What Health Tech Innovations Are Becoming Available to Ireland in 2022?

How is technology revolutionising Ireland’s healthcare? We take a look at some of the 2022 innovations for Ireland.

Medical negligence cases in Ireland have seen a worrying increase in recent years as figures reveal that during the 2019 to 2020 period, there were approximately 4,022 open cases at any given time.

As with so many other sectors, many feel that the answer to improving health and medical care in Ireland lies in advanced technology and, in this article, we’ll take a look at some of the new technology which will be transforming health in Ireland in 2022.

SynchroPhi

Monitoring vital signs (heartbeat, pulse rate and respiration rate) is an essential first defense in detecting possible medical problems. By monitoring these factors, healthcare professionals can provide fast treatment to avoid a condition from becoming worse.

Founded in Galway by David Toohey, SyncroPhi provides wireless patient monitoring services. This clever innovation allows patients, doctors and nurses to remotely monitor vital signs for changes and issues and is already proving to be a vital addition to Ireland’s healthcare network.

My OT & Me

Occupational therapy interventions are resources designed to help young children develop essential motor skills such as hand strength, manipulation and endurance skills, which are required to complete basic tasks.

A lack of these resources in Ireland, led Jess Kennedy and Sean O Tuama to launch My OT & Me. OT & Me is an online health tech platform packed full of pediatric occupational therapy resources for children and young people.

The platform also provides lots of useful information, blogs and courses for parents.

Gasgon Medical

Winner of the 2021 InterTradeIreland Seedcorn competition, Gasgon Medical is the inventor of AirVault, a device which removes air bubbles from fluids in IV infusions. Launched in Cork by Vincent Forde, this device eliminates the need for nurses and medical staff to intervene in order to remove air bubbles which may lead to issues.

The device also allows for the delivery of more accurate doses of IV infusions, leading to faster recovery for patients. If left undetected, air bubbles within IV fluids can lead to air embolisms which block blood vessels and can lead to serious conditions and, in some cases, death.

While training, especially with accelerated online degree programs and making the industry more attractive to talented medical workers remains a priority, technology is becoming more and more vital in supporting hard working employees.

Wearable Technologies

Ireland has been making serious inroads with health and medical based wearable technology, with a few standout companies. These include Dublin based, PacSana, which has developed bracelets which provide data on movement and activity and, wearable thermometers and fingertip pulse oximeters.

Another shining light for wearables is Think Biosolution, founded by Dr Shourjya Sanyal and Koushik Kumar – Think Biosolution creates privately labeled wearable devices and software which harness the power of sensor technology to allow for remote patient monitoring.

xWave Technologies

A 2021 report revealed that waiting times for radiology scans have risen by around 16% in Ireland in recent years, meaning that many patients are waiting an unacceptable length of time to receive a diagnosis.

Dublin based health tech startup, xWave Technologies, led by CEO, Mitchell O’Gorman, aims to change that. With 600,000 Euros raised in pre-seed funding, xWave Technologies has developed xRefer, a smart healthcare platform which will enable doctors and clinicians to send referrals through a computer or phone, along with a search function, to quickly determine the most appropriate scan for a patient and to search availability.

MedDeus

We’ve all heard the jokes about the illegible handwriting of many doctors when issuing prescriptions and, all joking aside, this can sometimes lead to errors which impact on a patient’s health. MedDeus aims to eliminate this problem through its cloud based ClearScribe system.

The system can be used by doctors and other medical professionals to generate error free prescriptions at the point of care.

FeelTect

Venous leg ulcers are chronic and long-lasting sores which usually develop on the inside of the leg, just above the ankle. If left untreated, these ulcers can be painful and uncomfortable and can, in some instances, spread to other areas of the leg.

Galway startup, FeelTect, has developed Tight Alright – a pressure sensing device which, when attached to a compression bandage, measures and monitors pressure. Created by Dr Andrew Cameron and Darren Burke, Tight Alright will provide assistance to medical professionals in monitoring patients.

PPR Healthcare

Many new mothers are forced to suffer in silence due to a lack of adequate postpartum care. A New Mum, developed by PPR Healthcare, has produced a range of over-the-counter products and information resources to help new mothers tackle infection and discomfort as well as post-natal depression after giving birth.

Health-tech innovations are helping reduce waiting times for patients

In 2022, doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals are under more pressure than ever before as tight budgets and staff shortages continue to create obstacles. While training and making the industry more attractive to talented medical workers remains a priority, technology is becoming more and more vital in supporting hard working employees.

