Riot Games to Open Remote Broadcast and Content Production Centre (RBC) in Dublin, Ireland

Riot Games announced today that it will open a new Remote Broadcast (RBC) and Content Production Centre in Dublin, Ireland as part of its drive to continuously innovate and advance its digital broadcast and production capabilities for esports as well as super serve players and fans.

Riot Games and its Esports Technology Group (ETG) is growing to enable efficient, game-agnostic production of esports content, through technical innovation, standardized workflows, and shared infrastructure. The RBC in Dublin will be the first of up to three facilities in a global follow-the-sun model, with each RBC having the ability to produce six events simultaneously across production and audio rooms, bullpens and live stages, all built upon a scalable technology backbone for future growth.

Commenting on the announcement, Allyson Gormley, General Manager at Riot Games’ first RBC in Dublin said: “As global esports explodes in popularity, Riot Games finds itself in need of new production and operations workflows that better serve our multi-product future with LoL Esports, VALORANT Champions Tour, Wild Rift Esports, and more. As part of our drive to continuously innovate and advance our digital broadcast and production capabilities, Riot Games is excited to expand our global footprint to include this new Remote Production Broadcast Centre (RBC) in Dublin.”

The new Riot Games RBC will be located in Airside Retail Park, Swords, Co Dublin and will create 120+ jobs across Broadcast Engineering, Production, Control Crew, and Event Production.

The company is supported by the Irish Government through IDA Ireland.

Riot Games have partnered with NEP Ireland to provide technical production staffing and support at the facility in Swords. NEP Ireland is a division of NEP Group, the leading media technology partner for content creators around the globe. Roles will be advertised on www.riotgames.com and www.nepgroup.ie/talent in the coming weeks.

“We are delighted to be working on this project with Riot, further recognising Ireland’s global reputation as a hub for delivering world class production content. This partnership will see us grow and develop our talent base in Ireland and shall provide a great opportunity to attract diverse talent from under-represented backgrounds,” Steve Curran, NEP Ireland.

Welcoming the news Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Leo Varadkar TD said: “This is great news for the esports sector in Ireland. Riot Games is world renowned and the fact that the team has chosen Dublin as one of three locations globally to establish a new Remote Production Broadcast Centre, creating over 120 jobs, is a real vote of confidence in what we have to offer. We introduced a new tax credit as part of the Budget, which will, we hope, encourage the digital games industry to grow here. The very best of luck to the Riot Games team, I wish them every success.”

Riot Games first set up its EMEA Headquarters in Ireland in 2010 and has grown over the past decade to 165 employees in its Dublin city centre office. Up until now, its primary focus was on business operations, engineering, information security, publishing, live services and product development for its games. Alan Bridgeman, Managing Director, Riot Games commenting on Riot’s further investment in Dublin and expanding to a second Dublin location: “We chose Dublin for this strategically important investment because we are confident in the tech talent available, the attractive business environment, and our positive experience of serving our players from across Europe since we first set up here.”

Allyson Gormley, Riot Games closing: “Pulling off a project and build of this magnitude is a colossal undertaking in any circumstance, let alone in a pandemic.”

However, Gormley credits the Riot Games team in Ireland and around the globe for staying focused in order to get the job done. ”We’ve been very lucky to be surrounded by teams, both internally and externally, who have partnered with us to make sure our ambitious goal to stand up this facility by January 2022 could be achieved. From the teams at Henry J.Lyons Architects, Structure Tone GC, Fingal County Council, KMCS, AXIS and DMG Engineering plus NEP to name but a few,  to get to where we are today would simply not have been possible without their partnership. In a nutshell, the innovation and approach to this project speaks to the culture at Riot – we push ourselves further than we are comfortable because we believe when outside our comfort zone that’s when the magic happens. We have one singular mission: we are trying to bring joy to billions of fans around the world. We think this gets us closer to that goal.”

