From last-minute homework assignments to framing your favorite memories, having a printer at your fingertips is like having a personal creative hub. Don’t miss the chance to enhance your home life with the perfect printer this Black Friday.

Okay, so Black Friday’s like a big tech treasure hunt. Check out the popular brands and models to find the best Black Friday printer deals. Look for what you need, like good quality printing or wireless features.

When is Black Friday 2023?

Black Friday 2023 is on November 24th, a big shopping day after Thanksgiving. But here’s the cool part—it’s not just about that one day. The deals start in early November, making it a shopping season.

So, if you’re eyeing printer deals, start checking around a week before the big day on November 24th. It’s like a head start to catch the best discounts!

What to Think About When Choosing a Home Printer

When picking a printer for your home, there are a few essential things to think about:

Purpose:

Figure out why you need a printer. Is it for everyday documents, high-quality photos, or a bit of both? Different printers are good at different things.

Type:

There are inkjet and laser printers. Inkjets are great for photos, while lasers are speedy and efficient for documents. Choose based on what you’ll print more.

Features:

Check if the printer has extra features you might need, like wireless printing, scanning, or copying. Some can even print from your phone or tablet.

Cost:

Consider the printer price and the cost of ink or toner. Sometimes, a cheaper printer becomes more expensive in the long run.

Size:

Make sure the printer fits in your space. Printers come in various sizes, so find one that suits your home setup.

Countdown to Black Friday:

As we eagerly anticipate the Black Friday frenzy, here are some simple tips to help you snag the best printer deals:

  • Early Birds Catch the Deals:

Keep an eye on pre-Black Friday sales. Some stores spill the beans early, giving you a head start on planning your printer purchase.

  • Virtual Window Shopping:

Dive into online retailers and subscribe to newsletters. This virtual window shopping helps you stay in the loop about exclusive deals and discounts.

  • Comparison is Key:

Become a pro at comparing prices. Check different online and offline stores to ensure you’re getting the best bang for your buck. Comparison websites can be your secret weapon.

  • Set a Budget, Stick to It:

While the excitement of Black Friday can be contagious, set a budget for your printer purchase. This ensures you stay focused and helps you focus on the best deals within your price range.

  • Act Fast, Embrace FOMO:

Black Friday waits for no one. If you spot a deal that fits your criteria, act fast. Embrace the fear of missing out (FOMO) and secure that printer before it’s gone.

In choosing a home printer, balance is key. Consider your needs, whether it’s for documents or vibrant photos. Look at features that make life easier, but stay mindful of costs. By finding the right fit, your home printer becomes a reliable sidekick, effortlessly turning your ideas into tangible prints. Happy printing!

Tech Review – INSTAX Pal from FUJIFILM

The INSTAX Pal from FUJIFILM is the latest new gadget on offer and has been a huge hit in my house and with friends that have seen it, how it works is also really great and simple to use and you can connect to compatible printers from the brand too, not only that it also comes with a brand new app which is again simple to use and we go through this in full in the video review below which gives you an insight if you have not yet pulled the trigger on this tiny little camera which should be a gift on your Christmas list this year for sure.

Size is of the importance here and no you do not need to carry a printer with you unless you want to hand out snaps there and then which I guess has been the brands main points over the last few years since they were introduced, for me it is all about the size of the INSTAX cam which is tiny and mega portable and can be used remotely by your phone too via the app or use the shutter key on the rear which you can pre-record the shutter sounds if you wish to do so and you should sure why not the feature is there so avail of it and surprise the folks the other end of the camera.

Note compatible INSTAX – INSTAX mini LinkINSTAX mini Link2INSTAX SQUARE Link and  INSTAX Link WIDE smartphone printers.

The camera itself has simple functionality which is great to use, there is two apps you can use or just print directly from the Pal camera, you have main shutter button and you have a switch on the bottom showing F and L being Fun and Link you can also tilt the printer to change modes if you wish, we show you all this in the video review below. You can also add storage via micro SD card or store locally.

With the apps you can get super creative and create slides and videos add text, colour, design and much more which is what I like most here and it does more than just print images, this has been present before so if you are familiar with these cameras you know the story if you are creative you can get creative with what is on offer, again see the video and samples if you are not familiar with the options at your fingertips here.

