Stryker launches its Tullagreen Training Centre of Excellence

Teen-Turn Student Awarded Trane Technologies Thermoking Scholarship to Pursue Engineering at ATU Galway

Orlaith Heaney, from County Mayo, and a former student at Mount Saint Michael Secondary School, has been awarded a prestigious €24,000 scholarship from Trane Technologies Thermoking. This scholarship, designated for students in Teen Turn, will provide Orlaith with €6,000 annually over the course of her four-year engineering degree at Atlantic Technological University (ATU) Galway City.

Orlaith, a former student at Mount Saint Michael Secondary School, has been engaged with Teen-Turn since she was in first year. She was introduced to Teen-Turn’s afterschool program by a friend. Orlaith had many successful projects during her years of attendance at the afterschool programs participating in Technovation, Scifest and BT Young scientist. Most recently she was honoured with a National Garda Community Safety Award. Orlaith progressed to attending Teen-Turn PLUS Saturday clubs, which deliver advanced learning in subjects that are not universally offered in all-girls’ secondary schools in Ireland, providing participants with foundational skills critical for engineering and technology courses at the university level. It was through Orlaith’s participation in  Teen-Turn’s PLUS program that she discovered a strong passion for engineering, with a particular interest in robotics, automation and manufacturing engineering. Securing a ‘Teen-Turnship’, a 2 week summer work placement in Trane Technologies in Galway in the summer of 5th year further cemented Orlaith’s desire to study Engineering.

Orlaith applied to the common engineering programme at ATU Galway City, which will allow her to experience various branches of engineering in her first year before deciding on her specialisation. Orlaith says “Teen-Turn gave me opportunities I never would have had, from coding to building robots and learning from real engineers. These experiences showed me that engineering is where I want to be and I am excited to bring what I have learned into my studies at ATU. Teen-Turn’s programs helped me discover my love for robotics and automation and I am  eager to explore all branches of engineering in my first year at ATU. I cannot wait to dive into a career where I can make a real impact.”

The Trane Technologies scholarship is designed to provide financial support to young women like Orlaith and also to offer them access to invaluable professional resources. Scholarship recipients will benefit from mentorship and guidance from engineering experts throughout their studies and will have the opportunity to complete co-op rotations at the state-of-the-art Thermo King facility in Galway. CEOs in Ireland upbeat on growth and profitability

CEOs in Ireland are upbeat about their growth prospects over the next 12 months in spite of global economic and geopolitical uncertainty, holding a positive outlook on profitability, access to investment capital and managing business costs according to the latest EY CEO Outlook, which surveyed 1,200 executives globally – including leading CEOs in Ireland.

CEOs in Ireland display a notable degree of optimism regarding the future of their businesses, particularly in light of the significant cost increases experienced over recent years. A majority (60%) are either very or somewhat optimistic about managing input costs and the overall cost of doing business in the upcoming year. When it comes to business growth prospects, the outlook is even more encouraging. Revenue growth and profitability are areas where optimism prevails, with 60% and 67% of CEOs, respectively, expressing positive expectations. The sentiment around investment capital and free cash flow is also upbeat, with 63% of CEOs positive.

This optimism amongst CEOs here is in line with international trends, where CEOs remain confident about economic growth prospects over the next 12 months. Nearly seven in 10 (69%) of the CEOs surveyed globally are feeling optimistic about the outlook for the coming year even as they continue to navigate the complexities of an unpredictable and volatile business environment, shaped by emerging technologies, shifting consumer behaviour and an uncertain geopolitical landscape.

Globally, shifting geopolitical disruption was cited as one of the top three disruptive forces over the coming year, however this ranked fourth amongst CEOs in Ireland, with AI and emerging technologies (44%), supply chain pressures (43%), and climate change and environmental issues (40%) cited as key disruptive forces. While the research was conducted in advance of the recent US elections, this points to a resilience and optimism of CEOs who have in many instances dealt with a decade of disruption and who remain optimistic for the future.

Helena O’Dwyer, Head of Strategy at EY-Parthenon Ireland, says “In spite of the many economic headwinds, uncertain geopolitical currents, and wider disruptive forces at play, CEOs here in Ireland and globally are upbeat about their firm’s performance over the coming 12 months.  Increasingly, we are seeing that CEOs are starting to shift from being reactive to proactive in a bid to get ahead. A combination of pragmatic optimism and a fear of being left behind is expected to drive investment and activity over the coming months.”

Increasing Optimism on M&A

This optimism on business performance is leading to an increasingly positive outlook on M&A from CEOs. Globally, a strong majority of CEOs (70%) say they are seeking M&A and transaction opportunities, signalling a determined drive for growth as interest rates and the cost of capital fall and inflationary pressures subside. There has been a noticeable increase in activity and positivity in the Irish market with 921 M&A transactions recorded in the 12 months to October according to EY Competitive Edge Research. Additionally, half of respondents in Ireland said they are considering strategic divestments, spin offs or initial public offerings (IPOs).

