Technological advancements within Fashion – how is It driving growth #3DPrinting #Tech #Fashion #AI

From the textiles used in garment manufacturing to creating a sustainable supply chain, technological advancements are set to innovate fashion in countless ways. For a long time, the processes used in the fashion sector have remained remarkably unchanged. In the coming years, however, we can expect big things!
As of 2020, fashion generates an estimated $664b revenue, making it one of the biggest industries in the world. Because of this, technological innovations within this sector are set to be nothing less than world-changing and, if implemented correctly, technology in fashion could make an unfathomable change in creating a greener, cleaner world.
From big data to Blockchain technology, let’s take a look at the innovations that we can expect to see in the world of fashion over the coming years and consider the monumental difference that they are going to make.

Novel fabrics

Over recent years, we’ve made some big steps towards more ethical fabric practices. However, new fabrics such as vegan leather are actually damaging to the environment due to their high plastic content. In answer to this, scientists have been developing new novel fabrics, such as lab-grown leather and sustainably produced ‘super-strong’ spider silk.
Tech giant, Google, is also getting involved in this new era of fabric creation. The Google ATAP (advanced technology and projects) lab is currently working on the creation of touch-responsive textiles that are made from conductive threads. These fabrics are being developed further, and there are even plans for colour-changing fabric development within the ATAP lab. These fabrics will be designed to change colour in relation to moods, settings, or temperatures.

Artificial Intelligence

From customer service to inventory tracking, Artificial Intelligence is already becoming a powerful tool that brands can use to predict trends and get ahead of the game. Virtual wardrobes and automated wardrobe planning tools allow users to get creative with their shopping—improving the user experience while also giving brands access to unique, instant, customer data.
AI is also set to personalise the world of fashion down to the finest detail. Some brands are already utilising online ’fit engines’ that help users find the perfect style and fit for them. Say goodbye to the ‘one size fits all’ approach—thanks to AI, the world of fashion is about to get more personal than ever before.

Blockchain

Associated most with the record-keeping of bitcoin technology, blockchain tech is set to revolutionise the way the fashion is shipped, traced, and recorded. Each ‘Block’ within the blockchain is made up of specific pieces of data that store unique digital information about a transaction. This information includes the date and time of the transaction, as well as the monetary value of the purchase.
In the world of fashion, blockchain technology is an up and coming way in which brands are improving their supply chains. Every movement of a product on a supply chain will be recorded on the blockchain, creating a physical-digital link between each product and their digital identities. This unique link means that fakes will be obvious and therefore counterfeiting can be easily detected. Any attempt to divert goods can also be easily tracked in a blockchain system.

3D printing

Speaking of colour-changing technology, those working in the exciting field of 3D printing are also currently working on the development of colour-changing fabric. Using ‘photochromic inks’ that changes colour when exposed to certain wavelengths of UV light, scientists are developing garments and jewellery pieces that have the ability to shift between hues. The first success in this field was the creation of a ring that can be programmed into numerous customisable colours.
As well as colourful innovations like this one, 3D printing is working to innovate the textile industry in many other ways. From accessories to women’s trainers, the possible 3D printing creations seem to be limitless!
3D printing has been used in the realms of runway fashion for a while now. Think back to 2010, when Dutch designer Iris Van Herpen made a statement with her “Crystallization” top, a geometric garment which was 3D printed from white polyamide. Over the next few years, 3D printing will no longer be confined to the catwalk but implemented on a much larger scale as part of the standard fashion supply chain.
From sustainability to the empowerment of individuals, technology is destined to revolutionise the textiles industry on every scale. With increased productivity and ultimate user understanding, the world of fashion will be re-modelled over the coming years and, thanks to technology, the end result will be more efficient, greener, and uniquely suited to every shopper out there.

Jabra announces their new Elite 85t earbuds and releases ANC update for 75t earbuds #JabraElite85t #Jabra

Building on a leading track record of innovation in true wireless earbuds, Jabra introduces ANC to its award-winning compact true wireless portfolio with the all new Elite 85t and upgraded Elite 75t series, with no compromises made on the sleek design or optimal fit.

