90% of Irish van and lorry drivers ready for in-cab AI coaching

A new European wide survey from Geotab, a global leader in connected vehicle and asset solutions, reveals that Irish van and lorry drivers have a clear vision for the future of in-cab technology, with 90% stating they would be more comfortable with instant audio coaching. The technology uses AI to analyse in-cab video in real time, rather than storing inward-facing footage for later review.

The study of over 3,500 professional drivers across seven European countries, including 500 in Ireland, examined driver attitudes towards the use of in-cab dashcams. While 96% of Irish van and lorry drivers are concerned about the use of in-cab cameras, almost just as many (95%) would be willing to overlook these concerns if footage could prove they were not at fault after a collision. This reveals a fundamental “privacy versus protection” dilemma at the heart of Irish driver’s attitudes, highlighting that they are not against technology, but are instead weighing the benefit of potential exoneration against a wide spectrum of worries.

Irish driver concerns are widespread and varied, with no single issue forming a majority. 41% worry that road-facing footage could be used out of context, failing to show the full picture of an event, while 39% are concerned that the footage could be used unfairly against them for disciplinary action. 37% said the dashcam technology makes them feel as though they are being spied on or shows a lack of trust from their employer. The varied barriers to the adoption of video cameras reflected by the study reveals an urgent education gap that cannot be overlooked by fleet managers.

“The data shows that Irish drivers are pragmatic and forward-thinking”, said Edward Kulperger, Senior Vice President, EMEA at Geotab. “Professional drivers are clearly open to technology that protects them and promotes safer roads, provided it’s implemented transparently and with respect for their privacy. Technology like in-cab cameras can play a vital role in protecting drivers and improving road safety, but trust is key. Drivers want reassurance that data is used responsibly and in their best interests and innovations such as real-time AI coaching show how safety and privacy can work hand in hand.”

The survey confirms earlier findings from Geotab’s driver research noting nearly 73% of Irish drivers support adopting technology to enhance their performance. This new data notes that a combined 69% are positive about using footage for coaching, provided it is constructive and collaborative, with none of the respondents stating they see no benefit at all in having a dashcam. When asked about the biggest benefits, drivers cited improving their own standards through coaching, increased security, and proving they were not at fault in a collision, further underlining their dual interest in both professional development and personal protection.

OSRAM ROADsight 1500 Dashcam Review

The OSRAM ROADsight 1500 Dash Camera 1080p is a user-friendly dashcam with no faffing around and a simple plug and play dashcam with a 2 inch colour main screen. With a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080p and a frame rate of 30FPS, you can collect clear and smooth video quality footage and with the 110° field of view captures a broad area, ensuring you don’t miss any important details. You can decide yourself from the footage we took both day and night.

Being small in size it does not take up much window space and is mounted in two minutes with the suction cup and then fix the dashcam to the fitting and set to your needs with the ball joint fixture to get the precise angle as this will differ per vehicle.

The UI is simple to use which we go through in the full video review below with video samples so you can get an idea of what you get with OSRAM ROADsight 1500 dashcam.

The one thing I found poor was the mic on the dashcam not getting great audio in quite and noisey situations as you will hear in the samples below. However the footage is good and is what we want most audio or not turned on as some prefer to leave off.

You also have collision protection so files will auto save and you can also save on the go too you can switch between video and photo mode should you need just to take photos which is not something I would use often as I just let the dashcam run and do its job we have reviewed over 50 at this stage.

Getting your files is simple given there is no app on board here which would have been nice however sometimes they are tedious with connecting but you can plug direct into your pc or mobile phone or remove the sd card like the old fashioned way and get your files again shown in the video below.

Overall it does the job and is simple to use which is what many poeple want these days and everyone should have a dashcam in their vehicles today both front and rear with the scammers out there.

A recent Geotab survey noted that drivers believe there is an increase in driving accidents, with 66% of Irish drivers having considered leaving the profession in the year prior. Commercial drivers face long hours, unpredictable conditions, stress and wellness challenges, and even unfair blame in incidents. At the same time, fleet managers are dealing with rising costs, the vital need to keep their workforce safe, and the need to protect the company’s reputation. Tech Review – CANYON Car Video Recorder DVR10GPS – Dashcam

The CANYON DVR10GPS  is one of many dashcams on offer from the company and the first time for us to test one out, We test many dashcams here and I always say every car should have them fitted as standard but to date it is not the case and leaves plenty of room in the market for you to go pick what suits your pockets and needs.

