Salesforce ODBC Connectivity: Best Drivers for Reliable Data Access

Companies use Salesforce ODBC drivers to connect Salesforce data directly to BI, reporting, ETL, and analytics tools. ODBC eliminates the need to write custom API integrations and allows Salesforce objects to be queried using SQL from standard data platforms.

In practice, ODBC drivers enable teams to:

  • Connect Salesforce to Power BI, Tableau, Qlik, Excel, and ETL platforms
  • Run SQL-based reporting on Salesforce objects
  • Automate scheduled data exports and incremental refreshes
  • Join Salesforce data with on-premise or cloud databases
  • Centralize analytics without building custom middleware

For analytics teams, ODBC drivers convert Salesforce’s API-based model into a relational-style interface that standard BI tools understand. For IT teams, they provide a managed, repeatable connectivity layer with defined authentication and configuration options. For data engineers, they reduce integration complexity while preserving control over refresh behavior, security, and performance parameters.

Reliable connectivity matters because Salesforce is often a core CRM system feeding dashboards, executive reports, finance models, and operational pipelines. A driver is not just a connector—it becomes part of the data infrastructure stack.

Salesforce ODBC Drivers Compared

Below are four established commercial drivers frequently used in BI and enterprise data environments.

1. Devart ODBC Driver for Salesforce

Positioning: Balanced SQL coverage + cross-platform + bulk-oriented workloads

Devart focuses on delivering extended SQL support over Salesforce objects while maintaining OAuth-based secure connectivity. It supports Windows, macOS, and Linux, making it suitable for mixed desktop and server environments.

Key characteristics:

  • OAuth authentication over HTTPS
  • Extended SQL support (joins, grouping, filtering)
  • Cross-platform (Windows/macOS/Linux)
  • Batch updates for handling larger data modifications
  • Broad compatibility with BI and ETL tools

Devart is typically positioned for teams that need strong SQL ergonomics and flexible deployment across different operating systems while maintaining performance during larger refresh jobs.

  1. Progress DataDirect ODBC Driver for Salesforce

Positioning: Enterprise-scale performance and bulk operations

Progress DataDirect emphasizes high-performance connectivity and large-volume data processing. It is often selected in environments where Salesforce data refreshes are heavy and SLA-driven.

Key characteristics:

  • Focus on performance optimization
  • Transparent bulk operations
  • Enterprise multi-platform support
  • Designed for high-volume data movement
  • Common in centralized IT deployments

This driver is typically associated with organizations running large, scheduled refreshes and centralized BI environments where performance under concurrency is critical.

  1. Easysoft ODBC-Salesforce Driver

Positioning: SQL and SOQL flexibility + Windows-heavy deployments

Easysoft provides both SQL-oriented and SOQL-oriented driver options, which is a structural difference compared to most competitors.

Key characteristics:

  • Separate SQL and SOQL driver modes
  • OAuth support (Windows)
  • Strong compatibility with Office-based reporting tools
  • Integration scenarios involving local databases

Easysoft can be relevant where teams require SOQL-like behavior or primarily operate in Windows reporting environments.

  1. Simba Salesforce ODBC Driver (insightsoftware / Magnitude)

Positioning: Standardized ODBC connectivity across data ecosystems

Simba drivers are widely embedded or referenced in many analytics platforms. The Salesforce driver is known for conventional ODBC configuration patterns and documented OAuth connection string support.

Key characteristics:

  • OAuth 2.0 connection string configuration
  • TLS-secured communication
  • Commonly referenced in BI tool documentation
  • Structured DSN and DSN-less deployment options

Simba is frequently selected where standardized ODBC configuration and documentation alignment with analytics platforms are priorities.

Structural Differences Between the Drivers

Instead of feature checklists, the real differences appear in architecture and operational focus.

Driver Core Strength Architectural Focus Deployment Style Volume Handling
Devart Extended SQL + cross-platform flexibility SQL translation depth Desktop + server mixed Batch updates, balanced performance
DataDirect Enterprise performance Bulk optimization engine Centralized enterprise IT Strong at large-scale extracts
Easysoft SQL vs SOQL dual model Query-mode flexibility Windows-heavy Moderate workloads
Simba Standardized ODBC implementation Conventional ODBC architecture BI ecosystem alignment Standard analytics loads

Summary: Differences That Matter

All four drivers provide commercial, production-ready Salesforce connectivity via ODBC. The differences lie in architectural emphasis rather than basic capability.