The Elite 85t is engineered to defy the boundaries of how much noise can be removed in a set of true wireless earbuds. It features Jabra’s most advanced and powerful ANC technology, without compromising on the size or the signature design that looks and feels great to wear all day. With the Elite 85t, there will be no compromise in the discreet design or comfort, no compromise in the calls or music experience and no compromise in the effectiveness of the ANC.

The updates to the Elite 75t series – both Active and non-Active – will happen via a firmware update in the Sound+ app. Jabra is the first company to deliver ANC on an existing true wireless product line, creating one of the broadest true wireless ANC line-ups in the market. All based on the miniaturisation standards the market has come to expect from Jabra.

Elite 85t with Jabra Advanced ANC TM

The newest addition to the Elite series, the Jabra Elite 85t, comes with Jabra Advanced ANC TM  which delivers a level of noise-cancelling that goes one step further than Jabra’s standard ANC offerings. Dual chipset in the earbuds deliver strong ANC capability as well as optimal sound processing. These are some of the smallest earbuds that offer premium ANC to create your private, quite space and delivers HearThrough to let you hear your surroundings – both features fully adjustable and with extra focus on natural sound performance and limited occlusion (blockage/closure), achieved via the semi-open design and multiple ANC microphones.

As more people than ever demand flexibility in making and taking calls, the new Jabra Elite 85t earbuds bring outstanding call quality for the user and the person on the other end, with the 6-mic technology (three on each ear, two on the outside, one on the inside). On top comes improved wind noise protection enabling great calls anywhere. Microphones on the inside and outside of the earbuds are used to provide Jabra Advanced ANCTM, which allows for improved noise cancellation, filtering out more noise. The flexibility of the Jabra Advanced ANCTM goes beyond an on/off solution as it is adjustable with dual slider from full ANC to full HearThrough, and anywhere in between, meaning the Jabra Elite 85t offers a more personalised experience that puts the user in control of their surroundings.

Semi-open design

The 12mm speakers allow the Jabra Elite 85t to produce a big sound and powerful bass, while still enhancing comfort and relieving ear pressure with its semi-open design. Jabra has also adapted the ear gels to an oval shape providing a better sealing in the ear. This means the tower of the Elite 85t does not sit as deeply within the ear, giving users a more comfortable earbud, while maintaining a very secure fit.

Elite 85t provides up to 5.5 hours of listening with ANC on, which extends to 25 hours with the charging case with ANC on and 31 hours with ANC off.

René Svendsen-Tune, CEO at Jabra, said: “At Jabra we engineer products for purpose and today we are proud to show that our commitment to ANC is no exception. Users today are looking for great things in small packages, so we are thrilled to be offering our users best-in-class ANC in a very compact and sleek design. We are also excited to take our current users on the ANC journey with us with a free upgrade to their existing Elite 75t products – leading the charge as the first global brand to execute this over-the-air update. For us, ANC now means ‘Accept No Compromise’!”

Elite 75t with ANC as standard

Now with ANC – the award-winning Elite 75t, both Active and non-Active earbuds. Same great calls, same great sound and a fit like no other, now with the addition of Jabra’s standard ANC solution, applying to music and media playback. This free upgrade is being made available to users through Jabra’s engineering on Qualcomm technology. Taking advantage of the superior digital audio processor already available in Elite 75t and leading ANC know-how, Jabra has been able to deploy ANC in the existing product line.

The Jabra Elite 75t series will also be available to purchase with ANC as standard from October 2020. This means that both those who have an Elite 75t product, or are in the market for one, can experience Jabra’s standard level of ANC; ensuring noise cancellation on lower frequencies.

The ANC enabled models will also continue to have IP55/IP57 rated durability, and a two-year warranty. With ANC on, battery will be 5.5 hrs on a single charge (24 hrs in total with charging case), and with ANC off it will be the existing 7.5 hrs and 28 hrs in total. Better still, the addition of ANC as standard adds no additional cost to the earbuds.

Jabra Elite 85t key features and specifications:

  • Compact design and oval silicon EarGels™ for a secure seal and comfortable fit
  • Dedicated ANC chip which is more efficient in removing surrounding noises
  • 6-microphone call technology and wind protection for superior calls wherever you are

Evernote Announces Debut of New Re-Engineered Apps. #Evernote #Apps #Tech

Evernote, the productivity app that lets you remember everything and accomplish anything, announces the debut of its new apps, delivering on a strategic priority to improve speed, reliability and scalability, and to lay the groundwork for fast-paced future innovation. The much-anticipated launch kicks off today with the new Evernote for iOS, marking the first in a series of releases — with rebuilt apps for Windows, Mac, and Android coming soon.