Setting up takes about ten minutes in total with getting the app downloaded then installing into your vehicle and if you are familiar with dashcams it will be no trouble, the UI on the app is simple to navigate using the keys on the device itself and you will be ready in no time regardless.

Equipped with a powerful Sony Starvis 307 sensor, it captures impeccable footage even in low light. The expansive 140° field of view ensures comprehensive coverage, leaving no detail unseen. Enjoy effortless installation with the magnetic holder – a secure and convenient mount. Powered by a dependable supercapacitor, this device guarantees stable operation even in extreme temperatures and being recently below freezing here it worked with no issues.

There is also an app and of course WiFi to connect to the device with when you are on the go and allowing you to draw down footage when required and this can also be locked on the device so you do not overwrite it which is important. The controls on the unit itself are simple to use as in on the app so you can set up with either. The database is updated weekly too for speed cameras and so on.

The built-in GPS module allows you to track the speed and location of your vehicle. Forget about speeding fines – the speed cam function will always let you know about the speed control camera ahead. This recently worked well for me testing another dashcam in the UK not knowing all the roads to well so pay attention to warnings although we differ here with how they operate over there towards here in Ireland. I had no notifications as the previous dashcam which was like a community set-up despite deriving many miles with work.

Overall this is a nice product and simple to use which is important some dashcams can be a bit cumbersome and have a hard to navigate UI whereas this one is simple to use and get around and keep you and your vehicle protected, check out the video review below for more and what you will find in the app and what is on the dashcam itself and all the features.

Whether you’re on the road or parked, a commercial driver or commuter, hauling cargo or chauffeuring kids – you’re covered from all angles in all situations. With stunning, easily shareable 4K UHD resolution, Alexa built-in, and heads-up navigation, there’s no better way to protect the vehicles, drivers, passengers, and cargo you value most.

The SC 400D series combines the best tech in an easy-to-use and easy to set up dash cam, allowing you to get started smarter and safer more easily. And I have been testing this bad boy out the last while and as always say everyone should have a dashcam in fact it should be part and parcel of buying any vehicle today.

This Dash Cam can come in various configurations ie the main unit itself or two separate cameras one being rear view or cabin view also there is a cabin view option we tested this kit in the cabin view mode as my car is off the road for now and I am travelling with work so it suits and gives you an idea of what to expect.

Setting up takes a few minutes it is simple to mount it and you can route the wires around your headliner or whichever suits you best and you can also get a hardwire kit which is probably the best route to take, also this comes with an SD card which many companies leave out these days and I Know as I have tested around 50 Dash Cams now and for me is a nice sweetener as some retail outlets chance their arm with way over the top pricing here on them.

Dashcam at night driving cab view – techbuzzireland

The App itself is one of the best I have tried on a dashcam with quick connectivity to access files on the go and drop them onto your phone I have had multiple incidents recorded and left some samples in the review but it gives you an exact map or where the incidents happen which is great with a little map of your driving at the time and you can just cut the clip on your phone to what is vital information and save it on device though it will be backed up on the dashcam itself but one thing to note is you need to keep an eye on saved clips and erase when required as it will not left you avail of the emergency record feature, you will be prompted to delete files though..

The Drive Smarter App

The Drive Smarter platform is not only powered by advanced hardware and software, it’s made possible by the community of drivers and sensors that share driving alerts. Families, rideshare and delivery drivers, and businesses are all a part of our network of people who aim to drive smarter. Below is samples of what you will find on the app plus a detailed look in the full video review below. From having tested this in both in the UK and Ireland we need more in the Irish community as you will get little notifications however in the UK it is a MUST HAVE dashcam and super effective as I drove from Holyhead to London and probably saved myself hundreds in fines not being to familiar with the camera network.

Features

See Every Detail In Stunning 4K

With Ultra HD 4K resolution, you’ll get 4x the pixel resolution vs 1080P, so you can see and capture every detail on your drive

Alexa Is Always Ready To Help

From playing music to navigating to finding restaurants, Alexa is ready to help answer any question or request while you’re on the road, this feature I never used on dashcams however it is there if required.

