Sony introduces HT-A3000 Soundbar

Sony today announced the HT-A3000 soundbar, delivering an acclaimed 360 Spatial Sound experience ideal for a wide range of customers, that puts you at the heart of your favourite movies and music. Sony Europe also confirms the availability of its highly anticipated HT-A5000 soundbar.

Surround sound at your fingertips

The HT-A3000 features 3.1 channels, three front speakers including a dedicated centre speaker for clear dialogue, and a built-in dual subwoofer for deep bass. Coupled with Vertical Surround Engine and S-Force PRO Front Surround, the A3000 creates virtual surround sound that comes from multiple dimensions so you can fully enjoy the thrill of Dolby Atmos® and DTS:X®.

360 Spatial Sound Mapping

The A3000 gives you access to Sony’s revolutionary 360 Spatial Sound Mapping technology when connected to Sony’s wireless rear speakers SA-RS5 and SA-RS3S.

With 360 Spatial Sound Mapping technology, you can feel sound from every direction and distance. Sound Field Optimisation uses built-in microphones to ingeniously measure the relative height and position of the soundbar and rear speakers. Based on positional information, it then creates multiple phantom speakers by synthesising sound waves. Thanks to this technology, Sony’s wide spatial sound field fills every part of the room, immersing everyone present.

Optional speakers, your way

Adding an optional wireless subwoofer that handles low frequencies allows the system to reproduce sound with greater impact and power than before. Two models are available, designed to bring out deeper bass, more vocal clarity, and extra fidelity in all types of audio content.

You can add the SA-SW5 subwoofer with 300W of deep, rich bass from a 180mm driver with passive radiator or, opt for the SA-SW3 subwoofer with 200W of sound from a compact bass reflex subwoofer with a 160mm driver.

To take your home cinema experience to new heights, add the SA-RS5 wireless rear speakers with a total 180W of wider surround sound. Featuring up-firing speakers, the SA-RS5 creates richer and more immersive 360 Spatial Sound as well as built-in battery power or, opt for the SA-RS3S wireless rear speakers with a total 100W.

Best with Sony TVs

The A3000 allows you to enhance your home cinema experience further by pairing with compatible BRAVIA XR TVs. Using the Acoustic Center Sync[5] feature, both the soundbar and BRAVIA XR TV become the centre speaker in the home cinema system. Action and sound become precisely aligned, creating complete immersion. You’ll even hear dialogue from exactly where the character is standing in the scene.

Additionally, Acoustic Center Sync works together with the 360 Spatial Sound Mapping setup to deliver a clearer dialogue and more immersive viewing experience than ever before.

Stream your favourite tracks

With the A3000, your music truly comes to life. You can discover a new way of listening with 360 Reality Audio[6] that offers an incredibly immersive live concert or studio session experience. You can also enjoy 360 Reality Audio on Amazon Music HD, nugs.net and TIDAL.

On the A3000 you can easily access popular music services like Spotify and stream all your favourite albums and playlists using Chromecast, Spotify Connect™ or Apple AirPlay 2. You can also stream wirelessly from your smartphone with Bluetooth🄬 technology or use the built-in Wi-Fi to stream music from your own devices.

The A3000 features DSEE Extreme™, which uses Edge-AI to allow for real-time restoration of all your compressed digital music files. This ensures you can restore the high-range sound that is lost in compression for a richer, more complete listening experience.

Voice control

The soundbar works with Google-assistant with Chromecast built-in or Amazon Alexa enabled devices. Just add the A3000 to your speaker group using the Google Home app to start playing music, change the volume or many other functions using just your voice.

Sleek design

The A3000 and optional speakers have been designed under a common Omnidirectional Block concept. Its sophisticated rounded edges represent a single solid block providing wide-spreading sound, while the combination of rich material textures emphasise an affinity with any living room environment.

Easy connection

The A3000 is almost ready to go straight out of the box. Simply connect to your TV using the HDMI eARC connection and power on. With USB, optical in, as well as HDMI out (eARC) and S-CENTER OUT for compatible BRAVIA TVs, you have all the connections you need to enjoy a breath-taking surround sound experience.

Pricing and availability

The A3000 will be priced at approximately €699/£599 and is available in Europe from October 2022.

