Redmi Note 14 Pro 5G Review

The Redmi Note 14 Pro 5G is a mid ranged priced phone but has the premium look to it and we have been testing it out the last few months and have to say it is a device I could use as a daily driver all year round.

Storage is now a factor in mobile phones and the base factor here starts at a rather generous 256GB where others fall behind and for those who like to take good photos and video the base offering here is more than welcome.

Specs are known now and listed below so we will not bore you with them but there is plenty to think about at this phones price which will vary by region and further making the point there is no need to spend over a thousand euro on a phone today.

The build quality is decent here and given it has a plastic back the body of the phone is premium with alloy rails and a 6.7 OLDED panel with a 120hz refresh rate and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 making it ideal for media consumption.

With the camera hump placed in the middle on the back it means no wobble on a flat desk though most of us will use cases it is good to know and in the camera array we have a 200mp main camera 8mp ulltra wide 2 mp macro and not forgetting the 20mp front camera. which the results of can be seen below with the photo and image gallery.

Redmi Note 14 pro 5G images and video samples

We have no wireless charging on board here which might be a deal breaker for some but 45w fast charging which is a fair speed at this price point and we also have a decent battery at 5110 mAh and one thing we do not see too often is an IR blaster up top which is great for those who use such an remote controls is one handy use for it.

The Redmi Not 14 Pro is power by a MediaTek Dimensity 7300-Ultra chip and for my personal daily use which is more than most is fine and I had no issues with the countless apps running and social media and emails etc all day long making it fine for multitasking.

The phone runs on Hyper OS which lies atop Android 14 so we are a bit behind here but for me there was no issues in my review period and zipped along fine with any task I threw at it but there is only two years of software updates available now which is much less than rivals however that can change and most people change their device within that time frame.

If you are on a budget within the big budget market there is plenty of options available and making the choice more difficult but after testing this phone out myself it is one to certainly think about. Check out the first look video where we take a deep dive into the phone and show you lots more.

2025 Irish Smartphone Usage Stats

Not so long ago, mobile phones were used only for communication. However, as these devices advanced, they started replacing everything from cameras to gaming consoles. Today, they’re an integral part of everyday life in Ireland. This is best highlighted in the most recent Irish smartphone usage stats. In this article, we look at the most important figures and what they mean long term.

More People are Gaming on Mobile

Remember the famous Nokia Snake game? While still considered a classic, the games available on smartphones are significantly better. From mini-games for passing time to full-fledged titles that have their console versions, mobile gaming has evolved into a serious segment of the gaming industry. Even online casinos are available on mobile, allowing you to play poker or spin slots with just a few taps, all that in fully optimized apps. With mobile gaming on the rise, it’s no wonder 55% of adults in Ireland now play games on mobile. This means that smartphones are now the most dominant platform in the country, with only between 37% and 40% playing on consoles.

5.05 Million People in Ireland Own a Smartphone

Today, it’s practically impossible to go about your day without a smartphone in your pocket. Whether you want to make a phone call, look up an address, or buy something, you can do it all from this little device. And people in Ireland are doing exactly this, with 5.05 million people in the country owning a smartphone. With the tech constantly evolving, it’s natural to expect this figure to go up even more in the coming years. According to projections, the number of smartphone users in Ireland will reach 5.22 million by 2029.

Smartphones Are the First Thing People See in the Morning

While it’s not surprising that almost everyone in Ireland now owns a smartphone, you may be left stunned by the fact that for 74%, it’s the first thing they see in the morning. These devices have already started to replace traditional alarm clocks, but their use continues even after the alarm goes on. They’re responding to messages, scrolling through social media, or reading the news. Not only this, but people in Ireland also use their smartphones right before going to bed. In fact, 54% say they stay awake longer than planned because they’re on their phones.

Android Users Dominate Ireland

The Android vs. iOS debate is always ongoing, and in Ireland, Android is clearly in the lead. Apple’s iPhone has a strong following, especially among younger generations, but Android dominates the overall market. According to the numbers from 2025, Android holds over 60% of the smartphone market in Ireland. iPhone holds over 38% while only about 0.25% goes to other, older operating systems. Android has a wide range of devices at different price points, making it more accessible, which is the main reason behind its popularity.