I am by no means a professional photographer nor ever claimed to be but the camera takes nice pictures which you will see on your smartphone the prints may not reflect this at all times but it is best used in brighter scenarios there is also a flash on the PAl camera which helps the situation though and in short it is about fun here and simplicity and most importantly having a photo there and then in your hand as I always say with INSTAX printers and cameras, as mentioned you don’t need to carry the printer as the images taken will transfer across anyway you can save them for later on though after being out testing it is best to have it with you and have prints at the ready be it for family or friends in the office or at home.

Tech Review – Nelko Bluetooth Thermal Printer PL70e Shipping/Label Printer

There is no shortage of printers out there however most are big and cumbersome and can be challenging for some with the tech packed into some of them these days. This printer however is small neat and portable meaning you can bring it with you if required and can be moved from room to room.

The build quality is also good and it is simple to use and you can use your mobile phone too if you wish which is my preferred method for doing labels and printing items from. Over the years I have been using HP printers and one of the most popular ones being the HP Deskjet 2720e and serves me well and again I print off material via my smartphones as this is where I print all my docs from and always have so the same will apply to this printer but it works on all platforms and is more aimed at shipping labels but you can print of other things is you wish to do so which makes it handy.

Set up takes a few mins and you are good to go, we will show the app and how it works in the video review below but once set up it can print anything on your phone if you wish to do so, it is super fast in comparison to other printers I have used in the pat including the current one and there is plenty of templates and settings at your fingertips to get done what needs doing.

Overall this is a really great product if you are in need of shipping labels fast or you have a business that requires labels printed regularly, this can also save you time and money in the long run and is a worthy investment and not expensive to purchase it will also work with regular shipping labels you can but at any stationary stores. Best of all no ink is required.

Five worthwhile 3D printer projects

When you’re stuck at home and boredom sets in, it might be time to put your 3D printer to some use. In fact, many people opt for that exact creative option and search for a number of intriguing 3D printing ideas. Given the wealth of options available through this technology, though, it can be a tad overwhelming.

There are certainly many routes you can go down when assessing the different types of printer projects many 3D printers tend to opt for. For example, sports fans might aim to replicate the ball in their particular sport or even try to recreate their beloved teams’ badge. Additionally, gaming fans might try to produce a Pokemon-themed print or a character from their favourite Playtech casino games. Then, for other people, a food-themed print might be a preference, alongside something work-related. Essentially, the options are endless; it’s just about finding a way to make this innovative technology work for you.

One thing that is for certain, though, is that you shouldn’t be afraid to get creative with a 3D printer project. People are creating works of art on a regular basis, perhaps in order to spruce up their home with the addition of some 3D-themed sculptures or to provide a cute toy for a loved one. Whatever your preference is, below is a look at five worthwhile 3D printer projects to dive into.

Exercise dumbbell

If you occasionally work out at home, then adding to your gym with your very own exercise dumbbell surely appeals, right? A tin can dumbbell, for example, is easy to make and will help you feel the burn in the process. There are many STL files you can download to create a dumbbell base, although a design by the Samuel Bernier Project is a favoured option for many.

Business cards

If you run your own business or you’re in need of some business cards for a particular reason, then creating your own with a 3D printer is an option worth exploring. Not only will people appreciate a personal touch but, similar to these bike business cards, they can look great, too. Creating a business card is fairly straightforward, it can enable your business to stand out from the crowd, and obviously help you spread the word.

Book accessories

If you’re partial to the odd good book then investing some time into a few handy accessories might appeal to you. From bookmarks to book holders, these fun and easy projects don’t take long but they’ll last a while. You might even be able to make a paperweight to hold down any magazines or any documents, too. The options are certainly extensive.

Wheelchair ramp

A fairly niche but hugely important product on the whole, particularly if you or any of your relatives are in a wheelchair, creating a small and portable wheelchair ramp is fairly straightforward and can come in extremely handy for people. All you need to do is download STL files of a simple ramp, then most solid 3D printers will be able to deliver the final product with ease. Once completed, a step in front of the shops or near your home can be easily navigated.

Shoe insole

Many people with foot issues or walkers who simply want to add more comfort ahead of a long hike opt for shoe insoles. Not only can they add an additional layer of comfort, but they also protect your feet and help assist you with your everyday adventures. You’ll need flexible material and it can take a while to nail your final design, but it’s certainly worthwhile.

