
  • Includes lifetime safety camera updates
  • GPS-enabled with automatic incident detection (G-sensor) saves video footage on impact to show when and where events happened
  • Voice command allows you to start/stop audio recording, take a still picture or start/stop the Travelapse video capture feature

We check out @FiremoleLTD EVERY HOUSE needs this. #Irish #StartUp #Tech #Firemole

Firemole is a new Irish product that could potentially save your life and every house should have at least one of these and for the tech fan like myself could do with a few when there is multiple devices running all day.

Over the last few years we have seen that there is more and more fires in homes and in almost all cases its due to faulty or shit third part chargers that can be bought anywhere and to save a few quid many people just buy these because they are in your face everywhere these days and cost buttons compared to OEM or proprietary charging equipment which mostly we can thank Apple for. These cheap chargers in my eyes are a no go in my house and will always remain that way but I have a few samples here of cheap crap and you can see even by the build quality and you can factor in the cost which in turn leaves you at risk of a hazard at some stage. In short DONT BUY CHEAP SHIT!!!

Firemole is an innovative little gadget that attaches to your plug or charge pack and monitors the temperature and once it hits 54 degrees the alarm will sound which in turn you then get off your ass and plug out the nominated device or devices and check things out. The alarm is loud enough and can be heard even if in another room so its not an issue nor does it required a standalone app to run either which is quite good, perhaps round two from firemole could indeed have this for if you are not at home and have things left on….

UNBOXNG,WALKTHROUGH AND PUTTING FIREMOLE TO THE TEST

Firemole is a simple unit with just a battery to power it which lasts around 18 months and easily replaceable with a battery similar to what you find in a car alarm fob and the batteries are widely available. There is a test button up top and a rest button it can get any simpler really and anyone can use it with ease, get set up and just leave it there to do its job. I have tried and tested one and it just works,it’s a simple gadget that could someday save your life and those around you. Thats all there is too it check out their campaign below and get this into your home today for peace of mind.

About Firemole.

Firemole is a young company that is developing a range of innovative fire safety devices that can protect people and their property. There has been huge growth in the electronic and electrical markets over the last number of years, but there has not been the proportional growth in safety devices to protect people from faulty, ageing or counterfeit equipment.

Firemole monitors the electronic and electrical equipment that people use every day. We are using unique, stylish, patent-pending designs so that Firemole is a product that people want to use.

Firemole is focusing on fire prevention over fire detection and our R&D team is working closely with research centres to reduce the number of injuries and fires worldwide which are caused by faulty electrical and electronic equipment.

Firemole aims to begin trading in August 2017 in Ireland and the UK with the intention of having international distributors in place by 2018.