Samsung is the Most Popular Brand in Ireland

As mentioned above, Android has the edge over iOS in Ireland. But what about brands? According to the most recent numbers, Samsung is the leader. Out of the surveyed individuals, 42% said they own a Samsung phone, while 38% said they own an Apple phone. The number of Samsung users went up by 4% between 2023 and 2024, proving that the brand is constantly attracting new customers. With the Edge version of Samsung S25 having just arrived, this number may increase even more in the coming months. AI is one of the hottest tech trends at the moment, and the new version of the popular Samsung phone integrates it at almost every touchpoint.

3 Mobile Games You Should Play Every Day Instead Of Scrolling Mindlessly

It’s time to face the facts: you live in the doomscroll era of reality. You won’t like admitting this, but a huge chunk of your spare time is taken up by scrolling mindlessly through your phone. You’re not even doing anything; reel after reel starts up, and you barely take any information in. It’s a terrible habit, so why don’t you do something else when you’re on your phone that’s slightly more beneficial?

Mobile games come in many varieties, and a few of them are perfect for you to play every day instead of mindless scrolling. It’s no secret that playing games for just 10 minutes a day can provide countless benefits – so here are three you should try:

Strategy Games

A strategy game involves using brainpower to work out how to beat the game – or an opponent. You’re presented with something, and need to call upon your skill to work through it and progress further. Mahjong is one of the great strategy games, along with chess and checkers, all of which are available for free on your mobile phone.

These games are beneficial because they make you think. You’re not mindlessly tapping away at your screen or scrolling through social media posts; you’ve actually got your thinking cap on and have to be strategic. It can translate to excellent skill development in other areas of your life, too. Many managers like playing strategy games to help them practice things like problem-solving etc.

Word Games

You can’t go too wrong with word games. Any type of word game will do, as long as it encourages you to develop your vocabulary or think a bit deeply while you’re playing. To be honest, there are loads of NY Times word games like Wordle, Spelling Bee and Letter Boxed that are worth playing for a few minutes every day. You learn new words, but you also get your brain whirring – which makes this genre of games an excellent choice on your morning commute to work!

Seriously, it’s like you’re warming your brain up for the day ahead, and the games are usually really fun too. Force yourself into the habit of going through a few word games in the morning rather than scrolling through Instagram or TikTok on your way to work.

Puzzle Games

Some people group strategy and puzzle games into the same genre, but there’s a subtle difference between the two. Strategy games often call upon your skills to outthink an opponent or the computer. Puzzle games give you a literal problem to solve – and you’re usually battling against yourself.

Obvious games that spring to mind include solitaire, Connections, or even a modern game like Monument Valley. There are oodles of fantastic puzzle games on any mobile app store, so look for one that ticks the right boxes and makes you think

Load your phone with the right games and you’ll find yourself scrolling a lot less. The mindless drivel of social media becomes a tiny background noise as you fill your brain with useful information for once. It sounds like such a silly thing to talk about, but you genuinely feel different after playing some good games. It puts you in a better mood while also helping you develop more key skills.

The Technology Behind Modern Roller Shutters

Roller shutters have long been a staple in commercial, industrial, and residential security systems. Traditionally, they were operated manually and served a purely functional purpose: protecting doors, windows, and storefronts from intruders and the elements. However, like many building components, roller shutters have undergone a significant technological transformation. Today, modern roller shutters are equipped with advanced features that enhance security, automation, energy efficiency, and user convenience. This read explores the key technologies powering the evolution of roller shutters.

  1. Electric Motors and Automation Systems

Motorized Operation

One of the most significant technological advancements in roller shutters is the integration of electric motors. Electric motors eliminate the need for manual lifting and closing, allowing users to operate shutters with the push of a button. These motors come in different sizes and capacities, depending on the weight and size of the shutter according to Dublin Roller Shutters

Tubular Motors

The most commonly used motors in roller shutters are tubular motors, which fit inside the shutter axle, keeping the design compact and unobtrusive. Tubular motors offer smooth and quiet operation and can be easily integrated with remote control systems and smart home hubs.

  1. Remote Controls and Wireless Systems

Handheld Remote Control

Basic motorized shutters are often operated using a simple handheld remote control. These remotes use radio frequency (RF) technology to send signals to the shutter motor, allowing the user to open, close, or stop the shutter at any point.

Wireless Wall Switches

In addition to handheld remotes, wireless wall-mounted switches can be installed for convenience. These switches are battery-powered and communicate wirelessly with the motor, requiring no rewiring or invasive installation.

