Why You Should Buy a Disposable SMS Number Secure Your Privacy with Ease

In today’s digital age, protecting your privacy has become more important than ever. With data breaches, spam, and unwanted marketing calls on the rise, many users are searching for ways to keep their personal information secure. A disposable SMS number is one of the most effective solutions to this problem.

In this article, we’ll explore what a disposable SMS number is, how it works, and why you should consider using one. Plus, I’ll show you where to get one and how to make the most of it.

What Is a Disposable SMS Number?

A disposable SMS number is a temporary phone number that can receive text messages. It functions just like a regular number but is often used for short-term purposes. These numbers are especially useful for situations where you don’t want to share your personal phone number but still need to receive SMS.

Think of it as a temporary email address you might use for signing up for a new service to avoid spam in your main inbox. Once you no longer need it, you can stop using it, protecting your real number from unwanted texts or calls.

Why Use a Disposable SMS Number?

There are countless reasons why using a disposable SMS number can be incredibly beneficial. Let’s break down a few of the most common use cases:

1. Online Verification

Many websites require phone number verification through one-time passwords (OTPs) for added security. But do you really want to give out your personal number to every service? By using a virtual number for OTP, you can complete the verification process without exposing your private information.

2. Signing Up for Free Trials

We’ve all been there – signing up for a service that promises free trials, only to forget to cancel, resulting in surprise charges. Using a disposable number lets you keep track of trial services without using your actual number.

3. Maintaining Privacy

Imagine you’re selling something online. Sharing your personal number with buyers might not feel secure, especially if you’re posting on public platforms. A disposable number keeps your real phone number out of the picture, ensuring your privacy is protected.

How Does It Work?

Buying a disposable SMS number is straightforward. Services like www.freeje.com offer easy access to temporary numbers. Here’s how the process generally works:

  1. Choose Your Country: Disposable numbers can be chosen from various countries, allowing you to select a region that fits your needs.
  2. Pick Your Plan: These numbers usually come with flexible plans – pay-per-use or a subscription for long-term use. You only pay for the duration you need it.
  3. Use It for SMS Verification: Once you’ve purchased the number, use it for whatever verification or communication you need. After the task is done, you can dispose of the number or keep it for future use.

Just like disposable cups are handy when you don’t want to wash dishes after a party, disposable SMS numbers are great for avoiding spam or excessive communication.

Practical Ways to Use a Disposable SMS Number

If you’re still unsure about how to integrate disposable numbers into your routine, here are some examples of where they can be helpful:

  • Social Media Accounts: Platforms like Instagram or Facebook often ask for phone verification. If you don’t want them to keep your personal number in their database, a disposable number does the trick.
  • Classified Ads: When selling items on websites like Craigslist, a temporary number gives you a layer of privacy, reducing the chances of getting spammed after the deal is done.
  • Dating Apps: For those who prefer keeping their personal life separate from their phone number, using a disposable SMS number for dating apps is a great solution.

Long-Term Security and Convenience

Many people believe disposable numbers are only useful for short-term purposes. However, they can also serve long-term needs. If you run a business, you may want to separate different areas of your work life – for example, having a separate line for customer inquiries without giving out your personal phone number.

Moreover, they are perfect for travel. If you’re in a foreign country and need a local number to receive messages or verify accounts, disposable SMS numbers are a convenient option.

Final Thoughts: The Smart Way to Protect Your Privacy

A disposable SMS number provides a smart, easy, and affordable way to protect your privacy and streamline communication. From online signups to selling products, there are numerous applications where having a temporary number can make a big difference.

Next time you need a quick solution for receiving texts without revealing your personal number, consider purchasing a virtual number for OTP. You’ll have peace of mind knowing your privacy is intact.

Poly Voyager Surround 80 UC Review

Having reviewed audio gear and office headsets for over 10 years, I’ve tested a wide range of Poly (formerly Plantronics) products — from dependable Bluetooth models to enterprise-grade headsets. The Poly Voyager Surround 80 UC is positioned as a premium, business-focused option for hybrid professionals who need comfort, clarity, and seamless connectivity across devices.