Tech Review – Canon MAXIFY GX6050 printer

The Canon MAXIFY GX6050 is a high-volume inkjet printer for small office or home use. The design is sturdy, strong, and solid to feel without the potential of bits falling off or trays breaking,

This kit comes with a 3-in-1 refillable ink tank which is visible through the front display. This came with a colour 6.9cm LCD Tiltable  display allowing you to view the various settings or use the touch screen options.

Contents

  •         MAXIFY GX6050 Refillable MegaTank Inkjet Printer
  •         4 high-yield ink bottles (1x Black and 1 x C/M/Y)
  •         Power cord
  •         Setup CD-ROM (CD only for Windows)
  •         Manuals and other documents

Functions:   Wi-Fi, Ethernet, Print, Copy, Scan & Cloud

Ink

The kit comes with a  3-in-1 refillable ink tank with ink included in the box.

The ink supplied allows for  14,000 A4 pages from a full set of colour ink bottles or up to 6,000 pages from a black ink bottle, when Switching to Economy mode this can print up to 1.5 times more pages for even increased capacity.

To put this in perspective in terms of Ink used

The cost of an All-in-One Wireless Inkjet Printer in the region of  60 euros from a high street store had a  Multipack printer option of ink for approx 60 euros, this had a yield of print  180 Pages   colour & Black  – 180 Pages  as compared to the up to  18,000 pages available for the Canon MAXIFY GX6050

Note Prices are included for reference only to give a perspective  in terms of cost per page

Setup:

The setup is straightforward in following the user guide instructions. And downloading the relevant software, The QR looks positive but does very little in terms of saving time or efficiency as it only takes you to the website. A search is required for the model printer near and then downloaded for a Windows laptop or Android phone. This works as required and the use of the printer display option is very good. The software appeared slow and clunky which I suspect has been pulled from the legacy products.

Network connection

  •         iOS: Connecting the printer and a smartphone via Wi-Fi
  •         Android: Connecting the printer and a smartphone via Wi-Fi

Note, caution when accessing  this website to ensure typed correctly ( putting a dash in instead of a dot will give detrimental results and be linked to another site.

 Connecting to a Smartphone

If you are using multiple smartphones, perform these steps on each smartphone

Typically for an Android phone, the expectation would scan the QR code and then takes you to the play store, instead, this takes you to the Canon support website, where you have to manually enter the printer model and then go to the play store to download the app, ( this defeated the purpose of the QR code) given the impression the software works but old fashioned.

The user guide does give details about Using the Fax function. This model does not come with that option.

Warranty:  This is great to see a business printer with a 3-year warranty ensuring confidence in Canon on their product with expected high usage in terms of the number of pages it can print from a single refill.

Comparison of Canon models:

Conclusion

The Canon Maxify GX6050 is a printer with experience from Canon experience dating back to 1985 having the world’s first inkjet printer using Bubble Jet technology, this can be seen in the design and the key features required in terms of the basic you would expect and eco option and quiet mode.

This printer has one major advantage as compared to budget inkjet printers Its Low running cost and comes with four ink straight out of the box in terms of black ink can Print up to 6,000 pages (or 9,000 pages when printing in Economy Mode) from a single bottle or  14,000 colour pages from a full set of colour ink bottles. This can be improved even further with access to Economy mode, where you can print up to 1.5 times more pages.

Canon has placed a  Total Cost Of Ownership (TCO) Calculator  on their website to give value saving of 90% Average Savings On The Total Cost of Ownership vs top 10 laser and inkjet printers ( see https://www.canon.ie/printers/tco-calculator/ for a comparison)

The setup is straightforward but this is where Canon are using older technologies which can be seen from the software process and looking at the installation guides. The guide looks modern with QR codes from your phone or laptop, Unfortunately this is as far as it goes, Th QR code takes you to their website where you have to manually type in the model of your printer and download the Android app from the play store. For Windows, you have to choose a file and download the exe file and run. This process works and connects to the Wifi but felt old and sluggish. A CD is included and the mention of a fax machine on the installation again reinforces this outdated software view. (On a positive note, this model does not come with fax machine options which is an outdated technology )

The design in terms of the colour 6.9cm  LCD Tiltable Touch screen display is a real positive in terms of getting into the printer setting, this was fast and responsive to touch. Printing via a laptop Android phone was easy while slower than some used before when Printing top quality.

