The Impact of Technology on Ireland’s Economy and Society

Technology has become a driving force in shaping economies and societies around the world, and Ireland is no exception. Over the years, Ireland has witnessed a significant impact of technology across various sectors, propelling growth, innovation, and transformation. In this article, we will explore the different ways in which technology has influenced Ireland’s economy and society, with a focus on the rise of the tech industry, advancements in education and healthcare, the impact on businesses, government services, entertainment, culture, society, and even tourism. Additionally, we will highlight the role of technology, including online gambling, in supporting the country’s economy.

The Rise of the Tech Industry in Ireland

Ireland has emerged as a prominent hub for technology companies, attracting major players such as Google, Facebook, and Microsoft. The establishment of multinational tech corporations, along with the growth of indigenous startups, has contributed to the country’s economic development. The tech industry has created numerous job opportunities and has become a significant contributor to Ireland’s GDP, showcasing the importance of technology in driving economic growth.

Impact on Entertainment, Culture, Society, and Tourism

Technology has had a significant impact on Ireland’s economy, society, and culture. In terms of the economy, one notable aspect is the growing online gambling industry. The emergence of online casinos and betting platforms has not only provided entertainment options but has also contributed significantly to the country’s economy. The online gambling sector has created jobs, generated revenue through taxation, and attracted international players, supporting the overall economic growth of Ireland.

One way to participate in the online gambling industry is to sign up with a top pay by phone casino and grab free spins. This is a great way to try out different games and see if online gambling is right for you. Many top pay by phone casinos offer free spins to new players, so you can get started without having to risk any of your own money.

In addition to the economy, technology has also had a major impact on Irish culture and society. Social media platforms have facilitated communication and social interactions, allowing individuals to connect with others across the globe. Moreover, technology has revolutionized entertainment and media consumption, with online streaming services offering a wide range of content. Additionally, technology has played a crucial role in promoting Irish tourism, with online platforms providing information, booking facilities, and virtual tours, attracting tourists from all corners of the world.

Technology in Education and Healthcare

Technology has revolutionized the education sector in Ireland, enhancing teaching methodologies and providing new avenues for learning. The integration of digital tools and online platforms has facilitated remote learning, personalized education, and access to a vast array of educational resources. Similarly, technology has transformed healthcare delivery, enabling telemedicine, electronic health records, remote monitoring, and advanced diagnostic tools. These advancements have improved patient care, increased efficiency, and reduced healthcare costs.

Impact on Irish Businesses

Technology has had a profound impact on Irish businesses, enabling them to expand their reach, streamline operations, and enhance productivity. The adoption of e-commerce platforms has facilitated online sales, allowing businesses to reach global markets. Moreover, digital marketing strategies and data analytics have helped businesses target their customers more effectively, leading to improved customer experiences and increased sales. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) have particularly benefited from technology, levelling the playing field and empowering them to compete with larger companies.

Technology in Government and Public Services

The Irish government has embraced technology to modernize public services and improve governance. Digital initiatives, such as the eGovernment strategy and the development of online portals, have simplified administrative processes, making it easier for citizens and businesses to interact with government services. The digitization of public records, tax filing, and online payment systems has increased efficiency and transparency. Furthermore, the use of technology in data analytics has helped government agencies make informed decisions and develop evidence-based policies.

Conclusion

Technology has permeated every aspect of Irish society and has had a profound impact on the country’s economy. From the rise of the tech industry to advancements in education, healthcare, government services, culture, and tourism, technology has transformed Ireland’s landscape. Looking ahead, the future of technology in Ireland holds immense potential for continued growth and innovation. By embracing emerging technologies and fostering digital literacy, Ireland can further strengthen its position as a global leader in the technology sector, driving economic prosperity and improving the quality of life for its citizens.

Tech Review – ASUS Zenfone 10 Rhinoshield SolidSuit case

The ASUS Zenfone 10 is certainly one beast of a phone and we have one here and continuing out testing as we speak and so far I am mighty impressed.Luckily enough we also have some cases for the phone and accessories to test out with it and they are important to protect your phone and make life easier especially with the accessories pack we have in our next review.

As cases go this is a simple case to apply to your phone and works really well giving you additional grip and protection of your shiny new phone that you should keep protected as we all know a drop can be expensive.  The case protects the front of the device with a nice lip going around the screen with extra depth ports giving additional protection yet any cable with fit through as with some case the charging port would not allow thicker cables in this one does and you will see what I mean in the video review below.