Today’s release of Evernote for iOS is the first step in delivering on the company’s one-and-a-half year journey to “focus on the basics.” Burdened with tech and product debt that had slowly accumulated since Evernote’s start 16 years ago, Evernote’s previous app architecture suffered from consistency and scaling challenges that were holding back growth. After joining the company in late 2018, Evernote CEO Ian Small worked with the team to launch a far-reaching and ambitious plan to improve the basic foundations.

“We took a bold, unconventional approach to solve the scalability and innovation limitations our product had accumulated over many successful years, which required rebuilding from the ground up,” said Small. “To deliver an Evernote that our customers love – whether they have 10 or 10,000 notes, whether they’ve been using Evernote for 10 days or 10 years – we had to go back to basics; back to the very reason we captured their hearts in the first place. And we broke with convention again to bring our customers along on the journey, being extraordinarily transparent and listening closely to what they had to say.

As publicly shared through a series of ”Behind the Scenes” videos, the Evernote team spent countless hours improving everything from the infrastructure to design language to user experience, and optimizing almost every feature. Simultaneously and without any interruptions to customers, Evernote silently migrated billions of notes from legacy to scalable cloud storage and improved the way notes are retrieved and synced.

“Today’s iOS release marks a major milestone in our journey to rebuild our apps, our infrastructure, and the way we ship software,” said Small. “Debuting these new apps, paired with the ongoing re-architecture and data migration we’ve been doing in the cloud, is the first proof point as we set up Evernote to delight our customers and achieve new company growth for years to come.”

The complete, comprehensive rebuild sets the stage for fresh design improvements across all platforms, including:

  • A clean, consistent interface. Intuitive and clutter-free, the new Evernote looks and behaves more consistently across all devices.

  • A new, modern note editor. With improved readability and formatting options, users have more control over headings and fonts; more flexibility with multiple highlight colours and checklist formats; an improved toolbar; better web clip editing; easier link management; and more.

  • A smart, powerful search capability. New search improvements allow customers to see real-time suggestions; to have typos corrected; to narrow results by people, tags or attachments; and to easily save searches for frequently searched items.
  • An improved, reliable foundation. By rebuilding “under the hood,” the new Evernote features a smooth, automated sync; provides peace of mind with automated app updates; and will allow for more rapid feature development.

Evernote’s new apps reflect a research-driven, user-centred approach incorporating feedback on functionality and design throughout every phase of the software development process. The company’s Beta Program incorporated nearly 150,000 users representing nearly every country in the world, with feedback collected through surveys, forums, Apple Testflight, Google Play, and extensive user testing.

The new Evernote for iOS is available to download on the App Store, with new releases for Windows, Mac, and Android coming soon.

What is the Difference Between Managed and Unmanaged VPS Hosting?

Setting up your own website can be a great first step for your business. Offering an online option will appeal to more customers, and word of mouth will quickly spread about you. In terms of web hosting options, you will likely find that a VPS is a good intermediary between the three that are readily available. You will then need to decide if you are going to go with a managed vs. unmanaged VPS. We will be examining the differences between the two to make your decision a little clearer.

What is VPS?

There are three main types of web hosting that are available for your website. Shared hosting is the first, and usually the cheapest option. It involves hundreds of different websites sharing the same server and resources, such as CPU time, memory, and disk space. This tends to be what first-time businesses use when they do not have many resources at their disposal.

A VPS, or virtual private server, is used when your website is still sharing the same server as several websites, but on a much smaller scale. Not all the resources are being shared, and an individual portion of the server is allocated to your website. Small to medium-sized companies usually use VPS because it suits their needs the best.

A dedicated server is the most expensive choice. It involves the website getting its very own server. Nothing is shared, and all the resources are designated specifically for your website. This hosting option is typically used by large online businesses that get a heavy flow of traffic on a daily basis.

