Cadoo, a leading Irish provider of messaging services, today announces a €250,000 investment in its new free messaging app, also called Cadoo. The funding will lead to the creation of 20 new jobs over the next two years.
The company has received a €250,000 from the founders of IT services company, Paradyn, along with a grant from Enterprise Ireland. Currently, Cadoo is recruiting software developers, user support personnel and business development executives.
The Cadoo app aims to reach one million users by the end of 2020, including 700,000 internationally. To realise its global growth targets, the company plan to open a UK office later this year.
Pictured announcing 20 new jobs and a €250,000 investment in Cadoo’s new free messaging app are (L-R) Mike Basile, product director, Cadoo; Cillian McCarthy, CEO, Paradyn; and students from St. Mary’s National School, Lamb’s Cross, Sandyford, Dublin 18.
The app is aimed primarily at schools and universities with 4,000 active users currently signed up to the Cadoo platform following a successful pilot programme. The app enables educational institutions to send unlimited free messages such as school closure alerts, notification of events, and appointment reminders to an unlimited number of contacts.
The user-friendly dashboard means that users can manage contact lists, create messages and monitor responses, with the ability to send rich media files such as JPEG and PDF, for free. Uniquely the Cadoo platform allows receivers to respond to the sender privately, on a one-to-one basis. There are no set-up costs, download charges, monthly charges or flat fees.
The messaging platform also offers senders the option to identify communications as high priority and in circumstances where the Cadoo message hasn’t been opened within a specified timeframe, the app resends the message as an SMS. For recipients who have not signed up for the service, the platform sends the message as an SMS. Recipients can easily unfollow organisations they no longer wish to hear from.

Mike Basile, product director, Cadoo, said: “We have ambitious growth plans for Cadoo, which include opening an office in the UK later this year, the app reaching one million users by 2020, not just in Ireland but in overseas markets, such as the US, the UK and Australia.
“The free Cadoo app gives schools, colleges and universities more control over their communications, whilst cutting both their costs and admin time spent managing these communications. Educational institutions have the option of sending media-rich messages to large numbers of students or students’ parents for free and Cadoo also gives them the ability to send and receive communications in one app.
“Recipients also benefit by getting immediate and important updates, as well as being able to respond directly and privately.”
Investor, Cillian McCarthy, CEO, Paradyn, said: “We’re very excited to invest in Cadoo, there is huge potential for the app, not just in Ireland but globally. The pilot programme has shown that the user-friendly platform saves schools and colleges both time and money managing phone messaging. We expect strong uptake from the educational sector worldwide.”

Keeping track of cash inflows and outflows doesn’t require a keen eye or a rocket scientist, just time and effort. Now that everything is digitized, you can monitor your financial status without the headache of paper everywhere.
Receipts and bank statements are emailed, account information is available online, and smartphones allow instantaneous Internet access nearly anywhere. So you can easily attain your financial records, but how exactly are you supposed to track them? The answer is apps.

The voice tracking capability, which works on a variety of devices including Google Home, Android phones and iPhones, is activated when a user says: “Hey Google, talk to Lifesum”, allowing them to track the following:
Meals and snacks – Logs both in a variety of sizes. Lifesum will provide tips based upon the size of the meal logged, e.g. suggesting advice on how to alleviate heartburn if a large meal has been logged.

UberEats is launching in Ireland on Thursday and will be powered by the same convenient and cashless technology that helps you get from A to B. UberEats connects users to dishes from top restaurants across Ireland, available in Dublin, Cork, Limerick and Galway.
From this Thursday, Uber will launch their popular food app – Uber Eats – in four cities across Ireland. Starting at lunchtime on 8th November, people in Dublin, Cork, Limerick and Galway can use their phones to order their next meal at the touch of an app.
The popular app has expanded to more than 75 towns and cities across the UK over the last year and this marks the company’s first launch in Ireland. Already more than 30,000 people have downloaded the Uber Eats app despite the service not yet being available in Ireland.
The Uber Eats app enables anyone to order a meal from well-known brands and local favourites including Eddie Rocket’s, Leo Burdock and Brother Hubbard.
People in Ireland can download the Uber Eats app and order from hundreds of restaurants on their smartphone (available for iOS and Android), or by visitingubereats.com.
The app is powered by the same technology that helps you get from A to B and allows you to track your delivery and pay (and tip) using the same account you use for Uber. No cash required.
Here’s how to order using Uber Eats:
1. Download the free app or go to ubereats.com to see all the restaurants available in your area. You can sign in using your existing Uber account or create a new one.