The keys are angled making it easy to navigate and there is a sloped cutout where the power on/off key is, the camera lens is also raised as there is two different sized humps here and it also stops the rocking on a table effect, the case has a nice carbon fibre look finish to it and will work with wireless chargers, you should pick one up.

SolidSuit series now offers MagSafe-compatible versions for your iPhone, giving you 2x the magnetic force to keep your device securely in place. Say goodbye to dropped phones and hello to peace of mind with the SolidSuit MagSafe case.

Tech Review – ASUS Zenfone 10 Connex Accessories Set

When it comes to accessories for our smartphones there is plenty to pick from but none like this set which is modular and allows you to pick between to pieces to suit your needs at a given time which is kind of a neat idea I must add and not seen before in this format. This is kind of a 3 in 1 kit giving you a protective shell and then two pieces that can be added by clipping onto the case itself hence being modular.

The shell alone does a good job protecting your device albeit a bit on the glossy side on the rear and slippy and it has lots of perforations on the case to allow you to stick on either the card holder or phone stand which is neat. The card holder is neat and made with a nice material and will hold at a guess up to three cards from my testing and keep them secure, the texture of the cad holder also gives you additional grip on the case too and if one card is in it or even three in my testing they will not fall out so it is for most people out there today who carry card and it looks much better than those wallet styled cases that are bulky and cumbersome..

ASUS Zenfone 10 – Connex accessories set – techbuzzireland

Overall this is the ideal case for those who want that bit more from an accessory pack giving them more than one option and it is certainly worth investing in. Check the video below for more.

ASUS Unveils the Mighty New Zenfone 10. First look and walkthrough

ASUS today announced the mighty new Zenfone 10, the latest generation of this iconic hand-sized 5.9″ smartphone that redefines expectations for compact smartphones.

Zenfone 10 heralds a new era where compact means powerful, and small is the new big. It’s powered by the flagship Snapdragon® 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform, along with the latest LPDDR5X memory and UFS 4.0 ROM technologies for the ultimate performance. But amazingly, battery life has been increased by almost 13%,1 with no change in battery capacity. Convenient Qi-compatible wireless charging has also been added.

The advanced 144 Hz3 AMOLED display on Zenfone 10 delivers ultra vivid colors in any conditions, and visuals are enhanced even further in collaboration with leading visual-processing company Pixelworks®.

The camera system on Zenfone 10 has been seriously upgraded, incorporating the latest 6-Axis Hybrid Gimbal Stabilizer 2.0 and new algorithms for rock-steady videos. To usher in the next generation of mobile video, there’s also a new Adaptive EIS electronic image stabilization system, along with OZO Audio-powered 3D surround-sound recording capabilities. Selfie capabilities have also been massively enhanced, with a 32 MP front camera featuring an RGBW sensor and large 1.4 μm pixels for outstanding low-light image capture.

We’ve also given Zenfone 10 even more intelligence, leveraging advanced AI features to elevate the user experience to new heights. From advanced UI tweaks to intelligent camera features, Zenfone 10 adapts to the user’s needs and preferences, and helps make every interaction intuitive and effortless.

The stylish Zenfone 10 is available in a choice of five refreshing colors, including three new shades, and all inspired by the harmonizing colors of the cosmos. It’s also built with sustainability in mind, incorporating eco-friendly bio-based polycarbonate materials and an increased proportion of recyclable packaging.

Mighty On Hand: compact and powerful

Until today, smartphone users have had to choose between compact or powerful, but the mighty Zenfone 10 changes everything.

It’s designed for effortless one-handed operation, is powered by the flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform, and includes high-performance LPDDR5X 8533 Mbps RAM and USF 4.0 ROM technology, so users now don’t need to compromise when choosing a phone that fits in the palm of their hand. And with its Snapdragon Elite Gaming features, Zenfone 10 offers true mobile gaming capabilities and smooth multitasking to rise to every challenge.

The advanced 144Hz AMOLED display on Zenfone 10 offers incredible Delta E <1 color accuracy and ultra-smooth scrolling, along with wide 151.9% sRGB and cinema-grade 112% DCI-P3 color gamuts for ultra vivid colors in any conditions. Collaboration with leading visual-processing company Pixelworks takes the excellent visuals even further with world-beating color accuracy.

Zenfone 10 is seriously stylish too, with three new cosmos-inspired colors — Aurora Green, Eclipse Red and Comet White — joining the ever-popular Starry Blue and Midnight Black.

We love our planet, and so does Zenfone 10. Its eco-friendly bio-based polycarbonate back cover5 reduces our use of petrochemicals and helps in our mission to minimize our carbon footprint. The packaging’s more recyclable too, using recycled paper and soy-based inks.

