Datapac strikes a chord with National Opera House in new €150,000 sponsorship deal

Datapac, Ireland’s leading technology solutions and services provider, is pleased to announce the renewal of its sponsorship with the National Opera House. This new deal, valued at €150,000 over the next four years, marks the latest chapter in a decades-spanning partnership that has supported the venue in delivering world-class performances and events.

As the official ICT sponsor to the National Opera House, Datapac’s proactive support enables the National Opera House to roll out its extensive programme of events to citizens and international visitors annually. This includes the Wexford Festival Opera, which welcomes patrons from over 20 countries each year.

Ahead of the new sponsorship deal, Datapac engaged with all relevant stakeholders to gain a deep understanding of their respective goals. It then designed and developed an enhanced and future-proofed technology infrastructure which meets all of their evolving needs. The deal advances the National Opera House’s technology strategy to boost collaboration, communication, cybersecurity, and connectivity for the venue. In turn, Datapac’s solution will empower employees to continue to deliver a top-tier variety of performances for patrons across opera, theatre, dance, and music.

With Datapac’s solution in place, the National Opera House is becoming a more digitally managed organisation, which is helping it to meet its sustainability goals as part of its climate action plan. In addition, the technology supports the venue in delivering its Education and Community Programme which aims to engage local schools and the wider community with the arts.

Established in 2008, the venue is Ireland’s only custom-built opera house and was designated as Ireland’s ‘National Opera House’ by the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht 10 years ago. An estimated two million people have passed through its doors to date.

Randall Shannon, Executive Director, Wexford Festival Opera, said: “Every aspect of the work we do is supported by the Datapac team. Datapac’s proactive support gives us the confidence to innovate and expand, and this evolution of our strategy will ensure that we can provide an enhanced service for our valued patrons. As an important economic generator for the region, we greatly appreciate Datapac’s commitment to our sustainable future. We look forward to continuing to work with the team over the next number of years.”

Karen O’Connor, General Manager, Datapac, said: “We are thrilled to extend our partnership with the National Opera House and build on our valued relationship. We will work closely with the team to guide the technology strategy, ensuring that, as a world-class venue, it aligns with international best practices. In a digital landscape that’s ever-changing, we ensure that the venue can seamlessly deliver its year-round programme of events and the highly anticipated Wexford Festival Opera. All the world’s a stage, and we are delighted to support the National Opera House which makes an invaluable contribution to arts, culture, and the economy in Wexford and across the South East.”

Microsoft agrees 30MW renewable energy deal with SSE Renewables and FuturEnergy Ireland

Microsoft announced today that it has entered into a long-term Corporate Power Purchase Agreement (CPPA) with SSE Renewables and FuturEnergy Ireland that will add 30MW of wind energy capacity to Ireland’s electricity grid by way of the newly commissioned Lenalea Wind Farm near Letterkenny, County Donegal.

The renewable energy Corporate PPA secures a sustainable route to market for one of Ireland’s newest onshore wind farms, which was jointly developed by SSE Renewables and FuturEnergy Ireland. SSE Renewables is part of FTSE-listed SSE plc, while FuturEnergy Ireland is a Coillte-ESB joint venture.

Under the terms of the Corporate PPA, the renewable electricity produced by the seven Vestas V117-4.3MW onshore wind turbines at Lenalea Wind Farm will contribute towards Microsoft’s goal of powering its data centre operations with 100% renewable energy by 2025.

Today’s announcement is additional to 900MW of renewable energy CPPAs that Microsoft announced in November 2022. Of that capacity, more than 216MW of onshore wind and solar energy projects have already reached commercial operation, delivering clean energy to Ireland’s grid, with a further 250MW due to reach commercial operation this year.

This agreement is the first long-term Corporate PPA to be jointly entered into by co-development partners SSE Renewables and FuturEnergy Ireland.  CPPAs, such as this one, provide important routes to market for renewable energy developments, and play a valuable role in enabling the development and accelerated delivery of renewable energy generation to underpin Ireland’s decarbonisation targets.

The deal with Microsoft will also provide for a Community Benefit Fund of approximately €150,000 per year, equivalent to €2 for every megawatt hour generated by the project. The allocation of funds by way of annual grants will be overseen by a locally appointed Community Committee, which has already been established. A funding strategy will be developed in conjunction with the Community Committee to inform and shape the structure of the fund.

