One might recall when compact devices where a thing any Sony once ruled the roost here and today it is a debatable topic which is well and good and yet again the iPhone seems to get dragged in somehow and that being the mini which apparently is not popular today but I disagree here and this is coming from a person who preferred bigger phones and has been using them for many years, now however I like the smaller phone now as a daily driver which has one obvious bugbear having the smaller screen however I can now live with this and the ASUS Zenfone 10 has been a super solid phone to use the last while and it could be phone of the year.
Being a compact device one would think it has cut corners but not here even with the battery being smaller the optimisation of the phone is excellent yielding an easy day and half for me being a power user but for the average person it is a two day or more phone, the next main thing is the screen which is glorious with an AMOLED panel with a 5.9 inch size and can go up to the much pointless tech speak of 144 Hz in gaming and 120 Hz refresh rate standard and has 800 nits with a peak 1,100 nit and makes for fine outdoor reading.
Here for some though is the screen size issue for those who want to consume media and for me in all fairness it is not that bad on a smaller screen and if I want to go large I just stick on my projector at home I would not be one to consume media much on the go as it would be in a hotel for example and I would cast or use another product or means to do so from my phone but overall the experience is crisp and clean with excellent sounding speakers thrown into the mix.
The build quality of the device was solid for me and perfect in the had which was mentioned in the unboxing video, my review device colour was bland but it comes in more eye catching colours which I really like and we have polycarbonate materials here which are solid and eco friendly.
When it comes to getting the job done be it gaming social media emails and all that kind of stuff in which I have other apps and some heavy hitters this phone sailed through with no problems at all it performed better than my Pixel 7a and iPhone 14 pro at most tasks and this is an important factor for many if like me use their phone daily and power user, this device just done it simply and effortlessly.
Unboxing and Walkthrough
The cameras are powerful although this is not the main feature I tend to look for in a phone they all claim to be great but just wait and see the comparison to another review device I have in claiming all the bells ans whistles and the camera alone was poor never mind the performance but the camera and video on this device is up there with the other top tier devices out there and in some cases better, this is subjective mind you but from testing many phones over the years and buying multiple other devices this phone packs a punch in the day and night with both video and camera shots and there is samples below taken with this device and you can be the judge, as in all phone reviews I never claim to be the camera expert or portray myself as one but I do know good results when I see them and here I was impressed overall and remember we can shoot up to 8k on this device.
Battery power is excellent as mentioned above and will see most through a solid days work my workload would be heavier than most and I would be more demanding with some gaming but not as much as I would previously would through at a phone in recent years I am gone beyond that gaming stage now being honest but I do have several games there for travel or toilet purposes when bored.. We have wireless charging of course and this comes in at 30 watt fast charging and 15 wirelessly charging.
Overall this is a little powerhouse of a phone and I enjoy it immensely and it does everything it says on the tin and it is also a phone that delivers results on cameras and performance it might be on the smaller size for some but get over that caveat and we have a contender for phone of the year though again when it comes to price this might be another caveat for some and like that you can’t please everyone can you..

When it comes to accessories for our smartphones there is plenty to pick from but none like this set which is modular and allows you to pick between to pieces to suit your needs at a given time which is kind of a neat idea I must add and not seen before in this format. This is kind of a 3 in 1 kit giving you a protective shell and then two pieces that can be added by clipping onto the case itself hence being modular.
The shell alone does a good job protecting your device albeit a bit on the glossy side on the rear and slippy and it has lots of perforations on the case to allow you to stick on either the card holder or phone stand which is neat. The card holder is neat and made with a nice material and will hold at a guess up to three cards from my testing and keep them secure, the texture of the cad holder also gives you additional grip on the case too and if one card is in it or even three in my testing they will not fall out so it is for most people out there today who carry card and it looks much better than those wallet styled cases that are bulky and cumbersome..

ASUS today announced the mighty new Zenfone 10, the latest generation of this iconic hand-sized 5.9″ smartphone that redefines expectations for compact smartphones.
Zenfone 10 heralds a new era where compact means powerful, and small is the new big. It’s powered by the flagship Snapdragon® 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform, along with the latest LPDDR5X memory and UFS 4.0 ROM technologies for the ultimate performance. But amazingly, battery life has been increased by almost 13%,1 with no change in battery capacity. Convenient Qi-compatible wireless charging has also been added.
The advanced 144 Hz3 AMOLED display on Zenfone 10 delivers ultra vivid colors in any conditions, and visuals are enhanced even further in collaboration with leading visual-processing company Pixelworks®.
The camera system on Zenfone 10 has been seriously upgraded, incorporating the latest 6-Axis Hybrid Gimbal Stabilizer 2.0 and new algorithms for rock-steady videos. Stability, on hand: 6-Axis Hybrid Gimbal Stabilizer 2.0
The second-generation 6-Axis Hybrid Gimbal Stabilizer 2.0 in the 50 MP rear camera keeps videos even more blur-free and shake-free, even when the camera is moving. This innovative gimbal OIS monitors Zenfone 10’s every movement, in every direction, and uses that information to adjust the whole camera module in real time. It can compensate for shifts of up to +/- 3 °, so it can help smooth out even the wildest action, without optical distortion or ‘ghosting’. Combined with the ultrafast autofocus technology — which focuses quickly and reacts smoothly to changes — and hardware anti-shake EIS algorithms, Zenfone 10 delivers super-smooth, professional-looking action shots, whatever the subject.
Adding to 6-Axis Hybrid Gimbal Stabilizer 2.0’s superior anti-shake capabilities is its new Adaptive EIS technology. This uses the built-in gyro to detect movement, allowing dynamic adjustments to the size of the field of view to keep videos rock-steady at all times.
OZO Audio technology gives users the choice of eliminating wind noise for crystal-clear outdoor recordings, or capturing immersive, high-fidelity 3D Surround spatial audio.
The photography experience has been further improved with the ability to access the Light Trail mode and Quick Shot functions even when the phone’s screen is turned off. Quick Shot is a new feature that allows users to capture a photo instantly with a double-press of the volume key.
Selfies, on hand: 32 MP front camera with RGBW sensor
The upgraded 32 MP front camera on Zenfone 10 now features an RGBW sensor with large 1.4 μm pixels, giving the camera exceptional low-light performance. White pixels are added to the traditional RGB pixels, improving the overall image quality when capturing images in a dim environment. The advanced night scene algorithms help to deliver night-vision-grade selfies. When taking selfies at night or indoors with Zenfone 10, the foreground subjects have a natural skin tone, clear contours, and well-defined light and shadows. The background lighting and detail is also fully preserved.
Other camera modes have also been enhanced. Portrait mode has been upgraded with more flexible zoom options, and Light Trail mode now lets users capture professional-grade photos handheld, with no need for a tripod.
Endurance, on hand: Up to 2X battery life, new charging options
Using power-efficient CPU and components, we’ve improved Zenfone 10’s battery life by up to 12.9%, even though it has the same 4300 mAh battery capacity as its predecessor.
We’ve also added a new 30 W HyperCharge capability for maximum charging performance, and for convenience Zenfone 10 now also supports wireless charging via any Qi-compatible wireless charger.