Design and Comfort

The Voyager Surround 80 UC is an over-the-head model featuring an ergonomic gap at the top of the headband to reduce pressure points. At 275 grams, it feels comfortable and balanced even during long meetings. The artificial leather ear cushions are soft and breathable, providing a pleasant wearing experience throughout the day.

The overall construction feels solid and businesslike, with subtle branding and a Teams logo for those in Microsoft environments. While the button layout is intuitive for right-handed users, left-handers might find the positioning less natural. Still, it’s a well-designed, durable headset suited to daily professional use.

Controls and Connectivity

Poly combines touch and button controls to handle calls, music playback, and volume with ease. Touch gestures manage playback and volume, while physical buttons cover mute, power, and Bluetooth pairing.

Connectivity is excellent, with support for Bluetooth 5.3, the included BT700 USB-C adapter, and optional USB-C to 3.5 mm cable for wired use. Pairing with Windows 11, Android, and macOS devices was quick and stable. The headset supports dual-device connectivity, making it easy to switch between laptop and phone without interruptions.

What’s in the Box

  • Poly Voyager Surround 80 UC headset
  • Premium carry case with zip pocket for accessories
  • BT700 USB-C Bluetooth adapter
  • USB-C to USB-A adapter
  • USB-C to 3.5 mm audio cable
  • USB charging cable
  • User guide

The carry case deserves special mention — sturdy, compact, and well thought out, making it ideal for professionals commuting between office and home.

Setup & Software (Poly Lens)

The Voyager Surround 80 UC can be used straight out of the box via Bluetooth, connecting instantly without requiring additional software. However, downloading the Poly Lens app unlocks a range of useful customisation and management options.

With Poly Lens, users can:

  • Customise headset controls and button functions
  • Enable smart sensors that detect when the headset is worn or removed
  • Automatically pause or resume media, or mute/unmute calls
  • Manage firmware updates and battery monitoring
  • Access Poly Lens Cloud for centralised device management (ideal for IT teams)

The software is well designed and adds real value, particularly for business users who want to tailor their experience or manage multiple devices.

Features

  • Adaptive Active Noise Cancelling (ANC) to reduce distractions
  • Six built-in microphones for clear, boomless voice pickup
  • Dual-device Bluetooth connectivity for laptop and phone pairing
  • Touch and button controls for calls, playback, and volume
  • Up to 21 hours talk time / 24 hours listening time
  • DeepSleep mode conserves power when inactive
  • Teams and UC certified for professional collaboration platform
  • Poly Lens integration for software customisation and management
  • 2-Year Manufacturer Warranty for peace of mind

Sound and Microphone Performance

Audio performance is impressive for professional use. The six microphones deliver crisp, natural voice pickup and handle background noise effectively through adaptive ANC. The boomless design keeps things tidy while maintaining excellent speech clarity.

During testing across Teams, Zoom, and Android phone calls, the overall audio quality was faultless. Voices were clear, background noise was minimal, and the headset performed reliably across multiple devices.

However, one noticeable drawback was that while mute and volume controls worked correctly on the headset, these actions didn’t always visually reflect in Microsoft Teams across different laptops. The headset muted and adjusted sound as expected, but Teams’ on-screen indicators didn’t always match the headset’s status — a minor but noticeable usability issue.

On Android, by contrast, everything worked seamlessly: media playback, track skipping, and volume control all responded perfectly.

Battery and Power Management

Battery life remains a major strength, with up to 21 hours of talk time or 24 hours of listening time. The DeepSleep mode automatically conserves energy after 24 hours of inactivity, and charging via USB-C is quick and convenient. It’s an ideal companion for long workdays or travel without needing to worry about frequent recharging.

Real-World Experience

In practical use, the Voyager Surround 80 UC delivers exactly what professionals need: reliable connectivity, consistent audio, and all-day comfort. The dual-device connection works flawlessly, allowing smooth transitions between phone and laptop calls.

While the Teams visual feedback issue is worth noting, it doesn’t affect actual functionality or audio performance. The headset remains a dependable tool for business calls and virtual meetings.

Verdict

The Poly Voyager Surround 80 UC is a high-quality, professional headset built for hybrid workers who spend much of their day in virtual meetings. It offers excellent microphone clarity, strong noise cancellation, long battery life, and a well-designed carry case that makes it easy to travel with.

