Introducing LifeOS:  More than a health tracker, a living intelligence

LifeOS is designed to decode how the body, mind, and environment interact, going beyond raw data. It is the most data trained AI wearable intelligence integrating circadian rhythm science, biomarker signals, personal habits, and contextual data (like chat patterns and daily routines) to create a dynamic intelligence layer.

  • Circadian alignment: LifeOS learns an individual’s internal body clock to guide daily peak performance.
  • Contextual intelligence: It adapts to a user’s lifestyle, habits, and environment.
  • Open & extensible: Built as an open-source plug, LifeOS is designed to ingest additional data streams over time.
  • Trained at scale: LifeOS is powered by over 1 billion sleep events, making it the most extensively trained intelligence layer across rings.
  • 21+ day battery life: Powered by a redesigned charging case, making Luna one of the longest-lasting smart rings available.

Smarter wellness, backed by AI:

  • AI-driven health scoring: Luna Ring 2.0 delivers real-time sleep, readiness, and activity scores. These scores are powered by an upgraded Luna AI engine that analyses physiological patterns to offer personalised recommendations on sleep quality, stress resilience, and recovery.
  • Luna AI 2.0 assistant: Building on user feedback, the new AI system is more contextual and conversational, offering proactive suggestions for sleep optimisation, movement patterns, and energy management, bridging the gap between raw data and real-life wellness decisions.
  • Comprehensive activity logging: The ring supports advanced workout tracking, including heart rate zones, effort levels, calories burned, and more across structured activities such as running, cycling, walking, and freestyle sessions.
  • Fertility tracking: Luna detects physiological shifts in an individual’s cycle like temperature and recovery to predict phases and personalise wellness insights.
  • Manage stress: Luna spots signs of stress through heart rate, recovery trends, and temperature shifts so patterns can be identified and action taken.
  • Body training: Luna tracks daily effort and recovery to guide smarter workouts, helping build fitness without burning out.
  • Enhanced sleep analytics: Luna 2.0 now provides deeper sleep analysis with expanded insights into latency, efficiency, circadian rhythm alignment, sleep cycles, movement disturbances, and respiratory performance during rest. This demonstrates how quality of sleep affects wellbeing.

Global Rollout and Momentum

Luna 2.0 has had pre-orders across 70+ countries. Retail and distributor prescence is being established across the world for faster delivery and service. Unveiled at CES, 2025 as a first time concept, bringing Luna 2.0 to the global tech stage for the first time at IFA Berlin is an exciting step for Luna as Europe is a key focus market.

“Luna 2.0 represents a step-change in what a smart ring can do,” said Amit Khatri, Founder of Luna. “With LifeOS, we’re moving beyond passive health tracking into an era where your ring actively helps you make better decisions for performance, recovery, and long-term health.”

Teen-Turn Launches 2025 Incubator in Galway

Last Saturday, teenage girls from across Ireland gathered at Portershed, a modern co-working hub in Galway’s city centre, for the launch of Teen-Turn’s 2025 Innovators programme, which is backed in part by BNY. The event marked the beginning of a year-long initiative designed to help participants turn promising afterschool projects into viable tech start-ups.

Each year, several Teen-Turn teams develop ideas with real commercial potential — projects that could be brought to market or at least developed into minimum viable products (MVPs). The Innovators programme supports these teams through incubator and accelerator phases. By offering expert mentorship and hands-on support, with guidance from industry and academic professionals, participants are taken through the early stages of the start-up process — from concept to MVP, and, in some cases, company formation.

“I’m really looking forward to this year’s Incubator and the opportunity to work with such a talented and driven group of young women,” said Iseult Mangan, Regional Manager for Teen-Turn. “It’s a privilege to be part of a programme that helps transform those ideas into real-world solutions with impact — empowering these girls to become founders, build sustainable companies, and contribute meaningfully to society.”

The projects in this year’s cohort are solving problems that are both personal and surprisingly universal — the kinds of ideas that don’t always come from the tech industry, but should. Examples include, from Shannon, Caoimhe, Chloe and Biella are building Focus Future, a platform to help families manage the day-to-day challenges of dementia care. From Claremorris, Ema and Simona are developing Evolve Era, an AI-powered health journal that helps track, analyse and potentially flag skin conditions before they escalate. Michaela (Galway), Orlaith (Mayo), and Flourish (Limerick) are behind Own It, an app designed to help girls and young women navigate menstrual health alongside their sporting and academic lives. And Laila (Longford) and Sofiia (Wicklow) are working on Sweet Health, a diabetes and sugar intake management app.

At the launch, the 2025 cohort had the chance to meet alumnae from previous years of Innovators — and get a glimpse of where their own projects might be headed next. Companies from the 2024 year group, who have graduated from the Incubator to the Accelerator phase, are now introducing to the market their tested MVPs. Donna Mae (Clare) and Dana (Mayo) created Gestura, a sign language learning and translation app. And Nora and Elizabeth, both from Galway, developed UNDump, an app encouraging the reuse and recycling of clothing and household items.