  • Devart emphasizes SQL flexibility, cross-platform availability, and balanced bulk handling.
  • Progress DataDirect emphasizes enterprise-grade performance and large-scale bulk optimization.
  • Easysoft differentiates with dual SQL/SOQL driver models and Windows-focused reporting compatibility.
  • Simba emphasizes standardized ODBC configuration widely documented across analytics platforms.

Salesforce ODBC connectivity is not a commodity layer when analytics pipelines, scheduled refreshes, and reporting environments depend on it daily. The practical differences between drivers emerge in performance under load, SQL behavior, authentication management, and deployment environments.

Each of these tools serves a distinct operational profile. The right choice depends on infrastructure structure, query patterns, security policies, and expected data volume—not on marketing claims.

One-Third of HGV Drivers Now Over 55

With almost one-third (31%) of Ireland’s HGV drivers now aged 55 or over, the logistics workforce is facing a deepening labour crisis as the sector moves into 2026. Large operators are fast-tracking investment in robotics, Autonomous Mobile Robots and data-driven Warehouse Management Systems. The continued expansion of Ireland’s robotics market in 2025 has shifted the skillset inside the warehouse, driving demand for mechatronics, maintenance, controls and data roles.

Despite Government-backed efforts in 2025, including an expanded Logistics & Supply Chain Skills Week[1] and additional HGV and logistics apprenticeships, the replacement pipeline remains under strain, leaving demand for qualified drivers at critical levels.

This shortage forms part of a wider pattern highlighted in Excel Recruitment’s newly published 2026 Industrial & Warehousing Salary Guide, which shows a sector under mounting pressure from rising employment costs, automation-driven skills demand, and persistent talent shortages. With Ireland’s unemployment rate at 5.3%[2], competition for qualified candidates remains intense – particularly for HGV drivers, warehouse operatives, and technical maintenance roles.

John Kearns, Industrial Division Manager at Excel Recruitment, commented:
“The industrial and warehousing sector is resilient, but the cost of employment is rising faster than ever. SMEs in particular are feeling the squeeze as they try to balance competitive pay while absorbing escalating statutory costs.

Automation is not replacing people, but it is changing what employers value. Rather than reducing headcount, automation is reshaping it, with employers now seeking adaptable workers who can combine hands-on experience with basic technical or digital skills.

Adaptability, technical skills, and digital literacy are now critical for long-term success. At the same time, the ageing workforce, especially among drivers, adds another layer of complexity to an already tight labour market”.

The Excel Recruitment Industrial & Warehousing Salary Guide 2026 reveals a dual challenge facing employers: rising payroll costs[3] and the urgent need to upskill staff as automation reshapes traditional roles.

Key Findings from the report include:

  • Cost Pressures: The minimum wage increase to €14.15/hour, PRSI hikes, and pension auto-enrolment are tightening employer budgets.
  • Skills Shortages: 65% of employers report moderate to severe skills shortages, particularly in HGV driving, maintenance, and digital operations.
  • Automation Impact: Investment in robotics and smart manufacturing surged by 50% in 2025, driving demand for mechatronics engineers, PLC technicians, and WMS superusers.
  • In-Demand Roles:
    • Drivers: HGV (C/CE), last-mile van drivers remain critical amid an ageing workforce.
    • Warehouse Operatives (with tech fluency): RF scanners, voice/vision pick, and basic WMS reporting skills have become increasingly essential.
    • Technical Specialists: Electro-mechanical maintenance technicians, PLC/controls techs, mechatronics engineers, WMS/OMS superusers and data analytics roles are commanding premium salaries.
    • Leadership & Compliance: Operations/warehouse managers, EHS/ESG coordinators, and customs/trade compliance specialists remain vital.