3. Find the perfect meal – browse local restaurants or search by cuisine type or dietary requirements to find exactly what your taste buds are asking for.
4. Place your order – pick the items you want right now or schedule your order to the arrive whenever is most convenient for you.
5. Track the progress of the delivery – get updates as your order is prepared and delivered to your destination. Enjoy!
The app is available every day of the week from 8:00am – midnight.
For local restaurants, the Uber Eats app means more business with additional options for delivery and thousands of potential new customers.
The Uber Eats app also offers flexible work opportunities for those with bikes or scooters, choosing when and where they want to work.
Peadar Golden, Head of Uber Eats in Ireland, said:“We’re really excited to launch Uber Eats in Ireland after months of anticipation. The fact that more than 30,000 people have already downloaded the app speaks to the big consumer demand for food delivery in Ireland. Now people in Dublin, Cork, Limerick, and Galway can get great food at the touch of a button delivered straight to their home or office. We’ve partnered with hundreds of restaurants, so there’s something for everyone’s taste.”
For a limited time, new customers can receive €10 off their first delivery (€15 minimum order). To redeem the offer enter the code ‘EATSIRELAND’ into the payments section of their Uber Eats app and click apply.
I had a long rant here some time ago about insurance companies using apps to gather information on your driving habits offering you a cheaper rate if you meet their criteria but I was not happy about this idea due to the data involved and whom and where it goes to after it is passed on by insurance companies and in general I like many here in Ireland have no love at all for them due to the stupid prices we now pay for insurance and even in my own case it has gone up every year for the last 4 years and you just cant win despite our lovely government saying they will step in and do something about it… I will just shut up now about that..
There is a new app now on the market called Targify that offers the same idea but at a cost and requires a monthly sub which immediately puts me off due to this technology already native with many companies at no charge but as mentioned they gather data on your driving habits. This is a hard sell for me but I am not knocking the idea, As is even for seasoned drivers the cost of insurance is gone up and for new drivers getting insured is an issue as is…
Where does the data go and who has access to it….
All data is sent securely from the Targify device to our secure servers which have passed World-class penetration testing. The data from your device may only be viewed by you, using the Targify smartphone App, and you must have your Username & Password to access it.
Do insurers recognise this product – Will I get a reduction in premium.
We are currently in discussions with the Motor Insurance industry with a view to securing discounts for Users of Targify. We will update this website and our newsletter subscribers when this happens.
The app provides a driver rating score too. This is calculated based on an algorithm developed using our years of experience in providing this technology to the Motor Insurance industry. Targify gives feedback on dates travelled, the route taken and acceleration of the driver.
Product description