Technology such as wearable monitors work alongside medical professionals to provide more comprehensive care, as well as allowing patients to have significantly greater control over their own monitoring and treatment.

Similarly, new apps and platforms empower patients to gain more insight into their condition and to more effectively become involved in their treatment.

As we move forward, further advances in technology will almost certainly help to bridge the gap between healthcare services. Therefore, reduce waiting times as well as more effectively providing vital services to patients

Tech Review – Poco X4 Pro 5G

Poco is not that familiar brand here in Ireland however I have seen in recent times some of their devices pop up in these tech shops all over the place now but not in retail, there is several devices out there and most notable and nice looking I might ad is their Yellow devices that really stand out and the model we have comes in this flashy yellow which I would of liked but is also nice in the colour we had to review. Now for those who do not nor heard of the name POCO is a sub-brand owned by the Chinese electronics company Xiaomi Corporation.

The build quality may feel cheap to some but having used it some time it is holding up and seems robust enough and you do of course get a case in the box which helps alot here as finding a case in store here would be near impossible and you would have to resort to buying online or perhaps the store where you may have picked one up from, having said that you get the clear tpu case in the box but after how long would that start yellowing I do not know as I have not had the phone long enough to see..

Unboxing and walkthrough of the POCO X4 5g

Design

The device does look well and stands out although it has a huge camera hump on the back which is following a trend that is getting annoying now when most of the hump is just wasted in fairness but this is common and no attack on the company there is just no need for it anymore from anyone in my opinion. Overall the rear of the device does make it stand out with the glossy finish and looks well and does catch people’s attention the device is a bit slippy but with the case provided that eliminates this caveat.

Screen

The killer feature for anyone that can even notice this is the 120 hz screen now for someone who has the latest phones and uses the top phones out there and more the 120 hz bandwagon crew need to step back it is not that much notable if coming from 90 hz and everyone’s eyes are different and whilst it is good to have it is not the feature that will be a dealbreaker for the phone but at the price point one could argue that feature and people who really want it and feel the need for it I guess. The screen is nice overall making media consumption more enjoyable.

Battery

Whilst we have a decent battery inside I was still getting a day at most out of the device being on from 7am till 12 pm that night but then again I am a power user and would not have the same use case as any normal joe soap you could say but for those it would be a two day device.

Camera

The camera is where most phones fall at these price points and in this case it is sad to say it is true for this phone but for anyone that is not looking for 1000 euro results on a 250 euro phone it does ok I am not going to  bore you with specs but check out the samples below and make your own mind up, the phone does well during the daytime and has good audio results in comparison to some other devices I have tested this year.

Images and video samples taken on the POCO X4 5G day and night

Conclusion

Overall for the money you get what you pay for and the phone falls down at the typical features phones do in this price point but its not all that bad and not going to bother those who like phones for this price and you can get decent video and images in the right conditions, it performs well under normal use for multitasking and I had no issues there at all during my testing.

A blast from the past: the fruity reels worth a spin

With so many Slots available to play online in the modern-day, there’s nothing quite like going back to your roots and sinking your teeth into some of the sweetest retro slot games, inspired by classic fruit machines.

If iconic gameplay takes your fancy, then these casino Slots will get your tastebuds tingling as we transport you back in time to spin some of the fruitiest reels of all time.

Read on to find out more.

Bonus Fruits

In this fruity take on a retro slot, the action takes place on six reels and three rows, with 40 paylines, wild, scatter and bonus symbols, as well as the chance to bag yourself some free spins.

When gameplay is first launched, you’ll find yourself faced with what seems like a classic slot, despite there being more reels than usual.

When you land three or more bonus symbols, you’ll be able to choose whether you want to claim free spins or gain entry into the ‘spin and win’ bonus game. Free spins can be re-triggered, and in the ‘spin and win’ mode, each diamond symbol has a random cash value attached to it, waiting for you to uncover.

Seven classic fruit symbols make up the base game icons, and two lucky 7s are the most lucrative symbols. With an upbeat soundtrack, four fixed jackpots on offer and the sweetest fruit twist to a retro slot, this game is sure to get your tastebuds tingling!

Super Hot Fruits

Super Hot Fruits is another game that’s given the classic fruit machine a twist. Set the five reels and three rows alight with this fiery slot that’s bound to sizzle your gameplay.

Enter the bright red background, where gameplay is framed by fire and cartoon-style fruit has the potential to pay out a fruity feast filled with some pretty big rewards. Alongside the lemons, grapes, plums, oranges and cherries, you’ll find some lucky 7s, the golden bell and iconic crown adding even more zest to your gameplay.