While it commands a premium price, it’s backed by solid engineering, reliable connectivity, and a two-year warranty. The only minor frustrations lie in the Teams visual control sync issue and sensitive touch controls, but overall, this is a polished, professional headset that performs consistently where it matters most — in call quality, comfort, and usability.

How To Get A Virtual Business Address And Why You Need One

Starting and running a business today has many advantages, such as flexibility, low overheads, and access to a worldwide market. However, with it come challenges that entrepreneurs need to overcome.

Maintaining a professional appearance when working at home or from a distance is one of those challenges. With no dedicated office to call one’s own, one can quickly lose credibility with clients, partners, and investors.

This is where a virtual business address comes in.

Whether you’re an entrepreneur, freelancer, or small business owner, a virtual address can provide legitimacy and operational benefits that enhance the reputation and efficiency of your business.

But how do you obtain a virtual business address, and why is it essential for long-term success? This article explores the process of obtaining a virtual business address and its benefits.

Steps Involved In Getting A Virtual Business Address

The process of purchasing a virtual business address is relatively easy. Still, it requires a certain level of deliberation so that you can select one that is most suited to your business. There are several service providers with virtual addresses, each with a different feature, fee, and level of service.

The first step is to determine your business needs. If you only require a mail handling address, a basic virtual address service may suffice.

However, if you require additional services, such as telephone answering services, meeting space, or package handling, you should look for service providers that offer full-service solutions.

Next, choose a provider. There are a few of the most well-known providers that offer virtual addresses. When selecting a provider, consider price, location availability, customer support, and services included in the bundle.

For instance, if you are looking for a virtual office in London, you should choose one that offers different locations and is affordable.

Ideally, after you have picked a provider, you will have to select one of their available addresses. Usually, they have addresses in big cities, allowing you to establish a professional presence in a reputable business area—regardless of whether you’re working remotely or from home.

The final step is to complete the paperwork. With everything in place, you can use your virtual business address for official business mail, marketing materials, and registrations.

Why You Need A Virtual Business Address

A virtual business address has numerous advantages that can benefit companies of all sizes. As a freelancer or a startup business, a virtual address can make a professional impression and introduce you to more businesses without having to lease a physical office.

Here is a closer look at why you should have a virtual business address.

1. Professional Image

A business based at a home address will not appear professional to prospective clients, business partners, or investors. If clients see a residential address on your marketing materials, business cards, or site, they might question whether you are an actual business.

In such a case, a virtual address in a well-known business district makes your business appear more professional and reputable.

2. Privacy Protection

If you run a business from home, having your personal address on business records can expose you to privacy risks. Putting your home address on your website, invoices, or legal documents can attract unwanted visitors to your doorstep, unsolicited mail, and even security threats.

In addition, a virtual business address provides you with a layer of protection by hiding your home address. This is especially useful for entrepreneurs who would like to have a distinction between their business and personal life.

3. Regulatory Compliance

In most states, business firms are legally required to have a registered business address for tax and licensing purposes and official correspondence with government agencies. In some states, you may be unable to register a business with a P.O. box or a residence address when creating an LLC or a corporation.

4. Mail and Package Handling

A significant advantage of a virtual business address is receiving mail and packages. Many virtual address services offer mail forwarding, document scanning, and storage, allowing business owners to receive their correspondence without personally picking up their mail.

For instance, if you are a business person who is a digital nomad or you travel frequently on business trips, a virtual address ensures that you never miss important business mail.

Your provider can scan and email documents, forward mail to where you currently are, or securely store mail until you are ready to pick it up. Such convenience makes virtual addresses an excellent fit for business people who are always on the move.

5. Expansion Opportunities

For expanding business firms, a virtual address is an easy way to gain a presence in new markets. Instead of renting office space in a new city or overseas, companies can use a virtual address to have a local presence and attract customers in other areas.

For example, if you run an e-commerce business in a small town but need to reach customers in major cities, you can get a virtual address in a business area like New York, London, or Los Angeles.

This gives you a local address for business and can make communication with customers, partners, and investors in those cities much more convenient.

6. Cost Savings

Traditional offices come with costly rent, utility bills, maintenance charges, and long lease terms. These are major expenses for startups, solo workers, and small businesses. A virtual address offers most of the benefits of a brick-and-mortar office—a professional address, mail handling, and access to meeting space—for a small fraction of the expense.