Cover All The Angles Needed

Record ahead, behind, and even inside the vehicle all at the same time so you can cover all the angles and know exactly what happened

More Than Just A Dash Cam

Get notifications of red light camera locations, speed traps, and many more alerts from our nationwide network of drivers and sensors.

Overall for me this is a MUST HAVE dashcam after tested many over the last 3 years this one is the most efficient and reliable one with no loss of data as many dashcams with their SD cards tend to get corrupted in a short space of time and for me proved to be a valuable tool at my disposal. See the video review for a deeper dive into this excellent product.

The Importance of Having a Tracking Dash Cam in Your Fleet Vehicles

Are you a fleet manager and worried about the safety of your drivers out on the road? If so, equipping your vehicles with a tracking dash cam should be one of your top priorities.

Dash cams are becoming increasingly commonplace in many commercial fleets due to their ability to monitor driver behavior and provide visual evidence of any type of incident. Why is having a tracking dash cam an important part of keeping your employees safe while also improving overall operations efficiency in your fleet? Read on to hear our answer.

What is a tracking dash cam and why is it important for fleet vehicles?

A tracking dash cam is a video camera designed specifically for use in vehicles, providing a continuous recording of the road ahead.

For fleet vehicles, such cameras are essential for a number of reasons. They can improve safety by monitoring driver behavior and identifying hazardous driving practices and also serve as a powerful tool for fleet management. By providing real-time location data for each vehicle, as well as detailed information about driving speeds and routes taken, the right dash cam for your semi truck can help fleet managers optimize schedules, reduce fuel consumption and increase overall efficiency. Additionally, these cameras can provide valuable evidence in the event of an accident or other incident, helping resolve disputes and protect against fraudulent insurance claims.

All in all, a tracking dash cam is an important investment for any fleet looking to improve safety, streamline operations, and protect their assets.

The Benefits of Installing a Tracking Dash Cam in Your Fleet Vehicles

Dash cams are becoming increasingly popular among fleet vehicle owners and for good reason. These innovative devices offer a wide range of benefits that can greatly improve the efficiency and safety of any fleet operation. Let’s take a closer look.

Monitor Driver Behavior

Tracking dash cams has revolutionized the way we monitor driver behavior. With advanced features such as GPS tracking and G-force sensors, these devices are capable of capturing every detail of a driver’s journey. By analyzing this data, fleet managers and business owners can gain valuable insights into their drivers’ behavior and identify areas for improvement.

Not to mention, dash cams reduce the risk of accidents, as drivers are more likely to behave responsibly when they know they are being monitored. As technology continues to improve, there has never been a better time to invest in a tracking dash cam to keep your drivers safe and accountable on the road.

Improve Fleet Safety

A tracking dash cam like CameraMatics fleet camera systems is a great tool to improve fleet safety for companies with a large number of vehicles on the roads. This technology offers real-time monitoring of driver behavior to ensure they are following all traffic laws and driving safely.

With a tracking dash cam, fleet managers can easily identify and address any issues, including speeding or distracted driving, before they escalate into more serious problems. In addition, the footage recorded by the dash cam can serve as evidence in the event of an accident or insurance claim, which can save time and money for both the company and the driver involved. Pretzel City business owners can review the incident and work with Truck Accident Legal Experts in Reading, PA to understand liability and ensure that all necessary documentation is in order. This collaboration can be crucial in mitigating legal repercussions and protecting the company’s interests.

Reduce Operating Costs

Dash cams are a smart investment for any business looking to cut operating costs. This innovative technology not only helps to retain valuable company assets and reduce insurance premiums, but it also promotes safer driving habits among employees.

Tracking dash cams capture and store footage of driving activity, allowing business owners to monitor performance, identify areas for improvement, and protect against false claims. With the ability to track mileage, location, and speed, businesses can manage their fleets more efficiently and take corrective action when needed.

Identifying the Right Dash Cam System for Your Business

Every business owner wants to ensure the safety and security of their vehicles and drivers on the road. That’s why dash cam systems have become an essential tool for many companies. But with so many options available, it can be challenging to identify the right one for your business.

You need to consider video quality, storage capacity, GPS tracking, and ease of use. By doing your research and carefully evaluating your needs, you can find the dash cam system that will provide the best protection for your business on the road.

