Virgin Media will be in Gorey on Thursday 25th October to celebrate Ireland’s Internet Day and the designation of Gorey as the 2018 Digital Town by the Irish Domain Name Registry (IEDR).
The ‘Digital Town’ initiative highlights the benefits and possibilities of the internet and celebrates the digital achievements of a local town. Gorey was chosen for cultivating a truly digital environment in the town, and for its ongoing successes in fully embracing digital for its residents and for local businesses.
During the day, there will be discussions and presentations on the benefits of high speed broadband and digitisation – in the Digital Dome being established in the town centre by IEDR and Gorey Chamber to mark Gorey’s success. Business guru and broadcaster Bobby Kerr will MC the proceedings which will also include many local business success stories.
Through our national Project Lightning network investment programme, Virgin Media has extended its ultrafast network to circa 20,000 premises in Gorey, Enniscorthy, New Ross and Wexford in the past year, bringing Ireland’s fastest broadband and the best connected entertainment to Gorey. Virgin Media also introduced Free Public Wi-Fi for citizens in the town, contributing strongly to Gorey’s capability and success as Ireland’s 2018 Digital Town.
Towns across Ireland including Gorey are currently benefiting from our ongoing network expansion programme which involves connecting local communities to Ireland’s fastest broadband provider. Over the past two years, Virgin Media has added 100,000 new homes and businesses to its network map in Ireland, and is on target to reach the 1 million milestone over the next 2 years.
SAS, the global leader in analytics, celebrate 20 years of continuous operation in the Republic of Ireland. Of course, Ireland has cemented itself as a capital of analytics and artificial intelligence (AI) innovation which is why in 2016, SAS expanded its operations with a new office at Le Touche House in the heart of Dublin’s International Financial Services Centre. On top of this, SAS is set to complete a three-year, €40 million investment in Ireland which has seen the company’s Irish workforce increase six-fold since 2015.

It has become home to many promising start-ups and houses the European headquarters of some of the world’s largest technology companies. SAS has been applying analytics to the toughest business problems for large and small organisations across Ireland for decades, and has been a prominent thought leader in AI for over 40 years.

This was the fourth year in a row SAS had been ranked as a top workplace. The company scored highly for the quality of relationships between managers and employees, with staff citing high levels of trust, credibility, respect, fairness, pride and camaraderie.
SAS is set to complete a three-year, €40 million investment in Ireland which has seen the company’s Irish workforce increase six-fold since 2015.
“Ireland has a very strong pedigree in analytics and AI” said Charles Senabulya, Vice President & Country Manager, SAS UK & Ireland. “Over the last decade, Dublin has established itself as a major European centre of excellence for technology and data science. SAS has been at the forefront of that innovation, and we’re determined to continue driving change and pushing the frontiers of analytics. Congratulations to everyone who has built up SAS Ireland over the last 20 years, and to those who continue to make it one of the country’s best places to work.”
I had a long rant here some time ago about insurance companies using apps to gather information on your driving habits offering you a cheaper rate if you meet their criteria but I was not happy about this idea due to the data involved and whom and where it goes to after it is passed on by insurance companies and in general I like many here in Ireland have no love at all for them due to the stupid prices we now pay for insurance and even in my own case it has gone up every year for the last 4 years and you just cant win despite our lovely government saying they will step in and do something about it… I will just shut up now about that..
There is a new app now on the market called Targify that offers the same idea but at a cost and requires a monthly sub which immediately puts me off due to this technology already native with many companies at no charge but as mentioned they gather data on your driving habits. This is a hard sell for me but I am not knocking the idea, As is even for seasoned drivers the cost of insurance is gone up and for new drivers getting insured is an issue as is…
Where does the data go and who has access to it….
All data is sent securely from the Targify device to our secure servers which have passed World-class penetration testing. The data from your device may only be viewed by you, using the Targify smartphone App, and you must have your Username & Password to access it.
Do insurers recognise this product – Will I get a reduction in premium.
We are currently in discussions with the Motor Insurance industry with a view to securing discounts for Users of Targify. We will update this website and our newsletter subscribers when this happens.
The app provides a driver rating score too. This is calculated based on an algorithm developed using our years of experience in providing this technology to the Motor Insurance industry. Targify gives feedback on dates travelled, the route taken and acceleration of the driver.
Product description
Targify Connected Car 360 is a really cool system that allows parents to accompany their young drivers, virtually, on every journey. It takes the pain out of getting permission to drive from your parents as they have less to worry about when you’re on the road alone.
It’s a simple, two-part system with a device that plugs into the car to monitor driving and an App for parents to see how their driving is going.
Product Highlights Include
Risky driving behaviour monitoring
Scores driver-safety performance
Current vehicle location
Journey history
Mobile phone use while driving
Full report for analysis
Targify tells you if your son or daughter is engaging in risky driving behaviour. You get this information on your smartphone, anywhere in the World. Targify allows you to see how fast they’re driving but also delivers other information that’s as important such as:
Harsh braking: Viewed by Insurers as a key-indicator of the likelihood that a driver will have an accident
Excessive acceleration: A regular amongst young males particularly, it increases the risk of losing control or hitting pedestrians
Harsh Cornering: Taking bends too quickly can easily cause a novice driver to lose control and crash.
Current location: Allows you to know where the vehicle is at any time
Journey review: See the routes taken by the vehicle in the past
Driving Score: See how their driving improves week-on-week. We start everyone on 100 points. Points are lost for aggressive driving. 1 is terrible driving. 100 is excellent.
There is an app on Android and iOS so this means privacy issues will the said son or daughter or whoever is going to be driving the vehicle allow this to happen and be monitored wherever they go?? I will leave that up to you to decide.. Will it help with insurance costs in time without having to hand over data of some sort and is it worth the money?? You tell us below or on social.
The much talked about and leaked device of the year has dropped in and today we will have a quick unboxing of the all new Google Pixel 3 XL. We have more videos to follow soon on this device and accessories. The Pixel 3 XL would have been my primary choice of the two as I prefer bigger smartphones but there is much talk about that notch on top which does not bother me at all being my first notched device.
On initial set up and getting the hang of the device so far I am liking what I am seeing overall and will be talking more about the phone in the coming weeks and if you have any questions as always just ask below or on our social channels and we will help with any assistance you may need.
For more information on the Google Pixel 3XL head over HERE and stay tuned for further updates on the device in the coming weeks as we give it a good test.
The Google Pixel 3 XL stand is a handy piece of tech to have complement your Google device which gives you wireless charging and information at hand and also entices you to use the Google Assistant which works quite well in most instances.
The stand will give you up to 10W fast charging on your Pixel 3 and if you have any other Qi- compatible devices they will work too but at half the charge rate. One feature I like on this is the digital wellbeing which enables you to take a break from your smartphone and this gives you a daily log of your mobile activies and perhaps after using such you might get a shock as to how much time you spend on your phone..
Whilst the device is sat in the stand youn have shortcuts to tap you can listen to the news straight away or get weather information and news for your locale. You can launch a bedtime routine too with the assistant and set alarm or get a virtual snapshot of the day based on the information provided. If you have Nest HELLO this is also has intergration built in. The nice thing for me here is the ability to have a digital photo frame and listen to my playlist too and the speakers on this phone are plenty aloud.
Our Google Pixel 3 XL has arrived and it really is a nice device thus far and so far I am enjoying it our review on that is coming soon. We also have two official cases for the device which are also quite nice and they would be required to have some form of protection on your device as they are not cheap to buy and I always say “case up”.

