6 Tips to Use Google Slides for eLearning

There is no doubt that the Covid-19 pandemic has changed everyone’s lives. Nowadays, most things are done remotely – including education. Thanks to eLearning, instructors can continue teaching – without the fear of causing an outbreak.

While you can use many tools for eLearning, Google Slides prove to be very popular. Although it’s very easy to use, it is not without hurdles. So if you want to master this helpful platform, here are six tips that should help you out.

1. Keep it on the Cloud

Think about this: you’ve spent countless hours making a perfect presentation. Just when you’re on your last slide, the power turns off. Now you’ve lost a majority of the slides.

As this is every instructor’s worst nightmare, the best way to avoid this is to save everything in the Cloud.

The Cloud does more than just keeping your presentation secure. This also makes it easily accessible on your other devices. So if you need to do last-minute revisions, you can easily do so with your smartphone.

2. Sharing is Caring

Some students learn better when you talk about the subject (audio learners), while some fare better when they read the material (visual learners). And since the majority of people learn visually, you can help them master the topic by sharing the presentation outright.

A good thing about Google Slides is that there’s no need to download and upload files to do this. All you need to do is copy and share the link – and voila – instant access. You can even share the link through your school or course’s official website.

So when should you share this link? According to a Vanderbilt University report, it’s best to do this before your lecture. Results show that having a copy of the lesson helps students learn more.

The benefits of the Sharing feature are not limited to just your students, though. You can also send the link to your fellow instructors – especially if they want to add something to your Google Slides.

3. It’s All in the Presentation

It’s already hard enough to sustain the attention of students in the classroom. Now that they’re remote, the challenge is even more significant.

So if you want to keep your students tuned to your Google Slides, then you need to practice (and perfect) your presentation.

As always, it pays to prepare and map out your strategy in advance. For example, if you’re teaching younger students, engaging media may work better than a text-heavy presentation.

Whatever strategy you pick, you should remember this: avoid reading directly off your slide. Your students can do this by themselves!

Instead, you should discuss the information. What can the learners get from you that they won’t get from the Google Slides? Remember: that’s why you’re teaching them in the first place.

Another technique you could try is telling a story. Students will better relate to real-life stories. It’s easier to grasp concepts with a concrete, relatable example.

4. Be Visual

Remember how you lulled your students to sleep before because of your text-heavy presentations? Should you continue doing this with your Google Slides, you can’t expect your learners to pay any attention at all.

If you want to sustain their attention, then you need to be creative with your presentation. You need to be visual.

This starts with using the proper presentation design. You don’t want to use a template with too many distracting colors. They’re confusing, if not headache-inducing. As such, it’s best to go with a simple, professionally made Google Slides Templates.

Additionally, you should keep everything else to a minimum. Avoid using clipart, sounds, music, or animations. They make your Google Slides look confusing – and a tad bit amateurish.

It would be best if you used techniques that actually promote learning. Good examples include:

  • Bolded, italicized, or highlighted key points
  • Short phrases instead of lengthy paragraphs
  • Bulleted or numbered lists instead of heavy text
  • Relevant pictures
  • Instructional videos

5. Link your sources

Maybe your students want to delve deeper into a topic you’ve just discussed. Instead of replying to every query, it’s best to embed the link on the get-go. With this, your learners can access the references you’ve used, be it an e-Book, whitepaper report, or video presentation.

6. Ask for Feedback

You won’t know if you’ve given a good presentation if you don’t ask your learners.

Getting feedback is an excellent way to improve your Google Slides presentation. Maybe they have suggestions that will enhance the overall eLearning experience.

As they’re the ones on the receiving end of the spectrum, your experience is entirely different from theirs. As an instructor, you owe it up to them to make the eLearning activity even better!

Indeed, Google Slides have made the whole eLearning process better. And since there’s always room for improvement, following these six tips will help you achieve them.

Pandemic accelerates rate of digital adoption among Irish businesses according to latest survey from Dell Technologies

A new survey undertaken by the Executive Institute on behalf of Dell Technologies (NYSE:DELL) reveals that 98 per cent of business leaders in Ireland believe technology has played a key role in helping their organisation to navigate the past year and, as a result of the pandemic, 68 per cent have shortened the target window for digital transformation.

The ‘Digital Adoption Survey 2021’ seeks to understand business leaders’ changing attitudes towards technology in Ireland. It also collected views on how digital adoption will help businesses to embrace new opportunities to grow and succeed in a data-driven era.

The survey of 147 business leaders has shown that 84 per cent believe that supporting a hybrid workforce with employees both working remotely and from the office is the greatest business challenge that technology can help address over the next one to three years. Enhancing organisational resilience emerged second (59 per cent) and reducing costs third (50%).

