The Google Pixel 9 Pro and Pro XL are my current daily drivers the last while now and the first thing to do is pick up a case and the next in our case lineup is from Ringke for both devices from the Onyx range.
We have done several other brands and more to come so stay tuned for more cases for your new shiny Pixel 9 series over the next while.
The Ringke Onyx range are simple and to the point and look well on the phone giving you extra grip all round, these are not Magsafe compatible however do a good job regardless.
There is a tapered lip up front meaning you can easily navigate your phones screen and place it face down on any flat surface and on the rear the camera bar is also protected really well with the camera bar recessed in the case and again stops it getting marked and again lets you put it down on a flat surface in confidence, the keys are tactile too and work well as does wireless charging and you can also use a lanyard strap if you wish to do so.
Overall these cases do a good job and will give you some peace of mind should you drop your device and not expensive either.

The #MadebyGoogle event has just taken place and it is my favourite time of year to see what Google has to offer and again we have a full suite of devices and this time they all come to Ireland unlike last years foldable device which is great news for those who like such phones.
Of course being Google AI is one of their key features on their new devices along with other new features which look good making the new phones superb productivity tools and one we always carry on us all year round be it the Main staple model of the year or their A series..
Pixel 9 phones
The Pixel 9 phones have an elevated new look that puts the camera front and center with an evolution of our iconic camera bar. The sculpted design is stunning — and also feels good in your hand. Not one but two watches this time and thankfully a larger one to suit bigger wrists. Both the 41mm and the larger, all-new 45mm size have their most advanced Actua displays that are twice as bright as before, with a peak brightness of 2,000 nits — perfect for seeing your run stats mid-stride on a sunny day. They also automatically adjust to as low as 1 nit in dark environments for a more discreet glance, like when you are at the movies. The displays are bigger with smaller bezels: the 45mm watch showcases 40% more screen, and the 41mm offers 10% more screen than Pixel Watch 2. Loss of Pulse Detection: A first-of-its-kind feature on Pixel Watch 3
Pixel Watch 3 introduces a first-of-its-kind capability — Loss of Pulse Detection — which detects loss-of-pulse events occurring when the heart suddenly stops beating. It’s a health emergency, where every minute matters. It can affect people of any age and be due to a wide range of problems internal or external to the heart, such as primary cardiac arrest, respiratory or circulatory failure, overdose or poisoning. Unfortunately, many loss of pulse incidents happen when a person is alone, leaving them with effectively no chance of receiving emergency assistance.
Loss of Pulse Detection can automatically place a call to emergency services and share an automated message with critical context, along with your location. It will be available on Pixel Watch 3 in September in various countries in Europe.

The 41mm comes in a Matte Obsidian case with a Matte Black band, Porcelain with Polished Silver, and Hazel with Champagne Gold. Google have launched their first official watch which is of course smart and the same applies to the watch as did the phone and any tech we do not do leaks for clicks we wait for the product to be in our hands for assessment and the day has come us to check it out.
I have many smartwatches here as our readers know and a fan for several reasons, it keeps you off your phone more you can do things from the watch if required to do so and get on without the need to take your phone out of your pocket and this was a conversation I had with Nokia mobile here in Dublin last week with some of their feature phones and the same applies to a watch whereby it is less distracting and you can chose to ignore or reply to emails and social etc which is also good for the mental health I think..
Now with this offering from Google it appears to be a fitness orientated watch on top of being smart at the same time and as we know they bought fitbit and fitbit did not cut it offering more for the user but was heavy on the fitness end of things and was more a product for people into fitness but with not much other functionality which I understand, different strokes for different folks and all that but this has changed somewhat.
Again there has been commentary on this watch which I chose to ignore and make my own assessments and so far it has been more so on the bad side, again form folks who typically pick on Google and do not have the product in hand and snuff the idea of its existence which is fine don’t get me wrong but it is down to the hands on experience after all and what the product does isn’t it?