Top technologies in 2022

Technology continues its unstoppable innovation, bringing new solutions to society. Perhaps some of them, as is the case of the metaverse, are not so important or socially relevant. However, in other cases we can find technologies that can have an application that can bring a lot to society, especially in certain countries, as is the case of Blockchain technology.

Metaverse

Many people may wonder what the metaverse can really contribute to people’s lives. In the opinion of many experts, perhaps little. What they can do is change the way we enjoy some experiences or perhaps envelop them with new sensations. For example, there are websites that claim that the metaverse will play an important role in casino games and the like. For example, being able to simulate the presence of the player in a real casino room, being able to enjoy from the comfort of your home the feeling of being in the gaming room of the best casinos in the world. For example, you will be able to visit and play at the tables of the Monte Carlo casino from the sofa of your home.

Some media also point to the possibility that we can have much more immersive distance learning experiences similar to a traditional classroom with physical presence and direct contact between student and teacher. In fact, online education can undergo a great evolution if it can fit well within an educational metaverse. Being able to ask questions to the teacher in real time in a much closer way than by a simple video call can make some trainings that are developed within the metaverse increase the quality and above all the knowledge that the student can obtain.

Blockchain

As for blockchain, large projects of great social significance have been generated within it. Blockchain technology should not be confused with cryptocurrencies, as they do not necessarily go together. Cryptocurrencies use blockchain technology, but they are not the same thing. For example, some of the most innovative projects using blockchain technology allow the donations that countries and individuals give to developing countries to be traced and, in a transparent way, it can be seen what that money is spent on and in whose hands it goes. This is something that can contribute to overcome the inequality that exists between many third world countries and more developed countries, since having the possibility of controlling and verifying what the donations are destined to, many more people may want to contribute to these countries without fearing that the money ends up diverted to the accounts of corrupt politicians in these less developed countries. In addition, the NGOs that may receive the funds will have full traceability of the money, being able to be transparent with their donors at all times.

In this aspect there are numerous social projects or projects of social interest that can be developed on the Blockchain, although few end up coming to fruition. In many cases, large sums of money are needed to finance the project, so they need to obtain funding and these times are not very good in that aspect, as many venture capital funds have stopped investing in companies that are not profitable and can offer a return on their investment in the short term, due to the crisis we are experiencing globally at the moment.

Artificial Intelligence

Undoubtedly the best example of the evolution of technology. This year there has even been news about the possible or theoretical consciousness that some artificial intelligences could have of themselves. However, artificial intelligence is something that will help many sectors in the coming years. One sector where a lot of work is being done with artificial intelligence is in the healthcare sector, where it is expected that artificial intelligence could help save many lives with artificial intelligence-based treatments and diagnoses in order to always do what is optimal for the patient.

Google even offers training on artificial intelligence so that users and developers can contribute to the ecosystem and take artificial intelligence to a new level where it can really have a great impact in favor of society in many different areas.

Ørsted announces acquisition of its first solar project in Ireland

Leading global renewable energy company Ørsted has today announced the acquisition of its first Irish solar project, in an agreement with renewable energy developer Terra Solar. This acquisition is a strategic first step in Ørsted’s commitment to multi-technology deployment in Ireland across a variety of renewable energy sources.

The acquisition of the Ballinrea solar project, located between Carrigaline and Cork City, will power up to 16,000 homes. With construction due to begin in 2024, the Ballinrea Solar Farm is expected to be operational by 2025 and will add a further 65MW of solar to Ørsted’s global goal of 17.5GW of onshore renewables by 2030. Ranked the world’s most sustainable energy company*, Ørsted’s Irish headquarters are based in Cork City, where it employs 90 people.

Kieran White, Vice President, Ørsted Europe Onshore said: “For Ireland to ensure energy resilience and deliver its 2030 energy targets, it is essential that multiple technologies are delivered in tandem, from solar and onshore wind to offshore wind and storage. This is a key priority for Ørsted, both in Ireland and overseas. Projects such as Ballinrea pave the way, but significant investment in our electricity grid is required to match the ambition of Government targets, continue the push to net zero and ensure energy security long-term.”

“The Ballinrea Solar Farm will make a meaningful contribution to Ireland’s national energy target of 80% renewables by 2030 as well as to the Government’s new 5.5GW solar target. It will also enhance the climate neutrality of the region by generating power for 16,000 homes, which is also the number of new homes planned to be built in the city between now and 2028.”