Mary Buckley, Executive Director of IDA Ireland said “Riot Games decision to expand its global footprint to include a new Remote Production Broadcast Centre (RBC) in Dublin marks Ireland’s entry into an exciting new and developing sector and illustrates confidence in Ireland to deliver on its esports capabilities globally. It’s also a strong endorsement of our talented workforce. I welcome Riot Games ongoing commitment to Ireland and wish them every success with their new RBC Centre.”

Why Should You Make a Corporate Video for a New Product Launch?

There are over 16,700 businesses in Melbourne. If you’ve ever launched a new product, regardless of whether it was in the brick-and-mortar or virtual world, then you know that there are always certain things that need to be prepared before the launch date.

In this case, however, it’s not only about preparing the necessary materials for your product but also about how to present them should you choose to make a corporate video. According to Hedge Hogs Vs Foxes in Dublin, having a professional eye-catching corporate video produced for your new product launch is one of the most effective ways of marketing it.

A corporate video is a short film that explains what a business does and who they are while establishing their credibility in front of their target market audience. It may include footage from past events, images of current promotions and products, and interviews with influential people.

The whole idea behind making a video for your product launch is to better engage your target market with your business, which is why the content must be informative and entertaining at the same time.

So, how can a corporate video help you in a product launch? Here are some ideas.

Establish Authority

When you have a website or a blog, chances are you also have competitors who do so. While having several followers for your social media sites shows credibility in itself, nothing beats an authoritative source.

By this, we mean someone who has been around for quite some time and has already proven to be trustworthy when it comes to their product and when it comes to the advice they give out. To better establish yourself as such your industry, one good idea is to include something like this in your corporate video: “Since 2010, we have helped over 5,000 businesses just like yours grow and succeed through the use of our product. Here’s why you can trust us too.”

Establish Your Brand’s Personality

Even if you’re the only business operating in your industry, chances are other companies deal with what you do as well. As such, it’d be best that you create a personality that will set you apart from them all.

By creating an entertaining yet sensible video for your launch date, potential clients can learn more about who you are even before they decide to engage with whatever product or service you offer. This way, they decide to make a purchase. All they need to do is look for you on social media or search your website.

Gain Trust

It’s safe to say that not everyone is easily convinced with just anything, whether it comes from a new product launch video or an ad on TV. As such, one way for them to know if they can place their trust in you is by becoming aware of some facts about your business.

You can incorporate this into your video by showing some statistics about how many clients you currently have and what kind of impact these people had when they bought from you.

Create Content

Over 37% of Melbourne’s population is employed in corporate jobs. Who says making a video means that it has to be complicated?

If you succeeded in getting the attention of your target market, then it means that it was simple enough so they can easily understand what you want to say. At the same time, if they are entertained, their brains will be stimulated and help them memorise what you said in your video.

Be Creative

You’ve noticed by now that there’s a fragile line when it comes to having fun and “advertising” things in a way that may come off as desperate or fake.

Wrapping Up

It’s best that before making any product launch videos for yourself, you do some introspection first to know if what you’re about to present is something people will enjoy watching. After all, no one would want to buy from someone who made them uncomfortable.

Tech Review – Tranya T20 true wireless

The Tranya T20 are the latest on offer from the company that come in a bean shape look with a glossy finish and look rather well and a bit different to the norm you could say, they fit well and are comfortable and would suit any person not looking to spend a huge amount of money on earbuds and get quality sound at the same time.

These have a trick up their sleeve and that is two separate modes which is normal and Bass Boost which there is a notable difference in sound which is great as with many earbuds some mode changes that are labelled as good do not give the same punch as these do.

Controls work really well despite the up to 5 times to change modes and the taps go down from there using 4 and 3 taps to enact commands this you will see in our video review below and it was slightly annoying however they work which is important and worked every time during my testing.