In light of these findings, 53 per cent of business leaders in Ireland will now invest more in technology to maintain a competitive edge given the experience gained during their experience of the fourteen months.

The Digital Adoption Survey identified several key obstacles in maintaining the current pace of digital transformation. Business leaders highlighted that upfront investment (51 per cent), lack of in-house skills and expertise (32 per cent) and an absence of digital culture (20 per cent) represent the main barriers to adopting new technologies within their organisation.

In looking to the future, the vast majority (67 per cent) of respondents said that 5G technology will be extremely or very important in keeping connected with a remote workforce. Despite this, half (51 per cent) of business leaders are unaware of the benefits that 5G technology will unlock in the next one to three years.  Moreover, 63 per cent of leaders surveyed stated they are aware that Edge Computing and the Internet of Things can provide new insights into future customer behaviour.

Commenting on the results of the survey, Jason Ward, Vice-President and Managing Director, Dell Technologies in Ireland, said: “Although faced with challenges of an unprecedented scale over the past year, businesses leaders I speak to have valued the role of technology in keeping connected with their customers and their people. The results of our Digital Adoption Survey demonstrate this very fact.

“By taking the learnings of the past year into account, business leaders can ensure that the advancements made through necessity can be built upon to foster a technology-enabled recovery. With close to seven in ten businesses saying that they have shortened the target window for digital transformation, it is clear that leaders are intent on harnessing the power of technology to drive future growth.

“5G will prove to be game-changer in an increasingly data-driven era. Despite business leaders valuing the benefit it can bring in connecting employees, 5G is more than just enhanced connectivity. It is converging with AI, Edge Computing, Cloud and robotics to accelerate the fourth industrial revolution. With 75% of business data to be processed at the Edge by 2025, organisations need to begin assessing how 5G and Edge Computing can fit into their IT transformation programme and deliver real benefits on the road to recovery.”

Conor Morris, Managing Director, The Executive Institute said: “90% of our members have already committed to a hybrid workplace model post-pandemic. The further acceleration of digital adoption will be one of the key factors that will determine whether hybrid will survive and thrive.”

YouTube Shorts arrives in Ireland. #YouTube #Shorts

YouTube announced today the arrival of the beta version of YouTube Shorts in Ireland, the company’s new short-form video experience to create short, catchy videos from mobile phones. First announced in September 2020, YouTube has since expanded Shorts to 26 countries and will now be available across more than 100 countries around the world where YouTube is available. Shorts is an alternative to tiktok and Instagram stories.

When you get the update which has arrived on my pixel 5 you simply open the YouTube app then at the end you will see a plus icon tap this then the options pop up, hit create a short and then you can adjust the time, speed or flip then add music and more.

While short form videos were already viewable in the platform, users in Ireland will be able to access for the first time Shorts’ creation tools which include a multi-segment camera to string multiple video clips together, the ability to record with music, control speed settings, and more.

Users will also have the ability to sample audio not only from other Shorts but also from videos all across YouTube — which includes billions of videos worldwide — unlocking a new playground of creativity like never before. This means that users can give their own creative spin on the content they love to watch on YouTube and help find it a new audience — whether it’s reacting to their favorite jokes, trying their hand at a creator’s latest recipe, or re-enacting comedic skits. Creators will be in control and will be able to opt out if they don’t want their long form video remixed.

In addition, and timed with the product’s international expansion, we’re bringing a new set of features to all existing and new markets such as:

  • Add text to specific points in your video

  • Automatically add captions to your Short

  • Record up to 60 seconds with the Shorts camera

  • Add clips from your phone’s gallery to add to your recordings made with the Shorts camera

  • Add basic filters to color correct your Shorts, with more effects to come in the future

“We want to make it easy and fun to create Shorts” said Todd Sherman, Global Product Manager for YouTube Shorts. “As we continue to build Shorts alongside our creators and artists, we’ll be adding more features for users to try”, he added.

When it comes to music, artists and creators will have a large library of songs to use in their Shorts from over 250 labels and publishers around the world, including Universal Music Group’s labels and publishing companies, Sony Music Entertainment and Sony Music Publishing, Warner Music Group and Warner Chappell Music, Believe, Merlin, Because Music, Beggars and Kobalt.

Delivering a seamless viewing experience across YouTube

Helping people find Shorts to enjoy and creators get discovered is also a key component of the product experience. That is why even before announcing the creation tools, we had introduced a row on the YouTube homepage especially for Shorts, launched a new watch experience that lets you easily swipe vertically from one video to the next, and have added a Shorts tab on mobile that makes it easier for users to watch Shorts with a single tap.

As of today the YouTube Shorts player has surpassed 6.5 billion daily views globally.

