WexDex, a free online directory connecting County Wexford residents with trusted local tradesmen, has officially launched and is calling on more of the county’s tradespeople to join. The platform already lists 30 businesses across trades including construction, plumbing, electrical work and landscaping, giving Wexford residents a modern, digital-first alternative to word of mouth when searching for a tradesperson.
WexDex works simply: residents search a trade category, browse local businesses and get in touch directly, with no cost to list and no cost to search. Every listing also comes with:
- A free profile with contact details, trade category and location
- Direct contact between homeowner and tradesperson, with no middleman
- A built-in review system, one to five stars plus a written description, added once a job is done
The idea for WexDex took shape in Wexford Town, out of a simple, common frustration: finding a good tradesperson still meant asking a neighbour or posting in a Facebook group and hoping for a reply. With an estimated 13,000 service and trade businesses across the county and no central place to find them, WexDex was built over a single weekend to close that gap.
Before launch, the concept was tested directly in Wexford’s own Facebook groups, asking tradesmen and homeowners whether a directory was needed. The response was strongly positive, but it also surfaced a second problem: even once residents found a tradesperson, there was no way to know if the job would be done well. That gap is why WexDex was built with reviews from day one, rather than added later.
“I built WexDex because I love this county, and I could see a problem that a weekend of work could actually help fix,” said Jordana, founder of WexDex. “It’s a project built for Wexford, by someone who lives here.”
“The response from our own Facebook groups told me people wanted this, and that they wanted to know who they could trust. That’s why every listing on WexDex can be reviewed, not just found.”
The project has also started to attract attention beyond the trades themselves. Several local politicians have shared WexDex with their own followers on social media, and meetings are now being arranged with a number of them to discuss the platform further.
Looking ahead, the plan is for at least a third of County Wexford’s tradesmen to be signed up, a level that would make WexDex a genuinely reliable, first-place-to-look tool for residents, with hopes of eventually seeing it formally linked with Wexford’s local government. WexDex will remain free for tradesmen and residents alike, with an optional paid “Featured” placement for vetted, well-reviewed listings introduced only once demand grows.