Overall this is a solid printer in terms of build quality, with Key features, easy to use, excellent ink options, and a 3-in-1 refillable ink tank to provide years of cost-effective printing.

123ink.ie to bolster workforce with 25 new positions

Online printer supplies company 123ink.ie will hire 25 new people over the next 18 months as it continues to expand its business in Ireland.

The company, which has already doubled its workforce to 54 staff since 2021, will hire across sales, customer service, warehouse and content to meet the growing demand for its printer and office products.

123ink.ie has seen steady growth in its customer base and now boasts a total of almost 350,000 business and residential customers. The company, founded in 2006 by Frank Walsh, is now the largest supplier of ink, toner, and office supplies in Ireland.

123ink.ie’s recent rapid growth was driven by the Covid-induced shift towards remote work, as businesses needed to equip their home-based employees. This surge in demand prompted a significant expansion of its office and warehouse facilities in Finglas, Dublin, to over 23,000 square feet.

“We have achieved significant growth in our customer base, particularly in the past 5 years, allowing us to continue to invest in the business. Our planned new hires will be instrumental in helping us maintain our strong reputation and giving us the edge in a competitive market,” said Dave Doyle, commercial manager, 123ink.ie.

“Online ordering rapidly gained momentum during the pandemic, and as a result, many customers who were once hesitant to shop online embraced the convenience and efficiency of ecommerce platforms like 123ink.ie.

“We have proactively kept pace with this trend catering to the increasing demand for 3D printing in industries such as healthcare, education, and manufacturing, providing a seamless online experience to a wider audience.”

123ink.ie maintains the largest stock levels among all office supplies companies in the country, enabling it to provide unmatched delivery times, with over 90% of orders delivered the very next day.

As a part of the wider 123ink group of companies operating throughout Europe – including Benelux, Spain, Portugal, France, Greece, UK, Sweden, and Poland – it boasts significant buying power, which allows it to offer its products at highly competitive rates.

In addition, the company supplies a range of high-quality own-brand ink and toner cartridges that are among its biggest sellers due to their very competitive price point.

“Our vigorous commitment to customer service is at the forefront of our business model. It is at the heart of everything we do and we don’t just pay lip service to that. Given our exceptional service levels and keen pricing, every smart business in Ireland should really be considering buying from us,” added Doyle.

Tech Review – Instax Square Link smartphone printer

The FUJIFILM Instax Square link is another addition to their popular range of smartphone printers whereby users can actually hold a photograph in their hand not long after it has been taken, the days of sending off your camera prints are long gone it seems and is a nice throwback to how things were done back in the day only better with just a few seconds to wait to hold the photo in your hand, I have loads of these dotted around the house and some of them framed having tested many of their printers and love it.

The latest model is no different and has some new features like AR prints which you can see how it works in the video review and also a sample there in the header image it is really cool and can add some flair to the bog standard photos which this machine also does.

You can also share images to others via the Connect feature which can be then edited or kept as is which again is a handy tool for some, speaking of tools there is plenty inside the app to get creative as before which is fun and you can really add some cool effects to your image taken or what’s already on your smartphone and it is a clean easy to use UI and everyone should have no issues navigating the menu but we show you this also in the video below if you have not seen previous reviews.

The printer is portable and robust and can fit in a bag or big pocket and the battery life is decent too and makes it a great gadget to bring out to take photos and create real memories which you can then edit and more and have that photo in your hand rather than all over social media.

Key features of SQUARE Link include:

AR (Augmented Reality) Print:

SQUARE Link offers the ability to add Augmented Reality features to images, including special effects, text, images, background colours, doodles, and animations. A QR code printed on the photo unlocks the augmented reality content that users can then view on and around their print by simply scanning the code with their Smartphone to see the effects in action.

INSTAX Connect:

Using the SQUARE Link App, the INSTAX Connect feature allows users to share INSTAX images digitally by selecting a smartphone image, adding text content and/or effects, and sending it to any connected device (i.e. smartphone, tablet, etc.). Users can add text to their images and get text responses sent back directly on the image. Recipients who are also SQUARE Link users can even print a copy of the image with or without the text included.

Ability to customize your INSTAX prints with Image Modes, Design Frames, and Stickers

Like all products in the INSTAX Link Smartphone printer line-up, SQUARE Link includes a variety of frame templates, digital stickers, and print mode options that allow the image maker to creatively enhance the image.