Besides, a virtual business address is an ideal solution for organizations that need to cut down on unnecessary spending without losing a professional image. With a virtual business address, you can access a traditional office without overhead costs.

This is an excellent solution for today’s dynamic business activities.

Conclusion

A virtual business address is a smart investment for anyone who is a business owner and wants to be professional, remain private, and stay compliant without breaking the bank. Obtaining one is simple and has numerous benefits. If you are a freelancer who needs credibility or a remote worker who needs convenience, a virtual address can provide flexibility and legitimacy.

Having a solid business presence is a must in today’s digital era. A virtual business address allows you to achieve this easily without an office. With a provider and a package appropriate for you and your needs, you can access a professional business address anywhere.

Delighting Customers: The Art of Providing Outstanding Service

As businesses constantly shift and adapt to survive in today’s climate, one timeless truth remains firmly intact: exceptional customer service is absolutely essential to success. No matter what business you run, providing outstanding service and delighting customers in a stagnant marketplace can set you apart.

In this journey, we’ll discover what great customer service is made of, why it’s becoming so important, how to do it effectively, and which tools can make the whole process easier for you.

Ready? Well then, let’s get started.

The Essence of Good Customer Service

At its heart, excellent customer service goes way beyond just simple transactions. It’s about relationships.

Good customer service involves understanding your customers on an intimate level and meeting their needs in ways that resonates. Personalization, empathy, responsiveness and consistency all come together to form part of outstanding service delivery. Like when staff remember your preferences or greet you by name when entering a store; this experience alone embodies excellent service delivery.

Why Good Customer Service Matters

In today’s rapidly shifting commercial environment, where there’s fierce competition and opportunities aplenty, exceptional customer service can’t be overemphasized. It forms the cornerstone of brand loyalty and retention by forging deep relationships between your company and its patrons. Because when customers feel truly cared for they’ll be more loyal than ever to you and your budding business.

But it doesn’t stop there.

Loyalty

Loyal customers aren’t just shoppers. Their experiences transform them into powerful advocates. Eagerly sharing their experiences with family, friends, and on digital platforms like social media. So beyond just becoming repeat buyers, satisfied customers are living testimonials championing your offerings to an overcrowded market.

Resilience

On the flipside of customer service’s strategic stability lies its resilience. In challenging times when obstacles appear, excellent service acts as your first line of defense. Swiftly responding to concerns and issues shows your personal dedication to the cause. And this simple trick can turn disgruntled customers into the most loyal supporters of your brand. Proactive issue resolution preserves the integrity of your business while making it all the more resilient.

Investment

Customer service shouldn’t simply be seen as a transactional component. Instead, see it as a strategic investment that ensures the growth and longevity of your business. Customer service acts as the bridge that connects your offerings to consumer hearts and minds. Creating strong bonds that last even during difficult times.

Mastering the Art of Delivering Outstanding Service

So, now you know what makes good customer service and why it’s so important. But how do you implement it effectively?

Let’s find out.

I – Understanding Your Customers

To provide outstanding service, it’s absolutely critical that we gain a deeper understanding of what makes our customers tick. You can do this by creating consumer personas to visualize typical buyers. What pain points do they face? And what solutions do they want to see? Having feedback reviews or interactions as sources can guide these strategies accordingly.

II – Building a Customer-Centric Culture

Outstanding service starts from within. So, as an owner, you set the pace for your team. Do this by investing in training and giving staff autonomy beyond standard duty requirements. A culture of continuous improvement should become common practice. This way your staff’s always engaged in improving and the entire company strives to exceed customer expectations.

III – Personalization and Empathy

Do you make an effort to ensure your customers are treated as individuals? Extend that feeling by providing personalized experiences tailored just for them. From greeting them by name or offering recommendations based on past purchases to empathizing with their concerns and experiences.

IV – Responsiveness and Accessibility

Speed matters more than ever in today’s digital environment. That means prompt responses to inquiries or customer concerns are the aim of the game. Doing this demonstrates your respect for them and ensures omnichannel support throughout. Consider 24/7 availability as well as live chat for website visitors which can handle routine queries efficiently.