Managed VPS

A managed VPS involves your hosting service provider taking care of the majority of the work. This includes updates, regular maintenance, software patches, and they are also on call in case something stops working unexpectedly. The provider takes over all of these things so that the business owner can concentrate completely on running the company.

The best people to use a managed VPS are business owners who do not have much technical expertise in the field of web hosting. It would also be good for new businesses because the owner can take the time to focus on their work rather than on the server.

The main advantage of using a managed VPS is that it gives you more peace of mind. You are secure in the knowledge that your website is being monitored 24/7 and that your uptime is very high. You can also trust that your provider will be making server upgrades that will boost traffic and therefore increase your profits.

Unmanaged VPS

Unmanaged VPS is the exact opposite. With this option, the business owner takes the entire responsibility of managing the server and operating system. If the website goes down, the owner needs to realize it and fix it themselves as soon as possible.

The people who normally use an unmanaged VPS are business owners who are more tech-savvy. They need to know how web hosting works. They also need to know basic coding and have some skills in web design.

The main advantage of using an unmanaged VPS is that it gives users more freedom. They can tweak their settings as desired and make whatever upgrades they want. If the user has a basic knowledge of web hosting, they should be able to figure out how to run their server on their own.

Differences

Overall, the major difference between managed and unmanaged VPS is the level of responsibility that the business owner is taking in the running of the server. Managed hosting has the server settings handled by the hosting provider. Meanwhile, unmanaged VPS allows the owner to take responsibility for the settings.

As well, managed VPS tends to cost more than the unmanaged counterpart. The provider is more hands-on, and so they charge extra for all the services that they are providing. Unmanaged VPS is cheaper initially. However, if a problem occurs and you can’t figure out how to get the server back up and running, you might be out more money than you counted on.

Conclusion

Overall, the decision to use a managed or unmanaged VPS basically comes down to your level of tech knowledge. If you start out with a managed VPS and you want to be more involved later on, that can easily happen. By taking some courses to expand your knowledge, you will become more familiar with what you need to do. Then you can switch to an unmanaged VPS for the future.

Could You be Sitting on a Gadget Goldmine? #Tech #Gadgets #CurrysPcWorld

Adjusting to the ‘new normal’ can be easier said than done and looking back at the good old days can be a nice reprieve from the realities of the pandemic. The past is very present in our culture, including in the TV shows we watch (such as Stranger Things and Hollywood), memorabilia we keep hold of from way back when, and the resurfacing of “Throwback Thursday” photos. It is clear we are a nostalgic nation.

A recent study by Currys PC World sent to us surveyed 2042 UK residents to unearth why the nation loves to reminisce on days gone by. From what decade we miss the most and how nostalgia makes us feel, to who yearns for the past the most, we reveal it all. Like me there is many collectors out there and I have one of the biggest collection of NOKIA devices in Europe and have other collectibles in mobile phones too but you could have something worth a few quid in your drawer and perhaps now might be a time to check, let us know what you have.

Old is the new “new”: Nostalgia can be your next side hustle

Even in today’s digital age, vintage gadgets can remind us of a time when life was as simple as the technology in our phones, games consoles, and music devices. And thanks to this nostalgia, you can make money selling vintage technology, on the basis they are in working condition. When it comes to buying vintage gadgets, people are willing to spend more money on older generations of phones (34%), followed by music devices (32%) and gaming consoles (21%).

Those old mobiles sitting in your drawer gathering dust may also be gathering interest. Currys PC World looked at some of the classic mobile phones and found that the Motorola DynaTac has increased in value by 147% between 1983 and 2020. The original iPhone has also appreciated in value by 264% between 2003 and 2020. We wanted to know who is willing to pay the most for vintage gadgets and here’s what was found:

·         Over a fifth (21%) of top-tier earners are willing to pay more money for vintage record players than the latest technology

·         Women are willing to pay more (30%) for mid-generation phones than men (27%)

·         28% of mid-tier earners sell their items on to make more money

·         Over 1 in 10 people are willing to spend more money on mid-generation games consoles than the latest technology

·         35% of people aged 55+ are willing to pay out for mid-generation phones

The most nostalgic city in the U.K.