Today’s announcement follows the completion of construction at Lenalea in December 2023. The 30.1MW onshore wind farm is now fully operational, generating renewable electricity for export to the national grid, and contributing towards Ireland’s 2030 targets for onshore wind.

Eoin Doherty, Vice President, EMEA Regional Leader, Microsoft Cloud Operations + Innovation, said: “At Microsoft, we are committed to playing our part in supporting the decarbonisation of energy grids in markets in which we operate data centres. With the Lenalea Wind Farm achieving commercial operations, we are taking another important step on our journey to achieve 100% renewable energy supply and support wider efforts to add clean energy capacity to Ireland’s energy grid.”

Stuart Donnelly, Director of Corporate Power Purchase Agreements, SSE Renewables, said: “Securing our first long-term Corporate PPA for new onshore wind in Ireland is a satisfying milestone for SSE Renewables and our development partner FuturEnergy Ireland. We are pleased to support Microsoft’s climate and renewable energy goals, while delivering a meaningful contribution to Ireland’s energy targets and security of supply. Working together we will also deliver a positive socio-economic impact through a substantial, locally managed community benefit fund. This agreement is an excellent example of sectors collaborating in Ireland to meet infrastructure and sustainability objectives, supporting the accelerated delivery of renewable energy, which will be vital in the years ahead to enable renewable energy investments and the delivery of 2030 and longer-term net zero targets.”

Mary Lynch, Portfolio Director at FuturEnergy Ireland, said: “Lenalea represents the first project delivered by FuturEnergy Ireland and the very first step towards achieving our 1GW 2030 target. It is also the first of seven projects which we expect to deliver in partnership with SSE Renewables.

“Corporate PPAs are an important part of the Irish electricity market and we are very happy to support Microsoft’s commitment to carbon-free energy targets. Such collaboration and partnerships are critical if Ireland is to meet its climate action goals. We are also looking forward to maximising the local impact of the Community Benefit Fund, which is now live.”

Delivery of the Lenalea Wind Farm represented a total capital investment of more than €40 million by SSE Renewables and FuturEnergy Ireland, providing a significant economic boost locally. Construction and delivery of the project helped to support County Donegal’s economy and employment, with over 150,000 working hours recorded by regional contractors employing a significant local workforce. The positive economic contribution from the project to the region is expected to continue during the wind farm’s operation through a combination of local operational spend as well as annual contributions in commercial rates payments to the local authority.

Datapac technology accelerates growth for Kefron in deal worth €370k

Datapac, Ireland’s leading technology solutions and services provider, is today announcing that it has delivered a reimagined server and data storage solution to Kefron in a deal worth €370,000 over three years.

Kefron is a leader in document and information management, and has now developed its own invoice processing software, Kefron AP, which leverages machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) to provide e-invoicing, invoice automation, and analytics to customers. The software has grown exponentially and now serves the needs of organisations of all sizes across a multinational customer base.

As Kefron experienced rapid growth both in terms of its customer base and the innovative services offered, the company needed to upgrade its IT infrastructure to keep pace with this expansion. Following an extensive consultative process, Datapac upgraded Kefron’s existing storage ecosystem to a HPE Nimble Storage Area Network (SAN).

The elevated and highly secure platform is resulting in significant time savings for Kefron AP’s users with faster scanning and invoice processing times. Upgraded VMware virtual servers are vastly increasing server uptime, meaning no interruption to vital services for customers across different regions and time zones. Kefron’s security posture is improved through enhanced encryption of all data, while Sophos firewall protection adds an extra layer of network security.

Kefron has ambitious growth plans and is aiming to double the number of customers using its invoicing software, underpinned by Datapac’s technology. The HPE Nimble storage system offers industry-leading scalability due to its unique data compression and de-duplication capabilities.

In turn, the solution has increased productivity for Kefron’s 180 employees across the business. Day-to-day tasks have become quicker and more efficient with lightning-quick access to critical business applications.

The technology has significantly reduced costs for Kefron, minimising the need to maintain or upgrade aging hardware. In addition to the best-in-class technology suite, the ongoing infrastructure management and support provided by Datapac continues to create capacity for internal IT teams to focus on more strategic, less routine activities which add a greater value to business objectives, with backups and other maintenance work conducted out-of-hours to ensure no disruption to daily operations.