From the 2023 Innovators cohort, Mary Lillibeth, Katie and Aoibheann, all from Mayo, will now embark on the final programme phase of the Teen-Turn initiative, known as Vector. Vector groups benefit from PayPal supports. Their app, HerdSync, is a farm management tool designed to digitise how Irish farms are run. What started a couple of years ago as a Technovation project after school is now being adopted by target users.

At Saturday’s launch, the girls had the chance to work with mentors Joe Smyth, SVP of R&D, AI, Digital and Journey Management at Genesys and Co-founder of Altocloud, and Alice Shaughnessy, Clinical R&D Engineer at Luminate Medical and Co-founder of Mirr. Both entrepreneurs shared their own journeys to startup exits and offered guidance throughout the day. Providing young founders with the opportunity to meet people who have actually built something — those who have taken an idea and turned it into a real product, a real company — is a key part of the Innovators programme. “It wasn’t a huge event — just a small, focused group of teen girls and mentors in a hub — but it felt like the right space to start something meaningful,” said Laila Faissal, one of this year’s participants.

For those girls entering into the incubator phase, in particular, the day marked their first step into the business world not just as learners, but as creators and early-stage founders. With mentorship, peer support, and the backing of industry professionals, they’re developing skills — and products — that could shape Ireland’s future.  The work ahead of them won’t be easy. But the message is clear: they belong in the room — and they’re just getting started.

About Teen-Turn: Teen-Turn is an Irish non-profit organisation that provides teen girls, particularly those from underserved communities, the opportunity to gain hands-on STEM experience and the support to acquire qualifications and jobs. More information on their activities and the support they provide to girls is available at www.teen-turn.com.

emporia WATCHjoy Smartwatch Review

The emporia WATCHjoy Smartwatch is the companies latest wearable on offer and is ideal for seniors and any one less being honest if you want a simple to use smartwatch not laden with complicated menus and UI.

Having tested this watch now for some time for me it is a smartwatch the gets the job done and gives you more than the basics in similarity priced offerings.

This watch looks more on the premium side and would easily pass the price you would expect to pay and is robust too with a good strap and again easy to swap out ones a that.

The display is bright and big enough to read anything on board and the app to go with it is familiar to me as I have used before several times on other entry level priced watches and the app is quite good in fairness and allows you to monitor important statistics over time as you will see below and in the video review.

You can take calls on the watch and the speaker is loud enough you can read your emails and text however no way to respond tho them which for me is not a huge deal as I hardly ever did in the first place it is a way to keep you off your phone however and check back in later on.

For those who want more you get more the the FitCloud app with an endless lit of sports and much more, there is also an endless gallery of watch faces to make it your own or upload your own creations where possible.

Battery life here is also excellent and depending on how much you have synced to the app you can easily get up to seven days on one charge unlike me with all going to it you can get up to 4 days and for a smartwatch that is good. Accuracy is also another point to note and has been fairly consistent with another watch during the test period.

Overall this is a really solid product for emporia to have in their portfolio and for me a watch i still wear today and would easily recommend if you are on a budget.

Whoop 4.0 review

Over the last few months I have been testing out the WHOOP 4.0 and now I am testing out the new WHOOP 5.0 MG and after using the WHOOP 4.0 I can say it has changed me in several ways including habits which I find a good thing and not only that I did wear this to bed for test duration something I never done even with smartwatches and still do not.

I have countless smartwatches that can give me stats on the fly all day long and they are getting better but boring too all doing the same thing however I do use the stats to keep in check but WHOOP has given me more insights than you could imagine with much more than expected even my doctor was impressed with how it works.

I have noticed more and more people wearing WHOOP over the last few months and have actually stopped some and asked how they feel about it and it is all positive bar the price with some, on the price though you can pick a plan just like you can go out and buy a smartwatch at any price tier and get what you pay for.

What is different with WHOOP there is no screen to start with so you are not constantly looking at your wrist all day long like you would with a watch I have taken off my smartwatch much more now trying to escape the notifications given this keeps me off my phone which is the purpose of wearing a watch but at times you just need a detox and no better time than now, also I did compare some factors with several watches to WHOOP to see how consistent it was and it indeed was consistent.

The features on WHOOP 4.0 are a plenty like sports for instance same as a smartwatch however it is the data it delves into that is much deeper than what your traditional smartwatch can give and all the other features that come with it, from selecting activities, recovery, strain and of course sleep activity which is something I always avoid, wearing a watch to bed and I do have a sleep problem but wore this to bed to just see how bad it actually is and it is horrific.