Shorts will be integrated to the YouTube experience users already know and love. For example, if a user hears a snippet of a song on Shorts, they can easily find the full song, watch the music video, or learn more about the artist — all on YouTube.

Supporting mobile creators

YouTube has helped an entire generation of creators turn their creativity into businesses and become the next generation media companies. Over the last three years, we’ve paid more than $30 billion to creators, artists, and media companies.

With Shorts being a new way to watch and create on YouTube, the company has been looking at various ways to monetize Shorts and reward creators for their content, including the recently announced YouTube Shorts Fund, a $100M fund distributed over the course of 2021-2022.

“We know that it will take us time to get this right, and we’re just getting started. We can’t wait for you to try Shorts and help us build a first-class short-form video experience right on YouTube” Sherman said.

The Shorts beta will be available to everybody in Ireland by Wednesday, July 14th. You can find us HERE too with lots of tech and lifestyle stuff coming up..

How Can Technology Help My Business?

Since the creation of more and more technologies for working environments, businesses have become spoilt for choice in regard to what they can use to make the working day that much simpler. Finding the right pieces of technology to suit your business needs can really help to streamline processes, and even go a long way towards stopping interruptions and cutting down on costs and wastage. If you’re wondering how technology can help your business, creating a successful membership business model is one way to leverage its benefits. Check out Join It’s comprehensive membership organizations guide to learn how to effectively implement technology and optimize your business for growth and success.

HR Systems

Using HR systems to improve workflow, and cut down on the amount of paperwork you have, can potentially save you both time and money. While there may be a cost for using these systems, they can expedite the HR process, putting more power into your employees’ hands, through the ability to submit their own holiday requests, update information, and even view company documents such as policies and procedures. In terms of your HR team, it can allow them an easier means of recruiting and onboarding candidates, while keeping all the information securely stored on a digital platform. Zelt, a versatile HR software, provides the tools needed to support these tasks, ensuring that HR processes are more streamlined and effective

This means that there is no longer a need to spend time looking through large amounts of paperwork when the required information can be quickly searched for when logged into the account.

Leveraging HR systems improves workflow efficiency, reduces paperwork, and potentially saves time and costs. Though there’s an implementation expense, these systems streamline HR processes. They empower employees to manage requests, updates, and access documents autonomously. For HR teams, this aids in recruitment, onboarding, and secure information storage. No more sifting through paperwork; vital data is quickly accessible via accounts. SenseHR cloud HR software emerges as a solution perfectly aligned with these objectives, offering comprehensive capabilities that optimize HR operations and elevate the overall organizational efficiency.

Meeting Planners

Some members of the team may be required to attend meetings with business partners, other employees, and even clients, for work to be able to go ahead. When numerous meetings need to be scheduled, it is important to avoid double-booking that member of staff, as well as to make sure they have adequate time to be able to travel to and from meetings, if necessary. Using a shared meeting planner or calendar will allow other members of the team to see when that individual is free, to be able to schedule these meetings accordingly. This can also help with the rest of the team’s work, by allowing employees to see who is present that day, and who is on annual leave. This can greatly assist with the sharing of workloads to compensate for those who are not in the office, or are in the aforementioned meetings, at the time.

Communication

One of the most important parts of a strong working team is the ability to communicate effectively. This can reduce any struggles with workload or knowledge, as well as allow team members to build up a good working rapport. When meetings, remote working, or numerous offices are commonplace, you want to make sure that communication is accessible for all. By utilising different means of communication outside of standard face-to-face conversations, telephone calls, and emails, such as video conferencing or work-based instant messaging, you will be enabling your team to communicate that much better due to having more tools at their disposal. For example, consider a workplace messaging app, such as Slack, so that employees can seamlessly communicate with one another.

Technology has come a long way, and can have its place within a working environment. By considering the type of business that you run, as well as the availability of apps and different pieces of software on the market, you can choose those which are more likely to positively impact your team’s working day.

Tech Review – Sudio ETT true wireless earbuds.. #Tech #sudiosweden #shapingsound

Having tested the all new Sudio ETT for some time now they are a great pair of earbuds with great looks and stand out which was one thing noted during my testing, people asking what brand they are, something often asked but people like the colour here in particular which moves away from the traditional Black or White variants that are most common but there seems to be a change here with more manufacturers offering more colours which is nice and gives the consumer choice..

The Sudio ETT come with nice packaging as do all Sudio products and is nice to see as first impressions do last for many you get a presentation overall and you can see this in the unboxing experience below…Slip into an audio world where you’re in control. Sudio Ett’s Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) is pure listening, uninterrupted, while comfort fitted detachable ear tips ensure perfect sound seal for any ear. Automatic Transparency Mode intuitively lowers noise reduction, allowing you to hear your own voice clearly, that is, if you decide to answer when the outside world calls.