Product Highlights Include
Risky driving behaviour monitoring
Scores driver-safety performance
Current vehicle location
Journey history
Mobile phone use while driving
Full report for analysis
Targify tells you if your son or daughter is engaging in risky driving behaviour. You get this information on your smartphone, anywhere in the World. Targify allows you to see how fast they’re driving but also delivers other information that’s as important such as:
Harsh braking: Viewed by Insurers as a key-indicator of the likelihood that a driver will have an accident
Excessive acceleration: A regular amongst young males particularly, it increases the risk of losing control or hitting pedestrians
Harsh Cornering: Taking bends too quickly can easily cause a novice driver to lose control and crash.
Current location: Allows you to know where the vehicle is at any time
Journey review: See the routes taken by the vehicle in the past
Driving Score: See how their driving improves week-on-week. We start everyone on 100 points. Points are lost for aggressive driving. 1 is terrible driving. 100 is excellent.
There is an app on Android and iOS so this means privacy issues will the said son or daughter or whoever is going to be driving the vehicle allow this to happen and be monitored wherever they go?? I will leave that up to you to decide.. Will it help with insurance costs in time without having to hand over data of some sort and is it worth the money?? You tell us below or on social.
On a daily basis, thousands of mobile applications are uploaded to Google play store & Apple app store. Every enterprise now required a mobile application as it has a lot of benefits. Nowadays we can find the application in health, education, food, real estate and almost it covers all the major sectors. But one thing is common in all the application, they all follows a similar development process. In this article, outlined is the development processes that mostly mobile App development companiesfollows.
Idea
What is your main purpose for developing a mobile application? Till now the most successful application has only one mantra that is to resolve the real-life problem. So if you identify the problem, the next thing you can do is to think about why this problem exists. Talk to experts about your identified issue. Once you have a complete grasp the whole information. Now you can start evaluating how a mobile app can solve your identified problem. Then hire a team of developers who can work on your idea.
Wireframing
Wireframes are the sketch up & mock-up design of your application. A wireframe is build up with the teamwork of developers & designers. In this phase, team decide the UI/UX of application. Mostly animation, transition, user mapping content, and the text and the layout. As you know designing, plays a vital role in website and application. Most of the people judge you on the basis of your application UI & UX. In this phase, you will decide user experience and decide how to incorporate your brand image into the mobile app.
Choosing the right platform
Once the team decided the UI/UX, then the developers will recommend you the best mobile development platforms. The recommendation will play a significant role in the whole development process. However, if you want to make a successful application, you must choose quality work. Once the design and platform have been selected, then the mobile development company start their core task- coding.
Finished product testing
This is the last phase of developing a mobile app. The step is as much critical as the whole developing process. In this phase, the developers check the code, simulate various usage scenarios, clear out the bugs, test for vulnerabilities, security and privacy issues, compatibility with various devices, and functionality in various data networks (if the app requires an internet connection for using it).
How long does this entire process take?
This highly relies on the company you select to develop the app. On an average, if you hire a professional developer, they can develop in a minimum of 300 hours of work to build a customised app which includes a high level of user interaction, graphics, and functionalities.
The mobile phone has become so powerful today it has replaced many things over the years and it is having an effect now on laptops and camera sales which are in decline some time and there is no sign of this slowing down as the mobile phone will continue to eat away at things we currently use today. You can look at that as being a bad thing and a good thing..
An effort to revive the old printed image format is also a thing today with Polaroid and FUJIFILM for examples with cameras on sale today but they have been re-designed for the digital age today and offer users to print off images but there is a cost behind it. When was the last time you sent a disposable camera or SD card into a shop to be processed and when did you last send a postcard though?
OK we can transfer our images to a laptop and that’s all grand and dandy or we can continue to post them on social media including your latest meal which being honest has got too annoying these days and everyone knows everything about everyone which I get but really we need to give it a rest and put the god dam phone away some more.
This new app is here for a similar reason and that is to revive the postcard.. When did you last send one?? I for one can’t remember and I bet a good deal of you don’t either.. Fear not though you can use your smartphone for this app not only to send images to family and friends but you can send a postcard too guys.. Aint that great!!! There is people out there that might still do and for the older folks that have no interest in powerful smartphones they love to recieve the humble postcard. Now is your chance to change things.
How does it work..
Post A Selfie couldn’t be easier to use. Simply take your photo or choose a photo from your library. Edit mode allows you to perfect your shot. Crop, customise or add a personalised message. Once you are happy, simply add the recipients address and send! The history tab keeps track of past postcards you have sent and you can even keep a record of your favorite shots.
OK so there is a cost but look at the brighter side..You dont have to go to a store to find a card, You dont have to settle for the postcards on offer in the said store, You dont have to queue in the store to pay for it. Also the cost involved. This app alows you to use your own images so you can customise it all by yourself from your mobile phone with no hassle and all done there and then without having to go looking eslewhere.. You can use it anywhere in the world too..
We have 10 FREE POSTCARDS to give away right now on Android head to our Twitter page and retweet and reply with #postaselfie and winner picked next FRIDAY.