Volume is decent to and in general overall a good listening experience with highs lows and mids fine and certainly nice bass thrown in here for the mix. For the most as a first pair of earbuds or just a second pair people will enjoy these overall and are ideal for gaming watching videos netflix and listening to any music.

Battery life is decent too with 8 hours on a single charge depending on volume though this may be around 7 in total, you get USB-C fast charging and these are also IPX7 rated, they do not work on their own though ie one charging and one in the ear but this is the last thing that would be bothering me for the price here.

Tech Review – Quntis 15W Wireless Charging Pad-With 20W Power Adapter

As we know Apple are very generous when you buy a new iPhone and you get no charging brick as they call it inside and then when you go to buy one they are expensive and do not offer near the power other brands offer you for half the price, luckily enough third party sellers can save the day with better cheaper alternatives and Quntis have just dropped a new option for your iPhone.

This is a simple job and does more than magsafe, it also offers a build in kickstand to mount your device and you can charge and still use your phone for consuming media and also the magnet is stronger, I have the magsafe charger and can confirm it is stronger than the one Apple sell. You can also hold the device with the charging plate on too for added security whilst holding it and overall it makes for a nice addition to your accessory collection for the new iPhone and compatible models..

Quntis 15W Wireless Charging Pad-With 20W Power Adapter,
  • Quntis wireless charger is specially developed for iPhone 13 and 12, this 15W wireless magnetic charger has 38 high-strength magnets to strongly absorb to the iPhone 12, so it will be able to attract and charge. Compared with the previous wireless magnetic charger, it optimizes the problem of insufficient magnetic attraction. It can have stronger suction power, and the phone will not slip off easily when charging.
  • 20W Power Adapter: To solve the problems of mismatch and unsafe charging caused by non-standard plugs in the past, the magnetic wireless charger is now equipped with a matching 20W power adapter. In addition to solving your one-stop purchase problem, this power adapter can also be used with the original cable, which can not only achieve the 20W fast charging effect, but also greatly enhances the safety.

#CyberSecMonth 2021 – Four common mistakes people make online that could put their money at risk #ThinkB4UClick

A recent study by Uswitch found that Brits are spending a whopping 384 minutes (6.4 hours) using the internet every day, yet even those who are ‘tech savvy’ are unaware of the extent to which their browsing and social media activity is tracked. Not only is this intrusive, extensive cross-platform tracking also makes it easier for cyber criminals to access personal information.

While most people are aware that there are risks associated with browsing the web, many are unaware of how their data is used, and of the severity of those associated risks.

Tom Gaffney, Security Consultant at F-Secure flags four common mistakes that even tech savvy people are making online, and provides top tips on how they can keep themselves safe.

Mistake 1: Using one browser for everything.

Tip: Most people use only one browser, whether that’s Chrome, Firefox or Safari etc, for all their online activity. However, Tom recommends using at least two – one for work and online banking and one for personal use – as not only will this be beneficial to privacy and security, but it will also give you separation in what you’re browsing and what you’re doing.

“Using separate browsers for casual browsing vs. ‘serious stuff’ like accessing online banking hugely minimises the risk of hackers getting to those sensitive accounts,” says Tom, “I personally never use the same browser to read news articles and browse social media as I would for online banking; casual browsing is generally how vulnerability issues arise — we click links that pique our interest without a second thought and hackers know this. Having a dedicated ‘serious’ browser enables you to shift your mindset into protection mode, you’re less likely to make risky decisions which could compromise your accounts when using your “serious-stuff browser”.”

Mistake 2: Ignoring important security settings

Tip: Despite spending more time with their apps and web-browser, most of us are unaware of the security and privacy settings. We should all spend just a few minutes to check and configure security settings within our browser to enable safer internet surfing. Regardless of which browser you use (Internet Explorer, Safari, Chrome or Firefox), each gives you options to disable cookies and block security risks such as malware that can sneak in through infected pop-ups, plug-ins and extensions, compromising your privacy.