Sound

The Sudio ETT overall pack a decent punch here however I think they could do better with an app as I mentioned in previous Sudio product reviews but overall they are fine with 10mm drivers they deliver quite well as a whole with highs lows and mids doing fine and for the average user they will have no problems with these at all, not as loud as I would like but loud enough and for my usual test loop they performed well in fairness they lack a deep bass and calls are fine too and for music and movies etc you will be happy enough if you are not a true audiophile which I am not but know good from bad due to the amount of earbuds I test here. There was no lag latency noticed here either.

Comfort and Build

Comfort is nice here and with the right buds the ANC does a good job overall they look nice have a nice soft finish to them and fit really well and will not fall out once in your ears, I do really like the build quality of these earbuds and they look great too and as mentioned the range of colours you get to pick from is nice and different.. Also you get an IPX5 rating here and wireless charging to boot. Battery life is not too bad either which is around 30 hours without ANC and around 22 with ANC or 6 and 4 per charge

These cost 119 euro now which is a fair price to pay and you get a well built product that delivers for the most part on sound with some features missing, check out the video below for more and how to use the earbuds and let us know if you have picked these up and your thoughts below.

And do not forget GET AN ANDREA MAACK TOTE BAG WITH EVERY SUDIO PURCHASE

A Handy List Of Tech Terms You’ve Probably Heard But Don’t Know The Meaning Of

Have you ever been in a situation where people are tossing tech terms and you’ve heard them before but you don’t know what they mean? There’s plenty of common terms we hear every day in meetings or classrooms that we are not familiar with. Here’s a list of the top terms you’ve probably heard but don’t know the meaning of.

1. The Internet vs. the Web

It’s very true, these terms may seem familiar but there’s a big difference between them.

The internet is basically a stream of different networks connected with each other globally so they can communicate and provide for each other. Computers are genuinely faster than anything, they perform millions of calculations and transfer information within seconds. Whereas the web can specify the information in the form of secret folders and documents, these different folders, specifically, are referred to as web pages.

Briefly, the internet is a set of connections and instruments which helps the web to perform or generate data with the help of these instruments.

2. App vs. Software

We are all familiar with the term “Applications”. An App or an application is actually a set of commands which performs a specific function in our mobile phones, laptop, or Macs. Anything performed in a system is basically done by software. So, apps are basically a type of software, but they are way different from the software which runs our iOS, Android, Windows, drivers, or any other utilities within the system.

Terms like exabytes are also common when talking about cloud storage and space. They essentially are made up of bytes and can store around 1 billion Gigabytes of space. Data storage or cloud storage capabilities of any device or platform hold immense importance in the tech world.

Those software are different because they operate the computer as a whole and allow these apps to run in the system. In short, apps cannot be run without software.

3. HTML vs. CSS

HTML or Hypertext Markup Language is the language used to compose website pages and describe their structure. It involves many components like passages, headers, and links. These components provide a structure for the web pages and display different images, fonts, and videos.

Cascading Style Sheet (CSS) advises internet browsers on how to arrange and style an HTML record. It is a simple method of adding style to web documents. At the end of the day, CSS enhances the presentation of the whole record. You can adjust different font colors, animations, and all the different types of things to make your record look flawless and well presented. To lay it out plainly, HTML holds the substance set up, and CSS makes it look appealing.

4. UX vs. UI

People believe that user interface and user experience are basically the same, but they are not. A user interface is basically a built product that communicates with the users to let the users know the expertise of a given website. UI tells how the whole operation is organized. On the other hand, user experience is our experience as a user with the presented website. UX are your thoughts of how you feel about the operation and how it looks. So as an example, the look of the new version of your Instagram feed is a part of UX, but it involves a change to UI.

5. Front End vs. Back End

The specific term front end refers to the user interface which is usually created by using a combination of technologies like HTML, CSS, or java scripts. The main focus of the front end is on what the users will visually see when they open their applications or web pages.

The front finish of a site is the visible part and is responsible for the look and feel of a web page. This incorporates HTML and CSS and the wide range of various things you take a look at in your program. The social media posts that update or the Google search terms that autocomplete are all due to the front-end programming language JavaScript.

The back end refers to the database, application, or server which provides the data on request, and is handled by people often called programmers or web developers. The back finish of a site is the part that makes it work. It incorporates several applications that instruct sites, and users cannot see the back end work but it is the code that communicates the database information to the browsers or the web pages.

On YouTube, for example, the appearance of your channel is the front end, and all the information is put away in the back end.

These are some terms mentioned in our daily lives, commonly heard over the TV, in our classroom, or in job meetings as well. It’s good to have a basic understanding so we don’t get confused every time somebody tosses one of these terms around. You probably heard them before but never knew their meaning, so go ahead and get yourself familiar with them.