Stability, on hand: 6-Axis Hybrid Gimbal Stabilizer 2.0

The second-generation 6-Axis Hybrid Gimbal Stabilizer 2.0 in the 50 MP rear camera keeps videos even more blur-free and shake-free, even when the camera is moving. This innovative gimbal OIS monitors Zenfone 10’s every movement, in every direction, and uses that information to adjust the whole camera module in real time. It can compensate for shifts of up to +/- 3 °, so it can help smooth out even the wildest action, without optical distortion or ‘ghosting’. Combined with the ultrafast autofocus technology — which focuses quickly and reacts smoothly to changes — and hardware anti-shake EIS algorithms, Zenfone 10 delivers super-smooth, professional-looking action shots, whatever the subject.

Adding to 6-Axis Hybrid Gimbal Stabilizer 2.0’s superior anti-shake capabilities is its new Adaptive EIS technology. This uses the built-in gyro to detect movement, allowing dynamic adjustments to the size of the field of view to keep videos rock-steady at all times.

OZO Audio technology gives users the choice of eliminating wind noise for crystal-clear outdoor recordings, or capturing immersive, high-fidelity 3D Surround spatial audio.

The photography experience has been further improved with the ability to access the Light Trail mode and Quick Shot functions even when the phone’s screen is turned off. Quick Shot is a new feature that allows users to capture a photo instantly with a double-press of the volume key.

Selfies, on hand: 32 MP front camera with RGBW sensor

The upgraded 32 MP front camera on Zenfone 10 now features an RGBW sensor with large 1.4 μm pixels, giving the camera exceptional low-light performance. White pixels are added to the traditional RGB pixels, improving the overall image quality when capturing images in a dim environment. The advanced night scene algorithms help to deliver night-vision-grade selfies. When taking selfies at night or indoors with Zenfone 10, the foreground subjects have a natural skin tone, clear contours, and well-defined light and shadows. The background lighting and detail is also fully preserved.

Other camera modes have also been enhanced. Portrait mode has been upgraded with more flexible zoom options, and Light Trail mode now lets users capture professional-grade photos handheld, with no need for a tripod.

Endurance, on hand: Up to 2X battery life, new charging options

Using power-efficient CPU and components, we’ve improved Zenfone 10’s battery life by up to 12.9%, even though it has the same 4300 mAh battery capacity as its predecessor.

We’ve also added a new 30 W HyperCharge capability for maximum charging performance, and for convenience Zenfone 10 now also supports wireless charging via any Qi-compatible wireless charger.

UNBOXING AND WALKTHROUGH

Deliveroo Reveals Future Food Trends in 2040 in ‘Snack To The Future’ Report

Welcome to the future of food delivery and enjoyment in 2040. From desktop to dining table, bench to beach, Deliveroo has launched a SNACK TO THE FUTURE report, bringing together leading futurists and experts from the worlds of food, science, technology and innovation to create a forward-looking view of how the nation will be eating by 2040 and how our dinner tables are set to revolutionise.

The SNACK TO THE FUTURE report from Deliveroo and guest experts including Georgie Barrat (Technology Journalist and TV Presenter) and Tom Cheesewright (applied Futurist), reveals key predictions and technological advancements by 2040 that are set to rock consumers’ worlds, including:

  • BREATH-PRINTS: Find out how breath-prints will make our future food decisions for us. Expect personal tech devices to be enabled with BreathTech, meaning you can breathe on your device and get a deep level of insight into what foods you should be eating to have optimal impact on your individual health and wellbeing

  • ME-GANSIM: Move over Keto, the predicted next big thing in dieting and set to be the mainstream diet of the future, is the Me-gan diet (Me-ganism); a hyper-personalised diet which is fully bespoke to your individual nutritional needs,  powered by AI technology

  • PERSONAL AIs: Underpinning the Me-gan diet and lifestyle, AI technology will offer you your own personal AI (a life long AI buddy) which will help automate and tailor what you are eating based on preferences and needs at any given time

  • FOODGASMS: Food that makes you feel… food delivery services will be using additional digital audio and visual content to elevate the meal enjoyment experience, so much so that it could take food pleasure to the next level with ‘foodgasms’ (braingasms via what you eat)

  • EDIBLE BEAUTY: Get ready to see the food and beauty industry become more integrated than ever with a rise in edible beauty products like anti-aging ice-cream and the chance to dine from hormone-balancing and dopamine driving menus

