Review – The Plantronics Voyager 6200 UC headphones. #Tech #Plantronics

If you need a new pair of neckband headphones these are something to look at right away.. Having used these for some time now they passed my expectations in all aspects delivering on quality and how they sound, these are loud.

With a solid build a rubberised texture these will last and they also have easy to use functions and several buttons placed on them in a convenient manner and work quite well. Featuring all the needs you would come to expect such as call control, Play,Pause Skip and reverse tracks and volume control these are ideal for those on the go and you also have your voice assistant at hand should you require it.

Call quality is top notch for those who would use these in an office environment but these really do shine when it comes to music and more. On my usual testing on You Tube and Netflix these really did really threw me off guard when it came to the sound. These pack a punch and are loud and that is how I like it, Good bass and direction, great on highs lows and mids and overall a superb experience to be had and no lag latency when it comes to streaming and so on. These are at the higher end when it comes to price but they are worth it. Check the video review out for more.

First look and detailed walk through of the emporia smart 3 mini. #emporia #tech #emporiasmart3mini

With a saturated market today in mobile we have never had a better choice when it comes to picking up a smartphone at any price-point. All this is well and good but when it comes to smartphones for the older generation we have problems. The older generation like things simple and with the majority of today’s phones they are convoluted in my opinion leaving it a difficult task for the older generation to find their way through the menus and so on..

Doro would be a brand most people are familiar with and recently Nokia have released some devices that aim to either detox the overuse of phones or give older people a chance to get familiar with feature phones emporia does this too and is dedicated to give these people an option in many form factors but with ease of use.

I feel that more and more of the older generation want to get into the connected world though as mentioned above the typical smartphone is just to complicated for them and one look at one and they put it down this is where this company differs and will offer people to migrate to a smartphone with ease and there is several levels to pick from which then enables the user to move up a gear or two once they become familiar and simplicity is a key factor here for that to serve its purpose. Today we take a first look and walk through the UI on this device and its features and we will be testing it out over the coming weeks so feel free to show your family or friends this new entrant to the Irish market and if you have any questions feel free to ask as always and we will gladly answer.

Mobile phone myths Brits believe the most. #5G #Apps #Security #Mobile

This is more common sense than myth, but it’s worth noting modern smartphones are designed to optimise foreground “tasks” while others harmlessly float in the background. From 5G conspiracy theories to radiation poisoning, OnBuy’s mobile phone department conducted a survey to find out the mobile phone myths Brits believe the most and asked us to share it.

When it comes to mobile phone batteries, OnBuy found the number one thing Brits believe is: apps running in the background use up battery. In fact, 87% of those surveyed believe this is true.

While this is more common sense than myth, it’s worth remembering modern smartphones are designed to optimise foreground “tasks” while others harmlessly float in the background.

Another common belief is overcharging a phone damages the battery (39%) or charging your phone overnight is bad for it (34%).

However, contrary to popular belief, modern smartphones contain chips to prevent charge overload. If your phone uses a lithium-ion battery, the current stops once its fully charged.

Urban Myths

Worryingly, Brits admit they have heard the following urban myths – but are yet to put them to the test!
You can cook an egg by placing it between two mobile phones – 6%

Never use a mobile when there’s a lightning storm – 19%

You can charge an iPhone in 20 seconds using a microwave oven – 25%

Myths included in OnBuy.com’s survey can be seen below OR see the full blog post HERE

  • Apps running in the background use up battery 87%
  • A screen protector will stop your phone getting scratched 77%
  • Taking out your SIM card keeps you from being tracked 75%
  • More megapixels = better camera 66%
  • You can dry a wet phone in a bag of rice 66%
  • Phones interfere with hospitals and planes 43%
  • Overcharging a phone damages the battery 39%
  • Charging your phone overnight is bad for it 34%
  • You shouldn’t keep your phone in the same pocket as a credit card 31%
  • Having a phone near your private parts can reduce sperm count / fertility 31%
  • Incognito mode protects your privacy 30%
  • Smartphones give off dangerous radiation 29%
  • Mobile phone use near a petrol pump can cause an explosion 26%
  • You shouldn’t use your phone while it’s charging 24%
  • A bigger battery means longer battery life 21%
  • You should drain your battery completely before charging 18%
  • Free Wi-Fi is safe to use 5%

Methodology

To achieve the results OnBuy.com sent out a survey to 3,446 British people. 50% of respondents that took part are male, 45% are female and 5% identify as “other.”

DHL and Viber SMS scams to watch out for here is all the details.@Viber @DHLExpressIre #DHL #Viber #Scams

Waking up to a scam is nothing new these days however getting up this morning I had several messages from followers regarding a Viber scam then yet I go the message myself and also a DHL scam which is something to take more interest in as it leads you to a website imitating DHL to give a payment of sorts.