The nation is full of idiosyncrasies and it turns out that opinions on nostalgia are no different, as how we reminisce differs from city to city across Britain. Londoners love the most up-to-date games consoles (33%) and are willing to pay a higher price for it. Whereas Bristol, Birmingham and Plymouth (13%) are willing to spend more on vintage games consoles. When it comes to the most missed decades, Belfast longs for the 80s the most (47%) but Leeds (30%) and Liverpool (38%) miss the 60s the most. Sheffield residents miss the 90s (26%)– the decade that Spice Girls found international stardom – the most.

·         Norwich residents are the most nostalgic in the U.K. (59%)

·         Newcastle residents are the least nostalgic (11%)

·         Southampton residents get the most stressed when thinking about the past (8%)

·         Plymouth is a city of technology hoarders, as 43% keep their vintage technology

·         30% of Edinburgh residents give their technology away

The battle of the sexes: Women are more nostalgic than men

Reminiscing is a very personal experience and impacts some people more so than others. There are all sorts of things that can trigger nostalgia and bring on a whole host of emotions too. According to the research, it turns out that vintage games consoles are three times (14%) more likely to trigger nostalgia in men than women (4%), which could explain why they are almost twice as likely (12%) to buy them than women. Music, films and chatting to family are most likely to trigger feelings of nostalgia in women.

·         Music triggers nostalgia in women (60%) more than men (50%)

·         Men (6%) feel more stressed than women when reminiscing (3%)

·         Men are twice as likely (14%) to see nostalgia as an avoidance of the present than women (7%)

More information on the study can be found here: https://techtalk.currys.co.uk/gadgets/mobile-phones/nostalgia-why-britain-loves-to-look-back/

Methodology

Survey data was collected through Censuswide with 2042 participants across the U.K. All mobile phone value data was based on the original retail price and the highest asking price for a working model on eBay (25/05/2020). Mobile retail price data was sourced from:

·         https://www.knowyourmobile.com/phones/the-history-of-mobile-phones-from-1973-to-2008-the-handsets-that-made-it-all-happen-d58/

·         https://www.oldest.org/technology/cell-phones/

·         https://qz.com/1450916/how-much-every-apple-iphone-costs-today/

Whether it’s because of the music, the fashion or the simpler technology, looking back to a bygone era is a popular pastime for the nation. With the right SIM-free phone, it’s easy to enjoy the simplicity of the past without getting lockdown with expensive contracts.

Review – The Google Pixel 4a, A phone for everyone. #Pixel4a #Google #Tech

Having put  the Pixel 4a through its paces the last couple of weeks I can safely say this is a phone for all, even power users, given the size of the phone which is something much smaller than I typically use I have got use to using it, shot hours of video reviews on it and it has not let me down once bar the odd freeze which can happen to any phone, One has to question the constant One Plus promos but when it comes to the best bang for your buck the Pixel 4A WINS..

I did a first impressions some time back so I wont be boring you with the specs we all know about now but there is some shortcuts taken to get the device to this price it will go on sale for which are not bad but some might get in the way but for a cohesive phone you can forgive the shortcomings and look at the overall package on offer here with the Pixel 4a.

You have no face unlock,no wireless charging, one size for all and no wide camera or telephoto but does it matter?? With the shots the pixel devices take and are known for most people use their devices to take snaps and you can be guaranteed a great shot almost every time with this device and it has been a trend on the pixel devices for some time now. Given they have the obvious looking camera hump on the rear it has ONE LENS not a set up like a spider looking at you on the back which is getting a bit silly looking now these days. You also have no SD card expansion but you get massive storage here (128GB) for your troubles which at this price again is not seen too often.

When it comes to multitasking it worked a treat from my heavy usage and I used this as my daily driver fully loaded with my usual apps which is quite a few being a tech enthusiast but for the average user you will see a day but for a power user you will need to look for a charge in the evening,my phone typically goes on around 7am and by 6pm on a good day I would need to be looking to charge the device but its not an issue as I have power banks and alway near a plug. Battery life does vary day to day but overall for the size of the battery it aint that bad but it is something to consider especially if you are a power user but as mentioned this can be easily overcome depending on your usage and your personal needs, My daily routine changes all the time and some days I might not be so heavy on the device and would shift to evenings instead but having said that I am a power user in general..