  • 3D PRINTED MEAL PLANS: From packed lunches to printed lunches, food prep is about to become a lot easier with advances in 3D printing technology helping you create perfectly portioned and nutritionally balanced meals, of your choice, at home

  • VR DINNER PARTIES: Dine with celebrities, royals and late loved ones in your favourite holiday destination, or recreate food moments from famous movies thanks to VR technology, which will simulate dining experiences from the comfort of your home – think: enjoying a delightful breakfast at Tiffany’s, while you’re tucking into a bacon sandwich on the sofa

  • FAREWELL FUSSY EATERS: Thanks to VR and AR technology, your brains could be tricked into thinking you are eating something you are not, for example, if you are a fussy eater who doesn’t want to eat vegetables, you could put on smart glasses and think you are eating chocolate or sweets

  • RESTORATIVE RESTAURANTS: New restaurant concepts will remove outside world distractions, with personal tech devices banned at entry and a rise in the popularity of silent cafés and restaurants, ONLY offering tables for one to encourage mindful eating

  • PASS THE AMARANTH: Whole grain staples, such as corn or maize, are about to look very different with alternatives such as amaranth, fonio, sorghum, teff, khorasan, einkorn and emmer,  all likely to be mainstream in 2040

  • ALT-OHOL: As the nation increasingly seeks alcohol alternatives, we can expect to see a rise in popularity of ‘wine’ cordials that mimic the taste and flavour profile of real wine, without the negatives

SNACK TO THE FUTURE: 2040 is commissioned by Deliveroo and written by Avansere with contributions from Will Shu (CEO and founder at Deliveroo) and;

  • Carlo Mocci (Chief Business Officer UK & Ireland at Deliveroo)

  • Devesh Mishra (Chief Product and Technology Officer at Deliveroo)

  • Georgie Barrat (Technology Journalist and TV Presenter)

  • Sarah DaVanzo (Quantitative data-driven Futurist, experienced start-up Entrepreneur, Agency Leader and F500 Corporate Executive)

  • Tom Cheesewright (applied Futurist helping people and organisations to see, share, and respond to a clearer vision of tomorrow)

  • Kaave Pour (Co-Founder of Space10, IKEA’s independent research and design lab)

  • Tracey Pollard (Managing Director of Bruce Gillingham Pollard)

QUOTE FROM WILL SHU, FOUNDER AND CEO OF DELIVEROO:

“I started Deliveroo in 2013 with a mission to connect people to the best quality food from local restaurants and deliver it directly to people’s doors. It has been an incredible ride over the past ten years and I am really proud of what we have built. As we look towards the next decade and beyond, Deliveroo will continue to create exciting new innovations in food delivery, build new and better consumer experiences and take Deliveroo beyond functionality and convenience to really capture the passion and emotion of food.”

Three of the expert predictions have been brought to life in incredibly detailed renders, showcasing how the future of food and food ordering could look by 2040.

Deliveroo’s SNACK TO THE FUTURE report predicts that in 2040, your diet could become fully bespoke thanks to AI technology, and food delivery services could synchronise meal options with your Personal AI and provide recommendations based on your physiological state at any given time.

Deliveroo’s SNACK TO THE FUTURE report predicts in 2040, you could desire a deeper connection with your food and visit ‘restorants’ to restore your mind, as well as your body. Smart glasses will be left at the door and ‘flavour concentration booths’ could fully immerse you in the look, sound, aroma and taste of a meal by simulating natural environments like forests, seasides and even being in the clouds.

Deliveroo’s SNACK TO THE FUTURE report predicts that in 2040, you could use augmented and virtual reality technologies to create multi-sensory food experiences and simulate dining somewhere else in the world or eating with others elsewhere in the world from the comfort of your home.

More takeaways from the report below with standout quotes:

The ground-breaking SNACK TO THE FUTURE report, from Deliveroo, forecasts everything from what you’ll be eating, how you’ll be eating and who you’ll be eating with, in three chapters:

  • CHAPTER 1: Your personal food experiences are set to be heightened. Get ready for ‘ME-GANISM’ — diets that are bespoke to your individual biological, physical and mental needs. With the development of PERSONAL AI’s (a life-long AI buddy), this technology could be adopted to predict your unique nutritional needs and deliver personalised meal bundles that benefit your body and mind. Smart cooking, cleaning and food circulation devices (to recycle and reuse food) could redefine how you eat at home. Meanwhile, advances in 3D FOOD PRINTING could enable you to customise the shape, density, look and feel of food to suit your desires

Tom Cheesewright (Applied Futurist):

“I can imagine that a rite of passage for someone in 2040 might not be about getting their first phone or first car. It could be getting their first, and only, Personal AI, who could then become a lifelong partner. And it could be these Personal AI’s that could advise and manage people’s personalised diets.”

