Alexion and DHL Express join forces in Ireland’s first 100% switch to sustainable aviation fuel for international air delivery of medicines

Alexion, AstraZeneca Rare Disease, and DHL Express today announced a landmark partnership in a bid to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) from the air freight of highly specialised medicines manufactured in Ireland. Alexion is the first company in Ireland to sign up to a 100% switch from traditional aviation fuel to sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). This alternative fuel will reduce GHG emissions by over 80% on average compared to traditional aviation fuel. The greener fuel will be switched on all European air freight shipments across 19 European countries.

Provided through the DHL GoGreen Plus service, SAF is used as a substitute to conventional fuel and can readily be used as a drop-in replacement in aircraft without the need for modifications to aircraft engines. Produced from waste and residue-based feedstock, such as used cooking oil, SAF has improved sustainability compared to traditional fossil jet fuel which is primarily derived from crude oil.

Reducing the GHG emissions associated with the transport of medicinal products is an important part of AstraZeneca’s wider sustainability strategy. This includes a focus on partnerships across the healthcare sector including supply chain decarbonisation. From 2030, the aim is to halve the entire value chain footprint (absolute Scope 3 GHG emissions), from a 2019 base year, on the way to becoming science-based net zero by 2045.

Sylvia Kiely, Vice President, Global Supply Chain and Product Strategy Lead, Alexion, AstraZeneca Rare Disease said “Moving our air freight to Sustainable Aviation Fuel is an important milestone in reaching our Scope 3 targets, with the ambition of being science-based net zero by 2045. Through our partnership with DHL Express we’ve signed up immediately to a 100% change in fuel, rather than scaling up over time, which demonstrates how seriously we take environmental stewardship.”

Brian Murray, Commercial & Same Day Director, DHL Express Ireland said “We are thrilled to partner with Alexion. Our GoGreen Plus service using emission-reduced Sustainable Aviation Fuel demonstrates the tangible impact of collaborative efforts to decarbonise the logistics industry and support our customers in achieving their sustainability goals. This initiative aligns perfectly with DHL’s sustainability strategy and our goal to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.”

Countries receiving the medicines under the GoGreen Plus service include Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Guernsey, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Luxemburg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and United Kingdom.

DHL sorry we missed you card scam

The latest scam now doing the rounds is one you would not be familiar with so it is time to buckle up and be aware and take heed at what the scammers are now up to.

This time of year we usually see a raise in sms scams from courier companies and more in fact I got one from PTSB the other day in which they have yet to respond to and make people aware. well done lads.

Being involved in the logistic industry years now this is a new one rather than a text or email and it is a missed call card left in your letterbox with no name on it, the giveaway here is there is a QR code on the right with a website address to type in and it is as you guessed a scam and some will fall for it thinking they have a missed parcel. This is for the DHL on demand service.

This all goes down well now with the hold up at holyhead and people will be in panic mode now hoping they have not missed a parcel for themselves or a gift purchased for someone else.

Below is two samples of what you need to watch out for the one on the left is a legitimate card DHL will leave and the one the right is the dodgy one so be extra aware of what is coming through on your phone and in your letterbox and have a great Christmas. Don’t get scammed.

DHL have advised the following

Important Update from DHL  We’re aware of social media and WhatsApp messages circulating today about a potential DHL “Not Home” card scam involving our On Demand Delivery service. Here’s what you need to know: Our couriers in Ireland DO leave official cards (see example) when no one is home to accept a delivery. These cards include a QR code for rescheduling your delivery. Scanning this QR code should redirect you to:
Alternatively, typing DHL.ie/ondemand in your browser will direct you to the same link.
Safety Tip: If you’re directed to a different address or encounter cards that don’t match our sample, do not interact with them. Stay vigilant and thank you for trusting DHL!

Alexion and DHL sign Ireland’s first pharmaceutical sustainability partnership to decarbonise freight of medicines

Alexion, AstraZeneca Rare Disease and DHL Global Forwarding Freight today announced a new partnership to commence Ireland’s first sustainable fuel deliveries using Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil (HVO) for the pharmaceutical industry.

By converting to HVO fuel, the two companies are aiming to reduce annual Greenhouse Gas (GHG) from road freight by up to 90% compared to GHG emissions associated with deliveries using diesel. The partners have identified multiple transport routes within Ireland, Northern Ireland, and Europe, which will all convert from diesel to HVO to deliver medicines manufactured in Alexion’s sites in Athlone and Blanchardstown, Dublin. HVO will be used in DHL’s vehicles on more than 500 deliveries, on an annual basis to 10 countries.

Produced from biomass such as used cooking oils and waste from food manufacture, HVO is a drop-in fuel, meaning it can be used within existing vehicles without compromising operational performance, removing the need for new infrastructure or fleet.

Reducing the GHG emissions associated with the transport of medicinal products is an important part of AstraZeneca’s wider sustainability strategy. This includes a focus on partnerships across the healthcare sector to accelerate the delivery of net-zero health systems, including supply chain decarbonisation. AstraZeneca has set a target to reduce absolute Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG emissions by 98% from 2015 base year.[i] From 2030, the aim is to halve the entire value chain footprint (absolute Scope 3 GHG emissions), from a 2019 base year, on the way to becoming science-based net zero by 2045.