The fabric cases are nice to the touch and look well and also give your device some additonal grip without the bulk. With tactile keys that also work well there is no issue at all so far using these cases on the device and I would reccommend you get a case of some sort regardless. Check out the video below and stay tuned for more case reviews soon on the Pixel 3XL. Both cases work fine with wireless charging units..
On a daily basis, thousands of mobile applications are uploaded to Google play store & Apple app store. Every enterprise now required a mobile application as it has a lot of benefits. Nowadays we can find the application in health, education, food, real estate and almost it covers all the major sectors. But one thing is common in all the application, they all follows a similar development process. In this article, outlined is the development processes that mostly mobile App development companiesfollows.
Idea
What is your main purpose for developing a mobile application? Till now the most successful application has only one mantra that is to resolve the real-life problem. So if you identify the problem, the next thing you can do is to think about why this problem exists. Talk to experts about your identified issue. Once you have a complete grasp the whole information. Now you can start evaluating how a mobile app can solve your identified problem. Then hire a team of developers who can work on your idea.
Wireframing
Wireframes are the sketch up & mock-up design of your application. A wireframe is build up with the teamwork of developers & designers. In this phase, team decide the UI/UX of application. Mostly animation, transition, user mapping content, and the text and the layout. As you know designing, plays a vital role in website and application. Most of the people judge you on the basis of your application UI & UX. In this phase, you will decide user experience and decide how to incorporate your brand image into the mobile app.
Choosing the right platform
Once the team decided the UI/UX, then the developers will recommend you the best mobile development platforms. The recommendation will play a significant role in the whole development process. However, if you want to make a successful application, you must choose quality work. Once the design and platform have been selected, then the mobile development company start their core task- coding.
Finished product testing
This is the last phase of developing a mobile app. The step is as much critical as the whole developing process. In this phase, the developers check the code, simulate various usage scenarios, clear out the bugs, test for vulnerabilities, security and privacy issues, compatibility with various devices, and functionality in various data networks (if the app requires an internet connection for using it).
How long does this entire process take?
This highly relies on the company you select to develop the app. On an average, if you hire a professional developer, they can develop in a minimum of 300 hours of work to build a customised app which includes a high level of user interaction, graphics, and functionalities.
