Knowledge Transfer Ireland (KTI), has announced details of a new interactive “Find R&D Funding” tool, which will provide organisations with a mechanism to help them source funding and supports for research and development activity in Ireland. The easy to use resource was launched at KTI’s Knowledge Transfer Summit which brought together over 300 entrepreneurs, business leaders, investors, universities, Institutes of Technology and publicly-funded research organisations (RPOs).

KTI helps business to benefit from access to Irish expertise and technology by making it simple to connect and engage with this research base in Ireland, thus progressing innovation, the commercialisation of research, job creation and economic prosperityThe Find Funding resource – now freely available on the KTI website – provides information on the various sources of funding, incentives and other supports available for organisations interested in engaging in R&D.

Minister Halligan said, “The Government is committed to cultivating a system and infrastructure in this country where research and innovation can excel.  The number and range of supports on offer by the Irish state to support enterprise innovation directly and indirectly are critical to driving increased levels of innovation in Ireland. By contributing to increased academic-industry collaboration and enhanced in-firm capabilities these supports help deliver on the ambition contained in Innovation 2020 – the Government’s strategy for research and development, science and technology.   KTI’s new interactive tool can help make it easier to find the most appropriate supports for your organisation.  I strongly encourage organisations to avail of this marvellous and one-off resource when thinking about embarking on their next research project.”

Commenting on the sector Dr Alison Campbell, Director of KTI, said, “The knowledge transfer sector in Ireland is maturing, driven through active engagement in the processes by companies and entrepreneurs working with the research base.  We are seeing an increase in the level of investment – both public and private – in the space.  With this in mind, the KTI Knowledge Transfer Summit was timely in bringing discussion to the fore relating to the investment in early stage companies as well as supports that can benefit more general research engagements.”

She continued “To further progress the level of innovation and R&D activity in Ireland it is vital that industry can access the most appropriate sources of funding and support for their research and development projects. Our goal at KTI is to drive awareness regarding the resources available, which is why we are delighted to launch the Knowledge Transfer Ireland “Find Funding” resource. #Navmii AI Dashcam is a free Dashcam app with driver alerts and assistance. #motoring #AI

Built to improve driver safety and speed awareness, it introduces the technology available in high-spec cars to all vehicle models. In addition to being a fully functioning video recorder, Navmii’s is the first free app with Advanced Driver Assistance Software (ADAS) that:

  • Provides potential collision alerts
  • Reads speed limit road signs –  reminding drivers to the speed limit of each road they travel on

Navmii AI Dashcam not only records a car journey, securely storing it on a smartphone, it will alert users of potential hazards such as collision warnings when a driver approaches other cars too quickly. The app also uses artificial intelligence (AI) to ‘read’ road side speed signs and alert the driver if they are travelling too fast.

Users can choose the length of recordings and set a limit on how much memory the Dashcam will use on a phone or SD card.  All recordings can be permanently saved to ensure drivers have a high-quality record of any incidents or crashes.

Peter Atalla, CEO of Navmii, comments: “Driver assistance products are increasingly being built in to cars, but we have incorporated them into a free app that makes it simpler and cheaper for drivers to remain safe and record their journeys.”

“Navmii AI Dashcam offers users a completely free experience without advertisements. Our app offers the functionality of a high end dashcam usually costing several hundred pounds, demonstrating our continued commitment to offering free apps to drivers that help them travel safely,” notes Atalla.

Features

  • Advanced Driver Assistance Systems built into free Dashcam app
  • Available for Google Play with iOS version coming soon
  • Record and keep your journey on your mobile phone
  • Collision warnings and speed alerts all in a free app

Where next for car technology? #Cars #Motoring #Autonomous #Driving

The concept of self-driving cars has been mooted for quite some time and has been a feature of sci-fi TV shows or cartoons speculatively casting an eye to the future. In 2017, autonomous cars have become a distinct possibility, and while a fully autonomous vehicle is still a way off, we can now invest in cars which will let us kick back for most of a journey.

We’re also entering the area of holographic windscreens which can display key data that we would previously have needed to glance down at the dashboard to see. These advances are remarkable when you think that it wasn’t so long ago since power steering and remote locking were perceived as fantastic innovations.