Jonathan Purvis, IT Manager, Kefron: “As our software solution has grown, so too has the amount of data that needs to be stored and secured. Datapac has been a long-time trusted advisor to Kefron, and the team worked closely with us to provide strategic road mapping and deliver this infrastructure upgrade with little to no downtime or interruptions to our business.

“We can continue to grow Kefron AP at pace with the peace of mind that our IT infrastructure is fully scalable and enabling us to provide the highest levels of customer service. The Datapac solution has futureproofed our operations, maximising performance and ensuring the highest levels of security across the board.”

Pamela Keane, Service Delivery Manager, Datapac: “As long-term IT partner, Datapac are proud to play a continued role in Kefron’s ambitious evolution into the digital age. The innovative HPE Nimble platform, designed and delivered by Datapac, is helping Kefron to enhance the invoice processing services it provides to customers and is enabling the company to grow its user base. As Kefron’s customers extend across varying time zones, it’s essential that the platform underpinning their cloud service offering ensures the very best uptime possible.

“This technology harnesses the power of data and empowers Kefron with flexibility and scalability into the future. The solution provides the company with the platform and the confidence to keep innovating. We look forward to continuing to work with Kefron, building on our long and valued partnership.”

Boom Collaboration Announce UK Distribution Deal With Westcoast

Fast-growing video conferencing manufacturer, Boom Collaboration, has appointed Westcoast as its official UK distributor to act as a catalyst for further international sales success.

Westcoast will supply the complete Boom Collaboration range, including 4K PTZ conferencing cameras, video bars, personal devices and audio speakers – to more than 5,000 active resellers across the country and beyond.

Boom Collaboration was formed in 2020 by founders Fredrik Hörnkvist and Holli Hulett, in a bid to disrupt the sector and stand out from the crowd – creating high performance, high value advanced products.

The ambitious Texas-based business has quickly developed an extensive conferencing portfolio and operates in 30 countries, with plans to extend to 20 more, having added 12 new markets already this year. Its operation is underpinned by the creation of four logistics centres covering all corners of the globe.

Sustained success

“Westcoast provides us with the perfect platform to officially launch the brand into the UK and open the door to sustained sales success – for all parties and most importantly their resellers. We want to offer something a little different both in terms of our products and how we do business. We are not another ‘me-too’ brand,” Hörnkvist highlights.

The Boom UNO vertical video bar, MAGNA 4K PTZ camera and GEMINI expandable audio innovation are some of the many devices available through Westcoast, along with the GOJO multi-camera controller.

“Boom Collaboration might be a relatively new conferencing name but the company has quickly built an impressive reputation and a very comprehensive product portfolio, which covers everything from personal workspaces to huddle rooms and large boardrooms,” says Westcoast’s UC Business Manager, Sam Armstrong.

He added: “There’s lots of innovation too such as intelligent video bars, expandable wireless audio and even a user friendly multi-camera controller to facilitate live events.

“Boom Collaboration can offer our resellers something different and it is a very welcome addition to our high calibre UC collaboration division across the UK and also France and Germany. We are confident this new partnership will be a big success.”

Boom’s co-founder Hulett agrees with the importance of building long term relationships. “We are young and fresh with new ideas, backed by years of personal experience that already makes us experts in this field. We are not afraid to stand out, be bold, brave and loud and do things a little differently. A disrupter to take on the field.”

Industry powerhouse

She continues: “It’s about offering the highest levels of support to resellers through the distribution channel and going the extra mile with Westcoast. We don’t want to just stay in the middle lane.

“We recognise resellers have the relationship with customers. Together we can help them transition to the new world we live in. They can lean on us. We are happy to help.”

Hörnkvist concludes: “Our vision is based on creating better meetings. Simply. We offer future proof solutions with solid components and technology to stand the test of time. We cover all user and room size environments.

“Equally we want to show personality, fun and passion. We are young with lots of ambition to grow. Joining forces with a huge industry powerhouse like Westcoast will add further fuel to the fire and enable us to penetrate deep into the UK and wider international markets. This is a major step forward in our growth strategy. Boom is beginning to boom.”