V – Handling Difficult Situations Well

Difficult situations might be unavoidable, but they’re also an opportunity for your organization. Implement de-escalation techniques to diffuse any tension-filled encounters. Empower frontline staff members with creative problem resolution processes with simple guidelines. And for more complex matters establish a clearly communicated escalation procedure so customers know you’re committed to finding solutions.

Tools and Technology for Improving Customer Service

In today’s fast-paced business world, harnessing tools and technology can significantly enhance your ability to offer excellent customer service. Digital allies like these help navigate interactions with ease while streamlining processes and creating memorable experiences.

Here’s an in-depth look at some essential tools that could revolutionize your customer service approach:

Customer Relationship Management (CRM) Systems:

  • Consolidate Customer Data: Store all customer details in one accessible place to quickly reference past interactions or purchases history.
  • Personalization at Scale: Leverage existing data to deliver tailored recommendations, discounts and offers to individual buyer preferences.
  • Relationship Building: Gain insights into customer behavior and preferences to foster even more meaningful interactions.

Helpdesk Software:

  • Efficient Ticket Management: Track and prioritize customer queries to ensure every issue is noticed and addressed.
  • Collaborative Teamwork: Establish processes that empower and enable customer service personnel to work cooperatively.
  • Automation Capabilities: Automate repetitive tasks to free up valuable team resources to focus on more complex customer requirements.

Live Chat/Chatbots:

  • Real-Time Assistance: Deliver real-time assistance for customers visiting your website while improving the experience and decreasing bounce rates. Furthermore, consider enhancing issue resolution with real-time collaboration tools which can further boost customer satisfaction.
  • 24/7 Availability: Make yourself available around-the-clock, for better satisfaction.
  • Quick Query Resolution: Chatbots should handle frequently asked queries while human team members focus on more complicated concerns.

Social Media Monitoring:

  • Multi-Platform Engagement: Monitor mentions, comments and messages across different social media platforms to respond quickly.
  • Reputation Management: Address negative feedback or buyer concerns promptly to demonstrate your dedication.
  • Trend Identify: Recognizing emerging industry-related conversations will allow you to proactively engage new customer pools.

Integrating these tools into your customer service strategy can dramatically change how you engage with your audience. Because technology not only increases efficiency but also elevates customer experiences.

But remember, while automation plays an essential part, human touch remains crucial. So finding a balance between automation and personalization ensures customers enjoy both worlds.

Measuring Success and Continuous Improvement

After you implement these tools and develop customer service strategies, you’ll need to make sure a means for measuring success is put in place. This’ll help to identify areas for growth and track them over time.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) play an integral part of measuring this effectiveness. Here are a few KPIs worth taking note of:

  • Customer Satisfaction (CSAT)

Assess customer satisfaction via surveys or post-interaction feedback, then measure it against response times for inquiries or issues from your team.

  • First Contact Resolution (FCR)

Calculate how quickly issues are addressed during their first interaction, showing your efficiency.

  • Net Promoter Score (NPS)

Determine how likely customers are to recommend your business to others to reflect customer loyalty.

Customer insights provide an absolutely invaluable source of data. Data that can help identify pain points, streamline processes and deliver an outstanding service experience for every shopper.

Empower Customers Through Self-Service Solutions

In an age of instant information, providing customers with self-service options is an important way to improve experiences while relieving the strain on your customer support team.

Here’s some self-service solutions that could benefit your organization:

  • Knowledge Bases and FAQs

Develop an extensive knowledge base that addresses customer inquiries in depth. Customers will appreciate being able to find solutions on their own without spending unnecessary time seeking an answer for themselves.

  • Tutorials and How-To Guides

Provide step-by-step video or written guides on using your products or services efficiently. Because video can especially make for engaging learning.

  • Develop Interactive Troubleshooters

Create interactive tools that help customers diagnose common issues and provide solutions tailored to each of them.

Expanding Your Horizons: International Customer Service Strategies

Reaching across international borders opens up some pretty amazing prospects. But it also simultaneously creates some distinct obstacles like cultural gaps, time zones and language barriers.