Default browser settings leave your data exposed so at a minimum Tom advises you should:

  • Disable pop-ups and redirections as cyber criminals could use these to spread malicious software.
  • Don’t allow automatic downloads as these could contain malware and viruses. Ask to be prompted before downloading anything.
  • Set your browser to ask permission before accessing your location, camera and microphone.
  • Turn on “Send a do not track request” to help prevent websites from tracking you
  • Think carefully before allowing browsers to save passwords as although it’s convenient it creates a security risk. Laptops and mobiles can fall into the wrong hands, it doesn’t take much for a hacker to find the stored password information.

Mistake 3: Not clearing cookies in your browser

Tip: Cookie banners pop-up every time we visit a website and most of us will click ‘accept’ without thinking. Cookies are small files that websites send to your device that the sites then use to monitor you and remember certain information about you i.e. what’s in your shopping cart, or your login information. Basically, cookies track you as you browse.

There are several reasons why Tom recommends deleting cookies such as:

  • Over time you could accumulate a lot of cookies which will slow your browser down
  • Cookies store your personal information and enable websites to track and follow you around the web, developing a profile of your online habits. In doing so they build a mosaic which maps your interests, identity, age, location, religious beliefs and even sexual identity. While this is used for providing you with targeted ads, this data is sold between organizations and has a more insidious target of knowing everything about you.

“Most browsers make it straightforward to view and delete cookies,” says Tom, “simply go to browser settings and look for the privacy or security section. It’s also worth noting that all browsers have a setting which allows you to browse the web anonymously, which you should have on by default. This will ensure that less of your personal information is shared with data brokers.”

Mistake 4: Not using a VPN

Tip: Even the most secure browser with the most advanced settings can’t always keep your browsing activities safe or private which is why you should consider a VPN such as F-Secure FREEDOME.

“VPNs offer you complete privacy for your activities online,” says Tom, “no one will be able to track you or see what you are doing, not even your Internet Service Provider. They can block harmful websites and hacking attempts, encrypt data to protect your real IP address and online traffic and protect you even when you’re using public Wi-Fi.”

Last word: Overall, it’s important that you exercise common sense when using the internet. Many organizations have made the web a simpler place to surf and shop with one-click purchasing. Sometimes we actually need to slow down, especially when shopping, banking or paying bills to allow our minds to engage critically.  At the very least, make sure you update your browser regularly as using old software can provide a way for hackers to break into networks. Updates will address any security issues and help your browser run better.

Tech Review – Garmin campervan Sat-Nav review

I have been testing this piece of kit out for a few weeks now and one thing people say is this not redundant and I do get their point with our mobile phones doing everything from weather to music calls and traffic but this is on a smaller scale and phones are not specifically designed for the aforementioned.

Garmin are well known in the industry and also have dash cams and smartwatches too some of which we have reviewed in the past but today we take a closer look at the Campervan Sat-Nav, we also have a real hands on look at the unit in our video review below so you get some context over stock image reviews. We show you the features, the unit in operation and more so you get to get a better idea of what exactly you get from the product.

Build and set up

Basically it is a big tablet and it is a well built one at that however it can be placed nicely in your window or where suits you best and it is a simply suction cup and cable to get things going and you are good to go, you might be better off walking through the menu first to change any settings that suit your need though. You should also download the Garmin Drivesmart app to get extra features, I did once snub the app but it has much improved and now includes really cool weather features too, live traffic and much more

The display is bright and clear and one thing I love is the voice navigation it is pleasing which some might find odd but I love it it is clear loud and not really robotic like some systems are. You can also make calls on this and again clear and concise.

Who is this for

It is aimed at those who like camping which has seen a huge rise in recent times but anyone can use it including van drivers that want that bit more and you can see yourself what is on offer via the menu and if like me you like hotels, food and the likes there is a tripdavisor suggestion tool along with many others which you can select from to suit your own personal requirements. Having said all that this can be used by anyone in fairness and it is a nice piece of kit to have.