The transaction marks a significant milestone for Ørsted following the acquisition of the Brookfield Renewable Ireland business in June 2021.

Concluding, Mr White added: “We are continuing to invest in our Cork-based team and development projects to grow our existing Irish operational asset base of 327MW. As well as the cost and security of energy, the ever-present climate crisis has never been more acute. It is essential that Government and stakeholders continue to work collaboratively with industry to ensure that it can deliver environmentally, socially and economically for Ireland. Issues such as long planning, licencing and judicial timelines, and access to adequate grid infrastructure continue to hold the renewable sector back.”

Tech Review – Pixel Buds Pro

Ok so I have spent some time now with the Pixel Buds Ppro and did not rush out a review just three days after getting them as it would be unjust and just lies being honest to get an honest opinion too, I also was hoping the full EQ suite would arrive by now but it has not but when that update does drop I will be back with more and frankly being a pair or PRO earbuds this should have been included at launch but it is what it is and that’s how things go in the tech world.

I did give a first impressions when the review embargo was lifted but as mentioned not enough time and since then my thoughts are even better again minus that EQ update having said that you could get away with even using it the earbuds are that good, coming in at the price they do some might feel short changed but having used the pixel buds now from their inception shortchanged is not the word I would use at all but again they are on the higher side with price, there is other manufacturers out there that do charge more and give less for your hard earned cash.

We are not going down this road either “are they worth buying” clickbait like with any review and just tell you how it is and that is it and that is how we always operate and the same applies for our video review below where we have a look at them in our hands and get some real context.

The case and battery

The case is slightly larger as seen in the unboxing unless I need my eyes tested which is still fine I love the design though and it feels like a pebble in the hand and comes with wireless charging too which for me is great, the snap close lids seems sturdy too and should not open and the earbuds should not fall out regardless as the magnet is strong. If you do not like wireless charging you should also note that just 5 mins charge from a main will give you up to one hour. For the most they live up to expectation and what the manufacturers claims but knock off around 30-45 mins with max volume and ANC for the total time which is 7 hours.

Size and fit

So as in the unboxing nothing has changed here they are larger than before missing the wing tips but do not protrude too much either, people may be used to the smaller mint type shaped pixel buds A series which are still a cool pair of earbuds today but these fit well and will not fall out either they remain secure and stay put.

The app

The app is great once again and has all the features expected bar the full EQ suite at the time of writing this review it has plenty to play around with and lots of goodies pack inside and again you have got the option to find them if lost and they can be rang if required as they do often get misplaced around the house especially if you have kids. Connection is super fast as you will see in the video review too which is great..

Also in the app you have got your battery levels google assistant touch controls which are swipes/gestures single double or triple taps and touch and hold though the latter is for the Assistant which can be also customised to toggle active noise control on the left or right side. Overall the mentioned controls all worked really well for me during the test run.

Yes you have got ANC which has improved you have also got transparency and Off and again all worked well for me, the ANC is really good this time around however everyone’s ears are different but they are up there with well know ANC earbuds.

The sound

The most important bit but I still think there is better to come with the full EQ suite being honest and this did happen before with a previous pair and as is they do a great job, to simply it they are well balanced with a little bass but I do think they could be louder however that is more a personal preference but nonetheless decently loud and these are powered by custom 11mm drivers.

HIghs lows and mids are fine too and for music movies and more you will be pleased with what is on offer overall even some brand loyalists might be impressed here, you do need to do the seal test too for the best results like with any earbuds that offer this feature which is now seen more often especially in the high end and ensure you have the right tips too. Depending on what you listen to you might find some differences with instruments voice and genres but for the most there is not much to complain about, calls where fine too both ends for me and there was an issue before of calls dropping in their first pair of earbuds but this seems to have been fixed for now anyway from what I have seen for myself.

The Assistant here too is really cool which will allow you to have messages and emails etc read out to you without touching your phone I love this feature and it should become the standard today with the added benefits of multipoint connection it makes them more useful if you are a multi device user at home or in the office.

For 219 euros which is considered a high price and high end they are one of the cheaper offerings around there is slightly better out there for less but design might not suit those but if you are into aesthetics and good overall sound these are something to look at, We will be back again when the EQ settings get updated and see what has improved and we look forward to that.

You can now pick these up from Google here