Here’s how you can excel in international customer service:

  • Cultural Sensitivity

Investigate and understand the cultural norms and preferences in each region you’re targeting. Then tailor your communication and support approaches accordingly.

  • Multilingual Support

Deliver customer service in multiple languages to meet a more diverse customer base. Do this by either employing translation services or hiring multilingual team members.

  • Localized Knowledge Base/Resources

To address local concerns and practices more directly, make sure you have resources for localized areas.

Maintaining Human Connection in a Digital Era

Technology can play an indispensable part, but keeping an intimate customer experience alive is still hugely significant.

Here are a few simple ways to offer meaningful interactions to bridge digital and human connections:

  • Video Support

Video calls can provide face-to-face interactions and strengthen relationships, increasing your problem solving efficiency.

  • Webinars and Live Demos

Host webinars and live demonstrations to showcase your products or services directly. This gives customers direct engagement with your team as well as real-time interaction by asking any relevant questions.

  • Virtual Consultations Services

Provide virtual consulting sessions for more complex inquires with personalized advice and solutions provided directly.

Conclusion

Outstanding customer service is at the core of business success, creating connections, loyalty and growth for any enterprise. For small business owners looking for differentiation in customer experience, commitment to delighting customers might just be your secret weapon.

Every interaction offers the chance to leave an indelible mark, with delighted customers becoming brand advocates who help drive your success further.

So embrace its art, refine strategies and watch as your company thrive through outstanding service delivery.

World’s first virtual hospital – Cisco, University of Galway

Cisco, the worldwide leader in networking and security, has announced a joint initiative with the University of Galway and CÚRAM, SFI Research Centre for Medical Devices in Ireland, to create a research framework for the world’s first ‘Virtual Hospital’, serving patients with diverse conditions at every stage of their healthcare needs.

As part of the Cisco Country Digital Acceleration (CDA) programme, the initiative, which is already in pilot, is aligned to the ambitions of Ireland’s 10-year health and social care reform Sláintecare, to avoid unnecessary hospital admission and support patients at home.

Greater patient power

The objectives of this initiative, powered by Cisco technology, are to help increase access to services, convenience, and improve outcomes for patients. It will also seek to provide patients the ability to play an active role in their own recovery. The virtual platforms are designed to mean patients will not only be able to monitor their progress, but also provide patients direct access to educational materials, and the ability to participate in the decision-making process with their healthcare providers.

Unlike other initiatives around the world which deliver individual speciality virtual wards, this initiative brings together multiple clinical areas and stages of treatment to provide seamless care. These include community virtual care pathways for enhanced monitoring of chronic conditions such as COPD to enable admission avoidance. In addition, it is enabling virtual outpatient clinics for remote appointments with integrated multiparameter diagnostics.

Delivering virtual care

Cisco technologies, including networking, cybersecurity, Webex devices and application visibility solutions, are delivering mission critical digital infrastructure to power operations, connecting patients with their healthcare providers, wherever they may be, and ensuring reliable mobile data connectivity for seamless virtual care.

Underpinned by Cisco networking infrastructure, myPatientSpace and patientMpower mobile health apps provide the virtual hospital’s digital platform that helps patients track key health metrics and monitor symptoms from home. Clinician’s will connect to real-time dashboards that display information on a patient’s condition, alerting medical professionals to changes so they can detect deterioration early and deliver timely care.

Initial feedback from patients during the setup of the initiative has been highly positive with comments including: “you’re not having to travel to go to a consultant, and they can do it from their office as well… you have the GP on it, and another doctor too. For me, that’s a complete positive”; “all my information from the monitoring was there in front of me on the screen. I found it all very useful, and in some way better than in person.”

The University of Galway HIVE Lab has developed a range of digital care solutions for local patients in this groundbreaking study, enabled by Cisco technology such as Webex integrated Virtual Consultations. The initiative is using innovative AI technology such as dynamic appointments where patients with chronic diseases are automatically triaged to an appropriate outpatient clinic slot based on their clinical need (e.g. Blood Pressure, HbA1c values). In addition, the HIVE lab has developed smartphone-based software that uses AI enabled cameras to help monitor patients’ rehabilitation exercises to ensure that they are doing them in the way their physiotherapists prescribed to aid rapid recovery from operations.

