WhatsApp popular in Europe but Irish prefer Zoom during the COVID pandemic. #Messaging #Apps #Zoom #WhatsApp

Over the last few weeks the use of Messaging apps has surged due to the covid pandemic and has changed the way we communicate for some and some apps in particular have seen an astronomical rise in use such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams. Video messaging is a huge thing today and may be the norm for some time to come yet and could be a new move going forward in how we communicate which might make some businesses rethink their strategy.

Our friends at picodi have sent over this study to showcase what apps are being used

In 14 countries — including Ireland — the most popular messaging client was Zoom. The interest in this app skyrocketed mostly in the northern European countries (United Kingdom, Norway), in some Baltic countries (Lithuania, Estonia), as well as in Ukraine and Moldavia.

Skype gained popularity in Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, and Greece. Similar to Skype, Viber and Microsoft Teams ruled only in four countries. The popularity of both messaging clients increased in the Balkans. Microsoft Teams won in Liechtenstein and Viber ranked first in Belarus. Denmark was the only country where Google Meet took first place among other messaging clients.

DHL and Viber SMS scams to watch out for here is all the details.@Viber @DHLExpressIre #DHL #Viber #Scams

Waking up to a scam is nothing new these days however getting up this morning I had several messages from followers regarding a Viber scam then yet I go the message myself and also a DHL scam which is something to take more interest in as it leads you to a website imitating DHL to give a payment of sorts.

The DHL one begins with an sms looking for a small fee to get your item delivered. DHL will not ask you for this information and if there is any issues with a package they will call you, they have a system in place anyway for dealing with transactions. This site is only trying to get steal your information which looks legit and some might be caught out here given the small amount they seek

The Viber group message going around is to join a group but leads you to a sex site but you are offered the chance to block or open the link so use your head and just block it and pass it on also if you have any of your kids on the app I would advise you to check their phone or block the number in question.

#Viber messaging hoax alert. Spam message ignore and do not share.by @jimboireland

There is a message doing the rounds on Viber claiming to be changing the service which is free to cost you money down the road which amounts to little but nonetheless its just worth pointing out that you should ignore the message regardless. The message will then ask you to forward it onto other people in your directory. IF YOU GET THIS SHARE THIS AND WARN OTHERS.

We have contacted Viber today on Twitter to clarify the matter and since this other users have also experienced the same issue,if i remember this happened last year too at some stage and died off and now it seems its become a problem again, the time of year it is you all should be vigilent to any form of strange messages, infact i had my own email compromised last night too so take all forms security possible to reduce the risk of been caught out.

Just be sure as mentioned above we contacted Viber and they replied quickly which was good of them.

Here is the message we received today, just delete the message and ignore it..Viber is not changing its service or charging as outlined in their tweet above, there is no links in this particular message but should you get it or a message like it containing a link remove it straight away.

This would be considered an on/off issue on Viber but some may have not heard about it and some perhaps did, however its worth pointing this out so you are aware of it and can deal with it and stop it from spreading.

#Viber application now available for nokia asha 308,310,311 #nokia #asha #ireland

Viber is one of the most popular messaging and social networking apps around, and it’s now available for the Nokia Asha 308Asha 310 and Asha 311.

There are currently over 200 million Viber users around the world, and there’s set to be a lot more thanks to the availability for Asha owners.

You can send regular messages through Viber and have a conversation with friends, and it’s easy to attach photographs and send them via 3G or Wi-Fi.

Make voice calls

It’s also possible to make voice calls using Viber – giving you all the functionality that you’ve come to expect from your Nokia Asha device. The one key difference is that because everything works over 3G or Wi-Fi, you can use your contract’s data allowance or join a wireless network, and the result is a lot cheaper – or even free.

This comes in particularly useful when you’re chatting or sharing content with people in different countries, where voice calls or pictures messages can prove to be prohibitively expensive.

Automatic contacts sync

Start Viber for the first time and the app automatically syncs your contacts. That means that all your friends who are already using the social messaging service will be added to your phonebook, and it’s easy to start chatting.

Message threads are colour coded, so there’s no confusion when you’re reading back messages. You can even set up group messages, so you can chat with several of your friends simultaneously.

Viber is available to download now for the Nokia Asha 308, Asha 310 and Asha 311.
