Technology company with Cavan roots revolutionizing the processing and publication of data

A technology company based in the Ormeau Baths in Belfast, and founded by a brother and sister team from Cavan, is revolutionising the processing and publishing of data.

The Sensible Code Company, founded by Aidan and Áine McGuire from Kilnaleck, Co Cavan, has developed Cantabular while working with the Office for National Statistics (ONS) in the UK over the last two years.

At the end of March, ONS released its ‘create a custom dataset’ product, as part of its publication of Census 2021 statistics for England and Wales.  The product has enabled the ONS to put the power in the hands of data users to find and download multiple combinations of data they are most interested in, a move which the ONS described as ‘a unique innovation for official statistics’*, allowing the release of census statistics ‘far more quickly than ever before.’

The Sensible Code Company also worked with the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA), on a flexible table builder for the 2021 Northern Ireland census results, using Cantabular. When it was launched in June, the Director of Census & Social Statistics at NISRA Dr David Marshall, said it marked a ‘watershed moment’ for the census in Northern Ireland. “The release of the Census 2021 Flexible Table Builder marks a watershed moment for the census in Northern Ireland. This is the first time the end-user can build their own tables online. This is a positive step forward from the old ways of publishing pre-defined tables. This has been made possible with the use of software developed here in Belfast and NISRA is excited to welcome this new development,” he said in a tweet.

Cantabular is modernising and automating the processing and publication of data because it is fast, safe and reliable; its high speed algorithms collapse the time needed to create tables of data, meaning that data can be published twice as quickly as before; its automated privacy processes provide a high level of control of data, making the sharing of data easier and safer; and its easy-to-use interface and automated systems increase reliability, reduce errors and improve efficiency.

Áine McGuire, the CEO of The Sensible Code Company said: “We are delighted to have collaborated with the ONS and NISRA on the publication of Census data and we are excited about the impact that the Cantabular software will continue to have. We see Cantabular as a force for public good because it modernises the processing and publication of data – making it fast, safe and reliable. Tech Review – Soundpeats Engine 4 earbuds

The Soundpeats Engine 4 earbuds are one of the latest on offer form the brand and come with a new look and design which is really nice, these style of earbuds are not the top of my list however I prefer stems but it is how they sound is what can make you overlook at times and these stood out with my locals asking about them when out testing over the last few weeks..

 

The App

The App as seen above has plenty of features yet again and gives you control on how your earbuds sound however the controls are fixed which is fine and simple to use, the earbuds can be used on their own too so either side can be used whilst the other one is left to charge which is quite handy. I would also advise to complete the adaptive EQ test for the best results and ensure you have got the right tips and are happy with the fit. The controls work really well on these too which is an additional bonus due to the large surface area at hand so for those with big fingers like me it is a bonus. One small downside is the controls are fixed however they are fine as is and pretty much as standard settings on earbuds today. These sound a bit on the brighter side than what I like however with their app they can be changed to suit your needs and their app once again is decent and allows you to take some control over the audio experience.

Overall a different shape of earbud to my liking but sounds good, the fit or style might not suit everyone but they deliver again on the sound aspect with decent battery life and the look of the earbuds and case stands out and will be ideal for first time buyers of earbuds from the company or just looking for something new to try out as this brand has been very consistent over the years for us they offer a wide range of earbuds for all pockets and all styles.

Tech Review – ANCwear ANC-107 smartwatch

If you are in the market for a super affordable smartwatch well here it is, coming in at around 30 euros this does all the fitness stuff you need in an oversaturated market but that this price point if offer a bit more than others out there and is kept simple and comes with an an app to keep track of what you do, there is lots of options out there and we have tried many over the last year or two coming in on the sub 100 euro point, this watch is for someone who wants simplicity and does not want their watch pinging all day long with constant messages as you are limited with this one as you will see below and in the video review.

The watch itself is robust and IP68 rated so you can go pretty much anywhere with it and gather the data you require, it also has sleep tracking whilst not for me as I never wear a watch in bed but it is there. It has all more than enough sports to pick from and a superb battery life and one of the best I have had in terms of battery usage over the last few I have reviewed.

You can control your camera shutter and music from the watch and also get functionality with GPS exercises too and this will come in quite handy for most into their fitness, notifications are plain and simple and  you cant reply to them and also calls cant be taken on this watch but answered or rejected from the watch screen itself, you also get a large array of watch faces to pick from too so there is something for everyone here to have it look their way and some of them are really nice and take on the Apple watch, this works both on Android and iOS and is simple to set up and use, check out the video below for more.