There’s a Hot Spins game feature in which the reels will split into four sections with each of the new reels playing out like a separate set. There’s the special addition of a stacked wild during this round, and with a Diamond Jackpot up for grabs, will this game satisfy your sweet tooth?

Fruit Stack

Another fruit machine-inspired slot with a modern take is Fruit Stack. Standing out from the rest, this game comes with a maximum jackpot of 10,000x your stake, alongside five reels and nine paylines.

The theme pays homage to the retro fruit machines we know and love and features watermelons, cherries, lemons, oranges and grapes, as well as the single, double and triple bar symbols. The wild is represented by a blue diamond, and there’s a golden bell that can unlock free spins when a minimum of three land on the reels. Three bonus wheel icons can activate the bonus round, where a Wheel of Fortune mini game can help you bag additional wins.

With a gamble feature, massive jackpots and a fruit salad full of bonuses, will you be the next to spin and win with this slot?

Bolt to launch pilot e-bike scheme in Kilkenny

Bolt, the European mobility champion, today announced it will launch its second electric bike scheme in Kilkenny ahead of the Kilkenny Arts Festival starting on August 4th.

The 80-bike pilot will kick off in the coming week and will trial new virtual parking solutions to provide both flexibility and ease of use for cyclists and ensure the scheme is mindful of pedestrians and other road users.

This service will help to deliver on the Kilkenny City and County Development Plan 2021 – 2027, which prioritises sustainable transport and continued development of walking and cycling infrastructure in support of the 10-minute city concept.

Caitriona Corr, Cycling Officer with Kilkenny County Council, said, “We are delighted that people will have another choice of transport in Kilkenny.  It has been shown that e-bike users cycle further and more often so the benefit will be not just to our city but also people’s wellbeing. e-bikes can be of great assistance to people with reduced mobility and can make more arduous journeys very enjoyable.”

Bolt has continued  to strengthen its Irish team with the recent appointment of John Buckley as Operations Manager for Rentals in Ireland, who said, “Kilkenny is our second Irish market and one where we believe e-bikes can make a transformational difference to travel options and wellbeing. We are also conscious that Kilkenny is a medieval city and as such presents new challenges from an operational perspective. The learnings we will gather from Kilkenny will give Bolt a stronger understanding of the concerns some Local Authorities may have when it comes to introducing shared e-bike schemes into the public realm where space may be limited, and will leave Bolt as an experienced operator of such.

Buckley added, “Electric bikes play an essential role in reducing the reliance on private vehicles when travelling short to medium distances. We are keen that our e-bikes provide sustainable and affordable solutions in regional towns and cities too — there is no reason that such services should only be available in the capital.”

The launch marks Bolt’s second e-bike launch after it launched in Sligo earlier this year. The Sligo pilot has proven highly successful in its first month with 14,633 kms travelled by electric bike in the town in the first month alone — the equivalent of cycling from Sligo to Australia.

Bolt is a leading European mobility champion operating a range of services including e-bikes, eScooters, ride-hailing and car clubs for over 100 million people across 200 cities. The company currently operates ride-hailing taxi services in Dublin and Cork and is seeking to bring electric bikes, and in time, electric scooters to cities and towns across Ireland. The launch in Kilkenny comes as part of a wider push for Bolt to deploy 16,000 e-bikes across Europe in 2022, following recent fundraising.

Bolt will commit up to €5m in its bid to roll out e-bike operations across Irish cities and towns. Up to 2000 bikes are available immediately following Bolt’s recent fundraise and investment in micromobility with founder Markus Villig recently committing €150m to expand its light vehicle fleet across Europe.

How to rent a Bolt e-bike

To rent a Bolt e-bike, users need the Bolt app, available on app stores, and a payment card tied to an account.

Follow these steps to start riding a Bolt e-bike:

  • Open the app and tap on the e-bike icon to locate your closest bike;

  • Scan the QR code on the bike to unlock it;

  • Carefully read through the safety tips;

  • When you’re ready to roll, push off and go!

Continuing Bolt’s reputation of offering affordable micromobility service across continents, Bolt is the most affordable provider of shared electric bikes in Ireland, thanks to having low rates and no unlock fee. The per-minute rental price is the lowest on the market at just 0.15 EUR/minute during the launch campaign.

About Bolt e-bikes

Bolt e-bikes have been designed with a clear focus on safety. Solid rear and front wheel drum brakes help control the speed efficiently. Puncture-proof pneumatic tyres translate into better grip and durability.

