While searching for a job, you normally get tons of advice on what to do, but unfortunately, most of it turns out ineffective. Well, it is no surprise since job searching isn’t just about applying for jobs and hoping to get called for an interview anymore. 

Only some people are able to simply put in an application, get an interview, and land a new job in today’s competitive, network-driven job market. The most successful job seekers utilize a variety of strategies, from establishing a social presence to targeting companies, to help them stand out from the crowd. 

Customize your resume and cover letter

Your resume is the main weapon for your job hunt. It is important to take your time and write a concise resume and cover letter. A resume is used to make a favorable impression on a prospective employer and is often the first impression a potential employer has of you. Without a favorable initial impression, a prospective employer is likely to stop considering you as a suitable candidate for the job on offer and move on to other candidates who have provided better resumes.  

When creating your resume, the purpose is to create a targeted resume or an achievement-oriented resume that highlights your accomplishments that are relevant to the job you are applying for. Ask a friend, family member, coworker, career counselor, or other professional to proofread your resume and cover letter for errors, as well as to offer advice. This will save you the embarrassment of formatting or grammatical mistakes that may go unnoticed to you. 

Customizing your resume to fit the job you want is crucial. As you find job listings that interest you, follow up by researching the hiring companies before you apply. Researching the hiring company will enable you to know if you would want to work with them as it will provide you with information about their company culture, benefits and salary range, products and services, work environment, and more. It will also enable you to tailor and customize your resume and cover letter to meet the demands of the post offered. 

Additionally, if you end up getting an interview for a position, it is always beneficial to be prepared and to already have some knowledge about the company. Being informed helps you make a good impression as well as gives you the opportunity to ask questions.


Two great questions to ask during the interview are:

  • Why is the position available?
  • What determines a good or bad day on the job?

The answers to these questions will provide you with information on the specifics of the vacancy of your potential role and give insight regarding day-to-day expectations.

Use your network

Networking is about establishing and nurturing long-term, mutually beneficial relationships with the people you meet. A large and strong network of contacts results in more job opportunities. Networking – in person and online – is essential to your success in your job search. No matter the age, building connections is still the most prominent means by which people find jobs. In fact, experts agree that the most connected people are often the most successful. 

The right employee referral can increase your chances tenfold of landing the job. Ace the interview

A job interview, of course, is what will or will not grant you the job offer. Acing the interview should be a priority in your search. Therefore you should take the time to prepare yourself well. Before the interview, develop responses for common interview questions and then practice them – ideally using the mock-interviewing technique with a friend, network contact, or interview coach. The more prepared you are for the interview, the more comfortable you’ll be, and the more likely you’ll succeed. 

Dress smartly during the actual day and wow the interviewer with your skills, experience, confidence, and expertise. It’s also advisable to follow up post-interviews with a thank you note. Use your thank-you note as an opportunity to emphasize why you’re the best candidate for the position. If you flubbed an answer during the interview, you can also use your thank you note to clarify (just ensure it doesn’t come off like you’re making excuses). 

The search for a job may take longer than you expect. In fact, even after you go for interviews, the results will take time before you get them. Patience is, therefore, essential in the long process of job hunting. Understand that it’s a process, and try not to overwhelm yourself. If you have done your research and are prepared, then it’s only a matter of time before you get hired.

Argos to close ALL 34 stores and operations in Republic of Ireland #Argos

Argos has announced that it intends to close all stores and operations in the Republic of Ireland at the end of June this year. Argos is a retailer of general merchandise products, including toys, technology and consumer electronics. It arrived at the decision to leave Ireland following a long period of careful consideration and a thorough review of its business and operations in the country. Argos concluded the investment required to develop and modernise the Irish part of its business was not viable and that the money would be better invested in other parts of its business.

Argos operates a bespoke model in the Republic of Ireland that is significantly different to its wider UK operation and today’s announcement only relates to Argos stores in the Republic of Ireland. There will be no change to the retailer’s operations in Northern Ireland, Scotland, England and Wales, where Argos is performing well and collectively has over 1,000 points of presence. This includes 253 standalone stores and 422 Argos stores inside Sainsbury’s stores, as well as Argos Click and Collect inside over 400 other Sainsbury’s stores.

Everyone at Argos recognises that today’s news will be unsettling for all its colleagues, some of whom have served Argos customers in Ireland for many years, and disappointing for its loyal customers.

Argos is committed to doing everything it can to support its people and is talking to 580 colleagues[1], across 34 stores in the Republic of Ireland about their options. As part of its consultation with colleagues and Mandate, the recognised trade union, Argos will propose an enhanced redundancy package that goes well beyond its statutory obligations. The small number of colleagues not eligible for redundancy under Irish Law are expected to receive a one-off goodwill payment. To further support colleagues, Argos has also committed to a programme of wider support over the coming months.

Andy McClelland, Argos Ireland Operations Manager, said: “We understand this is difficult news for our customers and colleagues. As with any major change to our business, we have not made this decision lightly and we are doing everything we can to support those impacted. On behalf of everyone at Argos I would like to thank our colleagues, customers, suppliers and partners for their support to our business.” 

Argos stores will remain open to customers in the Republic of Ireland until 24th June 2023[2]. Following today’s announcement, Argos will begin the process of gradually winding down its Irish business. As part of this, customers in Ireland will no longer be able to pay for orders via the Argos website or place orders via its home delivery service after 22nd March 2023. Orders placed up to this date will continue to be fulfilled and customers will still be able to reserve products online and pay for them in store until the point of business closure.