Looking Ahead

Excel Recruitment reports that despite challenges in the sector, demand for workers remains strong, driven by e-commerce growth, nearshoring, and green logistics. Employers who invest in training pathways, predictable shift patterns, and enhanced benefits will have a competitive edge in attracting and retaining talent.

Mr. Kearns noted,

“What really stands out from this year’s guide is how automation and workforce pressures are reshaping the industrial sector. For employers, it’s not just about filling roles – they need to rethink how teams are structured, what skills to invest in, and how to retain their people. Companies that embrace innovation and offer flexible working conditions will have a real advantage in attracting and keeping talent.

For SMEs, this is particularly challenging. They are being asked to compete in a market where technical skills and leadership capability are increasingly what set successful companies apart. On top of this, the ageing workforce and rising employment costs add further pressure. The employers that succeed will be those who combine upskilling, employee engagement, and clear training pathways to create a workplace people genuinely want to stay in”.

“I just followed my instinct, I explained to the customer that there was no rush and that I could take the time as helping people is just part of my job. I enjoy my job at Asda for different reasons, however, working in customer service has given me the opportunity to make a positive impact on somebody else’s day and there is nothing more rewarding than that. Kindness costs nothing!”

The customer was so pleased with Jason’s assistance that she contacted Asda Portadown, praising Jason as a credit to the company and that her positive experience would encourage her to use Asda’s delivery service again.

Kate Oakes, General Store Manager at Asda Portadown said:

“Jason is a remarkable employee and always goes above and beyond for all customers. His dedication to making every customer feel valued is a testament to his hard work and commitment. We’re privileged to work with him, thank you, Jason!”

Top Essential Tools for Improving Driver Safety and Compliance

In today’s fast-paced world, ensuring driver safety and compliance has become more crucial than ever. With the rise of technology, various tools are now available to help enhance safety and ensure that drivers adhere to regulations.

These tools not only protect drivers but also improve overall efficiency and reduce costs for businesses. Let’s explore some essential tools that can significantly improve driver safety and compliance.

Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)

Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) are a game-changer in the automotive industry. These systems encompass a range of technologies designed to aid drivers and enhance safety.

Key components include Lane Departure Warning Systems, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Automatic Emergency Braking. ADAS helps prevent accidents by alerting drivers to potential hazards and, in some cases, taking corrective actions.

Electronic Logging Devices (ELDs)

Electronic Logging Devices (ELDs) have revolutionised the way driver hours are monitored. These devices automatically record driving time, making it easier to comply with Hours of Service (HOS) regulations.

ELDs help reduce fatigue-related accidents by ensuring drivers take the necessary rest breaks. Moreover, by maintaining accurate records, you can avoid hefty fines and improve your fleet’s compliance with legal requirements.

Dash Cameras

Dash cameras have become indispensable tools for improving driver safety. Available in various types, such as front-facing and dual-facing cameras, they provide real-time video footage of driving events.

Dash cameras promote safer driving behaviour by keeping drivers accountable. In the event of an accident, the recorded footage serves as valuable evidence for investigations and insurance claims, helping to resolve disputes quickly and fairly.

Telematics Systems

Telematics systems offer comprehensive solutions for tracking and monitoring driver behaviour. These systems provide real-time data on vehicle location, speed, and driving patterns.

By implementing an automobile tracking system, you can optimise routes, enhance fuel efficiency, and monitor compliance with speed limits and other safety regulations. Telematics systems play a vital role in improving operational efficiency while ensuring driver safety.

Fleet Management Software

Fleet management software is a must-have for any business managing a fleet of vehicles. This software offers a range of features, including route planning, maintenance scheduling, and driver performance tracking.

By using fleet management software, you can ensure that your vehicles are well-maintained and that drivers adhere to scheduled maintenance checks. This not only enhances safety but also reduces the risk of breakdowns and costly repairs.

Mobile Applications for Drivers

Mobile applications have made it easier for drivers to stay connected and informed. Various apps assist drivers with navigation, providing real-time traffic updates and optimised routes.

Other apps facilitate pre-trip inspections and reporting, ensuring that vehicles are in good condition before hitting the road.

Mobile apps also enable seamless communication between drivers and fleet managers, promoting adherence to safety protocols and improving overall efficiency.