The e-bike is also equipped with a functional dashboard providing information about speed, battery level and speed zones, showing the user all the information needed to enjoy the ride. Bolt e-bikes are equipped with high-precision GPS which helps users find the bikes easily on the street.

Bolt has also launched the in-app cognitive reaction test which aims to prevent users from riding an e-bike or scooter while intoxicated. If a customer ‘fails’ the test the app encourages them to choose other means of transport e.g. taxi. The test is an added safety layer designed to protect both riders and pedestrians.

The new e-bike model introduced by Bolt has a long lifespan of up to 5 years, which makes it highly sustainable. The e-bike is also produced from 100% recyclable aluminium. Integrating a swappable battery in the e-bike’s design results in fewer operations needed for battery charging. This translates into a decreased overall carbon footprint since the e-bikes do not need to be frequently transported to a warehouse for charging. The high-capacity battery additionally offers a range of up to 90 km per charge.

The e-bike also features beginner modes permitting max speeds of up to 15 km per hour, which can be activated in the Bolt app. Geo-fencing technology enables the prevention of high speeds in designated ‘go-slow’ zones where pedestrian footfall may be high, such as the High Street and the Parade.

Get Unrestricted Access to India by Using the Best Proxies

Accessing unrestricted content from anywhere in the world is a significant advantage in today’s digital landscape. Whether you are a regular person trying to access media content located in India or a large business looking to understand the metrics of local purchasing patterns, sooner or later you are going to hit a blockade. These blockades could be anything from geo-restrictions of local content to IP banning for data-scrapping bots, or maybe just privacy concerns on your end.

In this article, we will be touching briefly on why you would want to use an Indian proxy, what a proxy is and what are the advantages of using one.

Why You Should Use an Indian Proxy?

It is no secret that internet censorship is a big deal in India, both to the local population and to people outside. All the information isn’t readily available, and some websites don’t show the same type of content for people trying to access them from outside the country. An India proxy allows you to bypass these restrictions and geo-blocks and lets you access the content as if you were surfing from within India.

Take Netflix, for example. The content available to Indian users is far different from the content it shows in any other specific country. Here, geo-blocking prevents you from reaching the content you want to access by detecting your IP as a foreign one. When this happens, the server can outright reject your connection or show you a different type of information instead.

If you wish to access an Indian website just as any authentic Indian user would, you should buy India IP’s proxies. That way, you can easily avoid all the obstacles the internet puts in your way and unlock all the local content.

How Do Proxies Work?

Proxies work as intermediaries. They facilitate requests and responses between your device and another server while protecting your personal data in the background. When you access a website or service online, you send a direct request to the server using your own IP address. A proxy uses a different IP, instead acting as a middleman between you and the other server. The other server will then send a response to the proxy, which finally forwards it to you.

Thanks to proxies, you can enjoy a high degree of anonymity and privacy online. This is due to the extra layer of protection they add between your connection and the receiving server.

When you send your connection request through an Indian IP, you will appear as if you’re connecting to the internet in India. This way, you can access websites that are not normally available to foreign users. In addition to this, other websites will also show you the same type of content they would show an Indian national, all while keeping your information secure during the process.

Advantages of Using an India Proxy

Besides the aforementioned unrestricted access benefits, there are other advantages we could highlight:

  • Proper information acquisition

Collect information from all sites within the country without restrictions. You can perform data scraping and use all the information analysis tools available to acquire all the data you need.

  • Testing of new features

By using a proxy, you can appropriately test apps and services aimed specifically at the Indian market. You will be able to see how they perform from the perspective of an ordinary user from India.

  • Brand protection

Protect your brand by being able to identify the source of counterfeit goods. Sellers of this type of goods can block access from countries where the brand is officially present. By using an Indian IP, you can identify scammers from India to take legal claims against them.

  • Content cohesion

Integration between content across different portals is important. Using a proxy ensures that you have peace of mind in knowing that you will be able to have a full database of all news websites and portals from within the country. That way can evaluate how your brand or product performs within this market.

  • Performance tests

Loading speeds are crucial too. When you use a proxy IP from India, you will be able to see how fast your site loads in the region.

Final Thoughts

India is the second most populated country in the world, and even though it has a developing economy, it remains a key player in the Asian region. Don’t let restrictions and geo-blockades get you skewed information on the market. Concealing your IP address is a sure way to get you to achieve your goals within the country while at the same time achieving great safety online. With a reliable Indian proxy server, you can enjoy full access to the vast amounts of information that await you there!