  1. Smart Home Integration

Compatibility with Smart Home Systems

Modern roller shutters can be integrated into smart home security ecosystems like Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and Apple HomeKit. This integration allows users to control shutters via voice commands or smartphone apps, even from remote locations.

Mobile App Control

Dedicated mobile apps give users real-time control over their shutters. These apps allow scheduling, remote access, and status monitoring, providing enhanced convenience and peace of mind, especially when away from the property.

IFTTT Automation

Through platforms like IFTTT (If This Then That), shutters can be programmed to react to other smart devices. For example, shutters can automatically close when the smart thermostat detects a certain temperature or when security cameras sense movement.

  1. Timers and Scheduling Functions

Programmable Timers

Advanced shutter systems include programmable timers that let users schedule opening and closing times. This feature is particularly useful for commercial premises, allowing businesses to automate security based on business hours.

Sunlight and Temperature Sensors

Some systems integrate sunlight and temperature sensors, allowing shutters to operate based on environmental conditions. For example, shutters may close during the hottest part of the day to keep interiors cool, reducing the need for air conditioning.

  1. Safety and Obstacle Detection Technology

Obstacle Detection Sensors

Safety is a critical concern in motorized roller shutter systems. Obstacle detection sensors automatically stop the shutter’s motion if an object or person is in the way. This prevents accidents and reduces wear and tear on the motor.

Auto-Reverse Function

Many systems include an auto-reverse function: when resistance is detected during closure, the shutter will reverse direction. This is particularly important in residential settings or places frequented by children and pets.

  1. Battery Backup and Power Failure Protection

Battery Backup Systems

Power outages can disable motorized shutters, but battery backup systems ensure they remain operational during blackouts. These systems automatically switch to battery power if the main supply is interrupted.

Manual Override

In the event of motor failure or a prolonged power outage, a manual override system—often a crank handle—allows users to operate the shutter manually, ensuring continued functionality.

  1. Noise Reduction and Vibration Control

Brush and Seal Technology

Advanced brush and seal systems reduce the noise produced by moving shutters. These components also minimize vibrations, making roller shutters quieter and more suitable for residential environments.

Soundproof Slats

Some manufacturers offer slats with soundproofing materials inside. These slats not only reduce operational noise but also help insulate the property against external sound pollution.

  1. Insulation and Energy Efficiency Technology

Insulated Slats

Modern roller shutters often include insulated slats made from aluminium and injected with polyurethane foam. These slats improve energy efficiency by providing thermal insulation, helping to maintain indoor temperatures.

Thermal Break Technology

Some premium systems include thermal breaks—barriers within the shutter slats that prevent heat transfer. This enhances energy performance and reduces reliance on heating and cooling systems.

  1. Security Enhancements and Locking Mechanisms

Electronic Locking Systems

Beyond simple latches, many roller shutters are now equipped with electronic locking mechanisms. These locks engage automatically when the shutter is closed and can only be disengaged via remote control or smart system access.

Anti-Lift Devices

To prevent burglars from prying open the shutter from the bottom, anti-lift sensors and mechanical devices automatically engage if unauthorized lifting is detected.

Alarm Integration

Roller shutters can be connected to alarm systems or CCTV cameras. If tampering is detected, an alarm can be triggered, and the system can notify the property owner or security personnel via SMS or app notification.

  1. Materials and Construction Technology

Lightweight, High-Strength Alloys

Modern roller shutters often use lightweight yet high-strength materials such as extruded aluminium or galvanized steel. These materials are corrosion-resistant and durable, ideal for long-term use in various environments.

Powder Coating Technology

Advanced powder coating techniques not only improve the aesthetic appeal of roller shutters but also increase resistance to weather, corrosion, and UV damage.

The Takeaway

Roller shutters have come a long way from their humble beginnings. Thanks to significant advances in technology, they now offer much more than just physical security. Motorized operation, smart home integration, safety sensors, and energy-efficient materials have all contributed to making roller shutters smarter, safer, and more user-friendly.

As the demand for home automation and security grows, roller shutters will likely continue to evolve—integrating AI, machine learning, and even predictive environmental responses. Whether for residential use or commercial applications, investing in technologically advanced roller shutters ensures enhanced convenience, safety, and long-term cost savings.