Installation and Maintenance Tips For Tracking Dash Cams

If you’re considering investing in a tracking dash cam, know that proper installation and maintenance are key to getting the most out of your device. First and foremost, make sure your dash cam is mounted securely on your windshield or dashboard and that it has a clear, unobstructed view of the road ahead. Regularly reviewing your footage and setting your camera to overwrite old files can help ensure that you’re always capturing important information.

Keeping your device clean and regularly checking for updates can prevent technical issues down the line. By taking these simple steps, you can feel confident that your tracking dash cam is working at its best level possible.

Tracking dashcams are becoming valuable tools for fleet business owners as they provide a host of benefits, from monitoring driver behavior and improving safety to reducing operating costs.

By acknowledging the advantages that these devices offer, companies can create an optimum level of safeguard for their fleet vehicles while making informed decisions in regard to operational expenses.

Easy Guide To Choosing The Right Dash Cam For Your Business

As a business owner, you know how crucial it is to stay on top of the latest technology and tools that can help keep your company running smoothly. And these days, investing in a dashcam for your fleet of vehicles could prove to be a handy addition—not only for security purposes but also for monitoring gas usage or analyzing driving data over time.

But with so many dash cams available today, it can be challenging to determine which is suitable for your business’s needs. This blog post will make selecting the perfect one much easier! You’ll discover what features should factor into your buying decision and exactly which type will best suit your company’s requirements. Read on to get started.

Understand your vehicle’s needs

When shopping for a dash cam, it’s essential to consider the size of your vehicle and the features that you want the camera to include. That way, you can select the camera that will most effectively help you record what’s happening on the road ahead. You should also review the manual for your vehicle or consult your mechanic to understand how compatible a specific dash cam could be with your car. Some vehicles may have particular compatibility issues related to their make, model, and year. In addition, ensure that your chosen commercial dashcam has all the necessary documentation, such as certification standards and regulations, if cameras are required in your state. Ultimately, understanding your vehicle’s needs can save time, energy, and money – a win-win situation.

Choose the right features for you

Before making a purchase, you must ensure the dash cam includes all of the necessary features for your particular industry. Do you require evidence of speed and direction? Make sure you have a model that provides those metrics. What level of night vision performance do you need? Many cameras offer different levels, so identify which suits your needs. Are other features like image stabilization, GPS tracking, and parking mode important for your business? Decide ahead to avoid making an unwise purchase decision down the road.

  • Consider battery and mounting options

If you’re using your car for extended road trips and considering mounting your camera on the dashboard, you’ll want a unit with a longer battery life for uninterrupted capturing. On the other hand, if your goal is to tape each ride around town discreetly, you may be looking for an easily mountable unit with a smaller profile that can be quickly detached and reattached when needed. Consider both of these factors when researching dash cams to determine which will work best for you.

Educate yourself on installation requirements

Buying a dash cam is a crucial decision as it can help make your drive safer, but before you buy one, you must ensure you are confident in your ability to install it correctly. Familiarizing yourself with what installation entails and knowing the tools you will need ahead of time will save you effort later on. It’s also worth ensuring that the camera is compatible with your car’s power system voltage so that it will be up and running immediately when installed. Doing your research now can help you get the most out of your new dash cam in the future.

Look at quality vs. cost

It’s important to consider quality against cost when selecting a dash cam. After all, you don’t want to get stuck with a device with blurred images, limited functions, and a short lifespan. So before you decide on one model, look at the features it offers—from its video resolution to the maximum number of events it can record—and compare them to how much you’re paying for it. Of course, as with any purchase, budget is a factor in choosing the right dash cam. When evaluating the overall value and ensuring you’re getting the most bang for your buck, ensure the quality of what you receive is commensurate with what you paid.

Check out reviews and ratings

As a business owner, you must do your due diligence when making a big purchase decision. You want to ensure that your chosen product will provide you with the best value for your money and be fit for purpose. While brand reputation is always worth researching, the most effective way to be confident of an item’s performance is to check out reviews and ratings from other businesses that have bought the same product. A dash cam isn’t inexpensive, so read up on what other business owners have said about their own experiences – good or bad – before you commit to buying one.

Choosing the right dashcam for your business is a crucial decision that can significantly affect the security and protection you can provide. Through this comprehensive guide on selecting the right dashcam for your business, hopefully, you gained valuable insight into what factors to consider when making this critical decision. So now, all that’s left is to make your purchase. Good luck!