Helena O’Dwyer, commented, “The M&A market in Ireland has shown resilience over recent times, with a promising uptick in activity. CEOs should now focus on strategic agility, leveraging opportunities for growth through acquisitions, while also considering divestments or IPOs to optimise their portfolios in response to an evolving financing market.”

Talent Retention and Acquisition

Despite the substantial optimism among CEOs in Ireland, concerns remain over attracting and retaining talent. While over half of CEOs here (53%) feel confident they can attract and retain talent, this trails behind the global average of 70%. This reflects a tightening of the labour market at home and highlights a skills shortage in key sectors with the country at near full employment. Despite the recruitment concerns, almost two thirds of CEOs (63%) are confident in being able to offer competitive salaries.

Helena O’Dwyer says: “Despite some concerns over costs and margins, CEOs are mainly optimistic. They know that staying vigilant on costs is key to success. The talent gap is real, but it presents an opportunity to continue to innovate and invest in our people, making Ireland a magnet for global talent. By focusing on continuous learning and employee development and upskilling, we can turn challenges into a competitive edge.”

AI And Emerging Technologies Outweigh Geopolitical Concerns

When asked to name the top three disruptive forces poised to drive significant change in their industry and key markets over the next 12 months, Irish CEOs identified emerging technologies and AI at the forefront (44%), followed closely by supply chain pressures (43%), while 40% identified climate change and environmental issues as key disruptive forces.

This prioritisation of AI and technology reflects a growing recognition that it is not merely a tool for productivity improvement, but a strategic lever that can fundamentally reshape business models and customer engagement, ultimately driving competitive advantage. Interestingly, sentiment regarding AI and emerging technologies is more robust among CEOs in Ireland compared to global respondents, suggesting a proactive approach to integration and innovation in Ireland.

According to the Dell Technologies Generative AI Pulse Survey, 76% of IT leaders believe that GenAI will have a significant, if not transformative, impact on their organisations.

Rhasidat Adeleke headlines Dell Technologies Forum

The Dell Technologies Forum took place today at the Convention Centre Dublin with Rhasidat Adeleke, Irish Olympian and national sprinting record holder, and Bruce Daisley, former Head of Twitter EMEA, author and culture coach headlining the event which showcased how the power of AI can be unlocked to drive innovation, productivity and business growth.

The event brought together over 500 business and IT leaders at the Convention Centre Dublin to discuss latest developments in Generative AI (GenAI), Edge Computing and managing complexity in multi-cloud environments.

This comes as recent research undertaken by Dell as part of the Innovation Catalysts Study revealed that while 70% of organisations here in Ireland believe GenAI is a strong catalyst for innovation, 49% are struggling to keep pace with advancements in those technologies. They cite the lack of the right talent (43%), lack of budget (33%) and an outdated technology environment (32%) as challenges they face in driving innovation.

Dell Technologies Propels Telecommunications into the AI Era

Dell Technologies today announced Dell AI for Telecom, a program designed to simplify and accelerate AI deployments for communications service providers (CSPs).

A recent MeriTalk study, commissioned by Dell Technologies, found that 48% of telecom executives see AI as the industry’s most transformative technology in the next five years, yet 68% feel their organization is struggling to keep pace with rapidly evolving technologies and customer needs.

The Dell AI for Telecom program, part of the Dell AI Factory, addresses these challenges by bringing together Dell’s AI expertise, infrastructure and services with software and silicon from across the AI ecosystem. The program will develop and deploy on-premises AI solutions that CSPs can use to enhance network performance, improve customer service and provide greater value at the enterprise edge.

Dell extends its collaboration with NVIDIA to:

  • Co-create and validate telecom AI solutions for CSPs, built upon and validated with the Dell AI Factory with NVIDIA. Using Dell PowerEdge servers, NVIDIA GPUs and enterprise-grade AI software, the solutions help CSPs use AI to:
    • Enhance customer care and improve network maintenance with the Amdocs amAIz platform.
    • Automate call center scripts and customer care operations with Iternal.
    • Conduct network troubleshooting and analysis with Kinetica SQL-GPT.
    • Develop digital twins for networks and perform predictive network maintenance with Synthefy.

  • Facilitate AI deployments at the edge of the telecom network with the PowerEdge XR8000 server, now available with NVIDIA L4 Tensor Core GPUs. Designed for telecom and edge use cases, the PowerEdge XR8000 servers are available in compact form factors with a scalable, modular design that simplify deployment and maintenance.

Collaborating with Network Operators to Speed AI Adoption and Innovation

Dell is already partnering with CSPs in the Dell Telecom Open Ecosystem Labs to develop AI solutions with Dell AI Factory infrastructure and ecosystem partners to enhance customer experiences and improve network performance.

  • Lintasarta, an Indonesian information and communication technology solutions company, is offering GPU Merdeka, a GPUaaS, to provide AI infrastructure, including NVIDIA GPUs with Dell PowerEdge XE9680 servers, for national businesses.
  • SK Telecom, Dell, and other partners are collaborating to develop an AI chat agent for communications service providers.