  • CHAPTER 2: The desire for healthy, local and sustainable foods will increase existentially, but will use powerful, everyday technologies to understand where meals come from, how they are made, and what they consist of. New forms of nutrition could be available and affordable, and there could be a growing emphasis on MINDFUL MUNCHING experiences as you and the nation seek peace of mind. Meanwhile, the food and beauty industry will become more integrated than ever, promoting beauty and wellness from the inside out through the creation of EDIBLE BEAUTY PRODUCTS – say goodbye to anti-ageing cream and hello to anti-ageing ice cream

Georgie Barrat (Technology Journalist and TV Presenter):

“I can see people having a simulation of someone that has got the same genetic makeup as them and then they can see the impact of different eating choices over a long period of time. So someone could check to see what they look like if they stick to a vegan diet, how their body could respond, and what their health condition could be like in 10 or 20 year’s time.”

  • CHAPTER 3: The development in AI, TECHNOLOGY, AUGMENTED AND VIRTUAL REALITIES will begin to drastically change the way you dine, enhancing where, how and what you eat and drink – your digital and physical engagement with food will fully converge. Virtual reality could get so sophisticated that you will feel like you are sitting and eating with others from around the world or having Breakfast at Tiffany’s while you eat a bacon sandwich on the sofa at home! VIRTUAL FOOD TOURISM means you could be able to discover local restaurant specialties or fine-dine in whichever location you dream of. In addition, DIGITAL GAME-INFUSED DINING could create playful, immersive and meditative meal-time experiences and FOOD-GASMS could become a reality!

Devesh Mishra (Chief Product and Technology Officer at Deliveroo):

“It may not replace the real thing, but I can imagine being able to experience a simulation of a top holiday destination like Thailand, and enjoying the world’s best Pad Thai dish, with my family, from the comfort of our home. That would be amazing.”

Personalised and convenient. Augmented and virtual — the future of food delivery and enjoyment is set to be an intriguing, immersive and innovative space to see emerge. With many new and exciting opportunities to eat anywhere, anytime and with anyone, the future of meal delivery is most certainly going to be a transformative space.

Poolbeg Pharma – Successful Artificial Intelligence led programme identifies multiple influenza drug targets

Poolbeg Pharma (AIM: POLB, OTCQB: POLBF, ‘Poolbeg’ or the ‘Company’), a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focusing on infectious and other prevalent diseases with a high unmet medical need, announces a significant breakthrough in its world first influenza Artificial Intelligence (‘AI’) Programme with CytoReason. Poolbeg has been working with CytoReason since March 2022.

Poolbeg’s unique disease progression data from influenza human challenge trials combined with CytoReason’s broad repositories of curated disease data were analysed using CytoReason’s industry-leading AI-led platform. The analysis has led to the discovery of multiple novel drug targets for the treatment of influenza.

Identification of drug targets from this unique data-set has previously been successful as p38 MAP Kinase, inhibited by POLB 001, was identified as a driver of severe influenza but this required manual analysis that took several years. However, through the utilisation of CytoReason’s cutting-edge AI technology, Poolbeg has now identified multiple novel drug targets in just 15 months. Moreover, CytoReason’s analysis independently confirmed the significance of the p38 MAP kinase pathway in influenza, providing further validation for Poolbeg’s POLB 001 programme.

The Company is actively exploring the most effective way to further develop the novel drug targets in order to generate value and looks forward to updating shareholders about the progress of this programme in due course. This marks Poolbeg’s second successful AI Programme, following the identification of potential new drug candidates for Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) announced in December 2022.

Jeremy Skillington, PhD, Chief Executive Officer of Poolbeg Pharma, commented: “Our collaboration with CytoReason has put Poolbeg at the forefront of AI drug discovery. CytoReason’s deep interrogation of the uniquely rich data derived from human challenge trials has deepened our knowledge of influenza, resulting in the identification of multiple novel influenza drug targets. There is a significant unmet need for new and better treatments for vulnerable patients with influenza and this is a major milestone in the delivery of new therapies that can improve patient outcomes and global health.”

David Harel, Chief Executive Officer of CytoReason, said:

“Once again, we’re pleased to see that leveraging CytoReason’s computational disease models to extract insights from Poolbeg’s unique human challenge data can optimise the target discovery process. More importantly, these impressive results would not be possible without the commitment, transparency, and reciprocity of both teams.”