The Google Pixel 7 has arrived and once again we avoided all the leaks and wait until the device is in our hands to see for ourselves what is on offer and still using the Pixel 6a which I am loving it is time to see what the new member of the family has to offer, being a pixel user from their first ever device these are phones that stay in my hands longer than others as I have an entire Google ecosystem at home and it all works very seamlessly.
There is some cool new features of course with the new device and once again makes live simple, some we have seen before and enhanced and there is an argument over which device is better value for money with the price, we have a bumped up Tensor chip G2 which is their own inhouse chip.
We have a 6.3 inch Oled screen with 416 PPI, 1400 nits and 2400 X 1080 panel, A 90hz refresh rate here which is a bit disappointing some will say as it is the new buzzword but for me it is no huge deal being honest having used and own devices with 120hz refresh rate for the most I have has to point this out and show people and not really a deal breaker to be frank but others would disagree and nitpick like we always see for Google devices at launch bit no so loud on iPhone shortcomings and I own an iPhone 14 pro which so far has been pretty much the same as before, having said that it is a tech cycle and we often see a small jump in specs and then companies calling old things new and then features arriving later and so on and claiming they are new, you know how it goes and often it is funny how they take each other off on social media. Banter never did anyone any harm.
The rear has changed to a metal visor style this time and for the better and one piece with a 50MP camera that comes with OIS 12MP ultra wide and but no telephoto camera, the front camera is 10.8 MP and as we know Google has done cameras very well over the years even with a single lens option. There is new features here like Cinematic blur which and face unblur and for that you can tidy up some old photos but we will see more on that in the full review later on. We also have 4K 60fps which is plenty in my eyes, currently I have a phone that shoots in 8K which is pointless today. You will need to update the app because it will keep crashing until you do. Also note the Pixel watch app will need to be installed.
The battery again is of course another feature people often speak about which comes in at 4355mAh and smaller than last years which was 4614mAh if my memory serves me right so it will be interesting to see how that fair out in our testing, there is new features to come to the Pixel 7 later down the road.
Today we take a tour of the Pixel 6 and have a look at the UI and see what is there and check out the phone in general as we always do here and let you see what it is all about and if you have any questions feel free to ask, we only have the device in our hands for 3 days and so far so good but it takes more than that to give an honest review which we will have in a few weeks and a better assessment loaded with all the apps for example and any updates that arrive in the interim and see how it gets on and I expect to see good things going forward as always and we will report them here and if there is any shortcomings but for the price it looks like another winner and is the pro version worth the extra 250 euro they ask??

PIxel 6 cases are far and few between locally right now but we have some on the way and today we check out the Otterbox Symmetry case for the Pixel 6 we also have the Pixel 6 Pro variant here so until our Pro version drops in you can get an idea what it looks like.
The Pixel 6 Pro is by no means cheap however when it comes to value for money you cant beat this phone right now but you do need protection nonetheless and the Symmetry case just gives you this from top to bottom front and back, the device can be placed face down and or course on its back and the case also gives you additional grip, We all know how slippery the devices are and this takes care of that problem too.
Wireless charging is also no problem here and the case will allow it despite the thickness and it works fine on several wireless chargers I have here at home so fear not you do not need to remove the case to charge the device wirelessly.

The Pixel 6 in finally here and I look forward to testing this beast out over the coming weeks. My Pixel 5 has been my daily driver for the last year and has served me really well and there is some difference here between the two and a massive overhaul on design which is for the better in my opinion, you can read our review on the Pixel 5 here, After a few minutes with the all new Pixel 6 Ilike what I see and it feels really premium too and has a look that now differentiates it from all other smartphones out there which is a good thing.

Finally the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are here, the completely redesigned Google phones, are here. My Pixel 5 has been my daily driver since launch date and it actually has shot most of my videos on You Tube and I still use it today and find it hard to put down, it is a year old now and seems to be on the small side compared to newer devices I am using but I am glad to see we have two new options from Google now to play with over the coming weeks, and of course we will have our hands on reviews soon a more in the coming days. Another huge talking point is the new Tensor SoC, Google’s first-ever processor, and shipping with Android 12, both phones are fast, smart, secure and designed to adapt to you.

New Pixel, new camera
Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro have the most advanced cameras we’ve ever built. The entire camera experience is improved from the hardware to Pixel’s revolutionary computational photography.
Both Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro have a new 1/1.3 inch sensor on the back. This primary sensor now captures up to 150% more light (compared to Pixel 5’s primary camera), meaning you’re going to get photos and videos with even greater detail and richer color. Both phones also have completely new ultrawide lenses with larger sensors, so photos look great when you want to fit more in your shot.