The aftersales, returns, refunds and exchanges policy will continue to apply until Argos stores close. Customers will be able find more information here [3] about how this policy will continue, in line with the retailer’s statutory obligations, after its stores have closed.

Argos is communicating its overall decision to colleagues, customers, landlords, suppliers and other stakeholders today in order to give them as much time as possible to plan accordingly.

Tech Review – EMEET Meeting Capsule 360° Video Conference Camera with 8 Mics, Hi-Fi Speaker

When it comes to working from home or the office conference calls can be part of the daily routine and it happens quite often here with myself and having the right tools is essential to do the job at hand but how many tools do you need to get the job done, you could look at this as an all in one package though by looking at it you might not see how it works and this is what makes this piece of kit something different and quite unique and it is pretty cool too.

We have tested many conference kits here and this is the latest offering from the company who strive to give us good products at affordable prices and we use some of their kit still today and they work really well which is something to take note of.

The product itself is super robust and perhaps bigger than one would be use to having at home but maybe no the case in an office environment, it is simple to use with a remote control that is also simple to use and has all the buttons down one side of the device where there is LED status lights on the opposite site and then up top is where the magic happens the 360 degree panoramic HD camera that can be also turned off and muted like the audio when not in use.

OK so how does this work, well there is plenty of AI here involved which is pretty cool and it is a simple set-up and works cross platform and you can download some additional software if you like but there is no need to it is a plug and play product which what people like to see with no hassle to get moving. You have one cable to connect to your PC it will not work with a mobile phone  nor can you ad and external mic and you have on power cable for the device itself so it is not one of those systems that have wires for each individual at the table or product to match.

There is a cool speaker built in too which you can use during the conference calls etc or just even as a personal speaker and it has a good sound with some nice bass built in.

There is 5 modes of use here which covers all aspects.

1. Collaboration Mode

Under EMEET Meeting Capsule’s collaboration mode, all attendees’ 360° panoramic picture and main 1-3 speaker’ split screens will be shown on the same screen simultaneously. In the split screen, one speaker will be tracked and displayed, and when she/he isn’t talking anymore, she/he will be removed from the screen, ensuring the new speaker becomes the next on-screen speaker. By using this mode, all participants concentrate on not only the speakers but also the listeners.2. Speech Mode

Under EMEET Meeting Capsule’s speech mode, all attendees’ 360° panorama picture and only 1 speaker’s split slide will be displayed at the same time on the screen. If the former speaker stops talking, the device will automatically center on the latter speaker. Besides, the image can be adjusted via the remote control. In a speech occasion, the conference room webcam is the best choice to deliver the speaker’s expression content.

3. Classic Mode

Under EMEET Meeting Capsule’s classic mode, people in front of the 180° wide-angle device will be shown in a non-split screen. For a stabler and clearer image, the AI capturing tech is closed here. The webcam with remote control can be used to adjust the image and degree. The classic mode’s FOV (Field of View) is 180/120/60 degrees, being able to be adjusted by the remote control. The conference webcam is great for medium to large meetings.

4. Spotlight Mode

Under EMEET Meeting Capsule’s spotlight mode, the conference webcam becomes a personal video conference camera, which means you can choose the part you would like to show on the non-split screen. Auto capturing tech is forbidden here for a high-definition imaging. Both remote control and eMeetLink can be used to change the FOV between 60-95 degree. You are the only one who enjoys the 3 in 1 smart video conference system in the spotlight mode.

5. In-privacy Mode

Under EMEET Meeting Capsule’s privacy mode, you will enjoy both electronic privacy and physical privacy. To cut off the image transmission, the electronic 360 webcam flips the lens to 0° and the whole physical cap turns to 0°. Meanwhile, the microphone will quit picking up voice immediately. However, the 10W HIFI speaker continues to work to deliver the other side’s voice. Privacy mode is frequently used during your side’s negotiation and decision time.

Fast-growing tech business SciLeads aiming for new heights with plans to double workforce

Belfast-based scientific software company SciLeads has unveiled plans to create up to 50 new jobs over the next two years after announcing its workforce has grown to a team of 50 as of this month.

Launched in Belfast in 2016 by friends Daniel McRitchie, Laura Haldane and James Campbell, SciLeads is an innovative lead generation and market intelligence platform that helps scientific companies identify, engage and close their ideal buyers.

SciLeads has created the most comprehensive and accurate database of scientific researchers, helping sales and marketing teams quickly identify who needs their products for their research.

The company placed 14th in the 2022 Deloitte Technology Fast 50 list, which ranks the fastest growing technology companies based on revenue growth over a four-year period. The previous year, the business was the top ranked Northern Ireland company on the list placing 11th, making this its second year in the top 20.

SciLeads began 2021 with 20 staff but having recruited across a number of roles it reached the milestone of 50 employees by the end of 2022. Now, with a strong pipeline of work, plans to launch new products, as well as further expansion into Asian markets, the company has projected that it will need to double its workforce to 100 by 2024 to manage the demand for its services.

Next-generation PowerEdge servers provide improved performance, including the Dell PowerEdge R760, which delivers up to 2.9x greater AI inferencing on 4th Gen Intel Xeon Scalable processors with Intel Deep Learning Boost and Intel Advanced Matrix Extensions The PowerEdge R760 also offers up to a 20% increase in VDI users and over 50% more SAP Sales & Distribution users on one server, compared to the previous generation. PowerEdge systems may be ordered with NVIDIA Bluefield-2 data processing units to provide additional offload, acceleration and workload isolation capabilities idea for power efficiency for private, hybrid and multicloud deployments.
