Genetically modified bacteria can convert organic matter into methane gas which we can use for industrial purposes. Biofuel is an excellent alternative to fossil fuels and can help industries lower the cost of production. 

Another biotech application is the production of microbes that can convert plants into biodegradable plastics. Biotech has also played its part in the improvement of the textile industry. Some of its applications are:

4. Environmental Biotech

Industrialization has harmed our environment over the years. We cannot reverse the damage done by fossil fuel emissions and industrial waste unless we develop proper processes to overcome the environmental problems. Biotech is enabling us to produce products that can help our environment. 

A leading example of using biotech to conserve the environment is the development of bioremediation. Scientists utilized the catabolic properties of microorganisms through bioremediation to purify contaminated soil and water. 

Bioremediation of soil and water through biotech is done in three processes:

  • Degradification
  • Detoxification
  • Restoration

Biotech has also enabled us to purify the gases in the environment. Microbes allow us to remove the toxins from the emission sites of industrial plants that can harm the environment. Biotech can also be used to keep the ocean clean by removing the impurities from industrial effluents released into the ocean.

 

5. Forensics and Biotech

Forensic science plays a vital role in maintaining law and order in society. With the adoption of advanced methods by criminals to carry out illegal activities, law enforcement agencies now rely on advanced solutions like biotech processes to identify criminals. 

Forensic experts could only rely on serology and the study of fluids in the past. But biotech is now providing forensics with advanced solutions that can help rapidly identify criminals in trials. 

For example, DNA forensics is a developing branch of biotech, which encompasses procedures like:

  • DNA profiling
  • DNA footprinting
  • DNA fingerprinting 

With PCR analysis, forensics can now extract information from small evidence items collected at the crime scene. 

6. Synthetic Biology

Biotech can help us produce desired types of cells from stem cells. With stem cell research techniques, biotech experts can develop stem cells in a lab setting or in vitro to speed up the production of body cells from stem cells. 

Ongoing stem cell research using biotech practices hints that we might be able to control the growth of stem cells through deterministic mechanisms. 

 

8. Tissue Nanotransfection

Tissue Nanotransfection is another promising application of biotech. In this approach, specific genetic codes are entered into skin cells. These codes can dictate the growth of skin cells and can help us produce different types of body cells efficiently.

What is the product about then

If you are into sports and fitness or just like being cooled down then this is for you, it might seem a bit cumbersome by its size but do not let that put you off, the headset is no bigger than an average pair of headphones only you let them rest on your neck, there is two controls on the device and that is is nothing complicated at all here.

a. Click the power button — turn on/gear 1 2 3/turn off the COOLIFY2.
b. Press the power button for 1.5S at any mode/gear — turn off the COOLIFY2.
c. Click the mode button– switch in between cooling mode and fan mode.

Build quality

The build is mainly plastic but robust it might feel a bit cumbersome for some folk but after using it you can forgive this as seen in video review below it has a glossy finish for the most part and has air outlets on both sides and breathing holes for the fans too.

Does it actually work

Yes in short it does you can heat up or cool down but the USP here is the cool factor with the pun intended you will not need ice a cold towel or a bucket of water with this on it works a treat and with the hot weather we had here I took advantage of this and brought it with me on a small break in the country and I often carry a small desk fan with me on my travels but did not this time around to give this a shot and it is a lifesaver if you are hot and not a huge fan of the heat which is me..Battery life is also good for 18 hours in fan mode 1, or 1.5 hours in cooling mode 3. The LED Screen shows the battery life and setting mode as you will see in the video review.

Can I recommend it.

That is an easy yes if you are into sports or a regular user of a fan and require cooling down, anyone can use it in fact, the ease of use factor is also important here with no app or connecting to your phone and so on, however perhaps the next variant might include a headphone option to sweeten the deal, some might think the price is a bit much but it is the convenience factor here of how the product is made and how simple it is to use yet alone the benefits of getting cool fast.

Tech Review – HiFiMan TWS 800 true wireless earbuds

HiFiMan is a brand that delivers high quality audio headphones and more and we can stand by that having tested some of their products, recently we checked out their Deva Pro headphones, having said that matching earbuds to headphones is not really fair and it is not yet possible to deliver the same experience just yet but we are heading that direction and the TWS 800 are not cheap either so how do they stand up to the competition? Build and design

These are probably one of the best built pair of earbuds so far this year and even in recent times I have tested these will last they look cool and are robust and this is where several asked how can I change tracks and so on with the build on the earbuds, turns outs they are a bit on the sensitive side even for the materials used here. they are solid and will last, enough said.

