Royal College of Surgeons launch new health app with real info. #Apps #Health

Google is your friend when searching for problems but it can be also be your enemy whilst searching for information concerning health and in some cases it can be fatal but with the technology available today we are starting to see more and more in – house apps from real practitioners something similar to an app we featured a while ago called Touch Surgery

WP_20150914_18_09_59_Pro

The Royal College of Surgeons have released a new app though which gives information on certain issues and will hopefully prevent people from using search engines as a source of info which can be mixed across the board.Self diagnosing is not wise but we have all done myself included so there is no denying that it is something there for people to do and even if its just out of curiosity or perhaps searching on someone else’s behalf…

On opening the app you are presented with 4 icons as pictured above and you can then set up your own profile which is non intrusive on information,In the search option you will be presented with an alphabetical list and then you can open the desired selection and get information. There is also some news categories to chose from too if you want to keep up to speed on the latest info at hand on health etc. So far on testing the app its quite smooth and responsive and its an excellent job and idea and would like to see more like it..

There is also a feature to store your own health information such as blood type, weight, height and to calculate your BMI. The app also includes a very useful feature that lists all the hospitals in Ireland and contact information for each hospital as well as emergency services information.

Sony scales back on its waterproof policy. #Sony #Mobile #Waterproof

Sony has numerous devices touting good IP ratings and of course dust ratings but when water does get in this is a problem for users under warranty and devices not being repaired so we can now see the true meaning of waterproof devices, they are not, simple as,flaps not closed correctly, ports, earpiece, mic and so on, water will get in somewhere and even though devices have a rating this depends on how long the device has been submerged,In short I personally would not use a device underwater or in a shower as I do not buy this splash-proof/waterproof jargon. This notice will apply to the Z3+ and the upcoming Z5 ,Accidents do happen I might add and perhaps Sony should allow more leeway..

Some of Sonys statements below..

Your device has an IP rating. This means that under a strictly controlled laboratory environment, the hardware works as designed even after being exposed to specific conditions.

Sony devices that are tested for their waterproof abilities are placed gently inside a container filled with tap water and lowered to a depth of 1.5 metres. After 30 minutes in the container, the device is gently taken out and its functions and features are tested.

If you’re at the dinner table and accidentally spill water all over your device, you don’t have to worry. Just allow the device to dry out completely.

Caught in the rain while waiting at the bus stop? Not a problem. Your Xperia device can handle raindrops falling on your head, as well as your screen.

Do you spend time relaxing at the tub after a hard day at work? Watch a movie on your Xperia device. Just make sure you don’t submerge your device in bath water and you wash off those soap suds when you’re done.

Other ways to use your device

  • When your fingers are wet.
  • In dusty environments, such as a windy beach or when hiking along a dusty trail. Just make sure you wash off all the dust on your device using water from the tap afterwards.
  • Taking photos and movies in wet surroundings. Remember not to use the device underwater. If you accidentally get the device wet with non-fresh water, wash the device with tap water.

Head over to Sony for the full deets.

One Plus is teasing again amid its shipping issues. #OnePlus #OnePlus2 #Teaser

One plus is good at teasing folk and lets be honest One Plus fans love it,they like being kept on their toes and the company surely does this with its teasers, today they gave a teaser of just an image saying…

Something luxurious is coming to OnePlus. What could it be?

People are also saying it could be a cover with NFC built in but i doubt that very much, others say an xmas devices, well i also doubt this be the case too..

Never walk home alone again with “Companion App” #Apps #Safety

Waking home alone is not the wise move to make late at night and especially with the dark nights upon us daylight hours are less thus leaving some vulnerable earlier, the same applies now to the morning time as Winter approaches, this is when you might be potentially attacked which is the last thing one would want to happen.. Regardless prevention is better than cure and you should try to remain in a group or at least have a taxi or lift but it does happen when we may ramble on or continue to walk whilst trying to hail a cab..

There is now a new app to give you company if you will and you can have someone remotely monitor your journey home and its called Companion App which is a peer to peer operation via your smartphone..You can pick family members or friends who do not actually have to have the app installed and they can monitor your moves and it alerts them if there is no response and you can contact local authorities.

#Google #Microsoft #Mozilla & #Netflix are just some members of “AllianceForOpenMedia” By @VicenteA_George #Media #Codecs

We live in an age when almost everything is located on Internet and every day more and more of our Media are at some point, unplayable due to some “Format Restriction” of any kind.

Well, soon that’s about to end thanks to the recently announced Alliance for Open Media.

Starting on September 1st Seven of the most greatest Media creator have created this “Justice League” of Formats and Codecs for video and media in general.

“The Open and royalty-free format for next-generation
ultra high definition media”

Amazon, Cisco, Google, Intel, Microsoft, Mozilla and Netflix have made partnership into this Open-Source Project to reach to ultimate goal of “develop next-generation media formats, codecs and technologies in the public interest.”

Something that really complicate media consumption in the format of the video we’re trying to see.

For example:

For using MPEG-2 or MPEG-4 formats, a royalty must be paid to MPEG LA.

Mozilla has Daala

Google is has on VP9 and 10

Etc.

That’s why should not come as surprise that this guys wanna save some money and as result we have a more persistent and pleasant usability of video formats.

What they want to do as main task is to create media:

Interoperable and open.

Optimized for the web.

Scalable to any modern device at any bandwidth.

Designed with a low computational footprint and optimized for hardware.

Capable of consistent, highest-quality, real-time video delivery.

Flexible for both commercial and non-commercial content, including user-generated content.

(Something worth the mention is Apple absence in the group, which is easily explainable.

Apple owns QuickTime and they need to pay anyone to implement videos on  iTunes or Apple TV.)

The license name will be Apache 2.0 and will work under the W3C patent rules.