The DHL one begins with an sms looking for a small fee to get your item delivered. DHL will not ask you for this information and if there is any issues with a package they will call you, they have a system in place anyway for dealing with transactions. This site is only trying to get steal your information which looks legit and some might be caught out here given the small amount they seek

The Viber group message going around is to join a group but leads you to a sex site but you are offered the chance to block or open the link so use your head and just block it and pass it on also if you have any of your kids on the app I would advise you to check their phone or block the number in question.

Wearables Pivot to Healthcare, Printed Electronics Wins. #Health #Wearables #IDTechEx

One of the fastest growing segments within the $64 Bn wearable technology industry will be medical wearables, which will grow to $19.7 Billion in 2024, according to IDTechEx Research.

Healthcare Sensor Innovations 2020, hosted in San Jose on March 17-18, identifies and assesses the opportunities for printed and flexible electronics in healthcare as the technology enables a new wave of medical wearable devices.

Presenting on healthcare sensor innovations, IDTechEx, hosts of the event, are delighted to announce the keynote presentations will be from Medtronic, GE Research, Starkey Hearing Technologies, Google and Maxim Integrated.

The event explores how new form factors of electronics have unleashed medical device companies from mostly rigid electronics to be able to offer more comfortable flexible and even stretchable wearable sensor platforms, such as electronic skin patches that can provide continuous monitoring. By enabling this capability, printed electronics wins. The opportunity for electronic skin patches, including case studies and results from medical and commercial activities, will be covered by presentations from NextFlex, Lief Therapeutics, Berkeley Sensor & Actuator Center and Blue Spark Technologies.

The event features presentations and exhibits from organizations leveraging advanced materials – printed or otherwise – which are being used to create new capabilities of biosensors to enable point of care sensors.

Organizations presenting on new sensors designed for healthcare include Parker Hannifin, Hexoskin, Imec, Melexis, Hitronics, Reveal Biosensors and many others.

“Printed electronics is demonstrating its broad applicability in healthcare,” states Raghu Das, CEO of IDTechEx. “From being used to create flexible and stretchable electrodes, to creating flexible batteries and a broad range of bio sensors, healthcare sensors present a high growth opportunity for printed electronics with sustainable margins.”

Healthcare Sensor Innovations 2020 is strategically held in San Jose, California, because healthcare organizations have been establishing a presence in silicon valley as the two worlds of life sciences and electronics intersect, creating solutions to solve huge challenges and create opportunities in point-of-care sensors and continuous monitoring.

Global Production of Electric Light Commercial Vehicles to Exceed 2.4 Million Units Annually by 2030 Forecasts IDTechEx

The light commercial vehicle market is at the dawn of a revolution; the future is electric. The main discourse around on-road vehicle electrification has been primarily focused on environmental concerns about the automotive sector’s contribution to climate change and the damaging effect on human health of exhaust pollutants. For businesses keen to address the environmental impact of their vehicle fleets a degree of altruism has always been required. In the electric light commercial vehicle market, this is about to change. In the near future, the main motivation for businesses to transition to eLCV will not be environmental but economic.

To help companies plan for the changes in this market, the newly launched IDTechEx report “Electric Vans 2020-2030” provides a detailed ten-year outlook for the uptake of electric light commercial vehicles across key regions; China, Europe, North America and the rest of the world, outlining eLCV production, penetration, market revenue and battery requirement. This report will be of value to companies across the automotive industry including OEMs, battery manufacturers, electric drivetrain parts and systems suppliers, materials and research organisations, charging infrastructure developers, government agencies and companies with significant LCV fleets.

Left: Forecast eLCV share of total global LCV market revenue Source: IDTechEx “Electric Vans 2020-2030” Right: The first versions of Arrival’s Electric van. Source: Arrival

The light commercial vehicle market is uniquely positioned to rapidly transition to electric vehicles. LCV operators primarily base their purchase decisions on total cost of ownership calculations, and whilst the upfront cost of electric LCVs is currently greater than for a equivalent diesel model, the significant operational cost saving from using electricity as a fuel, in replacement of diesel, is increasingly being shown to offset the initial price difference.

Over the next decade, as battery pack prices decrease, electric drivetrain efficiencies improve and significant economy of scale savings are realised on the cost of electric components and vehicle manufacturing, it will become a competitive advantage for companies to operate electric vans as they will offer the lowest cost solution. The addition of road charges for diesel vehicles in low emission zones within urban centres will swing the TCO balance heavily in favour of electric LCV.

IDTechEx believe the next few years will see companies conducting large scale pilot projects to establish that eLCVs meet their operational range, load capacity, payload and reliability requirements. Once demonstrable evidence is there that eLCVs can meet the operational requirements without increased cost, then the widespread replacement of ageing diesel LCVs with eLCV will begin in earnest.