Controls

The controls as mentioned area bit on the sensitive side here but you do get the hang of them and consider the material it is a wonder how they work at all you have your usual tap 1,2 or 3 times to execute a command which we show you in the video review below, on putting them in the ears you might also be prone to doing something, mostly pausing the tracks but still they work well albeit sensitive you have got your pause/play skip/reverse tracks and volume control, you also have access to your voice assistant too which gives you all the basics.

Sound

There is no app here which lets them down and at this price point they should really have one as the sound is flat overall now this might suit some but for me at this price it does not, they are loud enough and punchy with some bass thrown in, highs lows and mids are present with some direction I found them very centred and they are actually good listening to audio books and the likes, ie voices, it is crisp and clear and true to life like if you will,but the sound could have been better with an amp built in and I am sure an app will fix that but that is just my ears and everyone else is different.

Overall though I still come back to these, like I said everyone’s ears are different but you tend to find quirks with certain music, I did try the usual test loop I do which is all genres and so on and they just have something about them be it their looks and that charging case which is really cool they still have a decent sound in general but certainly not for the audiophile this time around.

Non-Fungible Motors: You Can Now Get An NFT Of Your Car, So You Can Love It Long After It’s Gone

A new service has been launched by Scrap Car Comparison that gives car lovers the opportunity to get their hands on a one of a kind NFT of their prized motor, so they have the ultimate keepsake of their car which will last for eternity.

Partnering with NFT artist Amy Kilner to make the service possible, the UK-based scrap comparison company has opened up the opportunity to give anyone who’s said goodbye to their beloved car the chance to have it immortalised on the blockchain. On Earth Day, we can imagine this future and work towards realising it. As we reflect on the current environmental challenges facing our planet, data and technology have a crucial part to play in tackling climate change.

Current Challenges

By 2050, the United Nations predicts that 68% of the world’s population will be concentrated in urban centres, as compared with 54% in 2014 and 30% in 1950[1]. Such a rapid shift in the rural-urban population distribution, along with a rise in information and communication technology (ICT), is driving the social and economic transformation of cities. To continue to flourish, cities will need to address and manage population growth, safety, traffic, pollution, commerce and economic growth in a sustainable way.

As local authorities, government agencies, and urban planners set out to digitally transform urban landscapes and systems to address these challenges, technology innovations and data should be the driving force behind their vision.

Sustainable Digital Cities

Data will be central in our drive towards more sustainable cities, by revolutionising the way cities are managed – allowing us to use resources more efficiently. Thanks to hybrid cloud capabilities, IoT sensors, and edge computing, we can now analyse data in real-time and take immediate actions.

Recent studies suggest that cities are responsible for up to 72% of global greenhouse gas emissions[2], with transport and buildings being among the largest contributors. Thanks to the Internet of Things (IoT), city and police force officials are now adopting smart traffic management with intelligent traffic lights that can optimise traffic flows to save drivers’ time and reduce CO2 emissions.

Managing air pollution can be achieved with smart beacons in real-time. These can have health as well as sustainability benefits as they could be used to alert people with asthma to dangerous levels of pollution.

Today’s cities produce vast amounts of data. As 5G advances, edge computing will leap into action transforming what is possible, as data grows exponentially. The deployment of edge computing will for example reduce the flow of unnecessary data which will cut down on resources used to cool storage units and enable more sustainable data management.

In the context of commercial developments within our cities, AI is the tool of choice for operators to help drive energy efficiency in most factories and production facilities. By forecasting energy demand and consumption and scheduling power-intensive tasks accordingly, this solution is driving the sustainable factories of the future.

As revealed live during this year’s Meta Quest Gaming Showcase, developer Digital Lode and publisher Tripwire Presents are excited to announce Espire 2, the sequel to the award-winning first-person stealth action virtual reality (VR) title Espire 1: VR Operative. Scheduled to release in November 2022 for the Meta Quest 2 platform, Espire 2 combines the tactical precision of modern stealth titles with the unprecedented immersion of VR, further expanding upon the genre-defining experience of its critically acclaimed predecessor.