Another significant advancement in photography across Pixel and Google Photos is Real Tone. Going back decades, cameras have been designed to photograph light skin — a bias that’s crept into many of our modern digital imaging products and algorithms. Smarts and speech
Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro also have improved speech recognition and language understanding models, so it can make everyday tasks easier. For instance, you can now use your voice to quickly type, edit, and send messages with Assistant voice typing in Messages, Gmail and more. Let Google Assistant help with adding punctuation, making corrections, inserting emojis and sending your messages – hands-free.
You might find yourself occasionally trying to decide if you have time to call a business now, or if you should call later to avoid waiting on hold. Now, Wait Times and Direct My Call, available in the U.S. and in English, make that decision easier: Before you even place your call to a toll-free business number, you’ll see the current and expected hour-by-hour Wait Times for the rest of the week.
And when you call the business, Direct My Call helps you get to the right place. Powered by Duplex technology, Google Assistant transcribes the automated message and menu options for you in real-time and displays them on your screen for you to see and tap. Finally, Live Translate enables you to message with people in different languages, including English, French, German, Italian and Japanese. It works by detecting whether a message in your chat apps, like WhatsApp or Snapchat, is different from your language, and if so, automatically offers you a translation. All of this detection and processing happens entirely on-device within Private Compute Core, so no data ever leaves the device, and it works even without network connectivity. With support for Interpreter mode, you’ll also be able to take turns translating what is said in up to 48 languages. Activate Assistant and say “Be my interpreter.”
One more thing: When you get an incoming call, just say “accept” or “decline” without having to use “Hey Google” every time by enabling Quick phrases. You can also “stop” and “snooze” alarms and timers.

Google today dropped some information on their upcoming devices the Pixel 6 and PIxel 6 pro and no they are NOT leaks, we don’t cover leaks and never will and we rather wait to get our news from the horse’s mouth and today that has happened with the two much anticipated devices set to launch this year and eager fans of pixel devices like myself look forward to getting one of them when they do launch.
The Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 pro will come with their own silicon too which is akin to what other manufacturers like Apple Huawei and Samsung are doing and this can be cost saving which hopefully reflects in the price when they do launch so let’s see what the specs are that have been dropped today.. No battery capacity has been given which is interesting but with their new silicon the Tensor SoC (System on a Chip) you would be sure to see things very well optimized.

Design
The design would bring you back to the Nexus P which had a bar going right across the rear which is fine and the new design is quite nice too and moving away from the usual set with a block on one side and I think it is nice and it stands out, this is placed high on the top of the device and this means the phone should not rock if flat on a table and presuming there will be cases to go with the devices this will also eliminate the rocking effect and of course offer added protection and it will be nice to see what cases they do bring us on launch day.
Colours
The colour scheme here too is nice and different and moving away from the traditional offerings most manufacturers give us and in saying that they did so with the Pixel 5 from last year which I still use today and love it the two tone look is quite nice and there is two finishes on the camera bar one being silver and one being black and my preference being the silver finish with the orange accents.
Why show off these devices now one might ask? Well google have been known not to keep their cards close to their chest but they have left out some other important specs but at least we get to see the device and maybe they are flexing abit here and is shaping up to be a true flagship
When the pixel buds launched last year they were very well received and what was most striking about them was their size and shape and then once worn the fit was also great, they were called mints etc but does that matter if they sound good and look good and don’t stand out like some earbuds do? Not in my book and they only got better as time went on too making them an easy recommendation given they are seen as pricey they still remain in my top 5 earbuds today. So how can the new A-Series come in at half the price and stack up to last years? Well they do it and are a real challenger to what Apple have done with the new beats studio buds and still coming in cheaper.
You do get some omissions though for the price you will pay but if you are not fussy with these omissions you are onto a winner here and you get great value for money in this crowded market but the A series hold many of the previous models traits you would be hard pressed to spot the difference between both unless you are a tech head.

This time around they have a glossy finish rather than matt but this is fine, there is no wireless charging which might be a deal breaker for some especially those who invest in wireless charging and the gestures and volume control are gone but this can be addressed with the Google Assistant which is always on by the way..There is still one more bearbug though and that is the lack of ANC.
When it comes to sound they pretty much sound the same as before which is certainly most welcome here so you do not loose out on the sound quality and also the connection issues have been addressed, you also have the pixel buds app to tune things to your needs which is great and it is a great app it must be said and nice and clean.
The big question here overall is and after my testing which overall for me are easy to recommend is the price worth it, they are comfortable, they lack ANC and have average battery life for what is out there today but if you can live with some compromises they are for you but if you want some more they are not but this is where you end up paying more they are a case of you get what you pay for but some more but there is alternatives out there with cheaper but some not well known brands however these are worth the 99 euro price tag overall for me, See the video below for more..