Sylvia Kiely Vice President – Global Supply Chain and Product Strategy Lead, Alexion AstraZeneca Rare Disease said: Today’s announcement with DHL to move from Diesel to HVO fuel is another milestone in our commitment to reducing our environmental impact, and dependency on fossil fuels within our global supply chain in relation to Scope 3. By working with our partners to extend eco-conscious practices to our full freight network, we can further minimise our environmental impact and dependency on fossil fuels within our global supply chain.”

Maurice Meade, Managing Director of DHL Global Forwarding Freight, Ireland, said: “This is another step in the right direction as we strive to run more sustainable operations for

our customers that reduce the inherent Greenhouse emissions in transporting goods. We are delighted to see Alexion be one of the trailblazers to make this significant switch in approach and thereby follow-up on their sustainability goals with clear actions. This initiative perfectly aligns with our sustainability strategy at DHL Group, whereby our aim is to reduce all logistics-related emissions to net-zero by 2050.”

New DHL sms scam

Being a person that gets many packages a week I guess I would be prone to these scams but no I am not the only one, this text message landed on myphone last night so I did the usual and tinker around with the messages and went through the process to see where we are at here.

As seen above you can basically enter anything into the fields above for your personal details and it will will allow you carry onto the payment section for a small value which remains at 0.95 this morning still, however when you begin to enter your personal card details these auto pop up if you have your phone selected to do so, again however you can place anything but note you are never asked to enter a tracking number in the process, nor will you get a text message with the code, again this is a scam and scammers just trying to get your credit card details with half looks like a DHL portal but again the URL on top should be the main giveaway.

Again beware and let your friends and family know. The last notification of a scam on their website is here which needs to be adjusted.m

Bank of Ireland Fraud Alert: Think outside the box and beware of parcel fraud. #Parcels #Fraud #Smishing

Bank of Ireland has issued an advisory to consumers today to be extra vigilant against parcel fraud in the peak Christmas shopping and online delivery period.  With the seasonal upsurge in parcel delivery, the Bank has noted a high volume of calls from customers reporting fraudulent activity via ‘smishing’ texts where fraudsters send fake messages claiming to be from recognisable delivery companies.

These ‘smishing’ texts will ask a customer to follow to a link to a fraudulent payment site that will, for example, ask customers to pay a small customs charge or confirm details. The branding on these texts and the destination website will be of one of a household name delivery company like UPS, DPD or An Post. We have covered many of these here before if you search you will get an idea what to watch out for. Here is one example

Edel McDermott, Head of Fraud at Bank of Ireland said; “The middle of the busiest shopping period of the year is an obvious time for fraudsters to target consumers.  People may be distracted and have less available time to stop, think and check the details on a text and simply reply ‘automatically’ to a company they recognise.  There’s also a good chance that consumers will have bought something online recently so are more likely to think the text is genuine and click one of the fraudulent links currently in circulation.  If they do, they will be brought to a website where they are asked to give their Credit or Debit card details.  The message here is simple: no matter how busy you are, always pause before replying or clicking on a link and take the time to independently check whether a text is legitimate, even if it appears to be from a familiar brand or company. And never disclose confidential banking details”.

Reminders to consumers:

  • Always think before you click: Does this text refer to a legitimate delivery that you are expecting?
  • Do not respond to or click a link in an unsolicited text, even if it appears to be from a company that you recognise.  Always check independently that the text is genuine.
  • Do not use a phone number given to you in the text.
  • Never disclose confidential banking details or security details such as your any digits from your PIN or online password.

Bank of Ireland customers who think they have been the victim of this type of fraud, should contact the Bank as soon as possible: https://www.bankofireland.com/security-zone/report-fraud/

Bank of Ireland is committed to building awareness around fraud. Bank of Ireland will continue to focus on the issues around fraud, through the Bank’s own channels and by working collaboratively through the Bank and Payments Federation of Ireland (BPFI) FraudSMART campaign www.fraudsmart.ie

New DHL email scam to beware of. #DHL #Logistics #Scam #Phishing

Back in February this year there was a DHL scam doing the rounds via SMS which by no means is nothing new, However since then we have increased our online shopping due to the pandemic and this gives scammers a target to work on in some shape or form and it is not the last we will see of this either.

This time around the scam is via email and if you are a DHL customer or familiar with their emails you will see their email does not look like a typical email from DHL. On clicking the link seen in image 2 then image three all you need to do is look at the URL on top to see that this is a scam and just looking to get money from you by entering your credit card details, in short a phishing attempt for an apparent small fee., So as usual if you get an email like this just delete it and move along and let them keep trying..

We have contacted DHL and they have said “Hi Jim, thanks for your message and many thanks for sharing this with us. Our IT security team are aware of this matter. Many thanks.”

DHL and Viber SMS scams to watch out for here is all the details.@Viber @DHLExpressIre #DHL #Viber #Scams

Waking up to a scam is nothing new these days however getting up this morning I had several messages from followers regarding a Viber scam then yet I go the message myself and also a DHL scam which is something to take more interest in as it leads you to a website imitating DHL to give a payment of sorts.

The DHL one begins with an sms looking for a small fee to get your item delivered. DHL will not ask you for this information and if there is any issues with a package they will call you, they have a system in place anyway for dealing with transactions. This site is only trying to get steal your information which looks legit and some might be caught out here given the small amount they seek

The Viber group message going around is to join a group but leads you to a sex site but you are offered the chance to block or open the link so use your head and just block it and pass it on also if you have any of your kids on the app I would advise you to check their phone or block the number in question.