Reduced workload and financial pressure

The virtual hospital research initiative is leading the way in tackling rising pressure on Ireland’s health system, particularly its funding and staffing needs. It will aim to prove a framework that could contribute to the lightening the workload of healthcare professionals thereby increasing staff retention, while minimising operational costs and optimising the use of healthcare resources.

According to the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) in the UK, early value assessment study on virtual ward platform technologies demonstrated their cost-effectiveness, with an estimated £872 (€1,020) saving per person compared with inpatient care and by £115 (€135) per person compared with care at home without a virtual ward.

To date, in the initial setup stage of the project in Ireland, approximately 350 ‘bed days’ have been saved by patients who have been supported at home via a COPD virtual care pathway as part of this project work.

Quotes:

Professor Derek O’Keeffe, Project Principal Investigator, Professor of Medical Device Technology at the College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences at University of Galway, said: “This research project offers an innovative virtual solution to a real global healthcare problem. It will explore new ways of providing care to our patients using next generation technology and new clinical pathways to improve health and economic outcomes”.

Brian Jordan, Country Digital Acceleration Lead, Cisco Ireland, said: “Digital technology is critical to the future of healthcare and is capable of extending care well beyond hospital walls, right into patients’ homes and in the heart of their local community. Cisco is proud to be supporting this ground-breaking 360° care delivery model that aims to streamline processes, alleviate staff workload, and reduce financial pressures on public healthcare services.”

Commenting on the significance of the initiative, CÚRAM Director, Professor Abhay Pandit, said: “This project is one of the largest industry collaborations our centre has supported to date. It is an excellent example of the impact that collaborations between CÚRAM and industry can have on local communities and society at wide.”

Reaching more patients

The initiative expects to support hundreds of patients across the Diabetes, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and Heart Failure and Atrial Fibrillation virtual care pathways in the Galway region. With the development and rollout of virtual outpatient clinics this is expected to extend to thousands of patients next year.

Remote digital solutions

This latest project builds on other pilot digital healthcare studies supported by Cisco in remote parts of Ireland. Enabled by its CDA programme, this includes the Home Health project in Clare Island, home to an aging population of 160 residents and challenged by extreme weather conditions. Care solutions in the Home Health project include smart wearables to track vital signs; drones to fly in prescriptions; virtual reality headsets to deliver training for nurses; and a robotic dog to triage emergency health issues.

IKEA is opening a new store on Roblox… and you could be paid to work there!

IKEA has unveiled a first look at ‘The Co-Worker Game’, a virtual universe coming to Roblox on June 24th. The immersive experience gives players the opportunity to experience IKEA’s unique approach to careers where non-linear career journeys are the norm and lateral moves across departments are commonplace.

As well as being the brand’s first foray into mainstream gaming, the virtual store will give people a chance to immerse themselves in the working world of IKEA. With a limited number of paid, virtual co-worker roles available in the game.

Applications for roles in the virtual store open today (3rd June, 2024) and close on Sunday 16th June, with paid shifts for 10 new co-workers up for grabs. Successful applicants will be able to flex their skills, help customers, and get promoted to move departments, just like in the real world.

Alongside the paid co-workers, the broader Roblox community, gamers and IKEA fans alike will be able to work, explore and experience the virtual world of IKEA on Roblox.

They can venture to IKEA’s famous Swedish Food Market and Bistro and serve up endless amounts of meatballs or stop over at the various showrooms and use famous IKEA products to organise the space – say hello to HEMNES heaven. All with the chance to win exclusive IKEA UGCs.

Darren Taylor, Country People and Culture Manager, IKEA UK and Ireland: “We’re excited to be the first brand to launch paid work on Roblox to showcase how we do careers differently, bringing our unique careers philosophy to life.

At IKEA, there is no set route to career progression. Our co-workers are able to change roles, switch departments, and grow in any direction they choose, both in the game or in the real world. There are many ways to learn and grow at IKEA, and that’s what IKEA on Roblox is all about.“

Virtual interviews for shortlisted applicants will take place for this fully remote virtual role on June 14th, 17th and 18th. Each successful applicant will be paid an hourly IKEA Co-Worker rate for their time on the game.

IKEA on Roblox, developed by The Gang, a Swedish game design company, launches on June 24th.