Compliance Management Tools

Managing regulatory compliance can be a daunting task, but compliance management tools simplify the process. These tools assist with record-keeping, reporting, auditing, and risk assessment.

By integrating these essential tools into your operations, you can significantly enhance driver safety and compliance.

Why Every Driver Needs To Be On The Lookout When Behind The Wheel

The roads can be dangerous places, and every driver needs to exercise caution when behind the wheel. Poor driving habits and hazardous conditions can lead to accidents that could have been avoided if drivers had been more vigilant. Being on the lookout for potential hazards is essential for staying safe on the road. Here’s why every driver needs to be on the lookout when behind the wheel.

1. Car accidents happen quickly

Car accidents can happen in the blink of an eye, and it’s not always easy to spot potential danger ahead. Even experienced drivers tend to underestimate how quickly things can go wrong on the road. That’s why it’s important for everyone behind the wheel to stay alert and be prepared for whatever might come their way. If you were involved in a car accident in Sevierville, you can find a lawyer that can help you out. Additionally, being on the lookout for potential hazards gives you more time to react and prevent the accident from occurring. It’s better to be aware and prepared than to have a split-second reaction that might not save you from the accident in time.

2. Poor driving habits are everywhere

Even if you are a conscientious driver, there is still a chance that you could be involved in an accident because of the negligence of another driver. Many drivers do not realize that texting and driving, eating while driving, or taking their eyes off the road for even a few moments can cause major harm to themselves and other drivers. It is important to always remain vigilant when on the roads and be aware of your own driving habits as well as those of others around you. This will help to ensure that you and the other drivers stay safe.

3. Hazards can be hard to spot

Driving safely means being alert and aware of the surroundings and ready to react quickly to any hazards that may arise. This includes other drivers, cyclists, pedestrians, animals, road conditions, weather, and more. Even if a driver is not speeding or breaking the law in some way, they can still be at risk of an accident due to external factors that are hard to spot ahead of time. It’s important for drivers to be constantly looking for potential hazards so that they can act quickly if necessary.

Lawyers who handle Motorcycle Accidents understand the unique risks that motorcyclists face on the road, including the limited protection they have compared to car drivers. They are skilled at investigating the circumstances of accidents and helping injured riders get the compensation they deserve for medical bills, lost wages, and pain and suffering.

4. It’s important to practice defensive driving

Defensive driving means being aware of your surroundings, including other drivers and pedestrians. Pay attention to traffic patterns, such as speed limits and lane changes. Always be prepared to react quickly; for example, when a child runs into the street without warning or an animal darts onto the road. Maintaining a safe distance between yourself and other vehicles gives you time to react if needed. While it’s impossible to predict every dangerous situation, being alert and proactive behind the wheel can help you avoid accidents.

5. It’s the law

In many countries, laws exist to protect drivers, bikers, pedestrians, and other commuters when they are out on the roads. This includes maintaining a certain speed limit, abiding by traffic rules, and being considerate of fellow travelers. Being aware of your surroundings while driving is not just common sense but also a legal obligation that every driver should follow. If any of these laws are broken, drivers may face hefty fines and even jail time and you may need a company like Isaacs and Isaacs to help. Therefore, it is important that drivers stay aware of their surroundings at all times in order to stay safe, legal, and out of trouble.

6. It’s one of the best safety tips out there

Pay attention to your surroundings. Be mindful of other drivers, pedestrians, cyclists, and any animals or wildlife that may be nearby. Keep an eye out for unexpected hazards such as potholes or dead animals on the road. Always look both ways before changing lanes and make sure you give yourself plenty of time and space to react to any potential danger. Don’t forget that anything can happen at any time so keep a watchful eye on everything around you! Safety always comes first!

Being aware of potential hazards and practicing defensive driving are both essential for every driver. Regardless of country or region, it’s important to know the laws and obey them at all times. With a little extra vigilance behind the wheel, drivers can avoid accidents while still enjoying their journeys safely. By keeping these tips in mind, drivers can stay safe while on the road and minimize their risk of injury or death.  So don’t forget to be aware and practice defensive driving—it could save your life!