Features

The Campervan Sat-Nav has many features on board which basically covers you all round, you have Bluetooth, WiFi big clear screen loud clear navigation prompts, warnings for your speed which is vital for how things work today with the fish in a barrel approach by the speed detection vans and pop up windows for turns where applicable to give you a better view of the lanes you might be approaching, again all this is seen in the video review..

Price

This might put some off for a standalone kit, even for me I was kind of leaning the same direction but the pros outweigh the cons as you keep your phone to yourself and you have everything else at your fingertips here on a big screen and the feature I love most asides the navigation is the weather feature which is really cool.. The price of this unit will set you back 299 euros

Future Planet – World’s first AI platform to enable businesses combat climate change challenges

IRELAND PIONEERING THE WAY WITH THE WORLD’S FIRST AI PLATFORM TO ENABLE BUSINESSES COMBAT CLIMATE CHANGE CHALLENGES

Future Planet, an Irish-developed Artificial Intelligence (AI) based sustainability transformation platform that is a world first in enabling businesses to map and deliver their sustainability ambitions, has been launched.

Created by software entrepreneur, Donal Daly and sustainability supply chain expert, Ingrid De Doncker, Future Planet is the only software solution of this kind on the market. The cloud-based platform maps out, and builds, a company’s sustainability journey, defining target outcomes and enabling an actionable plan. Traditionally, using a sustainability consultancy firm takes on average six weeks for in-depth analysis. Using Future Planet will reduce this to less than a day — saving time and resources.

The team have also launched a free personal carbon footprint app, available on IOS and Android, for the general public and employees working from home to assess their own CO2 emissions. This will mean companies can include their team’s homeworking in their emissions calculations.

With the country’s first carbon budget due to be announced and the gathering of the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26), major changes are imminent to everyday lives to bring climate change under control. Ireland has made a commitment to reach zero carbon emissions by 2050 and a 51% reduction by 2030. This requires a reduction of at least 7% per annum.

Future Planet founder Donal Daly said: “Businesses have a crucial role in meeting the net-zero target by reducing their own emissions. Almost 70 of Ireland’s largest companies have publicly signed The Low Carbon Pledge, committing to recording and reducing their carbon footprint. This is an encouraging start, but more need to get onboard. Tighter mandatory restrictions for businesses on emissions are inevitable. If not outlined at the upcoming COP26, they will be developed in the near future.

“The stakes are real for companies. Outside of climate change being a collective crisis for humankind, failure to have carbon targets in place can impact access to capital, the ability to attract new investors, retain customer loyalty and also affect attracting top talent. However, the challenge for many businesses is that they see corporate climate action as being both costly and complicated. Our mission is to be part of the solution, making it easier for companies to build a clear roadmap that will help them define and achieve their sustainability targets while delivering their commercial goals.”

The AI software has synthesised 30 main sustainability challenges that companies face into an easily understood structure. It incorporates knowledge relating to the main reference bodies and ratings agencies such as Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), and other key global standards.

Future Planet’s Head of Research and Innovation Ingrid De Doncker added: “The software dramatically removes barriers for responsible business leaders who are trying to deliver sustainability projects but who struggle because of a lack of time or knowledge. Through assessment, individual journeys, and reporting, the platform discovers a company’s sustainability maturity, calculates a score, and builds an instant report to create a transformation plan. This lets all stakeholders know the actions they need to take to improve and meet their targets.”

Speaking on the launch of Future Planet, Norman Crowley, CEO of Cool Planet Group said: “Climate change is the critical challenge for our planet, we know that. For more than a decade we have been helping companies reduce their emissions, and we are really excited about what Future Planet brings to help solve that problem. The approach is unique, and recognises that reducing emissions doesn’t necessarily mean reducing profits. In fact it shows that the opposite can be true by using AI to help a business grow while reducing its impact on the planet.”