Having passed this info to my doctor he is now going to try help but over the years I have tried everything and nothing worked I have now though on the say so of WHOOP changed my lifestyle in many ways I am less stressed however the sleep issue will be a long term cure I think. You do have a community on WHOOP and a journal which I find handy too and these should be used daily to keep in check if you want to achieve goals.

You can see some results down below of how I got on and now testing the new MG model I will continue to monitor my health and will update again later on but for me with what this offers it is the only tech product that has changed me in several ways and for the better at my age ditching old habits and gaining new ones.

Mater Hospital Launches Ireland’s first AI Centre in a Clinical Setting to Transform Patient Care

The Mater Misericordiae University Hospital (MMUH) has become the first hospital in Ireland to establish a Centre for AI and Digital Health. The new hub, which will be based at the Pillar Centre for Transformative Healthcare, will utilise artificial intelligence (AI) to solve clinical problems across the hospital and, through research, develop AI-driven solutions to improve patient care and outcomes.

The Mater Hospital’s Centre for AI and Digital Health has been brought about through the collaboration of consultants, researchers and hospital leadership, and will make a tangible difference in patient care. From reducing emergency department waiting times, to assisting in diagnostics and automating time-consuming tasks, the Centre will place the Mater Hospital at the forefront of AI-driven healthcare innovation in Ireland.

“AI has the power to transform how we deliver healthcare,” said Erin Daly, Operations Manager for the Pillar Centre for Transformative Healthcare. “At the Mater Hospital, we are developing AI solutions that directly improve clinical processes, whether it’s streamlining workflows, assisting in medical research, or helping doctors make faster, data-driven decisions.”

The Mater Hospital’s new hub for AI-driven medical advancements is overseeing the adoption of AI and engaging in research across multiple medical specialties, including radiology, oncology, cardiology, and ophthalmology.

“This centre offers a unique opportunity to bring together clinical and technical expertise to adopt and innovate with AI in Irish healthcare,” says Paul Banahan, Senior AI Research Fellow at the Mater Hospital.

Among some of its pioneering research projects are:

  • AI-driven automation which will help to identify suitable patients for clinical trials in oncology. This will significantly reduce the 16 hours per week it currently takes a nurse to manually scan these lists, speeding up patient access to clinical trials.

  • The reduction in the number of cardiac fluoroscopy video x-ray images, and subsequently the radiation exposure to both the patients and clinical staff, through real-time AI generated images.

  • The synthetic spinal imaging project, which has developed a generative AI that can convert lumbar spine CT images into synthetic MRI images for Cauda Equina Syndrome presentations, allowing for better and more robust out-of-hour or emergency care planning and treatment.

Speaking on the potential applications of AI in cardiology, Prof. Joe Galvin, Consultant Cardiologist at the Mater Hospital said, “AI has the potential to enhance the accuracy of ECG and radiology scan analysis, reducing the time that a patient has to wait for the results of their diagnosis and, if required, starting their treatment sooner.  If a patient suffers from cardiovascular disease, stroke or cardiac arrest, every minute counts. AI’s ability to increase accuracy and speed may be life-saving.”

While AI promises significant benefits, the Centre is equally focused on its responsible and ethical implementation. Robust data protection and management frameworks are being developed to ensure patient safety and privacy, as well compliance with best practices.

“AI in healthcare must be implemented with care, accountability, and a clear focus on improving patient outcomes,” said Josephine Ryan Leacy, CEO of the Mater Hospital. “The Mater Hospital’s Centre for AI and Digital Health is focused on ensuring that AI is developed and deployed in a way that prioritises patient safety, transparency and real clinical benefits.”

The Centre’s work is already proving invaluable, with AI solutions contributing to the reduction of emergency department waiting times and optimising hospital workflows. In the Mater’s Radiology department, AI is assisting in the rapid notification of suspected pathologies, like stroke and fractures, which are being correctly flagged by AI within 2-3 minutes of the scan being completed, with an accuracy rate of over 90%. Mater Hospital Consultant Radiologist Prof. Peter MacMahon said, “Our experiences have underscored the tangible benefits of AI, notably in expediting critical diagnoses and reducing turnaround times by rapidly flagging anomalies detected in scans.”

“Bringing AI into clinical practice is not just about innovation, it’s about making healthcare more efficient, effective, and accessible,” said Prof Brendan Kinsley, Clinical Director of the Pillar Centre for Transformative Healthcare. “The Mater Hospital’s Centre for AI and Digital Health is laying the groundwork for a smarter, more responsive healthcare system, and I am incredibly proud to see this vision come to life.”

For more information visit the Centre for AI and Digital Health website here.

Over the last few months I have been testing out the WHOOP 4.0 and about to drop a review on that soon which comes perfectly timed to test out the new WHOOP 5.0 MG and after using the WHOOP 4.0 I can say it has changed me in several ways including habits which I find a good thing and not only that I did wear this to bed for test duration something I never done even with smartwatches and still do not.