Tech Review – ASUS Zenfone 10

One might recall when compact devices where a thing any Sony once ruled the roost here and today it is a debatable topic which is well and good and yet again the iPhone seems to get dragged in somehow and that being the mini which apparently is not popular today but I disagree here and this is coming from a person who preferred bigger phones and has been using them for many years, now however I like the smaller phone now as a daily driver which has one obvious bugbear having the smaller screen however I can now live with this and the ASUS Zenfone 10 has been a super solid phone to use the last while and it could be phone of the year.

Being a compact device one would think it has cut corners but not here even with the battery being smaller the optimisation of the phone is excellent yielding an easy day and half for me being a power user but for the average person it is a two day or more phone, the next main thing is the screen which is glorious with an AMOLED panel with a 5.9 inch size and can go up to the much pointless tech speak of 144 Hz in gaming and 120 Hz refresh rate standard and has 800 nits with a peak 1,100 nit and makes for fine outdoor reading.

Here for some though is the screen size issue for those who want to consume media and for me in all fairness it is not that bad on a smaller screen and if I want to go large I just stick on my projector at home I would not be one to consume media much on the go as it would be in a hotel for example and I would cast or use another product or means to do so from my phone but overall the experience is crisp and clean with excellent sounding speakers thrown into the mix.

The build quality of the device was solid for me and perfect in the had which was mentioned in the unboxing video, my review device colour was bland but it comes in more eye catching colours which I really like and we have polycarbonate materials here which are solid and eco friendly.

When it comes to getting the job done be it gaming social media emails and all that kind of stuff in which I have other apps and some heavy hitters this phone sailed through with no problems at all it performed better than my Pixel 7a and iPhone 14 pro at most tasks and this is an important factor for many if like me use their phone daily and power user, this device just done it simply and effortlessly.

Unboxing and Walkthrough 

The cameras are powerful although this is not the main feature I tend to look for in a phone they all claim to be great but just wait and see the comparison to another review device I have in claiming all the bells ans whistles and the camera alone was poor never mind the performance but the camera and video on this device is up there with the other top tier devices out there and in some cases better, this is subjective mind you but from testing many phones over the years and buying multiple other devices this phone packs a punch in the day and night with both video and camera shots and there is samples below taken with this device and you can be the judge, as in all phone reviews I never claim to be the camera expert or portray myself as one but I do know good results when I see them and here I was impressed overall and remember we can shoot up to 8k on this device.

Battery power is excellent as mentioned above and will see most through a solid days work my workload would be heavier than most and I would be more demanding with some gaming but not as much as I would previously would through at a phone in recent years I am gone beyond that gaming stage now being honest but I do have several games there for travel or toilet purposes when bored.. We have wireless charging of course and this comes in at 30 watt fast charging and 15 wirelessly charging.

Overall this is a little powerhouse of a phone and I enjoy it immensely and it does everything it says on the tin and it is also a phone that delivers results on cameras and performance it might be on the smaller size for some but get over that caveat and we have a contender for phone of the year though again when it comes to price this might be another caveat for some and like that you can’t please everyone can you..

Powerful, steadfast illumination

At peak brightness, G200 offers: 9460 Lux (without reflector); 61500 Lux with ZHIYUN’s standard reflector (at 1m). In MAX Extreme mode it offers: 13800 Lux (1m, without standard reflector) 85800 Lux (1m, with ZHIYUN standard reflector). CCT (colour correlated temperature) range is excellent: 2700K – 6500K. A colour rendering index (CRI) of ≥95 and a television light consistency index (TLCI) of ≥97 make for accurate rendition of the subject’s colours.

Three lighting modes = exciting visual experiences 

In normal mode, you can turn on the light and adjust the brightness to your desired level. Live mode automatically turns on as soon as it’s powered on. Music mode syncs your lighting with music beats to create a dynamic and immersive experience for your audience.

Accessories and apps for full creative control

The G200 comes with a stand with 180° flexibility: the stand’s 180° adjustable arm and full-range rotation capabilities, making it easy to adapt to any setting. The stand has a universal lighting umbrella slot for added convenience. The G200 is compatible with the Bowens mount accessories by ZHIYUN and other Bowens accessories. In addition, ZHIYUN’s ZY Vega app: supports Bluetooth Mesh networking, allowing for remote dimming and quick switching between presets, allowing for professional lighting results on any film set or studio.
